Shed the “Skin” of Egoism

023Question: How can the ten change my intention? What other actions are there besides prayer?

Answer: The ten can show you their intentions, and you will see how much your intentions differ from theirs.

Comment: But I see everything through my ego.

My Response: It does not matter; it is all gradually being removed. You just have to keep going. In another year or two, you will see this “skin” come off of you.

The Group Is the Soul

942Question: Is the group like a core that preserves the center both on the left and on the right?

Answer: The group represents the soul; that is, ten people (Minyan) united together by the common goal of attaining the Creator and are called “soul” (Neshama).

By working with each other according to the Kabbalistic methodology, they can consciously move forward, and they choose the pace at each step.

Egoistic Love

627.2Comment: We are egoists. We cannot cultivate love for the Creator if we don’t first have love for a child, for family, or for a profession, because all of this can be dedicated to the Creator.

My Response: This will not be bestowal to the Creator. I am not saying you should cancel your love for your child, but do not think that by annulling egoistic desires you can delight the Creator. The Creator does not need this at all.

Question: So can we bring contentment to the Creator only through our unity, love for friends, reading something together, and feeling something positive in that?

Answer: Yes.

281.02Question: If egoism is fuel, how can it disappear? What is this state?

Answer: The Creator can neutralize egoism partially or even completely, as He created it for His own purposes. Therefore, if He wishes, He elevates it; if He does not, He removes it.

Question: When I am satisfied with myself, is this always the evil inclination? And when the ten is satisfied with me, is this the result of working with correct intention?

Answer: Usually, yes.

Question: If the evil inclination is increasingly revealed and the level of tension rises, how can such processes be covered with love?

Answer: Gradually, not all at once, but piece by piece, fragmentarily.

Question: Can we as a group reach a state where there are no stains at all, only the pure quality of complete bestowal of everything we receive, with the entire flow of received light fully directed to the Creator?

Answer: That is the final correction (Gmar Tikkun).

Question: You said we can change the intentions of our friends by uniting everyone within ourselves and raising MAN (prayer for correction). Is this the best approach?

Answer: It is the only way.

Sort Yourself Out

629.3Question: I understand that achieving the state of a single soul in my personal development is becoming a big goal for me. I am constantly striving for it, learning about it, and preparing myself for it.

But sometimes, it feels like: “It is impossible to achieve this! The goal is too far away.” From this impossibility and from the fact that you reveal evil in yourself leads to disappointment, shame, and anger. You are angry at yourself for lacking something. How can these states aid in my advancement?

Answer: Look at these states from the outside. Sort out this person you represent. You will see how much you are given balanced forces that you can control.

Avoid the Trap of Self-Satisfaction

202.0Jacob is the quality of a person engaged in Torah and Mitzvot [commandments], and Esau is the evil inclination (Rabash, Assorted Notes, 375, “Jacob Sent”).

Question: If Esau symbolizes a state in which the evil inclination convinces a person that their actions are already perfect and worthy of greatness, how can one avoid the trap of self-satisfaction and pride to continue working on oneself and striving for spiritual growth?

Answer: A person must simply keep moving forward, constantly examining whether their thoughts, intentions, and desires enable them to progress.

Question: Why does Esau not want to accept Jacob’s blessing, and why must he be persuaded?

Answer: Because he is entirely opposite to the quality of bestowal. This makes it extremely difficult for us to connect with him. However, once he finally accepts this quality, a great correction will occur.

What Determines Overall Success?

530Question: In the group we learn to direct all our intentions and actions toward the Creator for the benefit of a friend. But we have no control over our hearts, and we have egoistic intentions. What determines the success of a single common group action in bestowal?

Answer: The general success depends on how connected you are with each other. This is the most important thing!

I cannot influence the Creator alone and neither can you, nor anyone else. But the group as a whole, even if it is a weak group, can.
