Surround The City With Walls

Laitman_417Torah, Deuteronomy 28:52: And they will besiege you in all your cities, until your high and fortified walls in which you trust come down, throughout all your land. And they will besiege you in all your cities throughout all your land, which the Lord, your God, has given you.

Your enemy is your own egoism. It even appears before you as something external.

The seven nations existing in the land of Israel that are described in the Torah are the seven impure egoistic forces that constantly arise within you and interfere with the intention for complete bestowal and love.

It is written: “until your high and fortified walls in which you trust come down, throughout all your land.” This means that a person wants to be protected. However, this will not help because the wall must be inside the heart. You must erect such a wall in the heart that will collect only your corrected intentions inside and thus it will accumulate altruistic potential. Then gradually you will be able to turn it into a holy city.

A city cannot stand without walls. Therefore, in those ancient times in the land of Israel, there were several cities surrounded by walls. To this day they are considered cities. These are: Jerusalem, Tiberias, Hebron, and Safed. Everything else, according to the Torah, is not considered a city.

This is the consequence of the spiritual law: you must surround yourself with the screen (Masach) through which your own evil intentions that you consider external will not enter your chosen internal intentions of bestowal and love. There must be a wall between them.

Outside of this wall, your not yet corrected egoistic intentions are divided into Beria, Yetzira, and Assiya. You can go out of your city, gradually take those intentions, and bring them closer to the city by correcting them, up to the point when you place them within yourself and begin using them in the right way.

Therefore, there is a strip around the city called 70 Amah (Amah is a cubit, 56 centimetres) and then another 2,000 Amah. You can move a certain distance away from the center, and since not very egoistic desires are located there, you can communicate with them, gradually attracting them to correction and taking them inside the city.

Question: Will these walls ever fall?

Answer: The walls will fall only at the end of the final correction when everything external will become internal.

Why Can’t We Feel The Stony Heart?

Laitman_096Question: Why can’t we feel the stony heart?

Answer: It is possible to feel the stony heart, but it is impossible to work with it because it cannot be changed in any way. You see a desire in yourself, a quality that is unshakable like a rock, and you cannot do anything with it.

You begin to work with it, wrap it into something, try to connect it to something, blast it, shower it, grind it like in a concrete mixer, and then you see again that this is the same rock, the same egoism.

“You Will Neither Drink Of Wine”

3Torah, Deuteronomy, Tavo, 28:39: You will plant vineyards and work [them], but you will neither drink of [their] wine, or gather [the grapes], because the worms will devour them.

There will be no blessings in your actions because all of them are aimed at satisfying your egoism.

Torah, Deuteronomy, Tavo, 28:40: You will have olive trees throughout all your boundaries, but you will not anoint with [their] oil, because your olive trees will drop off.

According to the Torah this oil is used for lighting, food, and hygiene. If you do not have the opportunity to use oil, then this is a very big problem, because under the oil is meant the Light of Hochma. Without the Light of Hochma you can not correctly understand what is happening to you.

The disappearance of the oil in addition to the disappearance of grains is the end. Grain (bread) is the quality of Bina, bestowal. Wine and oil are the quality of Hochma, only in different forms. Therefore, in the material world the disappearance of all of this leads a person to death from starvation. In the spiritual form, you lose the connection of Malchut and Bina and after this, you no longer have an opportunity to correct yourself.

Today, we are given the opportunity; please choose what you want: life or death, reward or punishment. You invest, you work, but because your intention is for yourself and not for the benefit of others, you end up losing in everything. And today we see it, both the material and spiritual disappear.

Humanity has come to the state when it will be sighing heavily, like over an abyss uttering an eerie cry: “What have we come to and what do we need this for?” It is because a terrible depression and despair are worse than death, you cannot die, but you also cannot live.

I think that this is a good state. We just need to prepare a quick answer based on our love for people and show them a way out of this situation.

You Will See The Future World In Your Lifetime

Laitman_198.jpgTorah, Deuteronomy 28:45: All these curses will befall you, pursuing you and overtaking you to destroy you because you did not obey the Lord, your God, to observe His commandments and statutes which He commanded you.

The person is being slowly annihilated until he comes to the realization that all that the Creator requires of him is the similarity to Him, that is, performing all the actions for the benefit of others, not for oneself.

Torah, Deuteronomy 28:46 – 28:47: And they will be as a sign and a wonder, upon you and your offspring, forever, because you did not serve the Lord, your God, with happiness and with gladness of heart, when [you had an] abundance of everything.

At one time, we were briefly given the state of “abundance of everything,” but we learned nothing from it. Egoism prevailed and the people of Israel fell from the level of bestowal, love, and connection among them, plunged once again into an internecine war and this ended their history in the land of Israel.

The fall was terrible. People killed each other while fighting among themselves. Some were fighting for being spiritually pure and for doing everything only for the sake of bestowal and mutual love. Others did not understand them, believing that they simply steal from them by depriving them of a comfortable egoistic life. Therefore, the war was conducted at all levels, both spiritual and material.

The sages, seeing that the people could not keep the commandments in the way they were given in order to live in similarity to the Creator, gradually permitted them to perform them mechanically in the external form.

People began to believe that this was the realization of the Creator’s commandments. This is how the Judaism appeared that exists in this framework until now.

The wars gradually ceased, and the Jews received an opportunity to live in the state of exile and the simultaneous external mechanical keeping of the commandments, although, in fact, the commandments imply step-by-step correction of egoism in 613 of its particular desires up to the level of love your neighbor as yourself.

However, when the people transformed them into ordinary physical actions, then it became possible for every egoist who fell from the spiritual level to consider that by this he is fulfilling the Creator’s Commandments and can be called “the people of Israel.”

Let’s assume that ablution of the hands symbolizes purification of desires from the egoistic intention because hands represent a person’s desires. Dipping into the water means washing away all of egoism. Bestowing to others is exiting yourself. Yet people, by performing all this and sharing something with others, believe that they are doing noble deeds. That is, all the spiritual commandments turned into various actions of our world.

People began to believe that for this they were entitled to the future world after death. However, this is not so. It is written in the Torah, “You shall see your world in your lifetime.”

It means that if you follow the orders of the Torah correctly, then you immediately attain the upper world, where you act through your soul.
You perceive the new world through the correct inner feelings, that is, through the forces of bestowal and love and the general force that is called the Creator, which is revealed to you.

A Difficult Path To Awareness

Laitman_001.01Torah, Deuteronomy 28:51: They will devour the fruit of your livestock and the fruit of your soil, to destroy you. They will not leave over anything for you of the grain, wine, oil, offspring of your cattle or flocks of your sheep, until they annihilate you.

Gradually a person becomes exhausted and sees how egoism slowly kills him during his lifetime leaving nothing sacred: not family, children, or grandchildren. He loses connection with them and begins to feel that this is not his.

Egoism dominates him so much that he cannot accept anyone from his environment as more or less necessary or important. For the sake of his petty egoism, he is ready to sacrifice everything. And then egoism also puts him to death.

It is written about this: “They will not leave over anything for you of the grain, wine, oil, offspring of your cattle or flocks of your sheep, until they annihilate you.”

This is spiritual death. You eat yourself and do not know what to do. This is not a physical hunger, but you just feel to what extent you are becoming insensitive and distanced in relation to others, perceiving nothing and no one. And they look at you as if you are a monster.

We will endure many more such states, but eventually all of this will be accumulated in the egoism and will lead to its correction.
The most important thing is to realize all of this, otherwise there is no point. The Torah is given only for this. On the spiritual path, you clearly see that you are doing base, stupid things, and you even enjoy it, but you cannot help it.

This is the way to realize our nature in order to attain the nature of the Creator through it, which is the goal of our development.

“The Stranger Who Is Among You”

167Torah, Deuteronomy 28:43 – 28:44: The stranger who is among you will arise above you, higher and higher, while you will descend lower and lower. He will lend to you, but you will not lend to him. He will be at the head, while you will be at the tail.

“The stranger who is among you” is the egoism you caused within yourself and now you cannot get rid of it. It fully controls you, indulges you, and you have absolutely nothing left of you own. You will exist in the lowest state and it is only thanks to it.
And you yourself want it, you cannot tear yourself away from your egoism. You have no strength to give it up.

Question: What does it mean, “He will lend to you, but you will not lend to him”?

Answer: You cannot give it anything, but it will give you energy for egoistic actions from which egoism will be the only one to profit. This is how it is in our world. Egoism leads you wherever it wants.

Question: If “he will lend to me,” does it mean that I need it?

Answer: Yes. Everybody acts only in a way that is beneficial for his egoism. He does not suspect that egoism, which is hiding within him, is not him, but “a stranger who lends to him.”

The Creator controls a person in such a tricky way. He can do anything with a person with the help of egoism.
And all this is to the person’s detriment, but he is unable to resist until the very last moment when, as it is written in The Book of Zohar, he opens his mouth unable to refuse a drop of poison that brings him an immediate pleasure, and he swallows it and dies.

The Torah Reveals Eternity

935Torah, Deuteronomy 29:08: And you shall observe the words of this covenant and fulfill them, in order that you will succeed in all that you do.

The Torah presents very complex and serious conditions for correcting egoism. But we must do everything in order to fulfill them. Their realization occurs within a person through the correction of his egoistic nature so that he could come to connection with others and show the entire world the possibility of unity, which humanity needs so much today.

Then we will indeed bring the upper Light into our world. While still existing in the corporeal world, we will rise and reveal the next world, as it is written: “Reveal your world while you are still in this life,” and we will begin our existence in it.

Once this happens, the psychological concept of life and death will disappear. Everything will become one eternal existence beyond time, space, and motion. We must come to this. The Torah reveals eternity for us.

So The Lord Will Delight

119Torah, Deuteronomy 28:63: And it will be, just as the Lord rejoiced over you to do good for you and to increase you, so will the Lord cause to rejoice over you to annihilate you and to destroy you. And you will be uprooted from the land which you enter therein, to possess it.

On one hand, the Creator destroys your egoistic desires that prevent you from fulfilling the laws of bestowal and love, but He does it in an evil rather than a kind way. On the other hand, He rejoices because in any case the correction is taking place.

In our world we are unable to appreciate it, in the same way as we are unable to approve of or justify the sufferings that occurred during the inquisition or the Holocaust.

In fact, these are enormous corrections because we could not do them ourselves.

The Creator is the property of the highest degree, which exists in the corrected state, and therefore it is said that He is delighted. After all, this action draws a big Light in the worlds. It causes great darkness within us because we exist in properties opposite to His.

At The Entrance To The Land Of Israel

laitman_749.01In the chapter “Tavo” (“When you come”), Moses explains to the people what they must do at the entrance to the Land of Israel, which is when they rise to a new spiritual degree.

Land (Eretz) is from the word “Ratzon” (desire), and “Israel” (Isra-El) means straight to the Creator. The ascent to the degree where all a person’s aspiration is directed only to the Creator is called entrance to the land of Israel. There is not any geography or history here!

It is written in the Torah that the sons of Israel will both curse and bless, meaning they will have the right and left line and they will fight their problems in order to unite even more. At that, the steps of elevation in the land of Israel are very difficult, not simple, and are revealed gradually.

Conquering this land in this way, these desires and intentions, the sons of Israel gradually reveal the Creator within themselves. In other words, this desire called the land of Israel manifests between them, in which they attain Him more and more.

Everything that happened before, during the correction in the desert, was aimed at not harming each other. Now their desires connect with each other above hatred and all the problems. By covering hatred with love, they reveal the Creator.

This is no longer a desert but internal wars. They know that they are facing a huge terrible war, each one within himself and with each other.

How To Reach Abundance?

Laitman_032.01Torah, Deuteronomy 28:21: The Lord will make pestilence cleave to you, until it has exterminated you from upon the land, to which you are coming, to possess it.

If the Creator evokes desires in you that you can correct, but you don’t do it, then these desires become as if destroyed—they go down again.

They are taken away from you but taken in such a way that you will still correct them, but already forcibly: either through hunger, or death, or wars, or through some other problems.

It is written about this: “The Lord will make pestilence cleave to you.” After all, if you corrected them, there would be abundance.
