Leprosy (Tzara’ath)

Laitman_120The Torah, Numbers 12:09 – 12:15: The wrath of the Lord flared against them and He left. The cloud departed from above the Tent, and behold, Miriam was afflicted with tzara’ath, [as white] as snow. Then Aaron turned to Miriam and behold, she was afflicted with tzara’ath.

Aaron said to Moses, “Please, master, do not put sin upon us for acting foolishly and for sinning. Let her not be like the dead, which comes out of his mother’s womb with half his flesh consumed!”

Moses cried out to the Lord, saying, “I beseech you, God, please heal her.” The Lord replied to Moses, “If her father were to spit in her face, would she not be humiliated for seven days? She shall be confined for seven days outside the camp, and afterwards she may enter. So Miriam was confined outside the camp for seven days, and the people did not travel until Miriam had entered.

This is a very serious correction. First the revelation of egoism occurs, then its correction, which is a period of suffering, and then movement forward.

Suffering is not punishment. In the Torah, punishment is correction.

Remark: But leprosy is a terrible correction.

My Comment: Naturally. Lesions appear on a person’s skin because the skin symbolizes the most external egoistic stage. It is affected the most.

The skin is the largest organ of the body. Just like the liver, kidneys, and so on, the skin is an organ. It breathes, works, and processes everything. The exchange of gas with atmosphere and exchange of heat happens through it, and it feels everything.

We do not understand what it is. In our time, it is fashionable to get all sorts of tattoos on the skin, but they disrupt the entire work of the body.

Question: What does leprosy on the skin mean?

Answer: Leprosy on the skin is the revelation of the very last stage of egoism. In other words, this is a cleansing because all of it was inside and now it is manifesting from the outside. The only way to cure it is by the Light of the Creator.

The Place Where The Creator Is Revealed

laitman_608.02Torah, Leviticus 8:33 – 8:36: And you shall not leave the entrance of the Tent of Meeting for seven days, until the day of the completion of your investiture days, he will inaugurate you for seven days. As he did on this day, so the Lord has commanded to do, to effect atonement for you.

And you shall stay day and night for seven days at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting. You shall observe the Lord’s command, so that you will not die, for thus I was commanded. And Aaron and his sons did all the things that the Lord commanded through Moses.

Breaking away from egoism is the atonement.

It is compensation for getting rid of something impure, negative, and detrimental like, for example, some kind of disease. This is the way you purify yourself and start a different, healthier life. This is exactly what happened here.

The six days symbolize the six Sefirot: Chesed, Gevurah,Tiferet, Netzach, Hod, and Yesod; the seventh day represents self-purification and is called Malchut. Aaron and his sons are able to ascend above the ego and use it for the purpose of love and bestowal. Then, they will be called Cohens or Levis.

Malchut works only above itself by raising the reflecting Light. In other words, I work in order for someone else to get pleasure.
But we are not talking here about people and their physical bodies that require energy. We are talking about spiritual qualities. Therefore, everything I can share, apart from necessities for my own survival, goes toward giving above Malchut.

Question: What does “work with the reflecting Light” mean?

Answer: Malchut has to become similar to the six upper qualities that are above it.

The Light gets reflected off the screen between Malchut and Yesod and then returns back up. Specifically, in the Light that is reflected off Malchut and rises from the bottom upward, the similarity to the six qualities gets formed, which is the revelation and perception of the Creator. From that reflection, an image is formed of the new, spiritual person, which is the embodiment of the Creator.

The person and the Creator join within this image. Moreover, the joined image resides between the inborn egoism of the person and the altruism of the Creator. It follows that the image is neither the Creator nor the person, but is their joining into one whole. This is the state of wholeness that we aspire to.

Based on the strength of the unified image of the person and the Creator, we can determine which of the 125 levels of correction the person is on.

Malchut remains a desire to receive. The intention to give is above Malchut and it transfers from there to the others. Therefore, the quality of bestowal—the place in which the Creator is revealed—is built above Malchut.

“A Wind Went Forth From The Lord”

laitman_746.03Torah, Numbers 11:30 – 11:31: Then Moses entered the camp; he and the elders of Israel. A wind went forth from the Lord and swept quails from the sea and spread them over the camp about one day’s journey this way and one day’s journey that way, around the camp, about two cubits above the ground.

A wind (Ruach) is a movement. “A wind went forth from the Lord” means that a new inner movement enveloped a person.

“And swept quails from the sea and spread them over the camp… about two cubits above the ground.” If we look at this from the point of view of physical units of measurement, an elbow [an ell, a cubit] is approximately 60 centimetres. This means that two cubits are one meter and twenty centimetres. The whole camp was covered with quails for one day’s journey from the camp in all directions. Can you imagine how many tons of meat this is? The people demanded food and they received it.

Naturally, this is an allegory. It does not mean quails. Do you want to receive fulfillment into your egoistic desires? Please, come and get it!

“I Will Give You The Stone Tablets”

laitman_740.02Torah, Exodus, 24:12 – 24:14: And the Lord said to Moses, “Come up to Me to the mountain and remain there, and I will give you the stone tablets, the Law and the commandments, which I have written to instruct them.”

So Moses and Joshua, his servant, arose, and Moses ascended to the mount of God.

And to the elders he said, “Wait for us here until we return to you, and here Aaron and Hur are with you; whoever has a case, let him go to them.”

This is about the separation of various levels of governance. There is the same separation within a person as there is in society. There are common people, Levites, Cohens, and Moses within him. Yet, only the point called Moses enters the uppermost contact with the next level, and then the ascent begins.

It is written, “I will give you the stone tablets, the Law and the commandments.” The point called Moses gets included into the next degree that starts from the inanimate level (Domem – stony level, what is called Lev HaEven, the stony heart) and surrenders to the upper force that carves the commandments on it. This is the work of the Creator.

Moses is unable to carve on his heart (on the level of Lev HaEven) the words of the Torah, that is, the spiritual commandments that represent the ten Sefirot, the most corrected and most profound ones. After all, the basis of the next degree is the correction of a person on the deepest egoistic level.

Tear Them Down And Shatter Their Monuments

Laitman_115.05Torah, Exodus 23:24: You shall not prostrate yourself before their gods, and you shall not worship them, and you shall not follow their practices, but you shall tear them down and you shall utterly shatter their monuments.

What is being referred to here is not idol worship of primitive tribes, but about man building the likeness of the Creator within himself.

“Shatter their monuments” means to destroy all egoistic desire, all the way to the last level, to the “rocks,” in other words, to the inanimate level. Man must stop using egoism in any of its forms.

Initially, when a quality called, for example, Jebusites or Hittites, which had never been experienced before, begins to develop, a person may think that he can move toward the goal correctly with this quality: live in this world in order to grow spiritually. But, later, he begins to discover that this quality is opposite to the spiritual.

Moreover, this quality still needs to be developed to such an extent that you grow to despise it: you are ready to do whatever it takes to no longer remain in this guise, in this shell, in this form—that is how completely opposite it is to the likeness of the Creator.

Nonetheless, thanks to this, thanks to each of these forms, each of these qualities, each of these “nations,” the form of the Creator is revealed within you. That is how you come to recognize Him from all angles and gradually reveal Him.

Only a person who is moving toward the Creator is able to come to despise these “nations” within oneself.

Question: Any other hatred is not considered hatred?

Answer: No, earthly qualities are not being referred to here, but the people who took on the goal to make themselves similar to the Creator.

No matter how grand this sounds, it is still a very difficult job. Actually, the Creator does everything, but identifying all the opposites to Him within yourself to such an extent that you beg Him to correct you, that you must do yourself. “Strike me with a chisel and hammer, cut from me all the egoistic excesses and leave in me only Your image,”—this you need to beg for.

The Creator Hears Everyone’s Prayer

Laitman_153Question: What does it mean: “The Creator hears everyone’s prayer”?

Answer: The Creator is the upper system, the system of Bina, called Elokim.

This system hears all of our pleas because we are its consequence; we live inside Bina—not at its height, but inside of it—since it gives birth to us, takes care of us, and supports our existence so that we would desire to become like it. It is completely bestowing and we are all receivers. That is how we were created.

Bina gave birth to us and takes care of us, and we gradually reach a state where we find that we are opposite to it. We do not care that we are opposite to it; we do not even identify that this is so, but an aspiration to attain this degree of Bina awakens in us.

This aspiration is called the point in the heart. This point awakens us because the degree of Bina is always working on us. This goes on until we start to turn to it, wishing to come closer to it. We suddenly feel that it is important. We aspire to it as if yearning to return home, to attain our source.

What do we aspire to? To the root of our life, the place where it originates. We aspire to our source in order to find answers to the questions—“Where do I come from? Why do I exist? For what purpose?”—because the root contains everything. We do not know about the future, but the root exists, without a doubt.

Therefore, we aspire to Bina since we contain a spark from there. This spark connects us to the degree of Bina. Our will to receive is completely on the degree of Malchut, which Bina gave birth to.

This is how we exist inside an inner sensation between two worlds: between the degree of Bina, the upper world, and the degree of Malchut, the lower world. This is already contained in us. Now our work is to constantly respect, awaken, and grow this spark. That is what we do with the help of the work in the group.

“The People Rose Up All That Day”

laitman_746.02Torah, Numbers 11:32 – 11:34: The people rose up all that day and all night and the next day and gathered the quails. [Even] the one who gathered the least collected ten heaps. They spread them around the camp in piles. The meat was still between their teeth; it was not yet finished, and the anger of the Lord flared against the people, and the Lord struck the people with a very mighty blow. He named that place Kivroth Hata’avah [Graves of Craving], for there they buried the people who craved.

Everyone died except those who did not touch this ration from the sky. This is not talking about people but desires in every person.

All egoistic desires—those that hunt these gifts—are instantly punished in the desert. Therein lies their correction—they die.

This is about one person who advances in his spiritual development and sees that all of his requests can be satisfied, but it will entail his spiritual death.

Question: What are the “quails”?

Answer: Everything in our world results from the influence on a desire of a certain Light and the desire is formed by its influence. The Light generates desires, which then are revealed as dead, and is named in this world.

Question: In principle, do all the desires that prevent one from advancing get cut off?

Answer: On this degree, yes. But then they arise again and are corrected. Nothing remains in the egoistic state.

Dead means not suitable for use now. The next moment, at the next degree, all of this is revived and corrected. Just as we die in this world, in our understanding, in our view of what happens to us, and are then reborn.

Malchut Is Waiting

laitman_282.01Torah, Numbers 12:01: Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses regarding the Cushite woman he had married, for he had married a Cushite woman.

Moses’s wife Zipporah is a Cushite, meaning she is dark-skinned. It means that Moses’s Malchut is much darker, harder, and heavier than the desires of Miriam and Aaron. Therefore, when he works with her, he reaches a higher level.

In the same way, we now have to attach ourselves to all of humanity. Can you imagine the Malchut that is waiting to be connected?! At the same time, when this happens all will receive such an elevation!

When Do We Reach The Land Of Israel?

laitman_747.01Question: Why is it that after the exodus from Egypt the people of Israel were constantly complaining and were not satisfied by this progress?

Answer: This is how the present is assessed in relation to the past and the freedom of will is selected from the two states.

This happens on every degree, at every step, since egoism is always growing and we need to rise above it. Greater egoism and greater ascent. This goes on until we enter the land of Israel. Throughout the 40 years of wandering in the desert, we all climb Mount Sinai.

Previously only Moses ascended it, but now we are pulling everyone along with us. This means he is leading the people across the desert.

The ascent to Mount Sinai, meaning the ascent above mutual hatred, is the purpose of man’s life. This is the start of bestowal, love, mutual connection, and the union of everyone into one single whole, and to this extent—the Creator is revealed.

The land of Israel is attained only at the end when you reach love. But the entire ascent lies in rising above egoism. This is called “having the quality of Hassadim.”

Hesed is mercy: when you are concerned about others the same way they are concerned about you.

During this, each time at the level you are on, there is a suppression of your needs by reassessing the needs of others as more valuable, more necessary. It is similar to how a mother takes care of a baby, valuing its needs more than anything. That is how we are in relation to everyone.

It is as if you let another person inside you, completely free up space for him on this degree. When you do this, the egoism of the next degree immediately begins to arise in you. It is so strong that you do not even notice that person, and if you happen to see him, he annoys you and is repulsive to you. Then you start working on this again until he becomes closer to you than you are to yourself.

This means you have entered a new degree. And it continues over and over.

“That Soul Shall Be Cut Off From Its People.”

Laitman_002Torah, Leviticus 7:21: And a person who touches anything unclean, whether uncleanness from a human or an unclean animal [carcass] or any unclean [carcass of an] abominable creature, and then eats of the flesh of a peace offering to the Lord, that soul shall be cut off from its people.

A corpse symbolizes an uncorrected egoistic desire. It died by itself, but it has not yet been corrected.

In other words, there is life and death. After the egoistic life of a desire comes the death of the ego and then its alteration to altruism. It moves like a wave: plus-minus, plus-minus. You plunge into minus (egoism), come to zero, and then you translate egoism to altruism. But a zero still does not mean anything. You can deal only with the spiritually alive.

“Touching the unclean” means entering into an inner contact with an egoistic desire, being with it in adaptation, in understanding, in a mutual state. That is, if you can say spiritually that “I came into contact with someone,” then you are in the same state as he is. And if he is a dead body, then you are at the same level.

It is written: “And a person who touches anything unclean… and then eats of the flesh of a peace offering to the Lord, that soul shall be cut off from its people.” You cannot bless, you cannot do such deeds.

This is about the laws of incompatibility or the laws of similarity because everything in the universe is built on the property of similarity.
