The Higher Power From The Point Of View Of Kabbalah

Laitman_043Question: Most of humanity is religious. They have their own impressions about the higher power, God, the Creator. In the wisdom of Kabbalah, what is the higher power and what is the fundamental difference?

Answer: Humanity has always feared something and has been afraid until today. It always tries to find some method of protection from the unexpected and cruel forces of nature.

The same is said about Abraham who was first a priest in ancient Babylonian and later discovered the higher power,  called nature or the Creator, as a singular and good force that doesn’t demand rituals and sacrifices. Based upon this discovery, he began to conduct research and clarification and eventually taught people as well.

That is how Kabbalistic language was formed; its foundations come from the first Kabbalist, Adam, who lived 5,777 years ago.

Since the wisdom of Kabbalah developed from Adam to Abraham and from Abraham to us, it expanded its conceptual system through four languages with which Kabbalists describe the upper world. Through these languages, we gradually begin to feel what the Kabbalists felt and described.

Purpose Of The Mixed Multitude

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe implementation of the Torah starts from the fact that while reading it we begin to understand what it is calling for and what it represents, and then we move on.

Comment: But there is great resistance to it.

My Response: It is not resistance because everything comes from the broken desires that remained the same desires but without a screen, which counteracts egoism and raises it to its inverse state, that is, to the level of bestowal and love for others.

First, egoism should be revealed as a demonstration of its nature, a demonstration of evil. Naturally, at this stage, Kabbalists receive many obstacles that haunt them and are revealed as evil.

This also happened during the exodus of the people of Israel from Egypt. After all, it isn’t a stroll in the Sinai desert, but an escape from our egoism, separation from it, and elevation above it. Therefore, the desires that are called Egyptian were practically killed within a person. Pharaoh himself agreed to this and released them.

However, the so-called “mixed multitude” (Erev Rav) didn’t release them. These are people who think that they have another, more correct Torah. As it is written, they are “God-fearing servants of Pharaoh.” They are characterized by a dual state, when they, while being in this world, at the same time, wish to earn the next world—paradise, for their egoistic work.

“Tell us what to perform in this world without correcting ourselves,” this is the work of Pharaoh. Pharaoh says, “Why do you need all your problems? Work, do whatever you want. Pray, act, everything is open to you. The only thing that you shouldn’t do is correct yourselves. All the rest is in front of you; you will be respected and honored. You will possess the entire world.”

Unfortunately, or I would say, to great joy, our goal is to achieve connection with the Creator, integration and full equivalence with Him. It’s not just to perform physical commandments, movements, actions, and to consider that we will obtain this or the next world, or both worlds together for doing so; it is to rise to the state where we don’t need any rewards.

We want to receive the upper Light of correction that returns to the source, to the Creator, and to become fully equivalent to Him when we won’t have any personal desire left in us. It’s not that we pretend or don’t understand it because it manifests in us more and more, but we receive greater and greater strength to work against egoism from the upper Light.

In this case, we ascend 125 degrees to the level of the Creator. This is the implementation of the Kabbalistic method. Therefore, the main problem for those who don’t agree with advancement to the Creator in this world is the problem with the wisdom of Kabbalah.

It is necessary to do everything in order to reveal this wisdom to the wide circles of the Jewish people and the nations of the world. Baal HaSulam in the article “Messiah’s Shofar” writes that Kabbalah should be spread around the world even before the people of Israel begin to master it.

He calls to penetrate into it gradually, and then we will understand the need for it. After all, even Pharaoh understood what the realization of the method of correction of humanity is, and therefore he let the people of Israel out of Egypt. But it came to him with great difficulty, through heavy blows.

Therefore, obviously, now the opponents of Kabbalah dissemination will also receive big blows, and we must distribute it as widely as possible.

This is not an easy task with many challenges on our way.

Question: So, do you believe that the Kabbalists couldn’t confine themselves to the internal work alone?

Answer: No. During the exit from Egypt and also now, the “mixed multitude” (Erev Rav) will persecute people departing from Egypt (from their egoism) and rising to the correction. This is the army that Pharaoh sends after the Jews. His soldiers think that they are protecting the sanctity of the Torah and so they, by all means, prevent the spreading of Kabbalah.

In fact, the mixed multitude is the most ardent opponent of the ascent of humanity to the level of the Creator.

Question: The mixed multitude wanted the people to stay in Egypt. So why didn’t these people stay there, but instead they followed the others when they started to exit Egypt?

Answer: No, they stayed at first. But when they saw that the people already approached the Red Sea (Yam Suf), they chased after them. Without them, the people wouldn’t have made the crossing because they were afraid to go further when they approached the Red Sea.

Here they were supposed to rise by faith above reason, to put themselves into the power of the Creator, to make the first inclusion into Him. And in this they received help precisely from their pursuers who came very close to them.

This is when Nachshon was manifested, the special force that pulled everyone after it. However, if it were not for the negative force of the mixed multitude, the people of Israel wouldn’t be able to make the crossing.

The most important contradiction between them is: is it necessary to fulfill the Torah not for one’s sake, not in order to receive some material privileges, but only for the sake of one’s neighbor without any reward? If they agree to this, they are obliged to break through the Red Sea, and the so-called mixed multitude helps them in it by sharpening the problem. Then the conquering of the method of elevation to the Creator starts.

Unfortunately, the mixed multitude follows them and constantly spoils their lives. All the problems come only from it. In particular in the desert it incites the people to make the golden calf.

This is the force that must be corrected gradually, understanding that everything is done only by the upper force, and we need to interact correctly with all the obstacles that it brings to us in order to direct us to the correct goal. Therefore, all the obstacles have a clear direction, showing us how to advance.

Why Isn’t The Wisdom Of Kabbalah Considered A Religion?

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Why isn’t the wisdom of Kabbalah considered a religion if it speaks about the upper force, about the Creator?

Answer: It is because the wisdom of Kabbalah explores and studies the upper force like a physicist who explores and studies the physical forces in our world. The wisdom of Kabbalah explores and studies the next layer of nature, the physical forces of the upper world.

Demons, Angels, And Miracles

Laitman_151Question: The Book of Zohar mentions demons, angels, and other miracles. It seems strange to me that Kabbalah is not mysticism. Would you explain what you mean by that?

Answer: The fact is that the Kabbalists used terms such as “satan,” “angel,” “demon,” and so on, to name physical forces of nature.

The positive and negative forces of nature are equivalent. Moreover, negative forces are in no way worse than positive forces, but in Hebrew, they are described in those terms, and therefore, Kabbalah uses them. It was written in Kabbalah 5,000 years ago when there was no Christianity nor Judaism.

The fact that people began to give the names of physical forces, forms, volumes, and add them to their lives as if placing them in our world is the imagination of a person; this is mysticism.

Hawking Warns About A Threat From Outer Space

laitman_747_04In the News (The Guardian): “’We come in peace’ might be the traditional opening gambit for aliens in science fiction, but we should be wary about beaming back a response to any advanced life-forms in real life, Stephen Hawking has warned.

“Our first contact from an advanced civilisation could be equivalent to when Native Americans first encountered Christopher Columbus and things ‘didn’t turn out so well’, he cautioned. …

“It is not the first time Hawking has warned about the prospect of hostile aliens. Launching the Breakthrough Listen project, which will scan the nearest million stars for signs of life, last year he suggested that any civilisation reading our messages could be billions of years ahead of humans. ‘If so they will be vastly more powerful and may not see us as any more valuable than we see bacteria,’ he said.”

My Comment: If there were an extraterrestrial civilization that existed that possessed such high technology, accordingly it would also be on a higher level of thinking and social order. In fact, all structures of social development will develop in parallel and determine the levels of development of each other.

According to the wisdom of Kabbalah, no other civilizations besides this one on the face of the Earth exists in nature! Our universe fully reflects the higher system of HaVaYaH, from which it follows that we are alone in the universe and must bring the entire universe, the levels of the still, vegetative, and animate, to complete connection specifically uniting reasonably on the social (human) level.

How Do You Become Devoted To The Wisdom Of Kabbalah?

Laitman_912Question from Facebook: You said in one of your lessons that you all your time with your teacher Rabash. I was very impressed by this, but, at the same time, I also felt afraid. I feel that I will not be able to devote myself to the wisdom of Kabbalah like that.

Answer: Everyone acts according to his inclination. I knew that if I found information about the meaning of life, I would totally devote myself to studying it. It was when I heard Rabash’s first words that I felt that this was what I had wanted to hear for 30 years until I found him.

If you accurately explain to a person the reason for the creation of the world, what we should do, what we should reach, and you bring examples and present everything in a very logical manner, there is no reason to refute it.

Question: Does every individual look for a teacher according to the nature of his soul? How does that happen?

Answer: I looked for everything in a purely logical manner. I was never interested in assumptions and religious tales, nor in mysticism or different philosophies. I was only interested in pure accurate logic.

There was a shocking contradiction between a person’s externality and his internal world until I finally understood what a wise Kabbalist and a real Jewish sage means compared to the external impression that he made on people who didn’t know about his internal filling; it was amazing.

Every person has a destiny, a measure, a place, a day, and a time in this history. Perhaps I had to do that in our generation and you will do it in the next generation or in another time or another dimension.

In any case, everyone will fulfill his destiny and will totally resemble everyone else. We will all reach the same upper level!

Love Is The Fulfillment Of The Desires Of The Other

laitman_613Question: Where is the boundary between the spiritual and material worlds? How do we cross it? Does this boundary exist?

Answer: The boundary between the spiritual and material worlds is inside a person. We can consider and measure everything only relative to a person. Therefore, our attitude to the world and to life is very subjective; while I live, the universe shines.

But if I exit my egoism that psychologically is my nature and rise above it, I begin to feel the entire universe in a completely different sense. Because from the inside, I already see everything in the Light of bestowal, love, and altruism. My sensory organs perceive absolutely different characteristics and values, and therefore, the world looks completely different to me.

Question: Why is this called love?

Answer: Because I want to do good to my neighbor. I don’t know what is called love in our world, but in the wisdom of Kabbalah, love refers to such an attitude to the neighbor when you want to fulfill any of his desires. To do what he wants means to love him.

By feeling the neighbor as yourself, you reach your final correction and exit the framework of our world into the framework of the next world, the next degree of attainment and cognition.

Comment: There is an interesting phenomenon in physics that is called synergy, when the system is not equal to the sum of its subsystems. This, to some extent, is reminiscent of what Kabbalah says about the amazing connection, when people, through their unity, begin to feel like one single whole, which no longer divides into separate particles.

My Comment: The collective is much bigger than the sum of its parts.

Nothing Would Exist Without The Light

laitman_275Comment: According to the laws of physics, there are active particles of light, photons, that convey electromagnetic effects and bind the atoms and the molecules of which man is composed. In fact, the light (the photons) make us whole. If it weren’t for the light, our bodies would disintegrate into atoms.

According to the wisdom of Kabbalah, the Light also sustains the whole system.

My Response: Nothing would exist without the Light. The general Light is the Creator.

It is the same in physics. If the initial Light had not appeared, everything else could not have developed: waves, matter, etc.

From a Kabbalistic perspective, the Light ties our desires together. The Light gradually disappears and seems to fade away to the extent that our desires begin to gradually retreat, and so everything begins to fall apart.

This is the reason that we see that everything is divided into different parts in our world, although it is all one common whole.

Intention Is Beyond Matter

laitman_608_01Comment: Chemists who study the brain describe different chemical reactions for different desires. In fact, they have understood that it is possible to describe everything except intention. It is specifically this which differentiates a human from a beast.

In a beast, intentions and desires correspond, whereas in the human, the more he develops, the more his intention is separate from his desires.

My Comment: Intention is above nature, it is above matter. This is what I would like to achieve with the help of the influence of the upper Light on me. Intention is not desire and not Light.

Light is the origin of external energy. Desire is what already acts within my substance. If I want to achieve a new state, then the desire itself becomes intention. In the wisdom of Kabbalah, I don’t associate the intention with matter, but with the upper Light that changes me.

I Do Not Want To Be A Slave!

laitman_560Question: What is the difference between conscious spiritual work and unconscious spiritual work?

Answer: Unconscious spiritual work is summed up by the fact that all of us automatically carry out the instructions of nature, the work of the Creator. Working consciously means to begin to participate independently, wisely, with understanding, through planning in advance; and then our eyes will open and we will see where we are truly found.

In what way is the intelligence of a little child different from the intelligence of an adult? An adult understands where he is and what he is doing while a little child does not. The same thing happens even in the spiritual world. We still don’t understand or see the spiritual world because we cannot exist within it correctly. When we begin to acquire its characteristics, to the degree that we become equal to its characteristics, we begin to discover it among us.

Question: What does it mean that all of us are working for the Creator? If we are already carrying out the laws of nature, so where is the problem?

Answer: We carry out the laws of nature automatically, against our will. The problem is that you must consciously take upon yourself all of the functions of the Creator and fill His place. When we are in His place, meaning that we adhere to Him and fully attain His relationship with creation, to that degree we become like Him. This is the goal of development that has been placed before us.

Question: Does this mean that I am a slave of the Creator against my will?

Answer: Certainly. You are now like a guest sitting in front of the host and swallowing everything that the host gives him. So you must get up and say: “Stop! I am not interested in carrying out your instructions, except on condition that I will carry them all out independently, with the understanding that I am doing this to bestow to you both pleasure and goodness; I no longer want to be a slave but a conscious human being; I want to be like you!”
