Question: The second and the fourth stages of the spreading of the light are stages in action. And the third stage, as it is said in TES (The Study of the Ten Sefirot), is a kind of sample that a person receives from the Creator. What does it mean to receive a sample of bestowal?

Answer: It means to learn from the first stage how it transforms into the second, into the third, into the fourth stages, and in what way from the fourth stage we can connect with all the other stages and abide within them.

Question: It is said that the waters conceived and gave birth to darkness. How does the light of Hassadim give birth to darkness?

Answer: If we do not have the light of Hassadim, then we feel the darkness and do everything to attract the upper light to ourselves.

And how it comes to us depends on the state of the Kli. It is quite possible that the Kelim need the light of Hochma. Hochma cannot shine without the light of Hassadim.

Question: In TES (The Study of the Ten Sefirot) it is said that the fourth stage of the development of desire is the stage of action at the completion of the Kli of reception. What action is meant here?

Answer: It is about the action of light on the primary desire, which develops until the entire nature of light and the entire nature of desire of the Kli develop to such a degree that they are connected with each other and complement each other.

Question: Is there any example of this state?

Answer: No, there is no example yet. We are still unable to distinguish one desire from another and to speak of examples. But soon this will happen. Therefore, we must constantly strive toward the final state.

Question: In the four stages designated by the four letters, why does the “Hey” belong to both Bina and Malchut?

Answer: These are different qualities. The first “Hey” comes from the Creator’s will to bestow. This occurs within the creature’s will to receive that it senses, and it operates within it.

The difference is that the first stage comes from the light, while the last stage comes from the desire. Therefore, the desire in the final stage is the true one. And it is precisely this desire that we later study in all of nature.

Question: The “Vav” in the name “HaVaYaH” is the power of transmission, not a Kli itself, but at the same time it is precisely what connects above and below. Can we then say that the spiritual strength of Zeir Anpin lies in its emptiness and loyalty to the connection, rather than in desire?

Answer: No, this is the desire of Zeir Anpin. Desire is a parameter that we cannot set aside or not use. It is everything we have.

Question: What is the spreading of the light downward, and why is it called potential?

Answer: The spreading of the light from above downward takes place from a small desire to a greater desire.

In other words, it is the spreading of the light from the Creator to the created beings, and then within each created being to that place where this desire is revealed, until it reaches its true state completely filled with light.

Question: What does it mean that we are studying Torah with the intention of not cutting ourselves off from the Creator, but being connected to Him?

Answer: We can do anything, but there is a force in the universe we all exist in. If we want to receive changes in us from this force, then we imagine such an action that can cause the influence of the upper light on us, and then we change. Our intentions change, what we want from our actions. These are the changes that the action of the righteous brings about.

The intention to bestow means that you do not want anything for yourself, but wish to act only for the sake of the Creator. It is clear that none of us has such an intention. But as it is said in TES (The Study of the Ten Sefirot) that we can attract this light and this force that will correct us. Then we will have intentions to act for the sake of the Creator in what we see as such an opportunity.

Question: What is the difference between the desire to adorn oneself and to adorn another?

Answer: To adorn oneself is simple egoism and to adorn another is perhaps already altruism: from oneself to another.

Question: Does the Kli adorn itself or does the light adorn the Kli?

Answer: The adorns itself by giving the light the opportunity to highlight its properties of similarity to the light, that is, the properties of bestowal.

This happens in the reflected light.

Question: Baal HaSulam sometimes adds in the text: “Think about it and understand it well.” What points does he want to make? What kind of work should we do?

Answer: Gradually, we will feel it all. There are things that cannot be explained in words because understanding comes as a result of working together.

Question: You said the Creator is the first to awaken the light and creation itself cannot cause anything.
However, it is said that “I awaken the dawn, and not the dawn awakens me.” So what am I awakening if I cannot do anything?

Answer: You can accompany the Creator’s actions with your own actions. The lower can do it.

Question: Does the growth of Aviut, which attracts the light of Hassadim, come from the side of infinity or from creation?

Answer: From the side of creation.
