The Jewish Choice: Unity Or Anti-Semitism—Israel’s Duty Toward Humanity

laitman_283.02The people of Israel were assembled from those people who felt their duty to connect in order to comprehend the meaning of life and its purpose, the correction of creation, and the upper force. Therefore, they called themselves “Israel” (“Yashar-Kel“), which means “straight to the Creator.” Abraham chose these people from all the inhabitants of Babylon, that is, from all the nations of the world at that time, and he taught them the main principle of connection: love your neighbor as yourself.

Thus, they rose above the egoism that was constantly growing and swelling like yeast in the human society. However, this growth was purposeful: to ensure a sufficient gap between humanity’s massive egoism and the force of connection above the egoism society is obliged to achieve. When we reach a certain degree of opposition between egoism and connection, then within it, we begin to reveal the upper force, the upper world, and ourselves as belonging to the spiritual world.

The growing egoism is the engine that lifts us from this world to the spiritual world, from reception to bestowal, from hatred to love. If we follow the principles of “love will cover all crimes” and “everyone judges according to his own flaws,” then we can each individually, and as a group together, achieve such a strong connection in which the Creator will be revealed.

Over thousands of years, the group assembled by Abraham in Babylon has changed a lot. Part of it disappeared, dissolved in the nations of the world, and will later be revealed. There were many people among the people of Israel who have attained the degree of the Creator as they were able to overcome their egoism and connect. Over the years, the conditions changed, but the principle remains the same because the laws of the world are constant and unchanging. We only have to learn them and implement them in order to reach the corrected state.

Therefore, it is necessary to study the process that the group of Abraham went through in history, because “the deeds of the fathers will become a sign for the sons.” From this, we will understand the direction in which we move, what is happening to us, and what signs of the deeds of the fathers we can see today, because the eternal principle of love your neighbor as yourself, the law of connection, always works.

From the Ari onward, all the Kabbalists said that we have entered the era of the Messiah, that is, the time of the final correction. There is one last stage of our development left, although it might be quite long. As always, the nations of the world are applying pressure on the people of Israel, and this pressure is designed to force us to connect at least through the path of suffering.

The Jewish people must draw conclusions from their history and connect, following the example of their fathers. Through this connection, we will almost immediately feel relief from the external pressure thanks to our correct reaction to it and efforts to connect. Therefore, all the wars that are arising against us will immediately cease because we will begin to advance without external pressure. If we ourselves reveal our forces for advancement and rush forward, then those who were resisting us, on the contrary, will begin to help.

This will be a correct tendency, corresponding to the single upper force that wants to see humanity in such a connection. However, if we fail to make efforts in moving toward unity, then to the extent that these efforts are lacking, the nations of the world and the negative forces within the people of Israel will rise. They will start a struggle, a confrontation from all sides, in order to awaken us and force us to make the right choice: to understand the reason for this pressure and what we should do.

Today, we are in a very delicate and critical state. I spoke about this danger many years ago, but I did not expect that it would happen so quickly and that already in our time there would be such a special state between all the countries and nations all over the world.

We live in an era of new technologies, global communication, and we have reached a certain inner understanding of what is happening, the responsibility of humanity for our planet and the entire universe. In our time, there are many highly educated people with a broad outlook, not like it used to be before. Almost everyone has the opportunity to travel around the world and see the life of other nations, connecting with the whole world above distances and differences in languages.

However, in the matter of anti-Semitism, we see that nothing helps: the law that is bringing humanity toward connection acts harshly, one might even say cruelly. Above all, it applies pressure on those who should be the first to lead humanity, on the one nation that must do this work, that should become pioneers on this path, and lead the whole world.

There is no way around this law. The upper light, the upper forces are arranged in such a way that as soon as the people of Israel, the group assembled in the time of Abraham from all the nations, are united again, all the roads are opening for them. There are no difficulties, but to the contrary, there are forces of nature ready to help them and elevate them to the spiritual level on their shoulders. And following them, all of humanity will be happy to connect.

This is how the upper governance works, and this is how it will be. Everything depends on Israel as Baal HaSulam writes in the “Introduction to the Book of Zohar, only they have the freedom of choice.

Israel are those who are drawn to come closer to the Creator. They feel obliged to lead themselves and all of humanity to a common connection and spiritual elevation. Any person in the world, any nationality, black, white, red, yellow, all four layers in humanity—1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th—belong to one nation, which is obliged to achieve connection and adhesion with the Creator.

Therefore, there is growing pressure on this corporeal group called Israel all over the world, even though they do not understand what is happening to them. After all, they abandoned this work of bringing themselves and the whole world to adhesion with the Creator a long time ago. Humanity also did not receive the awareness that the world is undergoing a purposeful development that leads it to complete correction; therefore, it does not understand the reason for its hatred. The Jews are confused about what is wanted from them, and out of their great egoism, they dream only of peace and prosperity. The nations of the world feel as if Jews are hiding something from them, not allowing them to come to a good life.

Therefore, these two groups feel lost in the dark where aggression emanating from the nations of the world collides with the hatred and fear felt by the Jews. It is clear that this is no good for either of them: great suffering awaits those who commit violence and those who persist in not wanting to hear about correction. Therefore, it is our responsibility to explain the situation to both groups and push the correction process forward as much as possible.1

Those Who Were Resisting Us Will Help Us

If Jews begin to connect, the nations of the world will accept it gladly because they will see that through this connection, they can get closer to the essence of creation. With the very point, the very desire, from which anti-Semitism is now growing, they will feel that the right movement has begun because they will begin to receive illumination on this Reshimo.

Anti-Semitism is the feeling of lack in the nations of the world, the need to receive light through the connection of the Jews. It is the most ardent anti-Semites who will be the first to join the Jews. We have already seen such dramatic overturns in history.2

The Upper Force Does Not Change Its Plans

Today, American Jews already recognize the problem of anti-Semitism exists and is growing dangerously. On Sunday, January 3, a protest march against the growing anti-Semitism will be held in New York. Many accuse Trump as if he is to blame for the growing  anti-Semitism.

However, we need to understand that no one here can help. We know that America is a very strict country, and if some legislation is passed, it will be enforced the next day. The law is guarded by courts, prisons, and the police. However, in the case of anti-Semitism, there is nothing they can do. We will see that all the actions of the government and the attempts to extinguish anti-Semitism will have no effect. After all, we are dealing here with the law of nature.

In the coming days and weeks, we will witness the futile attempts of the American government to fix this problem. This will seem to be the weakness of Trump and the left will certainly take advantage of it by accusing him of being unable to protect the Jews. However, no measures will work. You can set up millions of police patrols and pass new laws, but it will not help.

The upper force must force the people of Israel to unite, and it will do so. It will not retreat even if only a small handful of people will remain from Israel and the rest are killed. However, the small group that remains will achieve connection and will be the beginning of a new humanity. All the nations will then connect around it and come to correction.

We will see that no government in the United States, neither right nor left, will be able to extinguish anti-Semitism. It is a force from above.3

In light of the growing anti-Semitism in America, can we be sure that moving to Israel guarantees a quiet life and protection from anti-Semites? Yes, but for a very short time. But if we do not convince the Jews around the world and in Israel to start connecting, the next stage will be tough, unprecedented sanctions against the state of Israel by all countries, including the United States.

We will feel as if we were under siege in Israel. This, too, will last for a short time, and then, if this also does not help convince the Jews of Israel to connect, as Baal HaSulam writes, we will be thrown out of this land and scattered again.4

Working for Idols and Working for Unity

I am not trying to assess how my words will be accepted by every part of society. A lifetime will not be enough to study this. I only need to learn how to come to correction and how to awaken the whole world to it to the best of my ability. That is all. I do not analyze their condition, religion, faith, science, or culture. Everything is much simpler. The whole world is divided into two parts: working for idols and working for connection. The upper force is unity, connection.

To achieve connection, there is a simple method: we awaken the force of unity by connecting with each other above our egoism, in spite of it. To the extent of this connection, between us we reveal the force of connection to the Creator, the revelation of the upper force.

There are two forces in nature: positive and negative. The positive force of connection is concealed, and the opposite, negative force of egoism is revealed. If we try to connect in the ten above the force of rejection, the force of our egoism, then the positive force awakens and helps us. This force is concealed in nature, but we discover it by our efforts and thus move toward connection.

Then, within our connection, we will clearly reveal the upper force, which is called the revelation of the Creator to the created beings.

This is our program. There are thousands of different spiritual methods, beliefs, and opinions in the world. We do not dig into them because it does not matter. After all, there are only two forces in the world that need to be brought to balance. This is the balance we create in the group through our connection.

The method of Kabbalah is very practical and concrete, and we can implement it.

Therefore, there is no point in trying to understand other philosophies because they are not based on the upper force. They say that a person should try to change himself as if he already has positive qualities. Kabbalah states that initially there is nothing positive in a person, only negative—one’s egoism. The evil inclination controls a person from one’s birth: “Man is born a wild ass,” and we must try to connect above egoism.5

The Jewish Choice: Unity Or Anti-Semitism—What We Should Learn From History

Dr Michael LaitmanWe have all studied history in school and have heard about what happened in the past. But now we are learning about the inner mechanism: why did things happen, who put history in motion and for what reasons, and what we can do to go along with history and with the system of nature—the Creator. Because disasters happen due to our inadequate involvement. This is what history teaches us.

It is written that “the deeds of the fathers will become a sign for the sons,” so today we must scrutinize why we behaved incorrectly and how we could have changed history if we had acted differently. We can change our fate to benefit ourselves, the world, and the upper force—this is the purpose of our studying.

This is not just a history lesson we used to have at school but a different way of understanding why the governance comes down in such a way and how to respond to it correctly. If we would be able to generate the right response today, which nature is obliging us to do, we would be able to achieve the most positive results.

The whole process is predetermined from the beginning to the end and there is only one line meant to bring the whole egoistic desire, the whole corporeal nature, to the spiritual, perfect, corrected degree. This makes everything that is happening clear. If we reflect on historical occurrences along this path, on what took place, we will see that in each case, our incorrect response has led to catastrophic consequences for us.

The supreme force of nature is spinning the flywheel of history and as far as nature is concerned, we are all equal and must reach the same goal whether we want to or not.

The Jewish Choice: Unity Or Anti-Semitism—Understanding Historical Causes And Effects

laitman_294.1Throughout history the same forces act, resulting in same reactions. The new book: The Jewish Choice: Unity or Anti-Semitism shows that there are always causes and effects leading to the same turn of events.

This book must change our approach and teach us to see all the occurrences happening in this world in the light of Kabbalistic interpretation. The problem is that people do not understand what is happening to them. We study texts written 2,000 years ago without any knowledge of what has been happening during those 2,000 years and we draw incorrect conclusions.

The book The Jewish Choice: Unity or Anti-Semitism does not just recount the history of anti-Semitism. It, however, provides us with a foundation, reveals the cause of what is happening, and explains how we can change this process in its core.

The Jewish people are not the only ones who should receive this education and open their eyes to what is happening, the whole world needs to as well. The current events are caused by the same forces within the people of Israel and the whole of humanity within the common integral system. There is a single source pulling us toward the end of correction. If we are ready to move toward it, then we advance by means of “accelerated time,” by the light, and if not, then we advance by “in due time,” by the path of suffering.

The heroes that emerge on this path or the events that unfold are unimportant; what is important is that we can change the nature of this process, shifting it from the path of suffering to the path of light, which is good both in the eyes of the Creator and in the eyes of the person.

We exist within nature, which is a set of laws descending from a single source. This source consists of only one law, which we must learn thoroughly. We will then have no more issues with it just like with electricity or math: knowing the underlying law, one can derive thousands of applications from it.

All we have to do is learn the fundamental principles:
1. The world is an egoistic desire.
2. There was a group that rose above egoism and therefore received the name Israel (Yashar-Kel, straight to the Creator) because it wished to achieve the force of bestowal, the upper force.

This is the determining factor of the entire history of the people of Israel.

Anti-Semitism arises in other nations because they have never possessed the force of bestowal. But the people of Israel who once achieved the power of bestowal later fell from this level, and therefore they hate bestowal even more than the nations of the world. This determines the current state.

However, there is a small group, Bnei Baruch, that is trying to explain all of this to humanity. History is unfolding rapidly day after day. We must keep up with this process in order to understand what is happening to us in this scenario, the acting forces and the consequences they are causing, and we must deliver this message to the rest of humanity.

Our common salvation depends on it because the world is now in a very dangerous state: both the people of Israel and the nations of the world. Baal HaSulam warned us about the possibility of the third world war, and it was no exaggeration. We must realize that we have the opportunity to avoid a true catastrophe.

The Jewish Choice: Unity Or Anti-Semitism—Awaken Mercy In The World

laitman_592.01If we unite and reveal Hassadim (mercy) between us, then nothing bad will happen. Indeed, when the upper light is revealed without the cover of Hassadim, it is very painful: like a sharp knife or the fire of hell. However, if we precede this revelation with the cover of Hassadim, the light reveals itself as a waterfall of goodness.

Through unity, we awaken mercy in the world, Hassadim, and then the light that comes to push forward the people of Israel and all of humanity toward correction enters the Hassadim, prepared by us from below. Hassadim comes from below, and from above comes the light of Hochma. It depends only on us, on our connection.

By uniting, we attract the light that reforms, called Hassadim. This Hassadim spreads among us, and we find ourselves in a cloud of mercy. Then, the upper light of Hochma, which comes in order to advance us, does not enter us like a knife, but it is covered in Hassadim and reveals the Creator to us according to the equivalence of form between our bestowal (Hassadim) and the light of Hochma from His side.

The Jewish Choice: Unity Or Anti-Semitism—We All Need To Give An Example Of Connection

laitman_962.8No one has any special protection from above; there is only one privilege: the opportunity to engage in the correction process yourself. Some might be for it and others against because the modern generation is obliged to clarify this issue. We must move forward with understanding, consciously, by our own consent. And consent always comes from disagreement, like the revelation of light from the darkness.

One thing is clear, if we do not go along with the development of the generation happening now, we will not be able to realize our spiritual development, neither personal nor general. Even such an exceptional person as Baal HaSulam was honored with spiritual attainment because the generation was ready for it and needed a certain process that he had to direct.

And now, such a duty is assigned to our Bnei Baruch group. Nowadays it is no longer possible to advance at the expense of one person as it was before with Moses. Now we need a group and even a world group—everyone should give an example of how to move toward correction. Only with such a power of our connection will we be able to advance.

No one will be able to realize his correction and achieve the desired goal by himself. You can forget about it. But if we act together as Rabash and Baal HaSulam advise, then all paths open before us.

Therefore, we must study our condition in order to see how progress from one day to the next, one moment in the left line, then in the right. We are always thrown from left to right, from right to left, and we ourselves must build our progress in the middle line.

The ship of humanity will roll to the left, then to the right. And if with the help of our efforts we can turn the steering wheel, this huge ship will go in the right direction. This is our work—we need to see this, feel our responsibility, and lead the process of correction.

To steer the wheel means to strive for the middle line so that all crimes on the left side are covered by love on the right side. The middle line is then lined up in the middle. We do not destroy the left line, do not erase those who are against, but we watch how this criticism awakens those who are in favor, helping to make the right evaluations. And then we are in the middle line, we turn the wheel correctly, and it should always be focused on the central point: the unity of Israel, the Torah and the Creator as one whole.

Israel is us, striving for the Creator, the Torah is the whole upper light that guides us and all of humanity around us, and the Creator is the force that is revealed in the center of the group, in the center of our efforts.

Baal HaSulam knew what would happen in Germany and tried to save the Jews. But the Jews themselves did not let him do this and they all died. He could not change anything: a certain time is given for clarification and free choice in order to make a decision. But when the decision is made, the power is transferred to the executioner to carry out the correction through suffering.

The Jewish Choice: Unity Or Anti-Semitism—The Same Babylon Again

Dr Michael LaitmanIt all depends on how much the spiritual message is more important for a person than corporeal feelings. I, as Israel, must overcome my egoism and prefer coming closer to the Creator to all corporeal problems. For other nations, this happens differently. Everyone, according to the root of one’s soul, has an obligation to rise above corporeal disturbances, which are not disturbances but conditions for the development of the soul, and to aim toward connection despite the fact that we hate each other. Believe me, the anti-Semitic hatred of the Jew is much less than the hatred of the disciples of Rabbi Shimon to each other. We have yet to discover real hatred.

All this is included in the conditions: you want to rise spiritually and the Creator and the meaning of life are more important to you than your claims against others, then you will rise. If not, you will remain here, in your animalistic existence.

All nations, all of Babylon, must rise above their egoism and perform the work of correction. This is the condition today. Here we are acting as Abraham, who said: “Whoever is with the Creator—is with me!” This is that same Babylon and the same challenges that were in the time of Abraham, only in the modern form.

Imagine that you are living in Babylon and suddenly there is a group of Abraham, claiming that you need to love others as yourself. You hate them so much that you are ready to kick them out of Babylon.

However they, feeling this hatred, understand that it is necessary to leave Babylon. What would you do then? Are you ready to join them and make your way through Iraq and Syria to the land of Israel, of course not in corporeal terms, but as a spiritual ascent? The choice is yours.

Dr Michael LaitmanIt is scary to think about what might happen to the world if we do not succeed in disseminating the method of connection. A new world war awaits the world, after which it would take humanity several more centuries to recover from and begin to gather to implement the correction. Yet, the final correction must manifest here in this world in the corporeal framework in which we live now.

This world does not exist but the spiritual form, which now appears before our eyes as the corporeal world, must be exactly like this so that the process of correction will begin and end in it. Once we complete the correction at the level of this world together with the spiritual world, this world will rise to a spiritual degree.

We can avoid third and fourth world wars while this is still in our hands. However, the allotted time is already coming to an end so we need to hurry up and realize our mission.

Dr Michael LaitmanThe solution is not in the greater emancipation of the Jews, and not in greater religiosity, but in the spiritual ascent of a person. The lessons of history teach one thing: no matter what we do within the framework of this world, the outcome will always be disastrous, and we will be hit with blows right up to destruction. Salvation is only in rising above the level of this world.

No matter where we turn at the level of this world: to liberalism, religions, emancipation—nothing will help. We cannot stay in the corporeal level; we are not allowed to get stuck in it. We can only go up from this platform.

People have not been told or taught about this; therefore, they do not want it and cannot do it, a situation similar to labor pains. The upper providence does not take a person’s corporeal life into account, but only the development of desire. The desires must develop until they reach our time, where, at last, a group will appear that will begin to implement the solution.

Inside the general vessel of the soulReshimot  are accumulating from all the sufferings endured by millions of people who died during the Holocaust, the Inquisition, and Stalinist repressions. All this is in order for the desire to enjoy to accumulate great pain from the fact that it is in egoism and to let the spiritual genes (Reshimot) of bestowal start working.

From the viewpoint of human logic, there is no justification for this. After all, who arranges all these disasters? The Creator! You can take Him to court.

The Jewish Choice: Unity Or Anti-Semitism—Special Mission Of The Ten Lost Tribes

Dr Michael LaitmanThe ten tribes of Israel were lost so that later we could realize our purpose with regard to the world. The people of Israel do not exist for their own sake, but to pass on the method of connection and revelation of the Creator to all the nations. All the nations within the common soul of Adam HaRishon, belonging to the body of the spiritual Partzuf, have no way to contact the Creator, except through the Rosh (head) of the Partzuf, that is, the people of Israel, through the two and a half remaining tribes.

The ten tribes disappeared, dissolving into the nations of the world in order to create the connection between the head and the body of the soul. Later, they will be revealed as a transitional link between the head (the people of Israel) and the body (the nations of the world).

Over the past millennia, they have integrated with the body, with all of humanity, but according to their Reshimot, roots, and spiritual genes, they belong to the head. We need a layer in the general Partzuf that includes both the qualities of the head and the qualities of the body.

The Jewish Choice: Unity Or Anti-Semitism—Anti-Semitism Above Nature

Dr Michael LaitmanThroughout the period of the last exile, the people of Israel had no awareness of their spiritual mission. We do not see such signs in the statements of Jewish philosophers and thinkers. The wisdom of Kabbalah was greatly concealed. It was a preparatory period: now with more inner or surrounding light, and afterward less, and accordingly, humanity was drawn to one direction, and afterward to the other.

It was a time when we had to find out our attitude to religions, check at what price we were willing to sell ordinary, corporeal Judaism and leave our faith. The human soul consists of four levels: inanimate, vegetative, animate, and human; all these levels also need to be scrutinized.

Therefore, the matter did not reach the wisdom of Kabbalah and our duty to humanity,  the revelation that we have a higher mission than the simple traditional fulfillment of the commandments.

This was a period of scrutiny that continues today. Until recently, people in America thought that the modern emancipation and assimilation of Jews would help them dissolve into American society. It really seemed that it was possible to do this: there was almost no pressure or outright anti-Semitism. If there was some rejection, it was very intelligent and hidden.

Many Jews in America, as they once did in Germany, thought that anti-Semitism could be eliminated by even greater assimilation in American society because the problem is caused by the fact that the Jews are not sufficiently dissolved in Americans. It turns out that 3,500 years ago in the time of Abraham, the nation of Israel emerged from all the nations, from Ancient Babylon, and today, being in modern Babylon, we want to return and assimilate among the nations. This will be the end of us.

However, we fail to understand that the choice is now becoming more spiritual. After all, there are no big problems with corporeal differences: customs, the philosophy of Judaism, and education. In the modern world, everything is mixed up.

The question arises: Why is modern anti-Semitism rising and increasing everywhere, all over the world? This does not apply to culture, education, or statehood; it is a completely illogical, irrational, universal phenomenon that is above nature.
