Kabbalah And The Consumer Economy, Part 2

547.05The Only Form of Egoism

Question: Is it possible to describe the egoism that we must correct? After all, it has many forms.

Answer: Egoism has one very simple form: I want only good things and only for myself.

Question: And why is this bad?

Answer: It is bad because it means I am in conflict with wanting good for others. If before we used to build our lives in some way together with others, today we begin to build it only in contradiction with others.

We have entered into such conflicts, such contradictions, that we cannot create anything between us that would unite us. Starting from contradictions of a person with himself, with his family, with his children, relatives, parents, colleagues at work, and ending in relations between nations and the entire world.

A person begins to feel that he is against everyone, alone, and does not need anyone. If it were possible to replace everyone else or even just a couple dozen of people with robots so that they would serve him and he would feel good, he would immediately agree to this. This is our inherent nature.

Will Smart Things Make Us Smarter?

273.02Question: As a consequence of the pandemic, now there is a growing crisis in the production of microprocessors, microchips that are literally in everything, from cars to phones. On one hand all things are becoming smart; on the other hand crises in their production is growing.

Therefore the production of cars, phones, etc. is being reduced. For those who produce microprocessors, the queues are scheduled for several years ahead. This means store shelves will begin to empty after some time; a global shortage of smart equipment is coming.

What is the future of smart technologies for humanity in terms of consumption?

Answer: I don’t see anything wrong with that. Of course, I’m not in favor of collecting all the books and burning them. But if we won’t be chasing microchips in every refrigerator and in every iron, I don’t think we will suffer from it.

On the contrary, we will be able to devote more time to our ordinary everyday life; we will learn to receive small joys from the world, from family, from children. I believe that all this technology is a huge failure of humanity in trying to occupy itself with such toys.

Question: It is excessive consumption. On the other hand, this technique, as if from the outside, demonstrates to a person the external connection of things. And if this does not develop, will the connection shift into some internal things?

Answer: Of course. Why wouldn’t we go back to somewhere in the last century in a village, with the right books, maybe even with the right computer, but without the Internet, without everything that clogs our brains and takes up time?

Why can’t we normally, calmly surround ourselves with smart things that will make us smarter, and not just turn us into idiots using the achievements of others who are also worthless?

I believe that the time has long come to make a reassessment of values.

Any development always comes to something. So I think this will too. The only problem is that in our time, too many people, based on purely mercantile interests, are interested in everything continuing the way it is. Therefore there is not much hope that the change will happen peacefully. But on the other hand I’m sure this will end soon.

Let The Light Connect Us

942Question: How can we boost our spiritual work to increase positive outcomes?

Answer: We have no other option but to unite even more, up to the point that the light will connect all internal distances, which we want to cancel between us. It will come and do it, and we must ask: “Let me be absolutely internally united with my friends.”

In this case, if distances between us close, we form one common body, one common desire, in which the Creator is revealed. And this is achievable because it is not us doing it. We must only pray that the light unite us in our common aspirations for this state.

So, let us convince, support, and inspire each other that this is possible.

This is the transition from one world to another. Being in our world, we naturally cannot imagine how to connect everything into one single whole. This is unattainable in the corporeal world.

But when we ask from our world, the light takes into account our states and raises us to the next level where the property of bestowal, love, and connection between the broken parts of one soul (which is us) really exists. We can do this.

Let’s try together. We still have time to realize these opportunities and implement them. And we will do it!

How Can We Influence The Upper World?

260.01Question: Are causal relationships in the spiritual world the manifestation of hierarchical governance in our world?

Answer: Are you kidding? Our world rules the spiritual world?

Comment: The causal relationships in the spiritual world are reflected here as hierarchical management.

My Response: That is right, but what does our world have to do with it?

You can manage the spiritual world only to the extent that you can influence it. To do that I need to have a spiritual force, the force of bestowal, the force of love, the force of connection with others, a positive force. Our world is negative, it is opposite from the spiritual world, it is egoistic.

If you want to influence the upper world, go ahead. You can do it to the extent that you begin to bestow, to infuse positive energy, the attribute of love and bestowal from yourself unto others.

By doing so you will begin to truly influence the upper world from the bottom up. The hierarchy will be the opposite. It is possible. But this is the only way.

Resemblance To The Creator

938.05Question: What is the meaning of the connection between cause and effect? Is it the same as the struggle with a disease but not the correction of the disease itself?

Answer: No. We correct the disease itself. When we correct our ego, we turn it into a totally different system, a system of bestowal instead of a system of receiving.

Each one restricts their ego, and then there is a Masach (screen) and the reflecting light, which means that one doesn’t want to receive all the good that one can seemingly receive for oneself. A person receives it only in order to sustain oneself and gives everything else to others.

This state is called bestowal. To the extent that we can connect in one common general system, we will feel the attribute of bestowal inside it, which flows between us and is revealed inside us as the Creator.

By resembling the upper force through the mutual relations between us, we enable it to be revealed somehow in others. It does not exist externally to us, but if we want to feel it, there is no other way but to connect between us through attributes, desires, and actions of bestowal unto each other. Moreover, it is not the same bestowal that we picture now.

It is a very complicated action in which you ascend above yourself, against yourself. By doing so you resemble the Creator to some degree.

Of course in the Creator there are no such efforts of Tzimtzum, tension, and all that since He is the force itself. But in order to feel Him inside you, you make efforts, which means that you keep the condition of resemblance to the Creator and then He is revealed in you this way. This is the reason that a person is called “Adam,” which stems from the Hebrew root “to resemble the Creator.”

He exists by Himself and we don’t know how, but He is revealed inside us as the force of bestowal, love, connection, and mutual actions between us. This is what the wisdom of Kabbalah is all about. We resemble the Creator and He is revealed in us. This is the condition of equivalence of form that is the means for the revelation of the Creator to a person.

Inner Turmoil

565.02Prophets, Joshua, 24:6:And I brought your fathers out of Egypt, and you came to the sea; and the Egyptians pursued your fathers with chariots and horsemen to the Red Sea.

The children of Israel were able to rise above their egoism, to exit Egypt, where Pharaoh reigned, into a state where the force of the ego disappears, but there is still no quality of bestowal. It appears only after receiving the Torah on Mount Sinai.

However, they already feel that they are under the rule of Pharaoh and have reached the state when they are ready to cross the border between egoistic desires, which are called Egypt (In Hebrew Mitzraim—concentration of evil), and all other qualities.

Question: Why do these desires chase after them?

Answer: Everything happens within a person. First, he starts asking himself: “Why am I exiting Egypt? How will I live?” Desires need to be fulfilled. What to fill them with?

Second, Pharaoh also lives at the expense of the Israelites who are running away from him because they give him a connection with the upper force. He cannot exist without them, and they, in general, cannot exist without him either. Here we get a temporary space in which they understand how dependent they are on each other.

“No Need For Price Hikes” (Linkedin)

My new article on Linkedin “No Need for Price Hikes”

Lately, headlines have been warning that prices are about to go up. The price of many commodities has already started rising and pundits alert that this is only the beginning. “Unilever warns of more price hikes as inflation worsens,” writes Reuters. “As Inflation Persists, Everything Is Getting More Expensive,” echoes The New York Times. “Fed to begin slowing economic aid as inflation worries rise,” warns the Los Angeles Times. Everyone has become gloom and doom prophets, but no one is asking why there should be inflation in the first place.

Commentators on all news outlets explain that shortage of computer chips, jams in supply chains, rising oil prices, and a spike in consumer demand following the termination of the closures are all contributing to the price hikes. I think we should not be so credulous; behind all those “crises” are people poised to make billions over billions at our expense.

They will not starve us; starving people doesn’t create revenue for tycoons. To keep padding their bank accounts, magnets will give us crumbs here and there to keep us going. They won’t deny us food or electricity, or other staples, as this would send people to the streets, which is bad for business. What they will do is stretch the wire thin until it almost snaps, and squeeze from us as much as they can without crossing over to riots and mayhem.

We might think that if someone else were in charge, things would be better. We might elect a new president, force the government to “regulate” the rich or tax them, but it is all for nothing. In order to get to the top, you have to be like the people at the top, but worse, or they will crush you. As a result, anyone who gets to the top is already willing to perpetuate the system.

Moreover, we the people have been numbed for so many years that we can no longer imagine a different life than what we have. We have been made to think that life is a struggle for survival.

All the while, the chiefs are running a completely different life than ours, one we cannot even imagine. In their parallel universe, which governs ours, money doesn’t buy gadgets or vacations, but power, control, and much more money.

But there is one thing that money cannot buy, and it is not love. Money can’t buy meaning!

When we begin to ponder the meaning of the rat race, the reason for the madness we call “civilization,” and indeed, the meaning of life itself, we will transcend all physical boundaries. For now, the inequality and injustice that are spreading through society are only aggravating our misery. Eventually, they will force us to ask what it is all for. When this happens, we will begin to learn why we are here and how we can rise above the physical shells that host our tormented souls.

We will not begin this process of self-education until we feel that we have suffered enough. It is therefore my hope that we will decide to terminate this senseless ego-game and start rising above the power struggles as soon as possible.

Once we embark on the new journey, we will discover that we have been deluding ourselves the whole time thinking that we can rise above others. We will discover that we are all connected, so every time we hurt someone, we hurt ourselves, as well, in ways we could not notice. This is why in our previous mode of work, we could never be happy. We will realize that we can be happy only when everyone is happy, just as no part of the body can feel good unless the whole body feels good.

Our biggest enemy is ignorance. Our obliviousness to our interconnectedness makes us act in the selfish ways we do, so our first and most important task is to grasp that pain anywhere is pain everywhere.

Only if we understand this, we will act in a considerate manner, and we will suddenly discover that there is no need for any price hikes, there is no shortage of anything, but rather abundance of everything that we might need to give us a good, secure, and happy life.

“Shop Till You Drop? I Pass” (Linkedin)

My new article on Linkedin “Shop Till You Drop? I Pass”

Come November, the shopping frenzy starts. Everyone is trying to grab the best deal before everyone else, get the coolest bargain and tell everyone about it. Now that most shopping is done online, it has become a global mania and everyone wants a piece of the pie, even if that piece comes several weeks after you ordered it. I wish it made people happy, but it doesn’t. At best, it only covers the void for a few hours.

I understand the temptation. It’s not easy to resist buying when everyone is talking about what they bought and advertisers are inundating you with commercials talking about price cuts for this or that occasion. I, too, get in on this sometimes. My personal weakness is kitchenware. I buy all kinds of appliances for cooking, heating, cutting and refrigerating food, even though I do not actually like cooking.

Most of us are like that. For the most part, we buy products that we do not really need, and at a price that is not exactly a bargain. Our only consolation is that we have not lost face and we have not drifted from the herd.

There is nothing behind all of this but ego. It’s a struggle between sellers and buyers. They tell you, “It’s a steal! It’s usually $100 and I am practically giving it away for $20!” So you buy and you are happy because you think you have tricked everyone and beaten the system. True, you have five boxes of new shoes that you’ll never open because next year, you’ll buy five more boxes and by then you will have worn maybe two, but for now you feel smarter than everyone else and you’re content.

This excessive shopping is not only foolish, it is a crime against the planet. This is why we produce twice as much as we need and throw the excess in the trash. While our petty egos fill the oceans with plastic, we delude ourselves into thinking we have outsmarted others, but the joke is always on us.

At the very least, we should know where this is coming from. The world today is cold and heartless. We feel alone and insecure, so we buy gadgets and fleeting pleasures to make up for it. If we had friends and family we cared about, and who cared about us, we would rather spend our time with them and wouldn’t click a single link for an online shop that has nothing of meaning to offer.

Now, thanks to our greed, we have come to a state where prices are rising, ships are stuck at sea because they cannot dock and unload their goods, and gasoline and transportation prices are skyrocketing. In addition, the shortage in computer chips has brought production lines of cars and other products around the world to a standstill. It seems we have shopped till we dropped.

Hopefully now we will begin to look for joy in the people around us, in bonding with our family and friends, and in building solidarity in our communities. It is time to move beyond skin-deep communication and begin to find meaning and joy in heart-to-heart connections.
