Work off the Advance

600.04Question: On one hand, it is said that sometimes a person is rewarded with finding mercy through prayer, through Sgula (a miraculous remedy), because it can replace the effort.

On the other hand, it is said that although a person is worthy of finding mercy through prayer, nevertheless, then he must pay a measure of effort. What does it mean?

Answer: It means that the person receives an advance. He has not yet earned spirituality, but he has already received some portion, and therefore, he must continue to make efforts to earn the advance.
