When a Kabbalist speaks, he creates worlds, since speech is the outer expression of our inner attainment. This explains why our level as human beings is called the “speaking” level. As correction happens at this level of desire we begin to attain properties of the Creator. This kind of attainment cannot happen at the “inanimate,” “vegetative” and “animate” levels of desire in the spiritual world.

Only after we attain the ability to “speak” can a soul connect and bond with the Creator. That’s why when a Kabbalist speaks he builds the worlds; he constructs links between all desires, properties and intentions. My 613 desires tie me to 613 Correcting Lights that fill my corrected vessels. This is how I sense unity with the Creator.

All this happens at the final “speaking” level where we gain the ability to correct ourselves. Only at this stage can the creation feel opposite to the Creator and only at this level can the creation attain similar properties to the Creator. This level is called “Adam” (from the word “adome” meaning similar).

A question I received: How can I imagine myself in bestowal?

My Answer: Only with the help of the environment. There is no other way. We’ve been given a truly miraculous instrument from Above. In this world, on every spiritual degree, and in each state, we have “us versus the environment.” That’s why even before the appearance of this world and the inclusion of humans, there was a breaking, a division of the souls and the emergence of individual bodies.

We are unable to picture an image of the Upper One ourselves, since we don’t have anything within us that is similar to Him. In the same dimension where we exist right now, in our world, there’s “us” and the “environment.”  On the basis of the relationships between each of us and the environment, we can then build the relationship between ourselves and the Upper One. The principle of assembling among us the model of connecting with the Creator, is called “from love for the created beings” to “love for the Creator.”

By overcoming the egoism within us, by putting the importance of attaining the quality of bestowal above our quality of reception, and by working on these relationships within the group (the connection between the points in the heart of our friends), we create the quality of bestowal within us. To the measure of the desire that the Upper One grants us, we sense the Creator by experiencing the attribute of bestowal within ourselves.

Here we can understand the need for the breaking of the universal soul. If it were not for this breaking into individual souls, none of us would be able to create the desire to attain the quality of bestowal on our level, nor to bring upon us the effect of the Light of Correction.

By verifying everything relative to the environment (points in the heart), it becomes clear to us how we relate to the Creator, to the Upper Degree. We cannot sense it, but we can prepare ourselves for its attainment.

We must strive to form such strong connections between members of the Kabbalah group that the connections can be called the “Creator.” The Creator is a measurement of the connection between us when we perceive others as we perceive ourselves. We must constantly ask ourselves if we are approaching this type of connection or not, and if we are getting closer to the Creator.

We give birth to the Creator by connecting with each other, because what we call the Creator is born of our relationships, tensions, bonds, and aspirations towards each other. Imagine that we are drawn so close to each other that we are pulled into a circle inside of which something called “Bore” (come and see) is revealed.  This means come inside and see the Creator.

What we create is in fact, a common Kli with ten Sefirot of bestowal. The common Kli is revealed and is filled if we make it our mission to find the right connections with each other. Instead of fantasizing about ourselves and the Creator, we must know that His revelation is our goal.

Two questions I received about fear:

Question: I read that there are three types of fear, but that only one is real – the fear of the Creator. So if I am faced with a situation that scares me, like when I fly and the plane is shaking, this is the wrong type of fear because egoistically, I am afraid to die. I then try to turn this great but wrong fear into a fear for the Creator. I need to feel fear of possibly losing my contact with Him. It is almost impossible, but I try as hard as I can. Am I wasting my time?

My Answer: The only thing you should do is understand that everything comes from Him!

Question: Everywhere I go, I’m filled with fear. I’m worried what people may think about me.  Why do I care and how can I get over it?

My Answer: Your egoism makes you worry about what others think about you. Start thinking about the spiritual world and its qualities. You will then free yourself from this imaginary world and come to realize that the Creator pushes you towards Him with this fear.

A question I received: You said in a recent lesson that we must enjoy this life. That is confusing, because as we grow in Kabbalah we find a certain distaste for pleasures. How then do we balance this within our work? Are we supposed to use every encounter in our life to do dissemination and use that as the source of our pleasure? I used to love to build furniture and rebuild motorcycles, but now it seems all I do is study and work and do what dissemination I can. Is this the correct way of going about things?

My Answer: Most probably, it is. However, you should not force yourself to do anything, but just do what comes naturally. The most important thing is your aspiration to the Creator, and all the rest will settle down without coercion and according to how it has to be.

Our work is to rise above assessment by the principle of “sweet versus bitter” to assessment by the principle of “truth versus false.” After all, the Creator is called Truth.

The word “truth” (Emet) consists of the letters: Alef-Mem-Tav. Alef and Tav are the first and last letters of the alphabet, symbolizing desires on two different ends of the spectrum. Mem, which is in the middle, is the quality of Bina, which we can use to connect these two ends and reach correction, the Truth.

The only way to find out what is true and what is false is within a group of Kabbalists, an environment. Inside oneself, an individual doesn’t have any ability to do this, since he possesses only one parameter – the ego. In order to perform a measurement, one absolutely needs another parameter, which is outside of him.

After studying for a long time and performing many clarifications in the group, a beginner Kabbalist begins to feel that he exists in a general, global system of desires, among other “points in the heart.” In relation to this particular environment, he has an opportunity to acquire new sensuous concepts: drawing closer to or further away from it, a feeling of its global system, his inclusion in it, the need for its support, and a realization that it is the place where he will reveal the Upper World and the Creator.

However, in the meantime, the interaction of two forces – myself and the environment, is formed inside me. The environment will increase in weight in order to counteract my “I” – the ego. A new system of governance will arise, which will be outside of me, and which I will begin to consider and see as the salvation, the lever that can pull me out of my state – this world.

I measure “myself versus the environment,” and as a result of my measurements, I acquire quantitative and qualitative degrees of measuring spiritual relationships and forces. I thus build a linear scale: I am on one end, and the group is on the other. Using this scale, I can already examine, measure, and depict the Upper World.

From the relationship of “myself and the group,” a spiritual cell forms in me, and I can measure all of reality above me through that cell. That is how I build a soul inside myself.

A question I received: In the posting, “Use Each Instant Of Your Life To Move Aheadת” you wrote that a person must demand an award from the Creator for each of his deeds in order to accelerate revelation of the Upper World. But how can I develop this demand if I don’t have it?

My Answer: No one initially has the desire for the Upper World because the Upper World is opposite to us and therefore we cannot feel it. A desire develops only after we “taste” something and then lose that sensation. We then feel the need to run after it. Intensity of this aspiration for the desirable is called a desire (passion).

In Kabbalah this law of development of desire is formulated as “The expansion and disappearance of Light.” This is what creates a desire for it.

So the most important question is: How do we draw the influence of the Light upon us? The answer is: Through the environment – the teacher, the books, and the group.

All of our actions in this world are carried out because they are dictated from Above, except those in which we are free. Our freedom of will consists only of growing higher and correcting the soul in similarity to the Creator. Everything else in and around us is dictated from Above by the laws of the Upper World.

If our will doesn’t exist in anything corporeal and everything is controlled from Above, then there is no punishment and no reward for any actions in life! After all, none of it was done by us; it was done through us from Above.

Therefore, it is written that we are all like animals until we become similar to the Creator. To the extent that we are similar to Him, we are called Adam, “similar” (Dommeh in Hebrew). Similarity to the Creator begins from a point of desire, an aspiration to Him, which is called “the point in the heart.” If this point has been revealed, a person will undoubtedly come to Kabbalah since this point will lead him to it.

The point in the heart is like a drop of semen from which we have developed. However, the only way we can develop the spiritual body, the soul, is through our own effort. This is the only action we can perform using our freedom of will (see Baal HaSulam’s article, “The Freedom”).

Push the whole world onto the back burner and begin to develop the point in the heart, thus elevating yourself into the Upper System. Be willing to reject everything just to stay there. This is the only choice and action that can be made. The reward is the life of the soul!

Two questions I received about the growth of egoism:

Question: I’ve been studying Kabbalah for almost two years now, and there is something bothering me. It seems that the more I learn about my own nature, the more I’m disgusted by it. I feel as if I’m getting even more bothered than I already was. I simply can’t focus on the goal and the beauty of it, while I’m feeling so disgusted by my own nature, and that of everyone around me. What should I do?

My Answer: You have to be glad that egoism is being revealed within you. It’s the Upper Light that reveals it, and you must appeal to the Creator without getting deeper into the egoism. You must rise above it and be thankful for it as it will continue to grow as the soul uses it to develop.

Question: Please give us your advice on how can we find the strength to make the efforts toward connection when our egos are so strong that we feel like we can only surrender to Him and not make those efforts that we must make?

Sometimes we feel like “We know we must do this, but we don’t want to at all and we have no strength to do it.” These are frustrating moments, as our egos seem like the strongest power that exists!

My Answer: This is because you don’t invoke the power of the Creator! The Creator is the one that has to stand against Pharaoh while we have to be like Moshe, standing in the middle letting them fight!

A question I received: Why is Kabbalah important?

My Answer: Everybody asks this question. There are many things in our lives. Some are more important, other things are less important. Every second, different things become important to us, things like sleeping, playing, eating, or running around. How do we find the most important thing in life?

The main thing in life is to feel something unconditional, infinite and almighty, seeing through all the worlds without boundaries between life and death, and fulfilling all of our desires, even those with which we are not yet familiar, such as becoming like the Creator.

There is nothing higher than that. This is the very peak where all things lead. So how do we reach it? How do we attain absolute success here and now? We do it through a method called “the wisdom of Kabbalah.”

This is why it is important. It is because we value all things according to how they benefit us. If Kabbalah can help us attain everything, this makes it more important than anything else.
