How Can We Reveal the Upper Mind?

942Question: What is the active mind that we reveal in our connection?

Answer: In our connection, we reveal what is above us and governs us. All these discerned qualities and revelations are what we call “the Creator” (Boreh).

Question: What should happen during a ten’s gathering so that, above our own qualities, we can reveal this governing force, this mind? How should we properly strive for it? What needs to be done?

Answer: To achieve this, you need to clarify among yourselves how to realize what is written in the Torah.

The Only Force in The World

515.02Why is it so important for us to turn to the Creator? Because we have nothing besides a relationship with the only upper force in the world, which includes everything and controls everything.

Moreover, this is not an unfounded statement but something we must reveal explicitly and clearly. We reveal this from our conviction that “There is none else besides Him.” That is, we attain Him both from His presence and the fact that it is the only force, both from His positive as well as negative components.

If this is the only force that created us and gave us unique properties not only to exist, but also to attain the Creator, then, of course, it is very important for us to know what these properties are, how to develop and realize them, to truly understand this force, attain, value, draw near it and, possibly, do some more actions on yourself: for your sake or His it doesn’t matter.

It turns out there is no way to distance yourself from it, to isolate yourself from it, on the one hand. On the other hand, there is no way not to affect it. We are created in such a way that we act on it anyway, we are in it. It turns out the most critical question is not just how this force treats us and what it wants from us, but how we influence it in general.

This topic is the most important in our lives because we and this force are the only ones that coexist: we are in it, and it determines our lives in everything.

How Can We Rise Above Animalistic Desires?

631.3Question: The more we progress, the more our animalistic desires grow. How can a group or a “ten” help a friend rise above these desires to draw closer to the Creator? In what form is this help expressed?

Answer: In every possible way. How can a “ten” assist any friend in any state whatsoever? First and foremost, through example.

Beyond example, there is mutual support and unconditional assistance. But generally speaking, it is through example. Examples can be both positive and negative.

I can demonstrate my dedication and aspiration toward the Creator by providing a positive example to my friend. Conversely, I can unintentionally hint at a negative example. However, this is very difficult to define precisely. One must be cautious about this.

From a Virtual to a Physical Ten

528.01Question: In which group is it easier to work, a physical or virtual one? I have both a virtual ten and a physical one. In my virtual ten, I do not know people personally, and their personal qualities do not bother me. It is easier for me to communicate with them spiritually than in a physical ten because a person’s physical qualities distract me from spiritual work.

Answer: A physical and virtual group are different things.

In a physical group, I perceive my friends as physical beings. This often creates a sense of rejection or regulates our relationships based on the perception of their physical traits. In a virtual group, I perceive my friends less as physical entities, which makes it easier to establish what can be called supra-material connections. Which is better for spiritual development?

First of all, it is excellent that you are analyzing how your perception of a physical group differs from a virtual one. You are correct that a virtual ten is more abstract and does not hinder your efforts to connect. However, this approach is flawed; it is an escape from egoism. Instead of challenging your ego, you are lulling it to sleep.

What you like seeing in others from a distance, you see; what you do not like, you avoid. But this will change. Over time, you will realize that if there is an opportunity to move from a virtual ten to a physical one, you should take it for more intense and conscious spiritual advancement.

Join the Ten

938.01Question: How can one come to the correct action without intention?

Answer: Without intention there are no correct actions.

Question: Then how can I come out of the state where the evil inclination says that there is no sense in doing something, that it is all useless and may seemingly harm?

Answer: In this case you should leave your efforts, join the ten and participate with them in their actions.

A Serious, Working, Spiritual Connection

528.04Question: You said we should have a serious, working, spiritual connection with each other. Can you explain every word: what does serious mean, what does working mean, and what does spiritual connection mean?

Answer: One should have a serious, spiritual, and working connection with the friends in his ten.

Serious—because he puts all his desires into it and believes this is the most critical and vital thing.
Working—because he is willing to work with these desires, deficiencies, and aspirations. And spiritual—because it is all about reaching the next level, the quality of bestowal.

A Structure Similar to the Light

528.01I must always pray for the ten because it is my soul. From the spiritual point of view, I am nothing on my own; the upper light can only bounce off me.

When it shines on me, I feel either attraction to it or positive or negative suffering, but I cannot do anything about it. My conscious action can only come from movement together with those like me. I am obligated to create a structure similar to the light. A structure resembling the light is ten egoists united by a single goal. That is how we act.

It should be noted that women have a way to move forward as follows: if the women’s group unites as much as possible among themselves and, at the same time, helps the men’s group move forward, this constitutes their spiritual work and progress.

Hold on to the Goal

249.03A person must say the opposite of what he said to the evil inclination. He should send messengers to the evil inclination, meaning tell the evil inclination that in his work, a person should be just like angels, meaning a Kli [vessel] for the sake of the Creator (Rabash, Assorted Notes, 375, “Jacob Sent“)

Sending messengers to the evil inclination means paying attention to your egoism and assessing how much it has changed as a result of such an attitude toward it—has it strengthened, or on the contrary, may it have completely disappeared?

Question: How can you understand that the evil inclination is telling you that not everything is good with you?

Answer: Only a friend from the ten can show you this.

Question: So should you wait for your friends to arouse you?

Answer: No, you should constantly strive toward the goal so that you can hold on to it more and more strongly every moment.

What Moves the Group Forward?

938.02Question: Can we say that our common feeling moves the group forward?

Answer: What moves us forward is precisely our unity in the effort to reveal the Creator within it, which is the most central point, the point of our balance.

When we together wish to bestow to one another and receive from one another in order to maintain dynamic equilibrium, we build a platform from our ten that constantly rises.

Within this process, some experience the egoism of the left line while others experience the bestowal of the right line. In this way, we continuously ascend as if on a disk that varies and elevates due to these movements. The key, however, is the central point of the disk where we are all united. It is in this unity through our connection with the Creator that we reveal Him.

At the place where the Creator is revealed, we begin to construct a Partzuf with the help of restriction (Tzimtzum), a screen (Masach), and a striking connection (Zivug de Hakaa) with the Creator. All of this must be mastered by us.

Where Is the Fulcrum?

938.03Question: The fulcrum in spiritual work our inner feelings: is what we consider bestowal,  bestowal for us?

Answer: Our spiritual fulcrum is not a sensation within ourselves, but a feeling found in the center of the group.

It appears, disappears, and reappears depending on our efforts. Yet, it is precisely this point that serves as our support.

There cannot be a point of support within me personally as that would simply be some egoistic point. I need it too, I must feel it, but it is not the fulcrum.

The fulcrum is outside of me, in the center of the ten. When we strive to find this shared central point among us, it becomes a profound discovery—the center of the soul.
