Questions about Spiritual Work—191

560Question: Shadow and light come to us from the Creator. How can we ourselves create the shadow in order to dwell in the clouds of glory?

Answer: Shadow is called concealment. If you cover up the Creator, meaning you do not wish to attract Him, then this is how you advance toward His revelation.

Question: Do we become closer to the Creator when we perceive our corporeal world as a temporary dwelling?

Answer: Certainly, without a doubt.

Question: When we listen to the sources, the mind tries to interpret them in its own way, translating them into a language it understands. Should we stop and try to feel the text as it is?

Answer: First listen to what the mind says before rejecting it. Then start thinking about how to bring it into a more suitable form.

Question: During the holidays of Rosh HaShanah and Sukkot, are there any special lights at work?

Answer: Yes, these are special opportunities, special lights.

The Collective Desire of the Ten

939.01Question: What are the vessels (Kelim) of the ten that are ready to receive the light of the Torah?

Answer: When we connect with each other and wish to come closer ourselves to the desires of the Creator, we reveal within ourselves such qualities that explain to us what spiritual desires mean. Then we draw closer and closer to these desires through our own qualities.

The collective spiritual desire of the ten is the desire in which they want to exist in order to bring contentment to the Creator.

Think And Demand!

562.02Question: The Creator gives us absolutely everything today: the conditions, the environment, and the opportunity to act. I do whatever I can, but in the end, I realize that I am not truly ready to ask the Creator. It is as if I do not want to give Him space to work with me and bring me closer to Him. How can I avoid forgetting that I need to make room for the Creator?

Answer: This is an exercise in constantly thinking about the greatness of the Creator, His uniqueness, and the fact that only He is above us and connects us with everything in the world.

We must continuously hold on to Him, always asking like a child who clings to an adult and persistently demands attention. Eventually the adult gives in.

We must pray to the Creator to reveal unity to us in everything. Then we will feel how interconnected we are, that each person defines the state of everyone else, and that there is no distance between us.

Draw closer to one another as tightly as possible, and from that connection turn to the Creator.

Attract the Attention of the Creator

239Question: We fulfill what the Creator sends us. How can we do it correctly?

Answer: Ask Him. Ultimately, you have the opportunity to talk to Him, turn to Him, ask Him and not turn away, but insist that He explain everything to you.

But even if you do not ask, but just do, He will correct you. From this, you will learn how to respond correctly to His actions next time.

You need to work more among you; digest, and grind everything that you feel from the Creator.

If you cannot figure out your desires and intentions, ask Him about it. And it will turn out that on one hand you will come closer to Him, and on the other hand you will attract His attention.

Seek the Force that Draws You Forward

528.03Question: How can the ten move forward? Which force is better for it to use: pulling or repelling? After all, it happens that in daily routine actions, the ten moves at a normal speed and not with acceleration.

Answer: You should seek the pulling force more and then it will become easier to get out of the state of descent and indifference. You will strive to belong to the pulling force and the movement forward.

Where should you look for this power? In the Creator. Only in the Creator!

When you talk to each other about the Creator, you should feel that there is a force in the ten that pulls you forward. Ultimately it will truly manifest itself in you.

Question: Can we say that we initiate the pulling force with the help of prayer, and the force of repulsion is initiated by the Creator when we do not turn to Him?

Answer: In both cases we must seek the Creator and direct ourselves to Him.

The Difference between Concealment and Descent

236.01Question: What is the difference between concealment and descent, or is it the same thing?

Answer: There is no connection between concealment and descent. Concealment is the action of the Creator when He moves away from us, while descent happens as a result of the concealment one finds oneself in after the Creator distances Himself.

Therefore, we must immediately begin to ask the Creator to bring us closer to Him and thus allow us to rise from concealment.

Run to the Creator!

95Question: Before Yom Kippur, we were studying very seriously, putting in great effort, and as a gift from the Creator, I was shown the difference between His demands of me, of all of us, and what I can offer Him today. What should I do with this?

Answer: You received a great revelation, a certain height of attainment. It is not that you reached it yourself; rather, you were shown how distant you are from the Creator.

Now you must continue working using all your strength, abilities, and actions to draw closer to Him, shed the shell of worthlessness, and with closed eyes run to Him, race toward Him.

None of the Qualities Are Redundant

509The quality of Isaac, who is “left,” there is also the quality of “right,” which is Hesed, and from there it receives life (Rabash, Assorted Notes, 316, “Adam HaRishon – 2”).

Question: When I perform an act of connection with the friends, I awaken the light upon myself and truly feel warmth and ease.

But then, suddenly, some disturbance arises, and I have to raise a prayer to return to the state of connection. Does the quality of “Isaac” come from this disturbance or my intensified yearning toward the Creator? What is this quality?

Answer: We need all the qualities because in the common Partzuf, when it reaches complete correction, all these qualities are fully expressed, and none are redundant.

Question: So is it like a push from inner desires that have not yet been revealed but they strengthen my yearning for spirituality?

Answer: Yes that is correct.

Spiritual Sukkah

942The Sukkah is made of four walls and a thatch. We should understand the meaning of walls and the thatch, which is waste of barns and vineyard. It is known that there are four sides, and above and below. These are called HGT and Malchut, and Netzach above and Hod below. (Rabash, Assorted Notes 892, “An Article for Sukkot”).

The thatch (roof or covering) of the Sukkah symbolizes the screen, which is the most essential part of the Sukkah. The four walls represent the conditions necessary for us to have a screen over us, meaning we must follow the rules for building a Sukkah.

Building a Sukkah means constructing the soul under new conditions. When we build it and complete the construction, we receive a corrected soul, which we essentially built by ourselves according to spiritual laws but with the forces received from above.

Question: Should each person build their own Sukkah, or should we do it together? What do you recommend?

Answer: You do not have to build a physical Sukkah, instead imagine that you are ready to stay in this state for an entire week, doing everything necessary because it is your inner state.

I think by next year, we will be ready to build a spiritual Sukkah between us, and then we will feel that we are inside it.

Order in the Spiritual Work

562.01Question: You recently said that spiritual work requires order. What order are we talking about?

Answer: This refers to the order of our work to draw closer to the Creator when we are constantly looking for more and more prayers, requests, desires, and intentions.

Thus, we wish to get closer to the Creator with the help of all the means available to us.

Question: When we make extra efforts in our work, we accept the light and associate it with the merits of our forefathers, is there a need to bring spiritual intention into everyday physical actions thereby translating them into spiritual actions?

Answer: Certainly. All we talk about all the time is that we need to focus on actions that we can connect and direct to the Creator.
