The food waste is the third-largest source of greenhouse gas emissions. EU alone throws out more than 12 billion tons of food per year. In order to prevent food waste, in England, a new project has been developed: a certain time before the food has to be thrown out by restaurants and cafes, it is available for home delivery. Will such an approach give a good example and help to solve the food distribution problem in the world?

It is true, a so-called Pagpag (“garbage” food) is gaining popularity in the world. It does have a minor impact on the food-related issues, however, dealing with the consequences of the problem does not solve the root breach. We are still inclined to over-consuming and discarding the products, while a vast number of people are hungry, malnourished, etc.

What is the optimal solution?

In order to distribute food correctly, we need to learn how to consume correctly. We are required to create such of social education environment, where, even one wakes up every morning an egoist, he is pushed into the awareness that he is just a small part of a huge system and that he depends on it as well as it depends on him. This needs to be explained to a person on a daily basis, at every opportunity, through all information channels, so we all realize how we influence the world and take our responsibility on how to make it a better and happier place.

As obituaries, tears and heavy mourning continue filling the world in the aftermath of Kobe Bryant’s unexpected death, the grief is accompanied by a very deep question: How does such a person, a cultural icon who had everything considered valuable in life—respect, fame, health, wealth, looks, NBA titles, an Oscar award, a multi-million dollar business empire, a bright future as a brand-builder, an investor, a coach to other athletes and mentor to company founders, as well as a loving and caring family and many friends—one morning come to such a sudden end?

Most in our society follow the news and social media that reports on deaths, accidents, tragedies, people who die under unfortunate circumstances, in addition to reporting on success, sports, entertainment, arts, stars and superstars—people to admire, who make strides to rise to the top of everything that we value in life. When one of our superstars suddenly enters the dark side of the news, we become frozen in shock. How could it be?

Kobe Bryant’s tragic death is a painful reminder to us mere mortals that life is short and temporary. It shows us how, even if we reach the highest levels of success in life, it can all be lost in a split second.

The day Kobe Bryant’s private helicopter crashed, there were other accidents in the world and deaths of people under sad circumstances. Various people, young and old, left behind grieving families. However, we neither know their names nor recognize their faces. This shows us an aspect of our nature that esteems people according to their projection of our life values—our natural desires for money, respect and control—people able to work with determination, discipline and motivation, who grab our attention by outcompeting their way to success, honor, wealth, fame and dominance. We then create systems that advertise these people to us, making them larger than life, embodiments of everything we could possibly want.

Then, when such a person’s life comes to a sudden end, we become jolted. How could such a superstar die? He was immortal to us. He shouldn’t be in the part of the news that focuses on grievous deaths and accidents. That part of the news is for the nameless and countless unfortunates, not for superstars. The Kobe Bryants of the world belong in the sports, entertainment and business sections as positive symbols of accomplishment and success, the winners with fairytale lives who inspire us with hope.

Kobe Bryant’s death is a sign of just how ultimately equal we all are. In the face of death, there is no difference between a great king and an ordinary working man. The naked truth is that the body of the king and the worker ends up buried in the same ground and turns to ash and dust just the same.

Above all of Kobe Bryant’s achievements, perhaps the greatest legacies that his remarkable life can offer us is a reminder of our equality before the certain fate of death, and a powerful call-to-action to treat one another accordingly, with tenderness and love, while we are here. In addition to sharing positive memories about Kobe and comforting his wife and family, we can honor his legacy by using his untimely death as a reminder to increase love and a spirit of unity among humanity. Among his numerous successes, that could well become the greatest achievement that Kobe Bryant can still bring to the world, something which rests in our hands to implement from now onward, and which would truly be larger than the life we have known until today.

If such a spirit of love and unity were to spread throughout society, then maybe we would all be able to reach death pleasantly and naturally, and prevent many future violent and abrupt deaths from happening. Maybe we could then feel that we are all parts of a greater whole, a body of humanity in balance with an even greater nature. And then, just as nature never leaves us, we would never leave it.

Today, the development of technology and artificial intelligence makes us think about our future. If the human workforce is no longer necessary, then what will come of us? How will it influence the social structure?

Historian and philosopher, Yuval Noah Harari, in his book A Brief History of Tomorrow, states that in the near future, humanity will be split into two subspecies:

1) the minority, “the owners” of the artificial intelligence and the super-specialists;

2) the majority, everybody else.

In a wide consideration, there will still be producers and consumers, but when all work niches are filled with an automated workforce, “everybody else” will become just a useless “protein mass,” artificially stimulated to consume. We already can observe this phenomenon today. It seems that there is more to come.

How can we manage this emerging situation?

The wisdom of Kabbalah states that besides what we observe, there is the higher governance. Humanity does not exist all by itself. It has a predefined goal of existence and stages that it needs to undergo in order to reach that goal.

According to the natural process, first, we will reach the understanding that we are killing ourselves (in Kabbalah it is called “the recognition of evil”). Then, we will gradually reveal the possibility of the higher reality, perfect and eternal, to which we can smoothly transition from our current existence.

As a result, we will all go through an inner transformation, and no matter which professions will disappear and which ones will stay, humanity will be aware of how to balance and live a joyful and delighted life.

KabNet published my new article: “Why Connection Makes Us Happier Even If We’re Happy with Less Social Contact”

Highly intelligent people are happier to have less social contact.

That is a conclusion from a study by evolutionary psychologists Satoshi Kanazawa and Norman P. Li, who examined the effects of population density, frequency of social interactions and intelligence levels in relation to people’s happiness.

It is quite a clear phenomenon. We can see how people who engage in specialized fields try to surround themselves only with whatever and whoever relates to the goals they have set for themselves.

“The principle is that when a person desires to connect with others as a means to reach the purpose of life—balance with the laws of nature—then this yearning guides the person to discover his or her perfect place in the system.”

I, too, would be happy to sit in a closed room all day with my books and my computer, and not come into contact with anyone. However, since I have come to the realization that the purpose of our lives is to correct ourselves by positively connecting with others—to transform our egoistic intention for self-benefit into an altruistic aim to benefit others, and by doing so, achieve balance with the laws of nature—then due to my adherence to life’s goal, I do whatever I can to come out of myself and connect with others.

In my case, this involves giving Kabbalah lessons every morning and evening, which is the most direct way to draw the force of connection into our lives. 1,000s of my students around the world use these lessons to increase their closeness to each other and to the laws of nature. They advance in their connection from one day to the next in groups of ten—an infrastructure for realizing such connection.

Outside of the lessons, I also have my schedule filled with speaking in programs for the TV, radio and Internet, writing articles and posts, working on books, and participating in various meetings, all in order to advance the idea of humanity’s needed connection.

Everyone has a different place in the system of creation, and thus it is unnecessary for everyone to study and spread the wisdom of Kabbalah in such an intensive way, even though the option is there for whomever so wishes.

However, the principle is that when a person desires to connect with others as a means to reach the purpose of life—balance with the laws of nature—then this yearning guides the person to discover his or her perfect place in the system. In the wisdom of Kabbalah, this is referred to as reaching the root of our soul, the ultimate harmonious state that we can all achieve.

Rabash, “Concerning the Importance of Society”: Therefore, in matters of work on the path of truth, one should isolate oneself from other people. This is because the path of truth requires constant strengthening, since it is against the view of the world. The view of the world is knowing and receiving, whereas the view of Torah is faith and bestowal.

Question: Will people leave the group of the last generation?

Answer: They will leave because in the group of the last generation one needs to make great efforts to constantly make progress.

The fact is that when you are in psychological groups or groups engaged in spiritual practices, then the movement takes place on the basis of knowledge or development of the method.

However, in the Kabbalistic group, the egoistic engine constantly operates and it kind of pushes you out of the group. If you do not constantly work against it, then you do not rise above it and cannot advance. Therefore, in the Kabbalistic group, there is always a need for additional efforts, and one cannot stand still. This is what forces a person to advance.

Question: Why is it that when a person is taken out of the group, he seems to go against the group and/or the method?

Answer: He must justify himself egoistically, so he turns against the group he was in. He wants to show that he is right and they are wrong. He thus tries to find flaws in the group to prove his point.

When a person comes to the group, the point in the heart, which is awakened from above, speaks within him. He suddenly feels that his soul is here.

Then, to stay in place, he needs to make an effort. This is the place of spiritual work. He holds on somehow, for some time, but if he does not make serious efforts, he is drawn away from the path.

Question: How can one make an effort to clear out all the opinions that a person absorbed during his life?

Answer: Everything is written in the Kabbalistic sources. They are written for this purpose.

Question: Should we have the right to choose where we live?

Answer: A person’s main goal in life is to realize himself in such a way as to do the maximum for society with maximum efficiency.

Therefore, if after studying and examining himself a person feels that he can realize himself in a certain place for the benefit of humanity, then he certainly needs freedom of choice and the opportunity to leave his place and go where he can bring the most benefit to all humanity.

However, he should do so only after he truly saw and verified that humanity needs him in this particular place. This should not simply be his desire, not that it “seems” so to him. No, he knows the general law and, as Baal HaSulam writes, then he may receive special permission from people who understand where he is able to realize himself best. Then, of course he must go and act there.

Also, if a person has nothing to do and in a simple egoistic, material form drags himself from place to place for the sake of greater egoistic fulfillment in another place where he can use what others have prepared for him—this certainly does not make him useful to society. I do not think that this is justified.

That is why emigration today, for example from Asia to Europe, does not benefit either Europe or Asia.

It therefore follows that the rule, “Love thy friend as thyself,” is built on 612 Mitzvot. In other words, if we keep the 612 Mitzvot, we will be able to achieve the rule, “Love thy friend as thyself.” It turns out that the particular elements allow us to achieve the collective, and when we have the collective, we will be able to achieve the love of the Creator, as it is written, “My soul yearns for the Lord.” (Rabash, The Social Writings, “What Does the Rule ‘Love Thy Friend as Thyself’ Give Us?”)

If we take the commandment “Love thy neighbor as thyself” and interpret it in relation to the inanimate, vegetative, and animate nature, and most importantly, to a person in all life circumstances, we will reach all 612 commandments, which are summarized in the 613th. That is why there is no 613th commandment as such; it is a result of implementing the other 612 recommendations.

Remark: The world believes that one needs to fulfill all 613 commandments. Kabbalists, however, say that there is practically only one commandment: “Love thy neighbor as thyself.” All the others are attached to it, they are a part of it.

My Comment: It is written in many Kabbalistic sources, including The Book of Zohar.

In fact, we need to organize ourselves into a human society that would lead us to some kind of system, regulating each other’s relations based on the same commandment: “Love your neighbor.”

To do this, we have to study Kabbalah and learn to fulfill this commandment at every moment, in all circumstances, wherever we are. So gradually we will implement the 612 recommendations.

The Book of Zohar says that all the commandments of the Torah consist of 612 councils and 612 fulfillments. If I follow the advice correctly, then I get a certain portion of the upper Light, which corrects me.

Baal HaSulam, “The Writings of the Last Generation”: From the perspective of Lishma [for her name], it is an emotional need. Admittedly, they are few, as it is written, “saw that the righteous are few… and planted them in every generation,” that they may have demand from birth. However, some abhor material life. If they do not accomplish the goal of adhesion, they will commit suicide.

A meaningless life is the most terrifying prison: you were placed into it against your will and you are obliged to exist in it. Today, humanity subconsciously feels global depression, sensing the uselessness of existence.

There are two forces acting here. One of them shows you that you are nothing, living without a purpose, and the second force should show you the correct path. For the majority of humanity this path does not exist. It is written that they do not have a head, only a suffering body. We, the Kabbalists, must be the head who will show humanity that there is such a way and will become a guide—Moses, leading humanity forward.

With ever-increasing suffering, the masses will realize that they need such a guide, and Moses appears only when such a need appears in humanity. And prior to that, the Kabbalistic group, which represents the head part of humanity, is being prepared.

Question: In this preparation, an individual must constantly feel the pressure of the group, resistance to this pressure, and on the other hand, agree with it, move forward together and work with the group. Is this how it constantly needs to be?

Answer: Yes. If this does not happen, then it must be created so that it happens. The individual must close his eyes and throw himself into the group, dissolve in it, until there is nothing left.

Question: During the period of the last generation, when the majority of people begins to act to bestow to others, will this help the small group that is the head part of humanity?

Answer: Of course. The masses will push them forward. Baal HaSulam wrote that there is great collective desire in the masses, and in the few righteous, there is only the connection with the Creator.

The first group is in great in quantity; the second, in quality. Therefore, the masses represent that great egoistic part that needs to be dragged forward. And that job is given to the righteous.

Baal HaSulam, The Writings of the Last Generation: Israel must be the first among the nations to assume the international, altruistic communism. It must be a model demonstrating the good and beauty of this government. Because they suffer and will suffer from the tyranny of the nations more than all other nations, they are like the heart that burns before all the other organs. Hence, they are better suited to adopt the proper government first.

Baal HaSulam talks about creating a society of absolutely equal people united in one common family that exists in a state of complete mutual guarantee. This is an ideal socialist system working by the principle of “work according to one’s ability and receive according to one’s needs.”

In an altruistic society, no one will take more than he needs. At first, he will not get extra, and then he will stop taking surplus.

People will think only about the consent between all members of society and connection in such a system of interaction in which a single force—one equal, homogeneous field that will fill the entire space between them—will be revealed. This field will be revealed between them not as their derivative, but as their initial force called the Creator.

Question: Is this the ideal perception of a future person because his primordial nature is egoistic?

Answer: The method of Kabbalah is based on the correct application of egoism. It is due to mutual rejection, hatred, and other negative qualities that exist in everyone in relation to others, which we can use to restore the opposite, positive properties above them.
