“What is the most important emotional skill to teach a child?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: What is the most important emotional skill to teach a child?

Friendship. There is nothing more important than being with friends. By that, children develop closeness with other children, how to talk to each other and connect, and in general, the construction of friendly relationships lets us enjoy happier, more balanced and calmer lives.

A friendship is a different kind of a relationship to one where we try to outcompete others and come out as number one in society. Friendships imply that we develop ties of love between us, whereas the individualistic success approach demands us to be constantly stressed in an attack-and-defense mode.

Today, we see more and more children with all kinds of psychological and psychiatric problems, and we see how these mental problems follow them into their adult years. Therefore, the most important emotional and social skill to develop in children is friendship, to develop a feeling of mutual reliance and responsibility among everybody, a state where we could all literally close our eyes and feel at peace.

“What’s so special about the Mojo Vision’s AR contact lenses?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: What’s so special about the Mojo Vision’s AR contact lenses?

One of my students was impressed by how these contact lenses let their users connect directly to the Internet through the contact lenses, and asked about what we could invent that would be even more advanced.

It is that we would not even need to think about what we do not have, and then we would have it, i.e. that everything would exist in us to begin with.

However, such an invention would not make the world a better place. I have yet to see any person, even the smartest, achieve goodness because of having more knowledge.

Happiness does not come from having things that we think we lack. Happiness rather depends on our connection to the source of life, to understanding the secret of life: What is life’s big question? Also, where and what is the fulfillment that is supposed to happen? In short, our happiness depends on getting answers to questions about life’s meaning and purpose. Such questions become clear, and we also find their answers, in the study of the wisdom of Kabbalah.

“What is the highest cause of cancer?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: What is the highest cause of cancer?

Cancer is an outcome of the human ego, which is a desire to enjoy at the expense of others and nature. It is a phenomenon that is very close to spirituality: cells suddenly begin to consume their own environment, and then they themselves die. Nonetheless, however, they begin to consume their own environment. Usually, we more or less correctly relate to the environment that we live off, but then without being aware of it, we destroy our environment as if to our own benefit, and then we die. We can see how such a scenario sometimes plays out, whether between countries and neighbors.

Similarly to how we relate to each other egoistically, the ego also dwells in each and every one of our cells, and it can turn some cells against others.

As long as human society behaves egotistically, we will continue having cancer. Moreover, among all illnesses, cancer will especially continue developing among us. However, it does not work in a direct manner. That is, just because someone is a bigger egoist than others, it does not mean that such a person will have cancer. It could happen to the best of us without any apparent reason.

According to the wisdom of Kabbalah, a cure for cancer requires dealing with our ego. Also, the ego is behind literally every negative phenomenon, problem and crisis that we suffer from. Therefore, by correcting the human ego, i.e. by inverting the desire to enjoy at the expense of others and nature, to a desire to enjoy by benefiting others and nature, we would not only cure cancer, but we would enter into a harmonious, peaceful and healthy existence free from disease and every other problem.

Where Is Happiness?

572.02Question: Lyudmila asks: “Is happiness in us or outside of us? How can I explain to myself and other people what happiness is?”

Answer: First, everything that is felt is in us. We feel, I feel, and no one else. If someone feels something and tells me, but I cannot adequately, at least in some way, feel it, then I do not understand what he is talking about.

Question: If it is not in me, then is there such a thing at all?

Answer: Then there is no such thing.

Question: So, your answer is that happiness is in us, right?

Answer: Of course, in us.

Happiness is when something that you really, really wanted, suffered for, strived for, created huge aspirations in yourself for, and then suddenly it starts to be filled, and you move away, as if, from pain. This feeling can be called happiness.

But there are levels and gradations of what a person suffers from and accordingly what can make him happy. It turns out that one’s greatest happiness is when he feels himself approaching the Creator and adhering to the Creator like a child to its mother. Then he feels happiness. Moreover, this is a very strong desire that constantly gnawed at him.

The person wanted it to happen so much and he was already desperate. Suddenly the Creator appears and says, “Where are you? I am looking for you!” The person wants to say: “It is I who is looking for You! Where have You been? Not me?!” Just like that, they rush to each other, without words and without holding back. This is happiness.

Moreover, this is not a merger, as in our world, when bodies adjoin, but each body remains with its own form and sensation.

But here it is like sensations that mutually penetrate each other, but there are no bodies. There is such a state. I do not know how to say it…

Question: Does my “I” disappear? After all, I wanted this.

Answer: I want it to disappear! I do not need it at all! But if my I disappears, then the sensation of the  other will also disappear. Therefore, it is arranged so that the I does not disappear.

Kabbalah explains that the Aviut (the thickness of egoism) does not disappear. Due to the fact that the Aviut becomes greater and greater, we have the opportunity to align it with the quality of bestowal. It turns out that when egoism and hatred are greater, then love is greater, the greater the hatred, the greater the love.

We do not understand how this can be. In our flat world, it is either this or that. But in spirituality, it’s this way.

Question: To what extent will all this grow: hatred and love over it, more hatred and love over it?

Answer: To the state of infinity. To the feeling that there is no limit to this.

Question: Can this be called infinite happiness?

Answer: Yes, but you need to feel it. It is a very long road to achieve this this feeling.

“Is a hologram a potential spouse now? If so, what are the benefits?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: Is a hologram a potential spouse now? If so, what are the benefits?

Akihiko Kondo is a young Japanese man who married a hologram of a virtual character three years ago, and he is not the only one. Thousands of people in Japan have relationships with fictitious characters. Kondo says that thanks to his relationship with the hologram, his wife, he was able to overcome severe depression.

We live inside a hologram. That is, the world is a kind of a virtual entity, and therefore there is nothing special about it.

One of my students asked me about this phenomenon, whether we could establish a spiritual connection with a hologram, since in Kabbalistic sources it is written, “man and woman, and Divinity between them.” A spiritual connection needs to be a result of people wishing to exit themselves, and entering into a realm where they bestow, love and connect. It does not necessarily have to be toward a male or female spouse.

It is beneficial for us to practice various forms of our relationships with the world and the universe on holograms, because what we perceive surrounding us are nonetheless images that we ourselves depict. Through such exercises, we can discover a connection to the upper force, with which we can enter into a mutual connection.

The upper force is a spiritual force of love, bestowal and connection that governs our lives. Ultimately, behind our every aspiration is a deeper wish to connect with the upper force, and it is possible by developing an equivalent force of bestowal within us. We can do so by training ourselves to be in a state where we wish to love, bestow to, and help everybody exit their egos and enter into the same intention to bestow, love and connect.

“What do old people and teenagers have in common?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: What do old people and teenagers have in common?

As a part of a school project, twins from the 10th grade met with a 77-year-old woman, keeping her company. The project ended a long time ago, but the connection that became established between the twins and the 77-year-old woman grew stronger, which developed into a very close and special relationship, where they spent more and more time together, eating together, and sometimes even staying over at the elderly woman’s place. The older woman mentioned that the girls brought light into her life.

Indeed, teenagers and elderly people can very beneficially complement each other. Teenagers, who have several deficiencies and insecurities, and who seek to make their way in life, can receive answers to a lot of their questions from elderly people. Older people have a surplus of knowledge, understanding and warmth, and they no longer have children whom they can pass it on to. For instance, the elderly woman in this example received vitality through her connection to the teenagers. There is also research showing how much elderly people become enlivened when connecting to children. Unfortunately, we see nowadays that after retirement, many elderly people become lonely, stay at home, and their health deteriorates, similar to flowers that start withering away.

There needs to be a system connecting those at the beginning and the end of their lives. Neither knows how to make this connection, but when that system is operating, then we would see great benefit for both age groups. I would very much recommend creating such connections as broadly as possible in different ways, shapes, forms and for different ages.

“How do you manifest your thoughts into reality?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: How do you manifest your thoughts into reality?

Our every desire makes an impact.

By using our desire, we can achieve anything, but on condition that we examine and bring our desire closer to the general desire of nature, which is one of connection, mutuality and balance. In a word, love is nature’s will.

For instance, if we wish to manifest the best possible and most suitable spouse into our lives, then we need to search inside ourselves, first and foremost, for who and what we are, what we are drawn to, what we wish to achieve, and we will then know, more or less, what we are truly searching for, what we wish to see in our spouse, and what qualities in our spouse can we say that we lack in order to complement each other. Such a force of scrutiny and our inner desire will manifest that reality because we live in a system of forces, and we receive from that system if we activate it.

“How do you prove to your spouse that you love them?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: How do you prove to your spouse that you love them?

By conceding to them.

When one spouse concedes to the other, then the other spouse will feel that concession, and will also want to concede in return. Such mutual concessions become a place for love, as is written, “man and woman, and Divinity between them.” Love will then become a third force that is born between the spouses. Love becomes their spiritual baby.

Moreover, the emotion of love that passes from one person to the next is omnipresent outside of us, and thus the emotion that they give birth to is eternal.

“Why is Israel politically unstable? Can we expect a clear winner this time?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: Why is Israel politically unstable? Can we expect a clear winner this time?

The reason for Israel’s political instability today is that we have reached a state where we hate and cannot come close to each other.

Since this flaw has become revealed, now is the time to fix it.

First of all, anyone who enters politics and becomes a government member needs to become corrected. By “correction” I mean that they should undergo a process of inverting egoism—prioritizing self-benefit over benefiting others—to its opposite—prioritizing the benefit of others over oneself. By remaining as egoists, we bring about destruction.

We need to become aware that, as it is written, “man’s inclination is evil from his youth,” and that we need to correct this evil inclination if we are to reach a better state.

How do we reach a state where we mutually understand each other, where we fight our ego instead of fighting each other? That is what we need in order to reach a harmonious and peaceful life without wars, disputes and trials.

There is a single truth, which is love. In contrast with that truth, we were given an egoistic and hateful nature. We simply need to know how to correctly work with the power of hatred in order to reach its opposite, the power of love, and we should invest primarily in learning and teaching how to undergo this transformation.

“Will severe food shortages affect the United States in coming months?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: Will severe food shortages affect the United States in coming months?

As we develop without taking the meaning of our lives into consideration, then anything is possible. Why not? We need to understand that we cannot kid around with these things.

How is not considering the meaning of our lives connected with possible food shortages and other unfolding crises? It is because without answering the question about the meaning of life, we have no idea how to behave toward one another.

If we were aware about the meaning of our lives, then we would know how to plan our lives. For instance, why do we spend so much money on the military and other useless things? We need to understand the system of life, and how to organize it as a whole so that it can optimally encompass everything.

Food shortages are just one symptom of the deeper problem, and these symptoms emerge in order to awaken us.

The heart of our problems today is human relations. We need to understand that we each host an innate egoistic desire that prioritizes self-benefit over benefiting others and nature, and until we take care of it—learning how to redirect it to enjoy primarily from benefiting others and nature—then we are headed into an abyss.
