Questions about Spiritual Work—9

630.2Question: I feel pain because of what is happening in my country. How can I make it so that I feel pain from the lack of adhesion with the Creator and yearning for Him?

Answer: We must ask for both. On one hand, ask the Creator to connect us and give us the quality of bestowal, love, and connection. On the other hand, ask that we rise above our egoism and thus become more spiritual.

Question: I notice that the greatest egoistic pleasure I experience is when I control something, promote something of my own. Then it becomes unpleasant, I experience the feeling of shame and abomination. How can I escape from this?

Answer: It should influence you not because it is unpleasant, but because it is against the Creator. Then you can ask to be raised out of this state.

Question: How can I stay in a state of lowliness before the Creator, in awareness of His greatness, and the fact that there is none else besides Him? It keeps slipping away.

Answer: If you keep trying to do this, you will understand why you are given such conditions and states. You will have the right discernment of the way the Creator educates you.

Question: When I want to ask you a question, I have fear and trembling. But when I turn to the Creator or to my friends, there is no such fear. Is this a manifestation of egoism?

Answer: Practice. Speak on your own the words of appeal to the friends, appeal to the Creator, and appeal to me. In this way, you will slowly develop a habit.

Question: Is it possible to ask the Creator to tremble before the friends?

Answer: Of course. Anything you want.

“What are the biggest problems in the world right now and how do we solve them?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: What are the biggest problems in the world right now and how do we solve them?

Our main problem is when we try to egoistically fulfill ourselves at the expense of others, when we enjoy by completely disregarding other people and the system of nature we exist in.

We need to understand that we live in a unified system of nature. We are each deeply integrated with everyone and everything, including minerals, plants, fungi, the animal kingdom, and all the people of the world.

By running on autopilot and blindly following the beck and call of our egoistic desire to do whatever we feel like regardless of others, we bring a lot of harm to ourselves and to nature.

If we consider the benefit of all the people in the world, then our actions become aligned with wholeness. That is the key change we need to undergo in order to solve our every problem.

How can we make that change? It is a matter of education.

Education is not only the learning we receive in schools, colleges, universities and so on, but we become educated by every influence and example we receive from society. We thus need to upgrade the values with which we influence ourselves in our societies, by promoting, exemplifying and teaching about the need to shift from self-concern to concern about others.

When we connect positively to others in such a way, the machinery of our lives then operates in balance with nature. We will then experience the full amount of pleasure, joy, happiness and fulfillment that exists in nature, and never bring harm upon ourselves ever again.

“When does having an ego become a problem?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: When does having an ego become a problem?

The ego is the desire to enjoy at the expense of others, and the problem with it is precisely in that it makes us think and act at the expense of others.

It blocks us from seeing how we are one with all the people of the world, as well as with the still, vegetative and animate parts of nature.

Outside of the self-serving perception of reality that our ego gives us, we live in a reality where we are all parts of a single, interconnected and interdependent system. In this system, the ego makes us think and act without considering ourselves as parts of a whole system.

Problems and crises proliferate in our world when our egoistic approach to life continues growing, coupled with us becoming increasingly interconnected and interdependent.

On the contrary, if we think and act for the benefit of the whole system, where we consider the benefit of others and nature in our every move, then we will enter into balance with nature.

When we reach balance with nature, we will experience a major upgrade in life: from a life of increasing problems and crises, to a life of harmony and peace.

“How can you motivate a team?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: How can you motivate a team?

The most effective team motivation is unity, when the team members each primarily value and consistently raise the importance of their unification up to a point where they have no need to even communicate verbally anymore.

“Does nature respond to human actions?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: Does nature respond to human actions?

Think of billions of cars driving with the Mobileye device, which alerts us if we come too close to another object.

The system of nature we are in functions similarly: it alerts us when we do certain actions and gives us feedback on them. So according to our participation in nature, we receive its responses.

How does this mechanism work? It works due to nature having laws.

The laws of nature operate on everyone and everything in order to develop us to the most perfect, harmonious and balanced state.

The most perfect and harmonious state is when all parts of nature enter into a harmonious connection, in balance with nature’s laws.

We receive a positive response from nature whenever our actions correspond to the state of harmonious connection that nature wishes us to reach. Likewise, we receive a negative response whenever our actions oppose the state of harmonious connection that nature wishes us to reach.

Since we are presently far from learning and influencing each other to reach harmonious human connection, then we accumulate more and more problems in our lives. The increasing problems we experience are feedback from nature that tries to tell us that we are aiming ourselves incorrectly, that in order to experience a positive response from nature, we need to direct ourselves at a harmonious and balanced connection among each other.

The sooner we apply ourselves to learning and influencing each other to positively connect, the sooner we will see our lives shift from ones of increasing suffering and emptiness to a life of more and more happiness, harmony and peace, due to our increasing congruence with nature’s laws.

“What is the main existential threat to Israel?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: What is the main existential threat to Israel?

The people of Israel can exist if they unite or at least have an inclination to unite, i.e., that they have a certain plan of how to realize their unity in the future. If there is no motion at all toward unity, then the people of Israel are simply not the people of Israel.

Where do the people of Israel come from?

The people of Israel come from the 70 nations of the world that once lived in ancient Babylon around 3,500 years ago. At that time, Abraham the Patriarch taught anyone who wished to unite and be part of a unique group that would come to feel how to live in mutual support and brotherly love, i.e., to reach “love your neighbor as yourself.” Various people from these 70 nations heeded Abraham’s call, came to learn from him, and he guided them to unite.

From the point of their unification, Abraham gave them the name “the people of Israel,” with “Israel” coming from the words “Yashar Kel” (“straight to the Creator”). That is, this group became united by a common aim at the upper force of love, bestowal and connection that exists in reality, which Kabbalists call “the Creator.”

There are two forces in nature: the force of unification and the force of separation. There is no good or bad, but only these two forces. Those who wished to associate themselves with the force of unification received the name “the people of Israel.” They were people who came to Abraham from various Babylonian nations, and Abraham made a new nation out of them. It is not a people or a nation in the biological sense of the term. Everybody is different by nature, but they became unified according to the law of “love your neighbor as yourself.”

In the roots of the people of Israel, there is unity among different people that makes everyone equal and creates this unique society.

Today, we can see the vast extent of variety among the people who make up that nation. Each person is a world in and of themselves, but while each one is their own world, there is a mutual disregard of one another.

The State of Israel is also unique in that, unlike other countries, it cannot exist if there is no unification among its inhabitants. However, as divided as the people of Israel currently are, they still prosper. Why? It is because we have been given a certain kind of extension. We can exist in order to reach unification because we nonetheless emerged from the diaspora. There is a gathering of exiles in Israel and we have to build something common in order to witness what it means to do something together, and to be together.

Nature’s higher plan organizes us together in one place so that we start understanding the meaning of our togetherness, i.e., so we come to know that we cannot get along harmoniously here without a method of unification that merges us together in a positive fashion, and which can then sustain our nation. Otherwise, we will continue enduring an increasingly divisive and bitter path into the future.

That is why we need Kabbalists: to explain and teach the method of unification, which has the power to unite the people of Israel and evoke the positive force of connection that dwells in nature into human relations.

“What do you expect in 100 years based on what we have and are now?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: What do you expect in 100 years based on what we have and are now?

In 100 years, I hope that we become wiser and have new relations in human society that influence nature’s other levels—the animate, vegetative and still—which would calm down nature’s various influences over us.

Many people think about the different kinds of science and technology that we would develop in the future, but they really do not matter.

What matters is that we use science and technology for humanity’s benefit.

What does that depend on?

It depends solely on the love that we build between us.

Moreover, I hope that we do not have to wait another 100 years to see a world of love, but that we live in such a world much sooner.

Accessible Kabbalah

265Question: People love when you give public lectures. You explain various things very clearly because it is difficult for many to understand more complex lessons like The Book of Zohar, TES, etc. Can they remain on a constant recharge from such large-scale lectures?

Answer: Yes, that is enough. If a person constantly listens to my lectures, and there are a lot of them, dozens, even hundreds, of all kinds of lectures available to a wide range of people, then through these simple phrases a person receives more and more internal information. It breaks deeper into him and works within him.

Perhaps later, he himself will be inclined to open my specific articles and books.

“Is it possible for a Jew to be an anti-Semite?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: Is it possible for a Jew to be an anti-Semite?

A Jew can be an antisemite because being Jewish is not a nationality.

To be a Jew means to be drawn to “love your neighbor as yourself,” i.e., to host an attraction to unity. It is a special kind of perception of reality where a person thinks that everyone needs a harmonious connection more than anything else.

People who are immersed in self-love, emphasizing self-benefit at the expense of others, are not Jews.

Therefore, in order to stop antisemitism, the unifying force of love needs to emerge among the Jewish people. It can happen when we understand that without drawing closer to each other, we will disappear off the face of the planet.
