What the recent elections revealed about ourselves and our future

We have no nation. Division stands in our midst. Those are the results of an X-ray scan of Israel after its 22nd election.

How can a nation constantly in conflict and under threat let its every sector care only about its own backyard and personal interests?

The dead heat between the two main parties and round-the-clock deal-making expected in the coming weeks to form a governing-capable coalition further stresses the great divide in Israeli society. However, discovering the wretched state we are in opens up the perfect opportunity to realize that we have no alternative but to cast a vote for unity and elect the force that connects us as a nation.

How could our nation unite above its divisions? Could politicians put their egos aside and strive instead to rise above their personal benefit for the sake of a common goal? Clearly, no one is interested in doing so, but the fact is, we have no choice.

We have entered an era where the nation is up against grave threats, the most vivid being Iran. Wealthy and powerful Iran is gaining support from Russia and China, and it is convenient for Iran to tag Israel as its enemy. As Iran holds a strategic position in the heart of the Middle East, its beef with Israel lets it flex its muscles in the global sphere, as well as show its readiness to escalate pressure toward that goal.

After 71 years of statehood, instead of becoming stronger, we suddenly reveal that Israel is in an unfounded state. Our legs are stuck in quicksand, and we cannot pull ourselves out. We are a stubborn, powerful, enduring and unequivocally creative people, but in 2019’s second national election, we are left again with polarization and partisan manipulation instead of choosing our good future together.

Why does Israel’s political spectrum look like rough patchwork, where the loose threads fray in detachment to each other? It is because we have failed “to elect” the one and only force that governs all aspects of nature: the upper force. Once again, we have neglected the only Jewish element that justifies our existence as a people: the value of our connection.

In order to come to terms with the urgent call for unity and put it into practice, Israel needs competent leadership that prioritizes rebuilding the social fabric. It will require a gradual educational process that should be led by a national-unity government made up of Benjamin Netanyahu, ex-military chief Benny Gantz, and Avigdor Liberman, with Netanyahu acting as prime minister until the rest acquire the necessary skills to govern. The job of heading a nation requires learning experience just like any other profession, but we have no academy for governing the nation, and the volatile internal and external pressures we face leave no room for trial and error. Ruling the country demands a completely different mindset than ruling the army.

Although organizing our political leadership is important, we will not return to sanity until we realize that our main goal as a nation should be to eliminate our biggest enemy: our war with each other.

The principle of unity that we inherited from Abraham, the father of the nation, has completely escaped us. It is a principle by which we became a nation in ancient Babylon. In its absence, we have dismantled into a loose collection of peoples and “tribes.” The principle of brotherly love built the Temple—the connection between us—and its absence, unfounded hatred, kicked us into exile and persecution.

Therefore, regardless of who will form the next government, we should certainly not depend on the guidance of a flesh-and-blood leader that will be replaced in four years or less. We need to depend on the power of society, the strength of our connection. This is and always has been the root of our salvation as a nation.

In other words, it is important to cast our votes and choose our leaders as in any democracy, but our real free choice should be made on a daily basis, renewed regularly and not subject to the considerations of any government in office. At any given moment, it is worth stopping for a moment to ask: “What are we living for?” “Why do we exist?” “Who runs our lives?” “Who runs the society we live in?” “Who governs us?” “Who is really in control?”

The upper force in nature drives humanity. It emerges from its hidden state when society functions harmoniously in mutual guarantee (Arvut), showing us how we live in a unified system where all parts are interconnected as a singular and integral unit.

Disagreement is part and parcel of our Jewishness. There is no need to eliminate or obscure our differences and divisions. Nor do we have to flatter and agree with the views of others. But we do have to bridge the abyss between opinions, to spread an umbrella of love over our differences, because “love will cover all transgressions.”

As our ship sails forth into unknown waters, it is time to persistently emphasize the positive qualities of others and create a more harmonious society where mutual care, consideration, understanding and support prevail. By doing so, we will be able to realize how our disunity drills a hole in our ship’s keel, whereas our cohesion strengthens our ability to navigate to a safe port of a bountiful land.

That is the election vote we need to cast regularly for the ultimate positive outcome.

Why does Memorial Day come immediately before Independence Day [in Israel]? Everything stems from the upper roots, and in the spiritual work, it is impossible to come to connection, to the good spiritual force, without rising above the evil force, overcoming troubles, problems, and burdening of the heart. The advantage of the light is attained only over the darkness. If we want to get closer to the truth, we should be ready for the revelation of the darkness, then: “and it was evening,” it was night, and after that: “and it was morning, one day.”

Evening, night, darkness, with all its inherent attributes are an integral part of the day. That is why Memorial Day traditionally comes right before Israel’s Independence Day. Independence Day symbolizes the coming of the light and a great correction. Before that we must discover that we are in darkness, in the midst of evil and war, and we must fight and win this war to come to Independence Day.

“Love covers all transgressions.” Since we, the created beings, attain everything only from contrasts, before Independence Day there has to be Memorial Day. Everything we went through was intentionally sent to us from above and all the suffering has its goal and explanation; therefore, we have to relate to it as something necessary.

Yet, if through our connection we discover this necessity in a positive way, we even do not have to suffer from darkness, troubles, and misfortune. If we are prepared for the darkness, we hasten it and can go through it as a necessary part of our development so that evening and morning will be as one day, that is, the night and the darkness will be included in the day, in the Light.

Kabbalists understand that everything that happens is a part of the process of development, so they justify it as sent by the single upper force that brings us good in every state. If we try, we will discover there is only good and there is no evil. The angel of death will turn into a holy angel. With the correct preparation, we can go through all the difficulties with understanding and agree with them because in the darkness and in the Light we will discover the good attitude of the Creator toward us.

There are no days of mourning and states of sorrow because everything becomes connected at the end of correction: all the darkness, troubles, and misfortunes, together with the Light that opens above them, in general unity and love.

If even before the problems and troubles are revealed we ourselves search for the deficiencies and for shattered desires as necessary tools for the revelation of the Creator in order to bring Him contentment, we rejoice at the wicked being revealed. After all, the concealed wicked definitely exist as a result of the complete shattering; therefore, we rejoice at all the revealed deficiencies and regret that we have not revealed all of them.

If we reveal evil in the light of the day, “darkness shines as light.” It means that there is no darkness and everything depends on my attitude. If I reveal a disagreement between a friend and me in order to eliminate this disagreement by connecting above it and covering it with love, then I rejoice at the revelation of deficiencies no less than at their correction. The entire work depends on the correct preparation in the group.¹

Memorial Day is a sad day. However, from the past bitter experience, we must understand that we can prepare ourselves for the revelation of evil so that we will not see the evil! Evil will be revealed only on the internal level as a lack of connection, not as evil in this world, war, and hatred of enemies. As it is written, “looked at him and turned him into a pile of bones.”²

We must understand that our enemies have power and they can cause us a lot of troubles. Indeed, the Creator works through them, pushing us to correction. We will have to find a way to correction, and it is only in our inner connection with the people of Israel through which the Light will flow into the world.

Let us try, let us arrange a “truce” within the state of Israel for even one month: We will not quarrel with each other; we will not hate each other; rather, we will try to get closer to each other. The love of Israel will protect us from enemies. Let us try to allow this love to reign among us, recall what our mothers used to tell us “Be good children, stop fighting, be friends!”

Let’s see what happens after a month of this experiment. Then it will be easier for us to continue because the habit will become the second nature. Let us try and see how the attitude of the world toward Israel will change, how our shares will rise in the stock market, the army will strengthen, our children will become better, the number of accidents on the roads and the number of divorces will decrease—everything will begin to improve. Let us declare a month of unity and then check the statistics: what happens to the people of Israel when they are not in internal conflict.³

Jerusalem is the place of the Temple and at the same time the place of destruction. We need to reach a state when Jerusalem, which means “complete fear/respect” (Ira’a Shlema), will dwell in our hearts, in our desire, and with the acquired intention for bestowal, we will build a perfect spiritual vessel there called “the Temple.”

Both the first spiritual vessel—reception for the sake of bestowal—and the second one—bestowal for the sake of bestowal—belonged only to the head of the common soul. The third vessel will include both bestowal for the sake of bestowal and reception for the sake of bestowal for all the nations, as it is written: “My house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples” (Prophets, Isaiah 56:7). That is, for the entire desire to enjoy created on human level. Everyone will equally receive revelation of the upper force in common unity. Differences between people will disappear and this world will disappear at the end of correction, as Baal HaSulam writes. Only a common desire in which all unite in perfect unity will remain, fully filled with the upper Light.

Everyone will be in complete attainment of the upper force, as one heart, without any differences. On the contrary, the previous separation will work to strengthen the unity, as it is written: “Love will cover all transgressions.”

The restored Jerusalem must be like this. But for now, as we see, it is in a state of total destruction. There is no city in the world that is more divided, torn apart by every possible opposition and contradiction. It must all be revealed as material for correction.

Jerusalem Day reminds us of a needed correction. It turns out that it is not a celebration in honor of the city itself. It is a celebration in honor of the opportunity given to us for deliverance.

We celebrate the day of Jerusalem being given to us as a place of work and the place where correction will take place in the future. Then, the people of Israel and all the other nations as well as the land of Israel and the whole world will be revealed in adhesion with a single Creator.

Through this, Israel will fulfill its mission of being a Light unto nations. The mission of the people of Israel as the head of the spiritual Partzuf in relation to the body is to correct the whole of humanity. However, the correction should spread to all the nations, and the revelation of the Creator in all His might happens precisely in the body of the common soul, that is, in the nations of the world.

It is written that at the end of correction the land of Israel will spread to the whole world. That is, the desire to enjoy that relates to the attainment of the Creator will spread to the entire universe and everybody will unite together and will become one nation of the Creator, as it is written: “They shall all know Me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them.”

Jerusalem relates not only to the unification of Israel, but also to the unification of all of humanity. This particular point, this city, existed even before our forefathers came to the land of Israel; they did not create it from scratch.

The fact that the nations of the world, for example the US and others, move their embassies to Jerusalem is kind of a symbol. However, this does not perform the correction itself—the correction is incumbent upon the people of Israel. The time has come for all those who are at the degree of Israel (Yashar-Kel), that is, striving to reveal the Creator, to unite with each other and with the Creator, and to become the head of the spiritual Partzuf. Our unity, and nothing else, is what’s most important.

70 years—for a country this is a young age. However, it is a time for taking a look into results. I am very glad that we have something to be proud of on our 70th anniversary. Today’s Israel is an advanced country. Science, high tech, medicine, military technology, agriculture…, in many areas we are recognized world leaders.

However, most of all, I am happy about another one of Israel’s achievements: the fact that today the wisdom of Kabbalah is being revealed more and more. We can openly talk about it, spread its knowledge, and people listen to us. They already understand that Kabbalah is neither mysticism nor witchcraft, but a science that builds strong bridges of love among all people, regardless of their race and place of residence.

We can see how people from numerous countries come to our conventions in Israel. At the last convention there were representatives from 75 countries. They come at the call of the soul, and we see how warmly they speak about our country, with such gratitude and love!

And this is against the background of extremely negative attitudes toward us from many countries of the world. This does not stop them. They feel that “love your neighbor as yourself,” which is the basis of our nation, is the only true direction in life.

We live in a unique time, a time when we are given the chance to succeed. But there is no guarantee that we will actualize it. We were gifted this time in order to gain strength and understanding of where we are and what we need to do.

Baal HaSulam calls this “the time of open opportunities for liberation.”

We have been given this chance, and our entire work consists of trying to implement it and to bring into life all that is written in the Kabbalistic books. No one knows how this will result in the end. Baal HaSulam wrote about the existence of the danger that this chance will remain unrealized and that the State of Israel will fall apart. After all, there are very powerful forces against us.

The Creator has arranged these enemies for us, enemies who possess patience, power, great quantity and quality. We must understand that we need the power of the Creator to battle with them. If we understand this, then we will win. But if we do not, then the State of Israel has no future.

This is because the only condition for the existence of the State of Israel is our unity. Therefore, neither a military power nor America with Trump will help us—no other power, other than the power of our unity.

The only question lies in whether the nation of Israel is ready to hear this and when it will hear it. So far, it is only growing stronger in its pride and ever more distant from the truth, ever more distant from each other, and is ever more hated by all others.

The Jews are very proud of their material success, which has no connection to their inherent mission. The Israeli, European, and American Jews each have their own particular symptoms of the disease, but they are all still united by one thing: hatred of the nations surrounding them. Let us hope that this path will not bring us to a Holocaust similar to the one that already occurred in the past.

Time is running out, we have wasted much of it, and the nation of Israel still has not changed internally for the better; even to the contrary, it has become worse. We have no one to depend on other than ourselves and the Creator. It is a terrible problem when there is a possibility to achieve correction and complete our mission, but the people do not hear it. Only 70 years have passed since the Holocaust and its lessons have apparently already been forgotten.

We were given the opportunity to unite, to leave the countries where we were hated, and to begin together to discover the inner essence of the nation of Israel known to all, both religious and secular, about which it is written: “Love covers all transgressions.” But no one wants to accept this law; the opposite: separation and interpersonal conflict continue to grow stronger. We see that history teaches us nothing.

Only through dissemination of the wisdom of Kabbalah and attracting the Light that reforms can things be improved. The entire world is suffering and will continue to suffer even more.

We are all sliding down an inclined plane. Let us hope that with our participation in the correction, the pressure of the world on us will be relatively soft, but nonetheless will obligate us to unite.

If we do not awaken our inner Egyptians ourselves, if we do not feel that they are hiding within us, hindering our connection, then maybe the world will help us in this and will demand the methodology of connection.

At one time it was not so apparent, but today everyone understands that the unity created in the last 30 to 40 years is destroying the world. Initially, everyone was thrilled that society became global and integrated, thinking that this will bring us prosperity. But now, it is already clear that it is not so. Today real wars are already beginning: China, the US, etc.

This is an obvious sign that unity is not possible until the egoism is corrected. And until that happens, unity will always be harmful, as it is written: “Unity of sinners will bring harm to them and to the world.” In the end, it will bring tremendous wars.

Today, especially for the upcoming Holocaust Remembrance Day, the world is very much in need of such clarification (and the antidote).

The Meaning of the Custom to Get Excessively Drunk on Purim

After our salvation through our unity, the joy erupts, and it is a commandment to drink until we cannot tell right from wrong. This is because our unity spreads unity, until every person and nation willfully makes the right “click” to each other. By this, we become a “light unto nations,” a beacon of the light of unification for the whole of humanity.

By uniting, we would not need to watch our backs all the time like we do now. Also, we would not distrust or suspect any one of any devious or underhanded intentions, since we would be as a single person. Intoxication signifies the blurring of lines between Haman and Mordechai, since when united, the tension between these tendencies becomes released in euphoric joy.

We are facing a task of double complexity. First, we must convince the people of Israel that we need to achieve unity, even though they are opposed to correction and unification.

Apart from this, it is also necessary that people understand that unification is only possible through studying the wisdom of Kabbalah and the Reforming Light that is attracted by this study. That is, the problem is to convince them to accept both the goal and the means.

The goal is that “All Israel are friends,” in other words, the complete unification of the people within which the Creator will be revealed. Not only is it necessary to achieve love between us, but also through the wisdom of Kabbalah, and this is even more repelling. However, we need to understand that our unity is an absolute necessity if we want to avoid extermination.

Remark: When the situation becomes threatening, then the people of Israel will rise as one man and unite.

My Comment: Then it will be too late! Why didn’t the Jews escape this way during Hitler’s time? Today the fire can flare up instantly, as if on dry chips. Back then Hitler’s plans were implemented over several years. Laws against the Jews began to emerge about ten years before concentration camps appeared.

The situation was getting worse gradually, but no one rose to protest. The world turns a deaf ear and heart to what is happening to the Jews. This deafness comes from nature, from the side of the Creator in order to oblige the Jews to fulfill their mission. The Creator does not consider animate bodies and egoistic desires; the most important thing for Him is the desire to bestow that is called a soul.

However, we can avoid blows through awareness and understanding in order not to receive them physically. It is written that “Everything will be clarified in the thought.” If we are aware of our mission, then this is enough and we will no longer need suffering. A clever child understands everything through one glance of a parent and there is no need to shout at him and, all the more, to beat him.

Therefore, it is worthwhile even now to think where the blows come to us from and their cause. Who controls this world and sends us these sufferings? If the people want to sort out this question and listen to the opinion of the Kabbalists who wrote about this at all times, then they have an opportunity to reveal the truth.

We all witnessed the conflict that erupted around the metal detectors installed by Israeli security services on the Temple Mount, which eventually had to be removed. However, in fact, they were not at all important to Arabs, for them this was just a reason to protest.

Look how they united around this trifling reason and inflated a big flame from it. However, we have nothing to say, after all, we passed them the reigns of control of the entire universe. We give the Arabs the right to control the world by our disunity.

If we continue in this way, it will become worse. The UN, UNESCO, and various commissions will start issuing anti-Israeli decrees one after another. First, they will tell us to leave the Temple Mount, then Jerusalem, and then the land of Israel. We will have nowhere to go, nobody will accept us, just like it once was in Germany. After all, we have not learned from the past mistakes.

The entire universe is one spiritual system and the people of Israel can only affect its head. It is not without reason that Israel is called “My head” (Li-Rosh). If we start to perceive current affairs correctly and influence them wherever we can, then we will be able to change reality.

This is the only way to correct the situation. We rely on our missiles, weapons, and strong army, but this will not help. It may happen that with all our military power, arsenal of rockets, and atomic bombs, we will not be allowed to take a single shot from the smallest pistol. Therefore, we must explain to the people that we do not have any other way to save ourselves from this dangerous situation, except for unity.

Question: Why are Nazis suddenly becoming active now?

Answer: Human society has reached such a state in its development where there are two paths before them. One way is to unite on the basis of egoism and hatred, which is expressed in national socialism and fascism. And then the whole society is divided into ranks: those who are higher and those who are lower. In this way, egoism sorts all of humanity.

And the Jewish people, as bearers of Abraham’s method, are polar opposite to fascism because their method is based on the path of correction, not the natural path of egoism. That is why Jews especially hate fascists.

The path of natural development leads to unification on the basis of Nazism until the time when all its terrible consequences are revealed. Or we can also unite with the help of the Light above egoism through Abraham’s method.

The world becomes integral and “round.” And humanity has two ways to achieve this form of a circle. One way is inside knowledge, that is, inside egoism, and this form is called Nazism. The other way is above knowledge, above egoism, according to Kabbalah’s method, meaning “by the path of Light.”

Fascism is revealed in order to make everyone understand the catastrophe to which this path leads and so that we begin to unite above egoism sooner or later.

History repeats itself until we correct it. Hitler and the Nazis in Germany had very high hopes for America, expecting that Nazism would continue to exist on its soil. After all, there were a lot of Germans among the founders of the United States. There was even a discussion about which language would be the official language in the USA: German or English. In the end, they chose English, but they had almost equal chances.

Question: How is the current state of things different from the 30 – 40s of the last century? Have we become smarter?

Answer: It does not seem that we have become smarter. Humanity does not learn from past mistakes at all, because the same egoism works within a person. But today we have an opportunity to spread the wisdom of Kabbalah and explain it, because already a lot of people are engaged in Kabbalah around the world.

Therefore, it is possible that we will be able to explain that the world is standing at dangerous crossroads and what can we do to save ourselves from destruction. Otherwise, the world condemns itself to terrible suffering and to a world war. And it will indeed be worldwide and not localized as in the last century.

Question: According to the science of Kabbalah, who owns the Temple Mount and the Cave of Machpelah?

Answer: They belong to the Jewish people when they are united. However, today the Arabs are more united than we are. What kind of correction is possible when people are separated?

The unification of people is possible only through the methodology of the wisdom of Kabbalah; only it can unite everybody. The people are even proud that they have so many different movements and factions: Hassidim and “Mitnagdim,” Ashkenazi and Sephardi, Orthodox Jews and “the knitted kippahs” of various types, plus a further division into “Germans,” “Moroccans,” “Romanians,” and “Russians.”

This just indicates that we do not perceive everyone as brothers, but only as comrades in distress during difficult times. We are like nuts in a bag that are forced to be together because the external pressure keeps them in one bag.

Therefore, such commotions happen on the Temple Mount. I see the forces of nature behind all the characters acting there. But nature is in our hands and we create all the current events with our own hands. Therefore, we cannot expect something different, because obviously nothing has improved within us from yesterday until today.

Does anyone else beside our organization talk about love and unity among the people of Israel? Everyone laughs at us when we try to spread this idea of unity through radio and newspapers.

They agree to publish our articles only for a lot of money because we talk about love and who needs it? Yet, if we wrote about hatred and squabbles between opposite sides they would be happy to publish this for free.

There is no point in waiting for a good life in this situation. It is written that all the problems stem from the destruction of Jerusalem. Due to the fact that there is more and more destruction among us, the Arabs are gaining strength. One is against the other, when we lack unity, they rise. They only become stronger due to our separation. The main thing is not material actions, but our lack of connection.

The most terrible thing is that the people of Israel themselves begin to agree with the nations of the world that we do not have the right to the Temple Mount and to the land of Israel. If we continue this way, eventually we will be told that we do not have the right to exist on the Earth at all, as Hitler said. Initially he wanted to expel the Jews from Germany, but then he decided to exterminate them on the spot.

If we do not realize our mission of correcting the world, then it turns out that we do not need to be on this Earth. The Jewish people are the conductors of the method of correction. However, if we do not use it, if there is no method of correction in the world, then there are no Jews. This probably is the next stage and the entire world will agree to this, as it already happened during Hitler’s times.

Nobody wants to talk about it now, but in fact, then everyone agreed with his policies. No one protested against the extermination of the Jews. There were only a few extraordinary individuals, the righteous of the nations of the world, who helped the Jews, risking their own lives. However, there were only a few of them.

It is possible that the same thing will happen today, everyone will agree that the Jews do not have a place on this earth. After all, the people of Israel exist exactly in order to implement the method of correction, especially at a time when they are already able and obliged to do this according to the upper program.

Question: On the Temple Mount, they dismantled all the security measures; in other words, the entrance is more or less free. It is possible to say that Israel surrendered to the pressure of the Arab world and Europe? Should one be happy or cry?

Answer: This is a very great failure of our security forces, who could not correctly calculate the power of the Arabs or the power of the government, which didn’t take into account that the issue of the Al-Aqsa Mosque could provoke such a storm all over the world.

From year to year, the Jews have simply become more and more obtuse, apparently unwise, whereas the Arabs have become more and more wise. They can be influential through all the international organizations that they have entered and can reach agreements between them. They are no longer the same Arab nations they once were. In fact, we have no friends and supporters, while there are necessary supporters among them because they have the power. Therefore, our future is gloomy and vague.

It is up to us to draw the following conclusions: it is not necessary to carry out extreme actions if we don’t know for sure to what these actions will lead. It is preferable to sit quietly and understand how it is possible to gather power like this that can correctly convince the world of our justice.

Question: Can we truly win?

Answer: Yes, if we succeed in convincing ourselves and the world that we are right. In the meantime, we cannot do this today.

Question: How is it possible to do this?

Answer: It would be only if we prove to the entire world that we have the ability to give the world a method to get rid of evil. That is all. The world doesn’t need anything else.

Question: What are you calling “evil?”

Answer: Evil is the tremendous human egoism. If we can show the entire world that we have a method for getting rid of it, and as a result of this we get rid of all the problems, conflicts, hatred, and rejection, then the world will begin to agree with us.

But, we need to show this by means of personal example! We are a “broken” nation, the most separated, and egoistic. If we look at ourselves, for example, how effective our method is with us, within a small group of the population in a small nation, then nature will arrange things such that the world will have no choice but to pay attention, hear, and agree with us. Only in this way can we be saved from all the problems!

Question: Will the world see that there is a corner of the Garden of Eden [paradise] in which they are living in friendship and love, and will also want to live like this?

Answer: The world will be compelled to see this because they are looking at us all the time. It is only that, in the meantime, they are not seeing anything good. If we show them that we have a method for the correction of all of humanity, then everyone will see.

Comment: And then there will be no need to close the Temple Mount.

Answer: There will be no need to close anything. Everything will get along by itself.

Question: What is possible to do so that we will believe this?

Answer: It is not necessary to believe. It is simply necessary to do because there is nothing bad in this. It is written in our sources. It is simply necessary to agree with it.
