Yom Kippur: Disclosure Of Desires That Need Correction

laitman_294.2The earthly calendar with its holidays does not quite reflect what is happening in the spiritual world. The state called “Yom Kippur” can be realized on Hanukkah or Purim, and Passover, the exodus from Egypt, can happen at any moment. In our world, everything is determined by a common inanimate system, but in spirituality, everything depends on a person, on his individual development. Therefore, it is quite possible that one of us is in the state of Purim, another one is in the state of Pesach, and still another is in an ordinary weekday or the ninth of Av.

Spiritual states refer to the unification of people until the complete restoration of the common system of the first man, Adam. This system was shattered and we need to reassemble it. Gradually, all its broken connections are revealed, all the severity of the shattering that penetrated to the very depths of nature.

Yom Kippur is a harsh state. However, it is very important for correction because on this day the lack of connection between us is revealed, the lack of faith, the lack of the feeling of the Creator. Also, the correction of this day is: “Return, O Israel, to the Lord your God,” that is, feeling the upper force as yourself. By connecting with each other, we allow the Creator to be revealed between us and we adhere with Him.

Yom Kippur is the disclosure of all the desires that need correction. The main thing is to reveal one’s evil, because the correction will already be fulfilled by the upper Light. Our task is to realize our own evil, to hate it, and to want to get out of it. And the Creator will complete this work for us.1

All the sins occur only for one reason: the absence of the feeling of the Creator. One can even say that the absence of the feeling of the Creator is the main crime.2

Fasting On Yom Kippur

laitman_290Fasting on Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement) symbolizes that we restrict our broken desires and are ready to use them only for the sake of bestowal. If the desires are corrupted, then their correction begins with a Tzimtzum (restriction), with the condition that we do not accept any Light if there is no intention to bestow to my neighbor.

I will be able to use my desire for the benefit of others if I stop receiving for a “full day,” and then I can again return to receiving the Light. This means that I have passed a full stage detached from receiving, in restriction, and now I can receive the Light again, for the sake of bestowal. In the spiritual world, this action takes place on every new stage.1

We exist in the full HaVaYaH, the five Sefirot: Keter, Hochma, Bina, Zeir Anpin, and Malchut. If you cut off all the particular Sefirot of Malchut from them, then the remaining Kelim can be used. Therefore, on Yom Kippur there are five restrictions against Keter, Hochma, Bina, Zeir Anpin, and Malchut: a ban on food, drinking, intimacy, bathing, and wearing leather shoes. Everything else is our internal thoughts and desires and a calculation should be made there not to receive for one’s own sake.

This means that you make a restriction and so move yourself through the “judgment.” Yom Kippur is the day of judgment.2

Israel Is The Spark In The Heart

laitman_294.2It is difficult to explain what the true reality is because it is hidden and our eyes are distorted. However, one has to make an effort to see the picture as close to the truth as possible. We live in an imaginary world, because all that we see are only symbols of spiritual properties.

The whole world is diverse fragments of the desire that vary in power; that is, the degree of their corruption that corresponds to the power of the desire. The more corrected the desire used to be in the system of the one common soul of Adam before its shattering, the more corrupted it is now.

After the shattering of the common desire, a fragment of the screen remained in each of its particles, a spark of the reflected Light, which existed before Adam’s sin. That is why today there are so many people in the world, that is, desires in which the spark manifests more or less.

The common Light affects the shattered fragments of the desire and awakens them to life, layer by layer. The desires feel the urge to approach the upper Light, to resemble it. At first, they are drawn to it egoistically with a corrupt intention, trying to use the spark left in them from the spiritual state of mutual bestowal for the sake of their enjoyment.

Those desires that have woken up until today or will still wake up and strive to the goal of creation, to adhesion with the Creator, are called “Israel” (Yashar-El—straight to the Creator). These are desires with very strong sparks that awaken a person.

Also, those in whom the sparks are still weak are called the nations of the world because they feel only ordinary, earthly desires: not to adhere to the Creator, but just to live comfortably in this world. This is the difference.

If the nations of the world feel that no occupation in this world can provide them with fulfillment, then they agree to join Israel, wishing that people who strive for spirituality lead others and bring them to correction. After all, a hope for fulfillment is only there. Otherwise, they will pull Israel down, into egoistic desires.1

Dissemination Of The Science Of Kabbalah

laitman_608.03We exit the world of infinity (state 1) and through the 5 worlds, through the work in the ten (state 2), come back to the world of infinity, but already corrected (state 3). The whole world is but one ten; there is nothing but the world of infinity, and all the information about the states we will be going through comes from there.

In reality, the ten includes the whole of humanity in it, all the souls, the Kabbalists from every generation, everything that was, is, or will be. Everything is one ten, but we can only perceive its limited range in our state 2. At this state, we have to fulfill our work to the maximum and urge everyone toward correction.

We have received a special mission: to be responsible for state 2, at humanity’s head, leading it to correction. Even the souls of the great Kabbalists and righteous people are, in a way, below us, because in their work they depend on our prayer, on our effort. It is understood that they awaken and help us, but they do so covertly.

Today, we have to gather this broken, differential reality with its 5 worlds, Partzufim, and Sefirot, and all the fragmented parts, and reassemble it into one circle. A “circle” is the head and the body is always a “square.” The head has no limitations, only the body does. And we have to bring the body closer to the shape of the head, to its teaching. So we transform from a Partzuf into a circle.

Once a person understands this system and his role in it, he begins to care about the whole of humanity, to try his very best to come out of his thoughts about himself and spread the science of Kabbalah into the world. He understands that his success depends on the whole world, which is in deep crisis.1

The world is my imprint, magnified 620 times. All my inner shortcomings that I fail to see in myself, I see in the world through a magnifying glass, as if with x-ray vision.

By studying the world, we want to reveal what is inside of us. Aiming for the cosmos or for the depths of the ocean, we actually try to attain our inner essence, without even realizing it.2
