Corrected Kli

608.03Creation has a desire. If creation can block itself from receiving the light, it is called making a restriction (Tzimtzum). If after that it partially opens itself so that the light can enter it, this is the nature of creation itself.

In other words, this is already proper reception, reception for the sake of bestowal.

In the world we study, there is a balance between receiving the light and rejecting it, that is, a Kli that does not accept the light, but then opens itself so that, through the light that it receives, it can resemble the Creator and become equal to Him, such a Kli is called corrected.

The Divinely Simple Plan

235His operations did not come to be by many thoughts, as is our way, for He is one, unique, and unified. And as He is simple, His lights, which are extended from Him, are simple and unified, without any proliferation of forms, as it is written, “My thoughts are not your thoughts, and your ways are not My ways.”

Therefore, understand and perceive that all the names and appellations, and all the worlds, upper and lower, are all one simple, unique, and unified light. In the Creator, the light that is extended, the thought, the operation, the operator, and anything the heart can think and contemplate, are one and the same thing in Him (Baal HaSulam, The Study of the Ten Sefirot – Inner Observation).

Question: How can it be understood that plan and action are one and the same for the Creator?

Answer: Only in relation to us is it divided into several actions, but for the Creator, there is no division at all and no actions whatsoever. We feel different actions because we exist in impure desires, in Klipa. The Klipa creates time; it stretches it like rubber. You have one action, and you stretch it out and separate its parts from one another, as if pulling rubber; that is the action of the Klipa.

The Creator does not have such a thing, and therefore His thought, action, the beginning of creation and its end are all contained in one single plan. And in this plan, there are no details at all; it is only in relation to us that it begins to manifest itself as the four phases of direct light and all the further development. For the Creator everything is contained in the very root, at the “tip of the letter Yod,” and not even in the Yod itself, but even higher than that where we already exist in His plan.

And all the rest of the development takes place in relation to the created beings, so that they may understand, feel, and attain where they are and that they exist at all.

The root of impure desire, Klipa, also lies in the Creator, for it is His direct opposite, like His reverse imprint. Light creates darkness, its reverse side (in Hebrew, “Ohr” means light, and in Aramaic, “Orta” means night). There is none else besides the Creator! But He turns to you, sometimes with His face, sometimes with His back, so that you can study Him in this way.

It is as if He says: “You did not want to get to know Me in a good state, so now I’m going to arrange adventures for you and make you get to know Me from the bad side so that you will understand that before I related to you kindly. If you now understand, then I will return to goodness again, but after this whole circle you will begin to value My attitude. And this does not mean that I need your attitude so much, but then you will begin to understand what kind of quality you have acquired: the quality of love and bestowal.

It seems to us as though He deliberately does this to spite us. But the Creator does not want to teach us this way; it is only we who feel it so.

Merge with the Creator

598Question: You’ve repeatedly spoken about how creation turns itself toward the Creator and can regulate its connection with Him. How can we now, while reading TES (The Study of the Ten Sefirot), direct ourselves toward greater connection with the Creator?

Answer: Based on what we are reading, you should understand that our most important task is to clothe ourselves as much as possible in the desire to bestow (what we will later study as reflected light) and sense the Creator, perceive Him, and become one merge with Him in this state.

That is, just as He reveals Himself as influencing us, so too we must reveal ourselves as influencing Him.

How does this manifest itself? Very simply, from the Creator we must receive the desire to bestow, which we must direct back to Him.

In this state, we become analogous, completely similar, to Him. The Creator, by sending us light, influences us, and we, in turn, by receiving light, influence Him. It follows that the Creator fills us; this is His purpose. And despite our desire not to receive, we accept the light from the Creator and merge with Him.

Questions about Spiritual Work—257

281.02Question: Is connection with the Creator my personal feeling of reality or is it a true state that is independent of my feelings?

Answer: It is your personal state.

Question: It is said that there is nothing perceived or imagined in the spiritual worlds. Then how do we reveal and feel such qualities as, for example, personal governance?

Answer: When we come to it, then you will begin to feel it and work with it.

Question: We work between us, receive the quality of bestowal from the Creator, and adhere to Him in this point. From this point, what is considered the ascent of the common heart?

Answer: We will learn that later. I am afraid that now you might lose the thread of your thoughts.

Reveal Our Root

238.01Question: The upper root of the Creator seems to be detached from the will to receive, from creation.

How can we be connected with it, while being completely dependent on it on one hand, and on the other hand, absolutely detached?

Answer: We are not detached from it. On the contrary, we must reveal how deeply we are connected with our root, with the Creator, with the upper force, and how we can draw closer to Him and constantly reveal Him as our root.

Question: Can the will to receive reveal this root precisely from its nature?

Answer: No, for it is only one end. We can reveal our root only by being opposite to it. Therefore, in order to understand creation, we must study the Creator.

The Result of Spiritual Work

963.5Question: How can the full potential of matter that pertains to creation be revealed within us? Should we attach this matter to the Creator or attach everything that is in the Creator to this desire, to matter?

Answer: In principle, when we study the desire to receive, we thereby ascend to the Creator and can join Him, merge into Him, and unite with Him. This is the result of our spiritual work, which is what He desires from us.

In Our Power

243.04Question: You said that creation connects with the Creator through its desire to receive. But how can it connect through this desire to the desire to bestow?

Answer: These two kinds of desires are connected between us, and between us and the Creator. Therefore, through the desire to receive, creation can influence the Creator, His desire to bestow to us. This is our work.

It is like one end of the thread, from us to the Creator, and it is in our power, in our hands.

294.2Question: It is said that the desire to receive the Creator’s light is the material of creation. But is the desire to delight the Creator a different kind of matter? Is it something we create?

Answer: It is also a relationship between creation and the Creator: either to the Creator or to the creation. Therefore, we must work with both.

Question: So a person is called to train their desire: what should be desired and for what purpose?

Answer: Yes, we must number our desires and figure out which ones bring us closer to the Creator or further from Him and what to do with them.

And so by gradually changing, we will move from one stage to another.
