Michael Laitman, On Quora: “Turning to the Creator—the upper force of love and bestowal“

The most important and needed action in our lives is turning to the Creator—the upper force of love and bestowal—and asking Him for help: to help us correct ourselves from the situation He created us in— the evil inclination, i.e., the egoistic desire to receive for self-benefit at the expense of others—and lead us to the desire to bestow.

In such a way, we will become corrected, i.e., we will acquire the desire to bestow in place of our egoistic desire, and come to feel the spiritual reality.

We currently feel the corrupted corporeal reality in our egoistic desires, a reality of short-lived, transient pleasures and incomplete perception. By discovering the spiritual reality, we will also be able to feel an endless world, an eternal and perfect life above our existence.

The trigger to activate such a revelation is our own request for it: that we ask the Creator to elevate us to the spiritual reality. He expects and awaits such a request from us. That is why there is no action in our entire lives more important and special than prayer, i.e., turning to the Creator to help us exit our self-centered desire and to connect with each other. Moreover, to the extent that we connect with each other, with the Creator’s quality of love and bestowal illuminating in our connection, we likewise connect with the Creator. That is actually of utmost importance in our lives.

Michael Laitman, On The Times of Israel: “1,000s of People Open Their Hearts into One Giant Heart”
We are currently in the midst of our World Kabbalah Convention taking place with over 2,000 participants from over 30 countries in Petah Tikva, Israel, and with thousands more virtual participants all over the world.

The theme of the convention is opening our hearts. How can we open our hearts as wide as possible to everyone? To open our hearts as wide as possible to everyone, we must recognize that such a gathering as this one takes place within each of our hearts.

At the convention, we focus on directing ourselves to unite our hearts into one, and by doing so come closer to the Creator, the upper force of love and bestowal that reveals itself where our hearts unite. If our goal is to reveal the Creator, then that is the way to do it.

Therefore, those who seek to discover and attain the Creator have no alternative. Humanity, in the end, must traverse a path marked by suffering, challenges, thoughts and desires until we reach a state where the barriers within our hearts dissolve, and we unite as one heart. That is the ultimate objective.

Consequently, humanity progresses from year to year and from day to day, encountering a variety of challenges until it realizes that the only way forward is to combat the egoistic nature that constantly seeks to separate us from each other. In the wisdom of Kabbalah, we learn how the Creator maintains such a state of separation between people in order to give room for our efforts to bridge the divide, and by doing so, we can amplify our connection to the Creator and experience His presence much more profoundly.

Therefore, initially, we observe that each person is primarily focused on their egoistic desires, and there is no choice but to strive for closeness and connection among each other, uniting in a common desire. This is what we refer to as “one heart,” the goal that Kabbalist Baruch Ashlag (the Rabash) wrote to us about.

I remember that after a few years studying with Rabash, I conducted Kabbalah introductory lectures in various locations in Tel Aviv, and several new students came as a result. I invited these students to a gathering, toward which, on one of my daily walks in the park with Rabash, I had asked him, “What should we discuss with them?”

He asked for some aluminum foil from a cigarette pack I had. I gave it to him.

He then proceeded to write his very first article titled “Purpose of Society – 1” with the words: “We have gathered here to establish a society for all who wish to follow the path and method of Baal HaSulam, the way by which to climb the degrees of man and not remain as a beast…”

It has been nearly 40 years since that day, but there is no change to the topic. Although many have heard of it, the process and method of correction remain the same as elucidated by ancient Kabbalists even thousands of years ago.

Thousands of people right now are making special efforts to come together as one, to connect their individual hearts into one collective heart. That heart is made up of many different parts, and their connection creates a vessel for the revelation of the Creator, which is one for everyone. In other words, all we need in order to reveal the Creator is for everyone to open their hearts to everyone, that everyone has a place in each one’s heart, then by doing so, we open our collective heart. That is what this convention is all about.

The upcoming convention that will be held at the end of the month is called “Opening the Heart.” How can we prepare ourselves for the convention in order to really feel how we present the Creator with a heart ready to be purified?

Many people from different countries will come to the convention ready to join the global connection in order to feel like one man with one heart. And in this way, we will achieve a great force, and it will be easier for us to draw the Creator to us, as it is said: “My sons have defeated me.”

This convention is another step toward final correction. We can achieve anything we want during it; there are no restrictions on this.

After all, we live in the era of the Messiah, in the so-called “last generation,” and we study according to the correct methodology. Everyone only needs to direct their heart toward the connection with the ten, with hundreds and thousands, and thus all together to connect with the Creator.

We need to understand what it means to be together. After all, the convention is not just a gathering in one hall, but everyone needs to feel that he is ready to provide a place for everyone in his heart and mind.

We are all in a vast ocean filled with the love of the Creator. We only need to open ourselves to feel this love that fills the entire world with its infinite light.

Let us make at least a little effort and open our eyes, open all possible passages into our mind and heart. Especially before the upcoming convention, let us prepare ourselves so that everyone becomes a pipe that conducts the upper light to each friend. Then we will all be completely filled with this light.

Let us prepare for the convention in this form: become one man with one heart in a common embrace so that the Creator fills us more and more with His love.

We just held our World Kabbalah convention where thousands of students and friends gathered worldwide in person in several locations-from Australia to Ukraine, Georgia to Germany, and Argentina to Israel, among many others_and also virtually, to study, connect and delve deeper into convention’s topic, “Everything Is Obtained by the Power of Prayer.”

We chose this topic because nothing can influence humanity’s destiny like the power of prayer.

We learned what our prayer should comprise in order to receive an optimal response, that it should be aimed at reaching a state of wholeness.

We can understand it quite easily as follows: there are two desires in reality, reception and bestowal. By aiming our prayer in a direction of everyone’s harmonious connection, then reality’s guiding force of love, bestowal and connection, which Kabbalists call “the Creator,” will help us. The return to humanity’s state of wholeness is a state that Kabbalists call “as one man with one heart,” our primordial state as our single soul.

This soul underwent a shattering and a descent from its wholeness, which gave rise to our perception of an incomplete, fragmented and transient reality. In order to rise to the state of our single soul before the shattering, we need to undergo a correction of our perception of reality, and the means to do so is through a request—a prayer.

What does that request consist of?

It is us feeling a lack of a complete connection “as one man with one heart,” to feel no difference between people, countries, nations and various other partitions that our ego places between us. Simply put, it is the feeling of a need to be together above the ego’s boundaries in order to give ourselves an increasingly precise opportunity to bring ourselves closer to each other. By doing so, we come to the state of “as one man with one heart,” our connection as a single soul, feeling ourselves as belonging and acting in the spiritual world.

We went through several states at the convention, states of joy from such an immense global connection, as well as states of feeling how the upper light (the force of love and bestowal) acted on us, mixing us together like a salad. However, there was ultimately a feeling that thousands of people around the world acted in a direction to a single goal of harmoniously connecting “as one man with one heart,” with a readiness to connect and feel together above all differences.

If we continue investing in that direction, we will attain the feeling of our complete connection, the laws of the spiritual world, and the perception of how the world is one for everyone. It is my hope that we will come to this sensation soon.

At the close of this wondrous convention, the time has come to thank the Creator for this amazing opportunity, to thank everyone who invested their hearts into the event, and of course, to invite everyone who wishes to be a part of this immense connection experience to participate in our future conventions.

In the News (SciTechDaily): “University of Chicago data and social scientists have developed a new algorithm that forecasts crime by learning patterns in time and geographic locations from public data on violent and property crimes. It has demonstrated success at predicting future crimes one week in advance with approximately 90% accuracy.  …

“‘We created a digital twin of urban environments. If you feed it data from happened in the past, it will tell you what’s going to happen in future. It’s not magical, there are limitations, but we validated it and it works really well,’ Chattopadhyay said. ‘Now you can use this as a simulation tool to see what happens if crime goes up in one area of the city, or there is increased enforcement in another area. If you apply all these different variables, you can see how the systems evolves in response.’”

Question: What do you think about this algorithm?

Answer: It is very good!

Comment: It scans everything and says: “Here there will be a theft and here there will be murder.”

Answer: Yes, according to some data.

Question: You talk all the time about the development of egoism and how it developed historically within time. Knowing this, can we foresee the future of mankind?

Answer: I hope that egoism will not develop the same way. But if this continues, it will develop even more, exponentially, and we will not try to limit it in any way, or correct it, and so on, then, of course, there would be a world war.

Question: So you are saying that our egoism is a criminal and its actions are more or less comprehensible?

Answer: That is absolutely correct.

Question: Does it work for a complete breakdown of the system so that everything is directed at me?

Answer: Yes.

Question: And it only leads to one?

Answer: And if everyone is like you?

Comment: If someone is like me, maybe we will be afraid to get close to each other? We’ll build fences since we understand our nature.

Answer: That has happened already, and then you fail anyway.

Question: So the ending with this criminal is inevitable?

Answer: It is inevitable.

Question: So what is the task? To understand that egoism is a criminal?

Answer: Of course. Everyone is a criminal! All are egoists.

Question: In principle, if this crime gene develops in us, which is embedded in everyone, then basically there is no future?

Answer: Yes, nothing. But the future of the world is known, and it is revealed gradually. That is, we are taught.

It is like we are in a performance that shows us the development of humanity with its egoism on the one hand, and with the methodology of development of coming closer to the right state on the other hand. And at the junction, in some correlation of these two forces on the one hand, and the development of egoism, the need to unite, to connect egoists, on the other hand, that is where we will be shown how all this will happen.

Comment: In this teaching, it is amazing that it does not handcuff the criminal; it somehow works with him in a different way. It does not put him in prison.

My Response: We are already in jail, and we are all criminals.

Question: It comes from the fact that we are already in prison. And the task is not to be put in prison, but to get out of prison. The reverse problem is how to get the criminal out of prison. Right?

Answer: The task is to show the criminal that he is in prison, so that he would want to get out of it, would understand how to do it, and would free himself and everyone else.

Question: Is this what Kabbalah deals with?

Answer: Yes. Until our time, only a few could escape from this dungeon. But in our time, it is no longer like that; it should already be the way out for everyone, for the masses.
