Why Do We Build Walls instead of Bridges?

630.2Comment: Stanisław Jerzy Lec escaped from a concentration camp twice. The first time he escaped, he was caught. The second time he escaped, he was caught again and was given a shovel and told, “Dig your own grave.” He used that shovel to kill the guard, dressed in his clothes, and escaped for good. The rest of his fate is known to us. He came to the Land of Israel, then went back to Poland where he experienced various sufferings, anti-Semitism, and so on. But at the same time, he wrote amazing things.

Please comment on his statement:

“People are lonely because instead of building bridges, they build walls.”

Question: It is so sad and accurate! Tell me, we are always looking for a cure for loneliness, ministers of loneliness, and so on. He writes: “We need to build bridges, and everything will be fine.” Why do we build walls?

Answer: We cannot tolerate each other.

Question: So it is better to build a wall?

Answer: Of course. And a wall is not just a limitation from me but for me as well.

Question: So when I am physically next to someone, I cannot adapt to them, it is hard for me to build bridges. But we should, right?

Answer: Yes. But how? I have not learned how to do this. I just see over the years that only life, as explained by the Torah, will probably lead to this.

Question: Only follow the Torah?

Answer: Yes.

Question: Then can you say in one sentence what it means to follow the Torah?

Answer: Always, little by little, getting closer to everyone.

Question: To everyone? To enemies, to non-enemies?

Answer: Absolutely everyone.

Question: What happens to me then?

Answer: It changes you. It changes your DNA.

Question: Even my whole genetics?

Answer: Yes, all your genetics.

Question: So, just keep aiming in that direction?

Answer: Yes.

We Should Become Transparent

Earth Can Be Heaven

From the Development of Religions to the Revelation of Kabbalah

560To rise from our animalistic, egoistic level, we need to strive for the next level—the altruistic human being.

We can achieve this either through immense suffering that forces us to reach the goal or through our own efforts when we know what lies ahead and understand the forces of nature at our disposal. Then we can help ourselves and bring ourselves to absolute coexistence.

Question: Should the aspiration to the higher degree, to the Creator, be like fuel throughout this stage? Otherwise why would 90% of egoists suddenly want to change their nature and care for society more than for themselves? They need some motivation. Can the upper force be this motivation?

Answer: Of course.

Question: But how can this happen if it has not been manifested until now? Even religions have not helped although they claim that the Creator is goodness and love.

Answer: Religions operate on a very low level. Moreover, they have already disqualified themselves if I may say so.

Comment: But in the early stages, they really did help humanity; otherwise, we would be like animals.

My Response: Yes, without religion we could not have existed; that is clear. Then began the thousand-year long process separation of religion from progress, from the changes in mankind, up to the creation of educational institutions where natural sciences and Kabbalah are studied.

Today, we have reached a state where we can calmly explain to all people on Earth, without any prohibitive restrictions, what Kabbalah is, why it is needed, how to master it, and what can be achieved with its help.

Expression of Kabbalistic information

235Question: Do you ever have moments when you are surprised that you give out certain information?

Answer: Yes, it happens that I can easily express some information. It is a muse; it is simply a human property.

There are Kabbalists who could do it amazingly. I envy them a lot. After all, if I weren’t a teacher, I would float at my level and would be trying to rise all the time. But since I have to simplify the information I receive to the level of my students, I envy those who have fluent language.

But I was specially given a very difficult and complex Hebrew. I generally do not have a good grasp of languages; I have an absolute inaptitude for them. It’s hard for me in this regard.

Therefore, if I succeed, it is like a birth, like labor pains, when you can finally give out some information. When you feel that it has entered a person, he understands it, and all the information has smoothly jumped out of you like an embryo jumps out along with waters during a successful childbirth, then it certainly gives a lot of pleasure. You are amazed about the extent of it that came from above.

I clearly understand that everything is given from above because with my qualities that I also received from above, I am not capable of expressing my thoughts easily. There are even more problems here. Even if I had this ability, Kabbalistic information is still clothed in more or less convenient forms depending on how much the student needs it.

After all, there are circumstances when there is a need to confuse a student a little, give him an opportunity to unravel the tangle by himself. Then he will start using his brain and will sense that he still lacks his own efforts. Therefore, I not only make my presentation dependent on the lack of an opportunity to present the material normally, but also on the fact that the student does not need a more explicit presentation, he must figure it out himself.

Let’s take The Book of Zohar. It is written in a very confusing language, although it in principle it is close to our style. This is amazing! The book was written 2,000 years ago, but it talks about things that are very easy for us to communicate today. It is interesting. Although it is incomprehensible, its style is close to us.

When I was working on it, adapting it to the modern reader, I practically did not have to do anything special. I translated it from Aramaic to Hebrew, removed various additions, clarifications, references to other sources, outside commentaries, etc. in order to make the text more readable.

Practically, the whole task in Kabbalah is to adapt the spiritual material for the consumers, for the students.

Make the 9th day of Av a Holiday

293Question: What can be done to make the ninth of Av not a day of mourning? What state must we reach for it to become a holiday?

Experience Imprinted In the Souls

294.4Question: According to Baal HaSulam, humanity is divided into the enterprising and the laggards who make up the majority. Regardless of the social system, a small part of the enterprising will always exploit the laggards.

Why is there such a division? How can this be related to the purpose of creation?

Answer: Such inequality is based on the correspondence of a person with those periods that he must go through in his development in order to achieve the goal of creation. It depends on generations, on the degree of connection between people, and is a process of correction.

That is, we must be in different states in order to gain some kind of life experience.

Question: Does it have to be imprinted in every soul?

Answer: Yes, and it needs to be able to be directed correctly.

The Orbit in which the World Revolves

222Many a zero thinks it is the ellipse around on which the Earth travels (Stanisław Jerzy Lec).

Question: Today is a time when it seems that many zeros are sure that they are the orbit in which the world revolves. Why is a person given this feeling of “I am the orbit in which the world revolves. Am I building the world”?

Answer: Yes, I build the world. Why is it given? So that a person realizes what a low creature they are.

Question: That this is not exactly so?

Answer: Yes.

Question: What, in your opinion, should be the feeling of a true leader?

Answer: He should feel that he does everything to set a correct example for his people.

Question: What is the correct example?

Answer: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”

Question: Should he live like this in relation to his people?

Answer: Yes.

Question: Have you seen such leaders? Were there ever such leaders?

Answer: I hope so. It is not noticeable from the outside. I think there were such leaders.

Comment: Our kings, who were in their time…

My Response: Maybe.

Question: Maybe Solomon and David?

Answer: I do not know.

Question: I see. But is this a true leader?

Answer: Yes.

Question: Will the future leader also be like this?

Answer: Yes.

Question: Will then the world change immediately?

Answer: Of course.

Question: Will the world also become loving?

Answer: Yes.

Question: Does the Creator instill such leadership in a person?

Answer: Of course. Who else?

Division into 600,000 Souls

548.02The Creator created only one thing—something that does not exist in Him and can ostensibly exist outside of His essence.

This something is called creation; it is the desire to receive and be filled and is opposite to the Creator. This is our embryo called “Adam,” from the word “like the Creator” (Edomeh), which is similar to Him in that it comes from the Creator. It is opposite to Him in properties, but similar in expression.

Adam is the property of receiving that exists only as a bestower. The Creator created the desire to receive, but this desire manifests as completely annulled relative to the Creator—an embryo, a point of Bina in the upper light.

And then it divided into many parts and each particle of this property Bina became opposite to the Creator and the light that created it.

As the property of bestowal is divided, it is distanced from the Creator since many different properties that are similar to the Creator in their original form, begin to separate in their similarity and differ from each other. Everyone wants to give to the Creator as He wants to give to them, but everyone is different from the others.

It is how what is called the 600,000 basic parts arise since the system called Zeir Anpin consists of six parts each of which or all together are at the level of 10,000; this is the level of Keter of the world of Atzilut. Thus it is considered that there are 600,000 of them.

In Kabbalah, there is no concept of parts. Spirituality is not divided into parts, but differs from each other in its power. Therefore, when we say that the soul was divided into 600,000 parts, we do not mean quantitatively, but qualitatively, i.e., the level of that spiritual object that the Creator created at the level of “Keter of the world of Atzilut.” It is to this state that we must reach in our correction.

Our World Is the Lowest Egoistic Level

944You lack nothing but to go out to a field that the Lord has blessed, and collect all those flaccid organs that have drooped from your soul, and join them into a single body (Baal HaSulam, Letter 4).

When our collective soul shattered, it fell to the very bottom—the level of our world. When we are engaged in correction we do not look at male and female bodies, we mean the correction of people.

The inanimate, vegetative, and animate nature does not concern us in our spiritual work. We use it because we need to live, and this justifies its existence. But in the future, we will see on spiritual levels how everything that exists can be used—all atoms of the cosmos and everything created in the universe—because it all belongs to the collective soul.

For now, we must understand that our work in correcting the only desire created by the Creator is at the lowest, most primitive level where we initially found ourselves.

Therefore, we must unite to help each other attain increasingly higher states with greater qualitative and quantitative connection, mainly in the quality of our connections. This is the meaning of being at the lowest egoistic level, the level of the world we perceive.

As soon as we begin forming more complex structures from ourselves, interconnected by good forces, we will perceive, not the egoistic form of this world, but its more altruistic form, called the spiritual world.
