Let’s Go to Pharaoh—Together!

294.2There is no need to strive to correct the world, that is, to correct ourselves; we only need to study the actions that the upper light performs on us. As it was said by the Creator to Moses: “Let’s go to Pharaoh!”

Moses is small and scared; this quality in a person is very weak. And against him stands a huge monster—all of creation, the whole world, in whose hands is all the power, all the food, all the oxygen.

I get all this from Pharaoh, this is my whole reality! And some small property rises up against it, a tiny desire (who is he anyway?) that wants to escape and get out from under this power and start living in another world!

We hardly feel such an opportunity to rise up and get out of our egoism. We do not know where to go at all, where to escape from this Egyptian slavery!

But the Creator tells us: “Let’s go to Pharaoh”—together! And Moses, like a little child, takes the adult by the hand, and they walk together.

All that is needed from the human side is consent, a request, a demand, to the Creator for help. He does not have to fight the evil himself.

But people do not understand this and think they can do something themselves. He is a fool who thinks he is a hero.

This is where all religions and supposedly “spiritual” techniques stumble, because the left side (egoistic desires) is given to us precisely in order to adhere to the right; after all, this is the whole purpose.

115.05Achieving unity with the Creator is only possible by emerging from exile. Exile is the feeling of being disconnected from the Creator, a lack of unity.

But how can I know what unity is in order to feel that I am not in it now, to yearn for it, to cry, and to desire nothing else but to leave this state?

After all, my current state does not seem so bad to me. I do feel a certain lack of fulfillment in life, but I cannot say that I suffer greatly because of it. This is not what we call exile.

Exile is the state opposite to unity; it is when I suffer only from its absence and feel this lack as unbearable pain, piercing me to my very core. But how can I reach such an acute need?

This is the same question Abraham asked: “How can I be sure that my descendants will inherit the land of Israel?” The word “land” (Eretz) means desire (Ratzon). So, how can I attain such a desire that will be entirely directed toward bestowal?

After all, all my desires are aimed at egoistic reception, and there is only one small point in my heart called “Abraham,” which is the beginning of a corrected desire from which a new approach is born, a question. And the Creator answers him: “Do not worry, I will send you into exile.”

And then Abraham is at peace, because he understands that no matter what happens, he will inevitably come to such suffering from the lack of unity with the Creator that from it he will inevitably reach unity. That is, a person realizes that he has no choice; he must find the desire, the need, for unity with the upper force.

For this, he has to fall under a foreign rule, one that is opposite to the Creator. This power will gradually reveal itself to him, step by step, as something completely unbearable. At first, it will even seem good to him, not burdensome at all, like a light cobweb.

He will enter Egypt and begin working for his egoism because a famine has begun in the land of Israel (in his desires for the Creator). Joseph descends into Egypt, and then the entire house of Jacob follows—meaning the whole person, with all his desires and intentions, both good and bad, sinks into his egoism and feels comfortable in it!

This is no longer just a minor ego but the complete opposite of unity with the Creator, of spirituality, of bestowal and love.

It all begins with the hatred that flared up among the brothers and the selling of Joseph into slavery. Thus, all of a person’s desires begin to develop within his egoism, and he does not yet feel that this is bad. He is doing well—these are the seven years of abundance.

Even if I feel that I am somehow opposite to the Creator and find myself in the egoistic Egypt, I do not feel bad there at all.

And so, we naturally develop until we begin to build the cities of Pithom and Raamses. For Pharaoh, for our egoism, these cities symbolize a good life. But for our point in the heart that starts to awaken, this life becomes bitter.

I feel that these are miserable and wretched cities. I have nothing in them, only emptiness. Even if I derive some pleasure from this life, I later bitterly regret it.

Thus, I come to cry out over my meaningless existence.

I see that I am trapped in a mindset where I try to measure everything with my intellect and egoistic feeling, that is, with the impure force (Klipa), consisting of knowledge (in the mind) and reception (in the body).

I feel how it is destroying me and constantly demanding confirmation from reason that I am winning, succeeding, not failing, progressing, and that I am always gaining something! Such is the demand of my egoism.

But on the other hand, I begin to realize that this egoistic approach is simply burying me in Egypt, and I do not want to remain there. This was not the purpose of my life.

And then I begin to search for a way to break free from the rule of this Pharaoh—knowledge and reception. I seek new concepts that are above this.

Gradually, I discover that there is a quality called Israel (Yashar-Kel, straight to the Creator), which is higher than knowledge and sensation in my desire for pleasure, higher than beneficial fulfillment and egoistic reasoning.

Above this there is another state, whose “head” is called faith and whose “body” is bestowal.
This is the soul, which differs from the egoistic body based on knowledge and reception.

Thus, as a result of my work, and precisely thanks to the Pharaoh who is being revealed to me, I begin to value and elevate the desires for bestowal above the desires for reception and to prefer faith over reason.
And as soon as I begin to work in this way, an even stronger rule of Pharaoh is revealed within me.

Previously, I did not know that he was such a cruel ruler from whom I needed to flee. Moses (within me) flees from Pharaoh to the land of Midian and must hide there for 40 years, meaning that in a person, the power of bestowal grows against Pharaoh.

It is still small, unable to overcome him, but the person already understands that he must somehow fight the egoism that brings him harm.

Here he realizes that he needs the help of the Creator, and the Egyptian plagues begin.

He feels how the blows strike the Pharaoh, and through them, his Moses becomes separated from him, preparing to lead the entire nation, all the desires.

Thus, the Creator’s promise is fulfilled: that the descendants of Abraham will be exiled in a foreign land, oppressed for 400 years and will emerge from there with great wealth.

This is the very desire that has grown in Egypt thanks to Pharaoh through all this struggle.

We do not take Pharaoh himself out of Egypt, but we take from him those desires for which we have fought, and we bring them out by faith above reason.

It is in these desires that we have felt exile (Galut)—and in them, we wish to experience redemption (Geula), the revelation of the Creator.

All our work in Egypt is to discern the difference between the magnificent cities built for Pharaoh and their misery for our desire to break free from him—to distinguish Pharaoh as the “help against you,” and the helper with whom you go to Pharaoh—that is, the Creator.

You see how they stand opposite each other while the person stands in between and asks the Creator to resolve each state.

Everything Is Relative to a Person

437Question: If the past does not exist, why do I see old buildings?

Answer: All of this exists within you. If you were not here, then none of it would exist.

Comment: If I tell someone: “This is all inside me. You are a part of me,” they will think I am crazy.

My Response: That is natural. Even if you explain that physicists or philosophers propose similar theories, they will still say the same thing. What Kabbalah speaks about closely resembles some philosophical or physical theories. There is nothing unusual about it.

Understand that there is no way around it. What “seems” to a person or not does not matter. There is reality, and that is what we are discussing. Our corporeal reality exists only relative to us. If our qualities change, reality will change as well.

Scientists already write that time exists as an objective reality only relative to us. There is nothing truly objective. Everything is relative to us. Physicists directly speak about time flowing forward, backward, in any direction, or not existing at all. If time does not exist, then what is left? That means nothing exists at all.

Loss of Consciousness

928Comment: Once when you were talking about bestowal you said that reception does not exist.

My Response: Yes, indeed, reception does not exist.

It exists only in our imagination, in our fantasy. Therefore, our entire world is imaginary, unreal, because there is no such force or property as “reception.” It manifests itself as if in a state of loss of consciousness.

In other words, to the extent that we are in a loss of awareness of true existence, to that extent we exist as if in a dream, in an unconscious state in which we imagine our life in reception, in accumulation.

It is only our clouded consciousness that represents everything to us in this way. It is as if you are asleep, and this world is depicted to you in your dream.

As it is said in the Psalms that when a person returns to connection with the Creator, he reveals that he was asleep.

How to Embrace the Spiritual Field?

956Comment: When you describe spiritual images, you say that at present we perceive ourselves in a completely different way. But when you explain this, you still try to put it in some form.

Answer: Otherwise, how would I be able to reproduce it?

Question: Suppose I asked you how spirituality can be conveyed? In a visual sense, this is difficult to do. But maybe there are some allegories or categories?

Answer: I convey it with words such as, for example, “field.”

Question: By “field,” do you mean waves, vibrations in the air?

Answer: No, it is a kind of a space filled with something, and you move within it. Depending on where you are in this space, you detect its new properties each time.

And then you begin to understand that this happens not because you are moving and thus detect its properties, but because these movements are, in principle, your own, while the field is constant, and there is nothing else in it but love.

Question: But this field is infinite. And I am like an element that can move within it?

Answer: Yes, some kind of finite element, a detector.

Question: But how can you embrace the entire field while being a small element?

Answer: Even if you are very small, when you acquire the same quality of love as the field, then there will be no barrier between you, and you will feel yourself fully sensing it, comprehending it, merging with it.

The Past Does Not Exist

419Comment: You claim that everything that was in the past, all of history, everything we see, as if never existed. But I look at old ruins and see that they seem so real that I cannot say they never existed.

My Response: Everything is genuine indeed! But all of this is within your awareness! This is what “genuine in my mind” and “genuine in my sensation” mean.

Question: But did it exist?

Answer: There is no such thing as “it existed or not.” Time does not exist at all. There is an objective reality given to us in our sensations. It turns out that reality is given to us in our sensations. Marxists put it correctly. No matter how you look at it, they were truly right. And Kabbalah supports this view. Moreover, it has been saying this for thousands of years!

Question: How should I relate to this? Why are people so fascinated by history, historical films, and historical events?

Answer: Because it all seems to be about us! People don’t really want to know about the present because it is very limited. It is always concerned more about the past or the future. The present is just a moment. Life is a moment between the past and the future. Therefore, we exist between the past and the future, and we’re interested in it.

The past is interesting because it defines the future. The past itself is interesting in the future: “Where am I from? Why me? Who am I?” This all speaks about me personally, about things I do not know because it seems I was not there then. But all of it relates to me.

In other words, if I want to understand something about myself today, I can better understand it if I knew where I came from, what defines me, who made me, who has been nurturing me for thousands of years, where, and so on. Therefore, people are interested, society is interested, every country is interested in its past, either to hide it or to reveal it (which is already politics).

The future is also unknown to anyone. Naturally, it is interesting. The present is transient. It consists of the past and the future.

But Kabbalah does not speak of time at all. It claims that time itself does not exist, and there is only the past and the future, which also do not exist just like the present. That is, I feel all of this.

But objectively, outside of me, there is no time, no sensations, no events. There is only one reality—the creation completely filled by the Creator. And this creation gradually undergoes internal changes in the revelation of the Creator.

Gradual revelation of the Creator to His creation is the course of all that exists. Moreover, this gradual revelation occurs within the creation and nowhere else.

It is divided into several stages. One of the stages is the unconscious revelation of the Creator when a a peron appears and unconsciously develops on the earth.

The next stage is when in our time, a person begins to work with this and can consciously reveal the Creator. He is pushed to this by his state, and Kabbalah helps him in this.

Enter a Fairy Tale

252Happiness is when a person has a true goal, and in this goal, he cannot be disappointed in any way and at any time because it is true, eternal, and perfect. Then a person clearly moves toward it.

Despite the fact that there are always questions from here and there, these questions are precisely so that he constantly directs himself toward this goal. And then everything will be fine.

Question: But you say this as a Kabbalist. Is it the same for an ordinary person?

Answer: Even an ordinary person in our time should already know this.

Question: You mentioned a goal. Is the goal the same for everyone or not?

Answer: The goal is the same for everyone, but who knows this goal? If we knew that everyone had the same goal, we would agree with each other. We would begin to search all together how to achieve this goal.

But now we feel that everyone has their own. Egoism tears us apart and does not allow us to feel that we all must move together toward one goal.

Question: What is this goal?

Answer: The goal is very simple: to attain the meaning of life.

Question: And what is it?

Answer: The meaning of life is to know its meaning.

When I feel the meaning of life, I feel absolutely fulfilled! I know why I exist, I know who guides me, to whom I turn, what I fulfill at every moment of my existence, and where I am going.

New horizons open up before me. I feel like a child who has entered Disneyland. And all this is incredible! It’s all a fairy tale! This is how a person should feel when revealing the plan of the Creator.

Question: Does everyone have their own meaning of life or not?

Answer: A person will enjoy it individually because we are all designed that way. But a person will enjoy that fact that one is constantly connected with others. The revelation of this spiritual “Disneyland” comes from the fact that we are increasingly revealing integral connections between us. And they will be revealed precisely as the attainment of the upper world.
