Cheerful on the Outside, Serious on the Inside

938.03 Question: When we gather together we must be serious and have the correct intention. But if our friends behave frivolously, joke, and laugh, what should our actions be?

Answer: We don’t need to sit and cry. We must think about the goal, why we have gathered, and how we can unite, because the goal can be achieved only through unity. If we have fun at the same time, that is also good.

Maybe seriousness is within us. The main thing is the internal work of each person: why is he or she here, for what does one unite with friends? It is even better if we are very serious on the inside and funny on the outside.

Question: How can you discern whether joy is distracting or true?

Answer: Everyone should ask themselves this. Rabash writes that friends should be cheerful on the outside but very serious, burning inside.
