“Does the brain solve problems while we sleep?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: Does the brain solve problems while we sleep?

Our brain never stops running. It only completely shuts down when we die.

While we sleep, we do not absorb external interfering impressions from our five senses, and so our brain organizes the various impressions it previously received according to an assortment of levels and connections, and it also makes room for future impressions that will enter the following day.

When we are asleep, we subconsciously scrutinize situations we went through and organize them for the next day. We might not feel such phenomena the next day, but they pass through, act and prepare us for it. The next day we wake up as new people with different impressions from the previous day. Even if we might not feel them, they nonetheless accumulate gradually.

In such a way, at each and every moment, we become new people as a result of this mechanism that scrutinizes what we went through. It supplements what we previously had and prepares us for the next day.
