Kabbalists On Perception Of Reality, Part 14

Dr. Michael LaitmanDear Friends, please ask questions about these passages from the great Kabbalists. The commentaries in brackets are mine.

All Changes Are in the Desire, Not in the Light

We can only speak on the basis of our sensations, to the degree that we are impressed by the impact of the Light that fulfills us and is aroused by “His desire to do good to His creations,” and to the degree that it reaches the receivers.

Similarly, when we examine a table our sense of touch feels it as something hard. We also discern its length and width, all according to our senses. However, that does not necessitate that the table will appear so to one who has other senses. For example, in the eyes of an angel, when it examines the table, it will see it according to its senses. Hence, we cannot determine any form with regard to an angel since we do not know its senses.

  1. Desire is a strange thing to become conscious of: The Torah speaks of “when the desire comes”, meaning the “desire for the upper world”, it will speak: Our lower desires speak to us but the “desire from above” will also speak to us: We become ready for this desire by coming to the disillusionment with our animal desires or five senses as being anything that can fill us up: THE desire of the ages or the desire for spirituality is like a hunger we have no idea about till it comes and then it is true what is written. We will desire the Torah like we are famished for it. The problem with trying to want what you don’t want is that you can’t IMAGINE its taste so you give up trying to want it. Once you taste the true desire, you will understand why the sages could spend so much time tasting the Lord and finding that he is good:
