Reveal, Correct, Fulfill

Dr. Michael LaitmanOnly two elements exist in reality: the Creator and the creature. Ultimately, the creature feels the abundance the Creator gives to it. And if the creature changes, it happens because the Creator changes it whether for the best or the worst, in all different forms, depending on subjective sensations.

We give different names to the Creator’s influence upon the creature: “judgment” and “mercy,” “good” and “evil,” according to what is being revealed to us. One way or another, all these definitions do not go beyond good and evil because they are conditioned by our desire to receive pleasure.

There are simply many forms of good and evil since the desire for pleasure consists of different levels. The Light has imprinted different forms in it with its influence. This is why we divide the Creator’s influence into three types:

  • the Light that reveals the vessels;
  • the Light that corrects the vessels;
  • the Light that fulfills the vessels.

This is the order: revelation, correction, fulfillment. This process consists of many stages inherent to every desire and groups of desires that are included in one another. They are all distinguished according to their level of Aviut (coarseness) in depth and power, and their mixing evokes thousands and thousands of responses in us.

For example, a part of my desire is in the stage of revelation, another part is going through correction, and the third part already might be fulfilled. Correlations of desires are so diverse and change so much that we experience a countless amount of reactions and sensations. They form the image of the world where we exist.

In the end, we only perceive the manifestation of the force of desire, broken into many pieces in our perception. Naturally, we are unable to control desires, their groups and combinations, and especially the stages that we experience. This is why in our advancement we only need to strive toward the greatest closeness to the Creator, the property of love and bestowal, toward unity.

We evoke the Light, its strength, and its manifestation through this aspiration. As it approaches us, we go through the stages of revelation, correction, and fulfillment in our desires.

Believing The Sages

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: How do I combine and properly arrange the three types of desires that I experience here at the lesson: 1) the artificial desire caused by the need to ask for correction for the environment, 2) the artificial desire to place myself in a field that will influence me, and 3) my actual desire to rid myself of the small corporeal problems that appear big to me?

Answer: We need to believe the sages who say that when a person works systematically and with determination, his efforts accumulate into great wealth. There is no other choice: Just keep making the effort.

The results that will come as a consequence will explain and show you everything. There is no answer for you on the path when you do not feel, understand, or are unable to connect anything. You just need to continue.

Right now, you are unable to connect your relationship with the world and the group with your success and with everything that happens, and you don’t link the Creator and Kabbalah with your desire to rid yourself of problems and suffering. Moreover, Kabbalists do not go around promising that Kabbalah will help you free yourself from problems and suffering.

In reality, we have nothing to say to a person who studies Kabbalah. We can only bring him to the realization of the importance of the goal with the help of the group. He will only see the goal when the Light comes and corrects him.

This is because one cannot see anything pleasant and good for his egoism in the spiritual world with egoistic eyes. You can keep telling yourself that this will help you become free of all problems and that you will acquire the world, but this is not the way to advance.

Connect yourself as much as you can to the environment every moment of your life so that it will influence you as much as possible and you will have to connect to it even more. You will receive strength through that.

Establishing Balance Between Countries

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe uncontrollable printing of money and financial tyranny has a limit, and I think it’s near. Equilibrium in the global world will demand us to start establishing balance between countries. That is, everyone, albeit egoistically, will be able to use the same very forces that he or she produces.

Therefore, the countries living at the expense of others must come down since such an imbalanced situation as we have today cannot exist in the global world. They will be facing very serious crises. I don’t know in what form they will manifest. It could be as natural phenomena such as environmental disasters. After all, all levels of nature, the still, vegetative, animate, and speaking, are parts of the same single system.

The law of nature, the Creator, must bring us to the equivalence of form, and prior to anything else, it has to make us a more or less uniformed, integral system, meaning that we will have to reach a certain internal equilibrium between us, all countries and nations.

This is why we are going to face great changes. Even now, we are witnessing the currency wars that will keep increasing ever more.

Money Is A Covering For Desire

Dr. Michael LaitmanA brief look at the history of money: Money is an ancient invention; we know of coins that circulated as early as 650 years BCE. In the beginning, money was evaluated by weight and cost of the metal itself, but metal coins were gradually replaced by paper bills. At the start of the 17th century, Europe was already printing paper money.

Up to this day, money remains in the center of everybody’s attention and causes numerous arguments while traveling from hands to hands and serving as a medium of connection between people. What is the cause of such advanced use of money?

There are only Light and desire (Kli) that we need to tie together. This connection appears due to the fact that each conceals their ego under a screen that is called a “covering” (Kisufa). “Money” (Kesef) derives from this word. If I have a covering on my desires and hence am able to use them correctly, it means that I possess a screen, a covering, “money.”

As a result of this action in our world, as the reflection of the spiritual root in the material branches, there is a rule in our world that any reception must be preceded by an effort. This work is what creates the covering on desire. The degree of my willingness to work for the sake of some desire determines the extent of its eventual fulfillment.

In the ancient times, people worked solely to eat, similar to animals that are searching for food all day long and live for the animate body’s needs: food and procreation. Money is the most natural object, and even if there isn’t any and a person is face to face with himself, nature, or the Creator, he still pays with his effort to satisfy the desires. After all, during this work, new desires emerge in him, to fulfill which he needs to work, in order to build a screen, a covering over them.

Therefore, the need to have money, the screen, appears at the moment when desire emerges. Over the course of the entire history people constantly bartered: “You give me this, I give you that,” paying if not with money, then at least with a smile, gratitude, good attitude. There is no chance to take something from someone having not paid. We either pay voluntarily or forcefully, following regulations accepted in the society. And if we don’t, then the upper system will definitely clean up our debts in the end and return the balance to the merchant.

My Good Environment – Dr. Laitman’s Advice for the Week

Egoism’s Traps

Dr. Michael LaitmanWe are controlled by egoistic desires, vessels of reception, although we do not know what this is. That’s because everything is attained from comparison; the advantage of Light is attained from darkness.

Nevertheless, once we receive a little bit of Light, we begin to feel that there is another form of existence besides vegetating in egoism. There is life in bestowal.

Only the Light creates these desires or Kelim in us, and inside of them this anticipation or weak sensation emerges. Then we begin to form a certain anticipation of bestowal. However, it only surfaces on the condition that a person can correctly place himself before this picture.

Right now this egoistic desire pulls me into its bosom. That is why I have to absorb the importance of the goal from the environment by attracting Light and taking steps toward it in spite of my desire.

After that, obstacles of a different sort are placed before me: I am shown what kind of pleasure is concealed in bestowal. Then I have to be salvaged from another danger: from falling into Klipa, which says, “Let’s enjoy bestowal. Do something for the sake of bestowal. And now do some more, and then some more….” Thus, exceeding the limits of my abilities, I begin to feel egoistic pleasure from bestowal. After all, enormous Lights become revealed to me instead of the thin glow we feel in our world.

That is how I become overtaken by a state that Kabbalistic books call “impurity” or “the fire of hell.” Today our egoism is giving us only a small challenge, not allowing us to come close to bestowal. But later on we will make our way into the worlds of impurity which will have to be corrected to bestowal. There, we will discover a cunning force, a great egoistic desire that opposes the Creator. It tells us, “Bestow, do as the Creator does. There is great pleasure contained in that act.” Will we be able to keep our footing in the face of it?

Right now we are placing a “screen” (Masach) against our receiving desire, whereas later on we will build real screens against the Light, against the pleasure of bestowal rather than reception.

Freedom Is Born From Love

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What is the middle third of Sefira Tifferet and why is it called free?

Answer: It’s as if it doesn’t exist by itself. As Baal HaSulam says, it exists only as the place over which Klipa and holiness fight.

This is the place where a person experiences himself and his independence. It is where he has his inner struggle and doubts: what to identify himself with, the upper or the lower? This is called the middle third of Tifferet, the place of free choice.

Question: What is this part made of? And how does freedom of choice become revealed there if this part is influenced by the upper one or the lower one, depending on whom it identifies itself with? Then where is the independence?

Answer: That is how the place of freedom is arranged for a person from Above. This is not confusion or lack of clarity the way freedom in our world refers to the absence of precise knowledge of what to identify yourself with. Rather, in the middle third of Tifferet it is absolutely clear to me what the quality of bestowal is above and what the quality of reception is below. I am in the middle, and this middle is all of me. That is to say, all of my reality is the middle part of Tifferet.

Wherever I am under the influence of the upper one or the lower one, I feel their influence, meaning I feel them and do not relate this to myself. But in the middle third of Tifferet I reveal the full HaVaYaH, myself. This part contains the full ten Sefirot, the discernments of the entire Partzuf.

If I want to attain the upper one, then I ascend to the upper part, and if I want to attain the lower one, then I descend to the lower part. But who am I? This is the middle part of Tifferet, like a thin layer between the upper and the lower. Yet, in reality it is not thin.

The middle third of Tifferet comes from the fact that in the four phases of the expansion of direct Light, Bina decided that it desires not to receive, but to become similar to the upper one, and to do that it has to attain bestowal. However, it cannot attain bestowal because its matter, the will to enjoy, does not change. In order to make it seemingly bestowing, it has to receive for the sake of bestowal. That is, it uses the Giver’s force of love.

Without the force of the Giver’s love for me, I cannot transform my reception to bestowal to Him. But if I know that He loves me and I plan to receive from Him only for that reason, then I use the force of His love. At first I have to reveal His love, and inside of it to reveal my reception, and then to receive from Him only in order to show Him my love.

From the same field where the second phase (of the four phases of the expansion of direct Light) makes the decision, that is where our notion of the middle third of Tifferet is born, in which creation feels free to make decisions.

The Biggest TV Set In The World

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What does it mean to think about unification of the world? Is it unification of spiritual desires, “the points in the hearts,” or all people in general?

Answer: “A person is a small world.” The world, everything I see and feel, is one single reality tied together. The still, vegetative, animate worlds, and the humans I see, all of this is my internal desires and attributes that I am observing within myself.

Try to delve a little bit deeper and you will begin to see how it all works within you and that it is indeed so. After all, this is your internal system. It is as if I am looking at the computer screen and simply view a demonstration, a reflection, a small manifestation of what is occurring within. This is how man is constructed as well.

Hence, we need to exit “this world,” tear away from this super TV set with an enormous, record-number-of-inches widescreen monitor and 3D/stereo display, and get inside our own system: inside the “memory” and “processor,” inside all our programs, everything we have within. And then, you will reach the spiritual, upper world from where everything descends.
