Noah’s Ark for Humanity

115It is known from the science of Kabbalah that as a result of all our development in this world within the framework of beliefs and religions, in the field of technology, public and social life, in the field of government and international relations, we must come to complete disappointment in this development, stop and admit: “We do not know what to do next.” We tried to achieve something, to fulfill our desires, and we did not achieve anything. This endless race has led to nothing.

Of course, when a person sums up such a result for himself, he is not happy about it. But it is precisely this anxious state that makes him stop and think about what to do next.

But it is precisely this anxious state that makes him stop and think about what to do next. Then, in hopelessness and impotence, he begins to discover that there is another form of development. But it cannot be revealed until a person has reached complete disillusionment with the present and hopelessness in the future in this whole life, given to us supposedly by chance on this globe where we live like animals, without understanding why and what for. And indeed, if you look at us from the outside, from anywhere in the universe, our whole life on this planet will seem very strange, because we consistently destroy ourselves. For what?

When pondering, “Why do I need this whole life,” a person begins to realize that he needs a guide who could guide him and direct him along the way. And then he comes to the true books, whose authors have already comprehended a new form of life, not on the thin, fragile layer of the Earth’s crust covering this planet where we exist in complete dependence on it in everything, but life in a completely different dimension. After all, besides our Earth, our universe, and other galaxies, there is a breakthrough into another, higher dimension.

Of course, this requires a guide who will guide us along the way. But it is as if all of humanity is in Noah’s Ark, which must now break away from this world and break into the next dimension.

This guide is a special force from above, which The Zohar calls the “donkey driver.” Donkeys, Hamorim, (this is us), from the word “Homer” (material, the desire to enjoy), which needs to be developed, that is, to lead forward, showing him how to achieve a different form of existence.

Therefore, “The Donkey Driver” is a special article in The Book of Zohar. As we read this article, we should try to connect with this force, our driver, who leads us forward, provided that we can grab onto him and want to follow him.

The Zohar allegorically tells of this force, the donkey driver, as a man who goes ahead of those people whose donkeys he leads, pricking them with a sharp stick to keep them moving forward. After all, the donkey understands only one thing: it hurts, it goes forward; it does not hurt, it stops. This is how our material behaves.

And that is why we need this external force that will “tingle” us, and then we will need to move forward; otherwise, we will stay in place. After all, we are created out of a desire to enjoy and are not able to “stab” ourselves or summon this force from the outside. How can I willingly bring suffering upon myself?

Therefore, according to The Zohar, this external force is sent to people who are already able to ascend to a higher dimension, and in addition to life in this world that they feel in their body, in their “donkey,” to acquire an additional life, in the spiritual dimension.

This is quite possible, but you need to listen to that donkey driver who is sent from above to every person. This driver awakens within us and moves us. We just need to be sensitive to his actions.
So let’s find it in ourselves and wish to rise up!

“I Love You” Is Not Romantic

627.1Question: There are many stories about men who lived, quiet, grim lives. Even though they have families, they are grim and remote. They never speak a kind word to anyone, but on their deathbeds, they turned to their wives and finally utter, “I love you.”  What can you say about this?

Answer: A person, before death, begins to sense something from the world of truth.

Question: So it is like something is illuminated for him?

Answer: Not only is his future illuminated, but he is freed from the egoism of the past. What is death? First of all, it is the death of our egoism. And whether he gains something after that is another question.

Question: So it is like a boundary between caring only for oneself and stepping into a completely different space? And there is a small truth there?

Answer: It is small, but that is where we begin to grasp it, and a new world opens.

Question: And is this “I love you” the truth?

Answer: Yes, that is where it begins. With the realization that until now you have not loved and what it means to truly love.

Question: So at that moment I feel that I have lived for myself, loved only myself?

Answer: Very much so!

Question: And what is in this final confession, cry, prayer?

Answer: A person realizes that his whole life in egoism was, essentially, wrong. But there are also people who say the opposite: “Drink, smoke, have fun, take everything you can from life.” I am serious. I have heard it: “Do not take anything into account! Fulfill your desires.”

Comment: That is quite a twist, suddenly from the romantic “I love you” to this…

My Response: It is not a romantic “I love you.” It is what a person truly feels. It is not the romantic “love–do not love” feeling.

Question: Is this really the truth shining through?

Answer: Yes.

Comment: And what you just said, the opposite…

My Response: That is also the truth, but the other side of it.

Question: What is behind “I love you”?

Answer: Depends on who says it.

Question: But in general, truthfully, what is behind the phrase “I love you”?

Answer: “I love you” means that I want to feel as though I have no self of my own and existence is only to fill you and rejoice in your fulfillment.

How Can We Make the Necessity for the Creator a Property of the Ten?

942Question: In every word you say, there is a feeling of Hisaron deficiency in relation to the Creator without whom it is impossible to go on living.

Can we make a Hisaron like yours a property of our ten so that it would truly hurt, and not hide it behind some memorized phrases, words, or formulas?

Answer: There is nothing special about my striving for correction. Therefore, if you want, you will be able to connect with each other and with the Creator, with all our friends in the world, raise this Hisaron, and turn it to the Creator. This is what you must do.

Question: But still, how can we make the inner need for the Creator the property of the ten so that it would hurt everyone?

Answer: This needs to be talked about, and then you will connect with each other. In your common aspiration, your common Hisaron, you will be able to collect everything that is lacking and turn it to the Creator. And the Creator will definitely respond to it.

So that the Message of the Creator Becomes Common to All

938.02Question: Yesterday was a very powerful unity day. We all felt that the Hisaron (deficiency) we were experiencing was not ours; it came from the Creator. And then I felt fear that I would not see where I should apply my effort. How should I work with this?

Answer: The fact that you feel you are receiving a desire from the Creator is, of course, not a bad level. But what do you do with it next?

Next, you must connect with the entire worldwide group and somehow pass this on to them from within your desire, not even with words, but through actions. Then this message from the Creator will become common to all.

Answer: Absolutely! Even more effort.

Question: Perhaps I need to change something in my appeal to the Creator? Maybe I am doing something wrong.

Answer: Do not try to fix your past actions. What will be correct tomorrow will fix everything. Never think that in the past you should have done something more.

Where Should We Look for the Creator?

934Question: Why do we keep talking only about the connection between us, and not about the connection with the Creator?

Answer: Right now, we are talking about the realization of our mission, and that is why we devote so much attention to the connection between us. The ultimate goal is adhesion with the Creator according to the law of equivalence of form, which means for us to become a “Man,” “Adam,” that is, similar to the Creator.

To achieve this, we must prepare our spiritual vessel (Kli) by making it similar to the upper one. This Kli must be one for all, where all its parts unite as one man with one heart. It must include all our hatred, jealousy, ambition, pride, and thirst for power, and above all this, we must rise and unite in order to become similar to the Creator and attain adhesion with Him.

We may think that the Creator exists somewhere outside of us, but in the end, He is revealed within the very same common spiritual Kli that we build among ourselves. Therefore, to have the right perspective, we must perceive everything as existing in one place. We are building this place for the revelation of the Creator! It exists exactly where we unite with each other above our egoism.

Our egoism remains below, and above it we build connections between us. And if our connection becomes really strong, based on the power of the light that reforms, then within it we will reveal the Creator (Boreh), which means “come and see” (bo–reh).

It is not that He is somewhere high above in heaven and I am doing something down here to reveal Him up there. I reveal Him precisely within the connection between souls, between the organs of the spiritual body as the inner light that fills it.

But people think that we isolate the Creator from our discussion and talk only about our connection with each other, and this is because inwardly they are not ready to agree that there is a connection between our work, studies, dissemination, uniting with each other—and the Creator.

Each one imagines the Creator as something exalted and is willing to unite with Him, but not with another person. They do not understand that this is the same thing. It is the deeper connection between people, the quality of bestowal that is called “the Creator,” but human nature does not allow one to agree with this…

Connect with the Higher

942Question: You said that from within the ten we can connect to the state of the upper, and even to the upper of the upper. How do we connect to this state?

Answer: We have the ability to be connected with the higher and even with the upper of the upper if we ask for it.

For this, we must have sufficient Hisaronot (desires) to connect to these states. Let’s engage in this, and then you will see how it works.

The ARI Memorial Day

183.02When we mark the Memorial Day (day of passing) of the ARI we commemorate it with a festive meal, in which many students all over the world participate, those who honor this special soul who opened for us the path to spiritual liberation: to exit the final exile and attain the revelation of the Creator.

The revelation of the Creator is the revelation within us of the qualities of love and bestowal that connect us all together. And to the extent that we unite, we will reveal within ourselves the upper force, the higher, spiritual life.

If we speak of the ARI as a man who lived and died, and not as a soul eternally existing in the spiritual realm, then he was the one who threw the end of a rope to us here in this world,  and by holding onto it we can begin to ascend to the spiritual world from our current state.

This is why we are so grateful to the ARI and honor him so greatly. We want to be as close to him as possible because he represents us the desire of the Creator, and thanks to him, we rise.

Baal HaSulam writes that he did not add anything to the teaching of the ARI, but only explained it. Every Kabbalist who came after the ARI developed his teaching a little further; the ARI laid the very foundation of the method of correction.

You might ask what about Abraham, who is called the father of the nation, was it not he who possessed the method of correction? But in the time of Abraham, we had not yet gone through the shattering of the souls, the destruction of the First and Second Temples, nor had the period of exile ended.

The ARI lived at the very end of the era of the last exile; from him onward began the “birth pangs” of the era of redemption, when we must begin to ascend. Therefore, the ARI took all the Kabbalah of the past, the Kabbalah of the Patriarchs and of the time of exile, and from it created the method of the correction of souls. This is why this man is especially dear to us.

Let us hope that we will merit becoming true students of the ARI!
