Labor Pains

Dr. Michael LaitmanHumanity is experiencing labor pains today. This is the birth of a new world. We ourselves discover these external conditions, while nothing changes in the world itself. There are people in the world today who commit suicide because of the financial crisis or because of fears and other problems. But at the same time you can find people who are not worried about anything and don’t feel the crisis at all.

It all depends on how a person discovers the world, but the world itself has no form of its own. Thus we can relax, think that it is all right, and wait until the regular flow of life will bring us somewhere by itself. Or we can also bring ourselves to a state where we will feel that we can’t agree to remain in this state any longer and must finally connect and discover spirituality, which is only revealed in a connection between us.

Everything depends on the pressure that we ourselves create. And then the usual, relaxed reality in which the rest of the people live will seem to us like the darkness of Egypt. We will feel how our enemies, Pharaoh’s troops, push us from behind, and we must jump into spirituality, like into the Red Sea.

Everything depends on how a person perceives his own state and by this leaves himself no choice but to connect with others.

A Global “Wallet”

Dr. Michael LaitmanEuropean countries assumed that by creating a common currency and uniting against America and Russia, they would become the third power. But it turned out that union also involves trust, a feeling of collectivity, mutual participation, common finances, and the disappearance of borders, meaning cultures. In other words, everything is common.

Boundaries can still be removed between countries, but the “wallet” cannot be common. After all, this is the most important! It reflects our feelings and relationships. When do we say that people live together? When they have a “common pot.” This is the way it was in ancient times, and this is the way it is now.

If a husband and a wife have separate bank accounts, they go out to a restaurant, and each pays for himself, is this a real family? But today this is considered to be normal: You pay for this, I pay for that, and this is how we exist.

The process of evolution has led us to a point where we find ourselves connected with one another in the entire world, and not just in Europe. However, people still experience it differently in different places. The world must come to a state where people must treat each other well. This is where the problem is!

We are unable to come to a certain diplomatic agreement with one another. Europe is a good example of this. They just cannot do it! It is necessary to destroy the egoistic connections and build altruistic, meaning, common connections instead. There must be collectivity! And this collectivity must be above all our differences. Here, I am not referring to contradictions. Contradictions must be destroyed, but differences have to remain. Above them, we have to create a collective, which will be called a “common nation”: Europeans. And that is it. Nothing else.

Why should the Spanish, Italians, Greeks, French, Germans, and others feel like they are separate nations? Is it because they have different languages? Their languages will gradually be replaced with just one language or a combination of languages, for example with Esperanto. It does not matter. Nature is obligating us to do it, otherwise we will not be able to fix things.

Humanity’s Voluntary Prison

Dr. Michael LaitmanHumanity will not be able to survive as a species and continue its existence without destroying the egoism that exists between us. Only in this way will we treat Earth as our common home.

We have created an egoistic system of interconnections between us called “economics and finances.” It is a very precise, proper system: you for me and I for you. Everyone deserves what he earns: I am smarter than you and I earn more, so I deserve more; you are weaker, lazier, so you deserve less. “From each according to their abilities, to each according to their labor”—this is democracy. Period.

Why would we provide people according to their needs? I am against it. Everyone will declare their needs, which need to be provided for? No way. Everyone should receive according to their labor, according to their investment. Everything is great and fine….

But we discover that this is not enough. It turns out that by doing this, we disturb a certain balance between us. Today we are not even getting by. A new connection is appearing between us, which is breaking all economic calculations, all financial networks. And we do not know what to do about it.

We see that evolution continues in some new and strange way. What way is that? “The butterfly effect,” meaning everyone affects everyone else.

How do you survive in a world where you depend on everyone else and everyone depends on you? Get a machine gun, climb a tower, and spend your entire life sitting there without ever closing your eyes—and then, hopefully, you will not get shot there? But this is impossible! Hence, we must achieve some new connections between us.

We are coming to a state when our egoism is not only destroying the environment, but is also beginning to consume itself: It destroys the family unit, peace, and one’s entire life.

Man is building a prison for himself with his egoistic attitude towards the world. Work-home, home-work, and that is it; I do not exist anywhere else. In addition, I get television and hamburgers, and this is my entire existence. After work I sit in front of the TV screen, at work I sit in front of a computer screen. There are two screens in front of me and nothing else.

We will not be able to fix our lives today without reaching universal human relations. This is the problem.

The Secret Of Preventing Disasters

Dr. Michael LaitmanWhen one reads about the disasters that happen to us in the newspapers, such as a person falls off the fifth floor of a building  or a gas tank blows up at someone’s house, he does not read about the laws that people fail to follow, but about their consequences. He fails to understand where everything is coming from.

Scientists learn that falling from the fifth floor happens according to the law of gravity, and moreover, the strength of the blow to the ground is enough to kill a person. When you put something flammable next to a gas tank, it can explode because it contains a certain gas, a certain system, and so on. In other words, if we study the laws, we will be able to prevent disasters.

So what are the newspapers writing about? They are writing about the consequences of my lack of knowledge of the laws of nature. People need education, upbringing. Then everything will be fine. Not only will I stop jumping off the fifth floor, touching bare electrical wires, or exploding gas tanks, I will see how I cause hurricanes, tsunamis, and so forth. I will stop cutting down trees just to make myself totally needless toys, and I will stop destroying the coral reefs that are essential for the ocean’s microflora.

If you explain to everyone that we must be in balance with nature, instead of going against its laws, and that this is the only way for us to win, you will become a practical means of mass education.

Methods Of Mass Education Against Mass Media

Dr. Michael LaitmanMass media is a means for “brainwashing,” for creating an absolutely programmed person. Psychological, sociological, and psychiatric studies confirm that mass media influences people’s behavior. It is not mass media, but a means for “mass manipulation.”

What we are doing is called a “means of mass education.” Education! It has to be able to give people a feeling of community and dependence. We are relying on regular healthy egoism, which will show people that they are completely dependent on everyone else. Moreover, we are not misleading them. We are simply showing them the actual picture that egoism conceals from them.

If I really depend on all the other people in the world, but I fail to take this into consideration and have no desire to do so, it’s only because my egoism misleads me on purpose. It gets in the way and forces me to feel bad, which makes me suffer.

A means of mass education raises the sensitivity of my dependence on others, and I begin to feel that I depend on everyone else. Just like we explain to a child who he should and should not play with and what he should be like, so do I, receiving this influence, become more sensitive towards my connections with others and begin to build them according to an entirely different system.

Then I will be able to enter a completely different financial and economic system and overcome the crisis. We will really be able to facilitate the unification of Europe, instead being in a situation where someone lends something to somebody else so that the latter could survive, although in the end, the collapse is inevitable.

I need to feel a greater dependence on one another, not a formal or imaginary one, but the real one that exists in nature and manifests to us as an increasingly greater connection every day. There is a big difference between the way we were connected one hundred, fifty, or even five years ago. We are constantly moving towards an even greater dependence.

I need to receive necessary information, influence from all sides, through all my senses, and actually instead of information and influence, it should be sensation and perception. We need to raise our sensitivity towards dependence on one another, and then we will build completely different social relations.

The Real Work Is Only Just Beginning

What To Do With The Unemployed?

Dr. Michael LaitmanInterconnection between people is based on first attaining a common homeostasis, a balance. What kind of balance? All of us will not consume more than we need. Then, half of the time that you now spend on work will free up. You will do work that people really need.

For example, if you produce refrigerators or washing machines, this is something necessary, good, and normal. If tomorrow we invent another system that consumes less energy, we will replace the old refrigerator model with a new one. In other words, everything must be aimed toward saving electric energy and materials.

All these things can only be calculated based on balance. We eliminate from our lives anything that disturbs balance and is unnecessary. This way, 50-60% of people will become unemployed, and that is great! After all, they are not doing anything good, and they benefit the rest of the people by not working.

So, how will they provide for themselves? It will be in the same way as everyone else. We will only procure the things that everyone needs. Today we procure twenty times more than we need. At the same time, half of humanity is starving. This way, we will procure the exact amount everyone needs to make sure that no one goes hungry.

You say it is not possible? Well, it is! What will everyone have? Half of their workday will free up. So, what will we do with this time? Will we end up killing each other? No, we will not. We will be doing a very simple thing: We will study a way to create balance between us and nature. This is where the methods of mass education will come in handy.

Wishing Everyone An Easy Correction

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Where will the change come from? Will it happen as a result of the pressure people impose on the government to raise the poor to a normal standard of living? However, this would be a forced measure where neither side understands why they are doing it. Or will there be a change in people’s consciousness?

Answer: It does not matter how it is reached. However, the first state on our path toward correction needs to be to make sure that there is no one left hungry and that everyone becomes educated to live in a new world.

Otherwise, if we do not introduce this kind of education, the blows will continue, and our entire path will be through constant suffering and disasters. However, if we guarantee education and bread for all the people, then this will be enough for every person to advance and reach the goal.

I do not know what will make the government turn in this direction. Perhaps, it will be our dissemination or the common crisis that will continue to increase.

It is clear that everything depends on man’s inner changes, but what should we do until people change? We cannot force the poor to wait and go on being hungry. This is why it is necessary to make sure people receive what they need.

You would think it is a good thing that people have problems that force them to protest in the streets because it gives us an opportunity to go to them and tell them about the mutual guarantee. But no, it is the law of mutual guarantee that obligates us to first make sure that everyone has bread.

Thus, if I were the government, I first would realize two top priority programs. First, raise everyone above poverty level. This must be an economic program. Second, provide everyone with an integral education and knowledge of the new world that humanity needs in order to survive today.

This way, we would solve all the other problems, such as in children’s education, the breakdown of the family unit, and the relationships between people. All the corrections will come from a general, integral upbringing that can be divided into many discreet subjects.

Meanwhile, people will pressure the government, and opposite forces will play against each other until we come to the front of the stage and disseminate the method of mutual guarantee so that it becomes deeply ingrained in people. Right now, every side is acting on behalf of its own truth, but none will succeed because nothing can help without a preliminary education for the sake of mutual guarantee and connection. Every side has wonderful arguments, and they seem to be right in their own way. However, at the same time, none is right because none of what they propose is a solution.

We can only agree with one proposition, which is that the first priority is education. After education, we will see what changes need to be made in society. This is because education will provide us with the knowledge of the world we live in. Any reasonable person understands that people need to have knowledge before making any decisions.

These mutual discussions and questions are very beneficial for advancement. After a week or two, you suddenly will discover that you are a different person. You suddenly will begin to think in a more global way and connect to others in a different way. This will become your normal state of mind.

These changes are easy to achieve. Instead of receiving heavy blows, people will change just by listening to an article and discussing it with others. They will enter a new world. This is called correction.

Friends, Don’t Hold The Line!

On A Little Raft

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Which incentives will the new economics provide people with? What will drive them forward?

Answer: We need to create an environment around a person that will turn pleasure, which today seems to be abstract, into “candy.” Everyone says: “This is tasty,” and he begins to look around. Everyone exclaims: “This is great,” and he starts searching. “This is amazing!” and everyone screams with excitement. Then a person begins to suspect that they really have something worthwhile, something that he needs.

This spurs a person forward: “Why don’t I have it? Why am I not in the same position as everyone else?” Social influence is a powerful factor. Ninety-nine percent of all our actions are its consequence. Man came out of a cave and acquired his modern form only due to the environment that constantly goaded and pushed him, pointing to the things he lacked.

In general, the cave was a wonderful, very environmentally-friendly dwelling with a great climate. It has a stable temperature year round. There was meat, fire, and a calm, peaceful atmosphere, which did not inspire any desires other than those for basic needs….

Everything in excess to the animal level is exclusively caused by the environment. Man’s calling to develop agriculture, crafts, and commerce does not appear out of nothing. Society rouses these desires.

And now, with the invention of advertising, we don’t have a choice but to convince the world of the need for a system of education that explains what tomorrow will be like, a system that models what the future will be.

We need to promote the good life. But government is slow to make changes. So what is left for us to do? We are to develop this system on the Internet with our own strengths and spread it via every accessible channel.

I have had meetings with the UN and UNESCO executive representatives, and my opinion remains the same: We must do everything on our own. After all, we can bring the Light that Reforms. In this case, our individualism is not a flaw, but an advantage because we are not limited by external limitations. We can do exactly what we are capable of doing and what we consider necessary. We worry for the success of our enterprise, and in the end, we will simply be obligated to evoke the Light that will flow through the system we have built.

Even if the system appears to be weak, like a little raft on the waves of a virtual ocean, it doesn’t matter. Everyone will hear its call letters because the force of the Light is in it. Let the Light do its work. This is what our approach should be.

Demanding Bread And Education

Dr. Michael LaitmanOur main objective right now isn’t to erase the differences between the richest and the poorest layers of the population. This is the goal for the future.

Right now, we face two urgent issues: The first is to raise everyone’s standard of living above the poverty line, and the second is to oblige everyone to learn about mutual guarantee, the new world, the new economy, the new relationships between people, and the changes that nature is obliging us to make. A university that will teach these things must be built, and studying there must be obligatory, just as it’s obligatory for children to obtain a secondary school education.

I consider these two conditions to be essential. After all, it is written: “If there is no flour, there is no Torah.” But on the other hand, if there is no Torah (the knowledge of the new world), there is no flour. For this reason, people must be educated and given flour, meaning the necessary income. For now, this is all that needs to be done.

I’m often asked what practical advice can be given to a person that has suffered enough and is ready to accept mutual guarantee. How can such a person enter into a new world? This is only possible by gradually educating a person. We can’t just wake up tomorrow and, by some miracle, be in a new world. Everything begins with a person’s inner correction. He has to learn to change by means of studying and through his environment. If many people study, they will come to this state by correcting themselves and influencing one another.

It’s the government’s duty, first and foremost, to provide the nation with the flour and with education. The nation has to demand that the government elevates everyone above the poverty level and educates everyone in the spirit of mutual guarantee. Without these two things, we won’t be able to go forward.

I don’t know where the government will find the necessary funding. The government could take it from the rich or begin saving for it by cutting back on their government officials, it’s up to them. Let’s calculate how much money is needed. It may not be such a large sum. One way or another, the government must provide the nation with the necessities. It won’t be able to play with people as has been done in the past, so it would be better to begin planning ahead of time.

I don’t think it should be an unrealistic amount of money. They should calculate it and figure out whose taxes should be raised and whose should be lowered. There may be a need for a new tax for everyone, except for those below the poverty line. This must be done. How could it be that there are people that don’t have enough for food?

It’s also necessary to teach people, through television programs or workshops, how to manage a household. No matter what their income, people can’t live thoughtlessly and do whatever they want. People have to learn to manage their means. Quite often, people don’t know how to do this.

There are specialists, scientists, economists, and psychologists who can explain how to properly manage money. If one has a certain amount of money for a family to live on for a month, these specialists can calculate how much could be spent and on what. There is an entire academic discipline called family and consumer sciences.

People will listen and become inspired gradually; they will suddenly gain a different attitude toward life. After all, people don’t think too much about what will happen to them tomorrow. We don’t feel it, and we aren’t taught this. Our schools are so removed from real life that they don’t teach the necessary things such as how to treat people, your future husband, wife, and children or how to manage a household so that there would be enough money for the month. All these things must be learned.
