The Nature Of Feminism

Laitman_004Question: What is the nature of feminism, and what is the reason for this phenomenon?

Answer: I believe that feminism is an egoistic distortion of the role of women in society, in the family, and in relation to themselves, and it reflects a lack of understanding of the woman of how to realize herself.

All tendencies and currents that are not strictly natural and traditional are considered to be distortions. Understandably, we must consider them, but they have no right to conduct propaganda regarding attitudes toward the world, life, and the sexes in order to attract others to their opinion.

Comment: In the past, the oppression of women and withholding the right to vote from them became a social phenomenon that produced a struggle for the sake of human rights.

Answer: That is a different matter. But now, feminism has become a deliberate drawing of attention to the female sex. And men are forced to react in a certain way to this and pay particular attention.

For example, I am often at various conferences and conventions, if there is are 20 in the presidium, there is a demand that the number be evenly divided, half men and half women, even if, in terms of their talents, they understand less about the subject under discussion. This is an erroneous western perception that will soon disappear.

The Spiritual Development Of A Couple

laitman_559Question: I cannot stop dreaming about a family where the Creator is revealed between a couple. Will it interfere with the fulfillment of my dream if my husband doesn’t yearn for the Creator?

Answer: His attitude does not depend on him so you cannot blame him in any way! It is the Creator Himself who gives a person the yearning for the Creator. The Creator brings a person to study the wisdom of Kabbalah. According to The Introduction to the Study of the Ten Sefirot, item 4, it says that the Creator puts a person’s hand on the good fate and says: “Take it, choose this.”

If a desire for the revelation of the Creator has emerged in you, it was given to you by the Creator, whereas your husband was not given this desire. Therefore, you are the one who should fulfill the desire and not him. He is absolutely free.

You cannot know what kind of soul he has and when it has to fulfill itself, and it may very well be that it has already fulfilled itself and is actually here now by your side, in this passive way, only in order to help you fulfill yourself.

How Can We Respect Lazy Men?

laitman_564Question: How can we respect men and support them along the spiritual path if they are lazy and afraid of working with their egoism?

Answer: It isn’t the fear of working or laziness but a special kind of resistance that a man feels after the shattering of the general vessel. The shattering occurred as a result of the sin of the Tree of Knowledge, which means as result of the incorporation of the female part in it.

The women’s yearning for spirituality is much greater than that of the men, but this does not mean in any way that we should judge the men unfavourably for not having the same yearning.

All the desires, all the yearnings, all the conditions, the external and the internal events, everything comes from Above, from the Creator, and so if a person is in a state in which the only thing that interests him is a football game and a beer, there is no reason to treat him with less respect than a person who yearns for the wisdom of Kabbalah with all his might.

The two states are given by the Creator, and if the Creator gave a football fan the same desire as a person who yearns for the wisdom of Kabbalah, there is no knowing how he would cope with and fulfill this desire; he could in fact be much better at it. We have no right to judge or to classify people.

We must tie everything that happens to the Creator, and so we have to relate to everyone equally, because if we don’t, we are using our ego and want to change people.

A Woman’s Question

Laitman_632_3Question: Why is the question most frequently asked by women about how to learn to control our fate?

Answer: Controlling our fate is what the wisdom of Kabbalah engages in. Men are more interested in the purely egoistic question of whether there is life after death. Women are interested in the more sublime question of how we can control our fate. This is indeed a female question.

My teacher Rabash used to say that a man has many opportunities to enjoy this world; he enjoys even if he just looks at a woman, while a woman doesn’t have any pleasure when she looks at a man.

In other words, a woman needs a more convincing argument for her existence. She cannot simply feel pleasure by anything, and this is the reason that a woman in our world embodies a much deeper egoism than a man.

This is what the psychological difference between a man and a woman comes down to, the male and female inclinations and their self-fulfillment.

The self-fulfillment of men and women can be one when they connect and are incorporated into each other, and it is through the right connection of their internal attributes that they can attain unity. It isn’t when they merge but when they remain different and increasingly more opposite and at the same time connected above their differences in order to attain the upper goal.

What Will Calm A Woman’s Heart?

Laitman_201_01Question: Why is a woman never satisfied with anything? What can we do so that a woman would be satisfied and calm?

Answer: A woman in our world has very few resources with which to be filled.

She receives filling mainly from her husband, from the family, from her children, from the attention she receives, but she isn’t always satisfied with that. Sometimes she is satisfied with her husband and sometimes with her children. As long as she cares about them, this care fills her, but being satisfied with the family isn’t only a family problem because many external factors affect the family. So a woman in our world is much more susceptible to feelings of shortage, lack, and anxiety than men. This is due to Malchut, which always feels a deficiency.

It seems that there is nothing simpler than providing a woman with a filling—a little attention from her husband and the children, a feeling of a the right connection would fully satisfy her, but although she needs so little, it is still impossible to achieve.

Question: Why is it impossible to give a woman this feeling?

Answer: Because this is actually what creation is based upon. The ego cannot be filled in its initial uncorrected state, and the woman is the embodiment of this state. The majority who yearn for the wisdom of Kabbalah are women.

They have a great need for the meaning of life. Although it isn’t on a level as high as the men, they are the ones who actually feel dissatisfied with life.

Rabash used to say that it is enough for a man to watch a soccer game, to see a pretty woman, to have a beer in the bar with some friends, and feel his life is successful.

On the other hand, a woman needs so many fillings and none of them depend on her. A man has many pleasures in life. Everything was created for him. And what was created for a woman: only her dependence on everyone.

Therefore, we should understand her nature.

Question: Do we have to understand her and to be more aware of her needs?

Answer: The problem is that it will not help. Of course we have to ease a woman’s suffering in this world as much as possible by understanding where it comes from, but eventually a woman will be able to calm down only if we Kabbalists attain, by the unity among us, a state in which she will feel the Light that comes from us. This is the only thing that will fill her.

A Spiritual Leader

Laitman_632_4Question: The man is the primary breadwinner in the family, a social leader, and the driving force in different frameworks. Should a man also be the same in spirituality?

Answer: It makes no difference who yearns for the Creator in order to resemble Him, whether it is a man or a woman. I wouldn’t say that a man is the driving force of advancement, and not our progress of devlopment in any way.

Compared to a woman, a man is more productive in science, but this isn’t necessarily advancement. We see that everything is moving toward a crisis and that people begin to understand that material, technological, and scientific development are not the foundations of this world; spiritual development is.

The question is whether a man advances in his spiritual development. As for now, I would say that those who yearn for spirituality are 80% women and only 20% men.

Women feel the deficiency in this world and in life much more. They feel the lack of filling more acutely so they are ready for self-sacrifice, for helping, for disseminating, for everything.

It is very hard to pull a man out of a state of complacency or indifference.

We are all egoists and are made of a desire to receive, but a woman feels this desire as emptiness and is wiser in choosing the filling. She will not waste time on football and will not feel the momentary excitement and attraction like a man because this is how a woman’s nature operates—in favor of advancing in spirituality. Although basically we should know how to combine both corporeal pleasures and the yearning for spirituality in our lives.

Spiritual Development In A Kabbalistic Family

laitman_289Question: My husband and I study the wisdom of Kabbalah together. Is it worthwhile for us to just read together or must I also listen to his explanations in order to increase his spiritual desire and to let him to feel great?

Answer: In the stage when we are not “perfected” and are not under an anti-egoistic Masach (screen), it is not useful to impose our states on each other. It is preferable to keep a distance. Your husband has states of ascent and descent, his rate of advancement, his problems with the group, and so forth. A woman also has her own states.

I would advise couples to intervene less in each other’s spiritual states, and this is as long as a permanent Masach hasn’t appeared for each of them. Although the couple can talk about their spiritual states, they must be compassionate with each other.

“Women Who Regret Having Kids”

laitman_565_01In the News (The Huffington Post): “A Marie Claire piece published last week presented readers with one of society’s biggest taboos: parents who regret having their kids. One woman in the article describes motherhood as a ‘life-altering mistake’ and a ‘middle-class prison.’ The mostly career-oriented interviewees resent that changing diapers has kept them from writing books and describe themselves as ‘not mother material.’ Facebook groups with names such as ‘I Regret Having Children’ and books such as The Mother Bliss Lie: Regretting Motherhood prove these women are not alone. …

“The decision about whether to spawn or not won’t truly feel like a choice until there’s no longer a taboo against women who don’t want to be moms.

“Fewer millennials are looking to motherhood for fulfillment. Last year, the number of births in the U.S. hit a record low and a 2012 survey from the University of Pennsylvania found that in a 20-year span, the number of students who planned to have children dropped from 78 to 42 per cent. Yet cultural attitudes haven’t caught up with reality. …

“Women should choose motherhood because they want kids, not because of societal pressure. The horrible reality that some parents regret having children proves our expectations need to change.”

My Comment: Society’s distorted view of life is reflected in its attitude regarding offspring, the future of the family, the nation, the world, and further influences every individual’s opinion about his own life and family. The solution to the problem is undoubtedly only by changing society’s attitude, which depends on educating society. It must be addressed in a comprehensive manner, involving mass media.

Men Under Stress

laitman_923In the News (Time): “Being a good provider isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, says a new study. Guys who are required to earn the lion’s share of the family income are less happy and less healthy than guys who aren’t. And the higher the percentage of the bacon a guy has to bring home, the bigger hit his body and brain take.

“The new study… looked at 15 years of data on married people between the ages of 18 and 32 from the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth. ‘The data definitely seems to indicate that, in general, as men take responsibility for greater and greater shares of the couple’s pooled income, they experience declines in their psychological well-being and health,’ says the lead author Christin Munsch, an assistant professor of sociology at University of Connecticut.

“The data suggests that men are at their lowest when they are their families’ only breadwinner. That’s when happiness scores fall to 5% lower and health scores 3.5% lower, on average, than when both partners pitch in equally.

“For women, carrying a heavier financial load has the opposite effect. As they earn more their psychological wellbeing rises. And when they earn less, they feel worse. Unlike the men, women’s health didn’t seem to be affected by their earning status within the family.”

My Comment: This situation causes men to feel pressure because man in modern society is not the same provider of the past who went hunting with a spear. Today there are such conditions of psychological stress that man didn’t have originally. Therefore, we can sympathize with modern men.

Women, on the contrary, feel more confident in stressful situations. By nature, she is more suited to psychologically withstand pressure. Men are suited to carry out physical activities, and women are suited to carry inner pressures. Women also get stronger through regular daily problems and men do not.

The current situation of humanity, society and the state is unnatural. The man who in principle is ready to work and provide a livelihood deals with huge sources of stress and is under many pressures that are very difficult cope with. The female mind is more suited to deal with such pressures. Women’s intuition and psychology is more prone to multiple, reusable, and multilateral influences and the men are not. Sorry men.

Question: Do we come closer to our roots by the measure of our correction?

Answer: Of course. We will remove all external completely unnecessary tensions and pressures, and a man will be able attain what he needs to—the material, and then the spiritual food.

We will all work reasonable hours to ensure our optimal corporeal fulfillment: food, clothes, etc. All the other contentment, first men will achieve from their spiritual work. If the spiritual work is realized in normal conditions, then it only strengthens.

Question: There are no tensions in it?

Answer: There is a lot of stress, but the stress is of a completely different order. If they come from efforts of constantly strengthening the connection between us and through this connection drawing the Upper Light, then they are positive tensions. But if the stress comes from the turmoil of daily life, from the tremendous amount of problems at work, with the authorities, with police, etc., then of course it is very exhausting to the male body.

Question: Will our standard of living decline as a result of spiritual stress?

Answer: To the contrary.

Helping Or Complicating Life?

laitman_543_02Question: We women try to make our husbands’ and children’s lives easier. We worry about their daily lives and organize entertaining activities for their leisure and the holidays. Very often, we even take their chores upon ourselves. Should we perhaps try to do the opposite? Should we try to complicate our husbands’ lives so that they will suffer more, so they awaken faster to advance along the spiritual path?

Answer: A woman should not annoy her husband. She should help him do everything on a reciprocal basis to provide each other with the most easy and comfortable existence. There is no need to create any special difficulties.

The hardships a person overcomes along his spiritual path are spiritual and internal. If a woman grumbles and bangs on pots and pans, it will not help her husband advance spiritually, and she will only harm herself this way.

She should support and help her husband, create the right conditions, and gently push him along the spiritual way, and nothing more.
