A Nation’s Fate Is Determined At The Roundtable

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: You say that it is possible to see a quick result by simple actions and to actually feel a new, powerful force evoked among us within a couple of days that will become our strongest defense and weapon. What actions are necessary in order to attain that?

Answer: I recommend that we begin to hold what we call workshops, discussions in circles or roundtables. There, we will discuss the most important questions that determine our fate.

We will try to rise above all the individual egos in such roundtable discussions in order to find answers that stem from love, connection, and mutual guarantee. First, we have to find out what love is, what connection and incorporation in each other’s desires means, what mutual guarantee is, and the common point so that from it, I can solve all the problems.

We must clarify how we can connect more strongly and thus solve economic problems, problems in education, culture, with drugs, theft, and, actually all the problems we are facing in society. It doesn’t matter what we speak about. What’s important is that every deficiency that is revealed is only a cause that helps us better clarify the concept of mutual guarantee.

Then, we will see that all the problems, including the threat of attack by Iran [in Israel], come only so that we will reinforce mutual guarantee among us. It is as if we look at everything from the other side. We don’t yearn for mutual guarantee in order to get rid of all our internal and external problems, rather, all our internal and external problems are revealed by nature in order to bring us to mutual guarantee, to the completion of our mission, and to unite the people of Israel in the land of Israel.

In order to begin the process of connection and unity, we all must sit at the roundtable. It can be a family or a single person sitting at home in front of the TV screen watching a discussion that takes place at the roundtable. The goal of the discussion is to clarify the question: What do connection, mutual guarantee, and love mean to us, and what state should we reach?

We should speak less about the problems; otherwise we would simply drown in them. Instead, we should rise above them and speak more positively about connection, love, and mutual cooperation, about what builds and not about what destroys. So, we should speak as much as possible about positive factors and as little as possible about the negative ones.

I suggest that we have such debates everywhere: at home and at work. Today, everyone is speaking about the current threat, but a person is where his thoughts are. I don’t want to sink into the threat; I want to rise above it, use the positive forces that raise us above the danger, and to annul it. They operate in such a way that all the threats to our security and the security of our society simply vanish.

It isn’t some kind of psychotherapy and sedative for the people. In this manner, our people will evoke a new force that is above our lives. This is the force of connection, which acts against the ego, against the ordinary human nature.

We can clarify and find this force that is born out of our unity and connection, and doesn’t just exist in nature. This is why there was a condition at the gathering before Mt. Sinai. As it is written, ” If you accept the law, good. If not, then it will be your burial place.”

A Nation That Does Not Exist

Dr. Michael LaitmanLet’s speak about the Jewish people in first person.

We have to rise to the common basis that connects us; we cannot keep the mutual connection among us like other nations; we need the connecting force, which means the upper Light. The people of Israel cannot exist without the Creator that is revealed among them. In the past, the moment the upper force disappeared, we were shattered and dispersed all over the world and ceased to be a nation, since a “nation” is a collective vessel.

As for nations in general, the evolution period “shuffled all the cards.” There is no longer an accurate division; there are no clear roots. So any person who wants to join and to participate in the fulfillment of the principle of “Love thy friend as thyself” belongs to the category of “Israel,” which means that he yearns for the Creator (Yashar—El, straight to the Creator). All the others belong to humanity in general.

Today after this general mix when the world has become a “salad,” only the upper Light differentiates between us. Like a magnet, it draws upwards individuals who belong to Galgata ve Eynaim from the masses. The others remain below, in AHP. It is the Light that reveals the vessels and then we have to work in these parts.

So in order to fix among us the connection that is typical of a nation, we have to be on a spiritual height. Otherwise, without the Light, this connection will simply be impossible. It isn’t by chance that Baal HaSulam speaks about the special education that we need, in the newspaper HaUma (The Nation). Other nations don’t need such a thing.

So we have to connect into a group that works in order to become one whole “as one man in one heart.” This is the condition for the existence of the people of Israel. We cannot keep this connection on the corporeal level, on the basis of our common history and geography. On the contrary, it’s been ages that the history and geography no longer connect us. The only thing that can unite us and bring us to mutual love and connection is the Light that Reforms. It isn’t just any connection but a spiritual connection.

We are simply not made for corporeal connection, since we don’t belong to AHP but to Galgalta ve Eynaim. We cannot be like other nations; we don’t have the forces needed for that, we don’t have the matching inner attribute. We cannot take an example from them. The only option is to correct ourselves.

This is because we live by opposite laws: When the shattering is among us, we fall into unfounded hatred instead of brotherly love. There is no such thing among the nations of the world. We, however, feel repulsion towards one another. If it weren’t for the hatred that we feel from our neighbors and from the whole world, we would keep ourselves as far apart as possible from one another. We wouldn’t get married and we wouldn’t want any colleagues. The shattering force would operate among us

Only the general hatred towards us brings us together, like nuts in a sack, like a herd that still has hope to be saved. Otherwise we would be ready to dissolve, to assimilate in a distant place where we could live a good and comfortable life.

So we cannot compare ourselves to other nations. After all, they were not on a spiritual level; they were not shattered two thousand years ago and did not fall to the corporeal level. It is a false hope that we will unite like all the others and become a nation. What we call the “State of Israel” exists only temporarily, in order to enable us to reach true connection. Otherwise, there is no reason for its existence.

Everything that seemingly connects us today comes from the outside and will easily fall apart. Give people a chance and they will easily settle somewhere else. They may have some sentiments, but there is no connection. This is because we have not corrected the shattering, so there is no way we can connect. We need a special education, but instead we are descending lower and lower…

Where Do Jews Come From?

Research (from ScienceDaily): “Using sophisticated genomic analysis, scientists have probed the ancestry of several Jewish and non-Jewish populations and better defined the relatedness of contemporary Jewish people. The research, may shed light on the question, first raised more than a century ago, of whether Jews are a race, a religious group or something else.

“The genetic, cultural and religious traditions of contemporary Jewish people originated in the Middle East over three thousand years ago. Since that time, Jewish communities have migrated from the Middle East into Europe, North Africa and across the world. The migration of Jews to new locales is known as the Diaspora. This study shows that although Jewish people experienced genetic mixing with surrounding populations, they retained a genetic coherence along with a religious one. …

“‘We have shown that Jewishness can be identified through genetic analysis, so the notion of a Jewish people is plausible. Yet the genomes of the Jewish Diaspora groups have distinctive features that are representative of each group’s genetic history,” says Dr. Ostrer.

“Dr. Ostrer noted, ‘The study supports the idea of a Jewish people linked by a shared genetic history. Yet the admixture with European people explains why so many European and Syrian Jews have blue eyes and blonde hair.’”

The “Chosen People” Have A Responsibility Before The World. Who Is Willing?

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: From my experience during trips abroad, I can say that in relation to the concept of the “chosen people,” others envy the Jews and ask: “Why them, but not us?”

Answer: What advantages do people see in being the “chosen people”? More money? Are the Jews awarded some special treatment other than anti-Semitism and general hatred? Would anyone like to take their place? If you look at it from the standpoint of common sense, then it is better not to be Jewish.

Only if I accept my duty, if I feel that I can perform a special task in the world, then it makes sense to be a Jew. Otherwise, what’s the point?

Hence, there is assimilation, an inability to accept one’s Jewishness, and the like. If various Jewish organizations around the world started speaking with a warm heart about the role of the people of Israel by leading them towards unity through love, then there would be no assimilation in its current scale. Then a person would feel that a special part that needs to be realized is inherent in him, that he is unique in history, in all reality, in the universe.

Question: Isn’t there a pretext of pride?

Answer: There is a place for responsibility and care for others, but not for pride. Being deeply acquainted with the methodology, personally, I feel no arrogance; I am just anxious about realizing our mission.

It is said: “The Creator has chosen you,” but He chose you for the purpose of correction. You have to work; you should take care of the whole world. And after you complete your task, and all people unite in love becoming a single entity, there will be no difference between us. People will integrally unite in a common “sphere” that has no right or left, no top or bottom, no great or small. Everyone will unite together, similar to the upper force.

Arvut Movement Press Conference

On June 11th, the Israeli Writers’ House in Tel Aviv held a press conference of the social Arvut Movement that brought together representatives from all types of media: newspapers, radio, TV and the Internet: News of the Week, Satellite, Age, Reka, Nine, Zman.com, Mignews, etc.

The representatives of the movement talked about the objectives and basic directions of their activity and responded to questions.

The Arvut Movement strongly proclaimed itself in the hot summer of 2011 when the reality of the “global village” announced itself in the protest movement in the streets of Israeli cities. Integral relationships, which gripped the world, put everyone in very tough conditions and left Israel, with its tangle of problems, no room for error. The crisis quickly dispels the illusions of the past: If we don’t learn to live by new rules, we will be forced to study the science of survival.

And so, the main goal of the Arvut Movement is to consolidate the society on the basis of the principle of mutual guarantee. Disagreements and conflicts should not mislead us, although sometimes they seem unresolvable. We need to rise above what divides us and unite around common solutions to all problems.

The Arvut Movement quickly managed to unite thousands of people from all walks of life. Its materials are published in leading websites; it publishes books and pamphlets, gives lectures and organizes seminars in various organizations. Along with this, the movement focuses its forces on several major projects, covering the widest audiences.

The technique of integral education was developed by international efforts. The educational programs of the movement were presented in UNESCO and the UN. They are already used in U.S. prisons, and Šiauliai University signed an agreement to use the technique of integral education in their educational process.

In the media, the Israeli TV channel Arvut.tv is created on the basis of Channel 66. It serves as the foundation for programs on the subject of mutual guarantee, broadcasting the concept of the unity of society in a variety of genres, without which no modern problem can be solved.

Roundtables in Hebrew and Russian, which are regularly conducted throughout the country, are the flagship project of the movement. This scheme has been already used by dozens of cities, as well as colleges Tel Hai, Beit Berl, the University of Haifa, and even the Knesset (the Israeli general assembly). Here, polar points of view come in contact, and seemingly irreconcilable opponents find common ground.

This summer, the Arvut Movement, together with large public organizations such as the youth movement Scopus, Association of Community Centers, Council of Judea and Samaria, Kulanana, Union of Volunteers, Kenes Sderot le hevrah, youth movement Bnei Akiva, Israeli Students Association, Tnuat a-Noar Be Yisrael, Maccabi Hatzair youth movement, organization Maace, Israel’s Women’s Parliament, and women’s organization Ahoti (“My Sister”), are carrying out a wide campaign called “120 Roundtables: Public Dialogue or a Collective Position.” In the consolidation of society, we cannot do without mutual guarantee, and first of all, it requires a restructuring of values because society cultivates values based on division and stiff competition.

During the summer months, roundtable discussions will be simultaneously held in most cities of the country; they will be attended by representatives from all levels of government. This public campaign will be completed in the Knesset in November.

Of course, journalists had many questions: “Can the idealistic idea of mutual guarantee be combined with the tired society that believes in nothing? Where is the guarantee that a collision with the reality of the Israeli political kitchen does not become bitter disappointment?”

– “We are not an insurance company,” said Zion Alon, a strategic adviser to the movement. “Only one thing can be guaranteed: the failure of the old way has put us on the threshold of degradation.”

“But is not an attempt to negotiate with those who are guilty in this situation doomed to fail?”

– “We focus not on trying to negotiate, but on changing the approach to solving problems,” said Igor Dion, head of the Russian-speaking department of the Arvut Movement. “We find a firm basis of common interests, and only at this level do we begin to agree with each other. Any other approach automatically makes right the one who is strong.”

The word “utopia” sounded repeatedly in the audience.

– In Greek, it means a place that doesn’t exist, explained Emma Sotnikova, press secretary of the movement. “You need to create this place to change the relationship between people. Otherwise, Israel has no future. In the 21st century, in the information age, the “Fourth Power” becomes the first one. So, use it for good,” she encouraged journalists.

After the press conference ended, discussions and disputes continued on the sidelines, which made it obvious that the topics raised by the Arvut Movement were interesting for many of the invited guests.

Gather The Harvest And Feed The Afflicted

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: The Creator wants us to be an example for the whole world so we could develop the method and be the transitional link. What changes do we have to make in our desire to attain what we read about in the books of Kabbalists and to really become an example for everyone?

Answer: First of all, we must be the “head.” The letters of the word “Israel” (ישראל) decompose into the expression “my head” (לי ראש). We must check what is happening in the world, what is the Creator’s will, and how we can become an “adapter,” connecting His plans and desires with the world, as well as how to bring the world closer to realization. Let the Creator determine the new state of the world while the world moves forward in order to desire to take on this state. For that I have to be in the middle as an intermediary, mentor, educator, assistant.

That is our work. All that is incumbent upon Israel is to give an example, to “play” with the world, helping it to acquire the right form, to explain what is happening, to speak about the reasons for the troubles. After all, in the spiritual sense, people are “little children,” and we must patiently take care of their development, becoming imbued with their worries.

In the past I was far from this and did not understand why I need a connection with all of humanity. Throughout my entire life in the past, I supposed that I would be closed off in the scientific environment that I liked while providing all of the material necessities for myself. I wanted to attain, understand, and weave together the picture of reality, and I was not planning to lower my gaze to what lies below that level. Why does a researcher of the universe need all those who are merely confused about this question or who don’t care about it at all? This was my position.

However, afterwards I departed from the prideful egoistic scorn towards those around me and reached the opposite position where I am willing to constantly “change their diapers.” After all, everything depends on the realization of the importance, and on the spiritual path it becomes apparent that this is our work, that this is how we facilitate the correction of the world and give pleasure to the Creator.

There is no work higher than this one. It is not an accident that it is written that a person who plows his field to feed the hungry carries out the priests’ spiritual work. We simply do not understand what the task of the Kohanim is. Beneath the external “magnificence,” something completely different is concealed – care for those who are small. In a family, the children are the most important ones and everything revolves around them. That is how we should act as well. This is called “the kingdom of priests” where we don’t have anything else besides this work. We create the correspondence between the Creator and the creatures, adapting their desires to His revelation.

Question: What are we missing for that now?

Answer: We need many qualified people. All of our friends must go through courses for teachers and organizers. We have the resources and we have to realize them more and more, wider, deeper, and higher. We need massive work on education, which will require the efforts of everyone without exception. And then, once we are ready, we have to think about how to come out to a wide audience.

We will have to do this immediately, and we are already lagging behind. It’s a shame that not everyone hears me. This makes me afraid about what might happen in the country in the near future. After all, everything in the world is rigidly interconnected and only we are able to “sweeten” what is happening with our work.

The Arvut Movement Brochure: “Changing Priorities”

The Arvut (Mutual Guarantee) Movement: “Changing Priorities” (excerpt from the brochure):

About Us: Our organization represents virtually all sectors of Israeli society: the native Israeli and immigrants, the secular and religious, professors and students, businessmen and workers, technology and humanities specialists.

What do we have in common? No matter how it may sound, what we share is our concern for what is happening in the world. The fact is that the world (and our country is no exception) is undergoing a historical transformation about which society, for the most part, is unaware.

Political scientists, historians, and philosophers claim that we are witnessing the birth of a new civilization. Unexpectedly, we find ourselves in a totally new reality. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that it is mainly unpredictable and the old traditional logic no longer works. We seem to be extremely unprepared for the radically, new state of the world—a global integral world.

Paul Gilding, the author of The Great Disruption, describes the new reality very accurately: “I look at the world as an integrated system, so I don’t see the protests, the debt crisis, inequality, and insane climate as unrelated problems; rather, I see the whole system going through the turmoil of breaking down.”

The Forefathers As The Architects Of Correction

Dr. Michael LaitmanBaal HaSulam, “The Arvut (Mutual Guarantee)”: Therefore, the Creator did not find a nation or a tongue qualified to receive the Torah, except for the children of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, whose ancestral merit reflected upon them.

The forefathers represent the three lines that the desire to receive acquires and that enable it to correct itself, attain the goal, and become similar to the Light. We have to constantly use the same method that the three lines, the three attributes of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, founded at the beginning.

As our sages said, ‘The Patriarchs observed the whole Torah even before it was given.”

The three lines are even in the KHB phase, in the “first third of correction,” even when there is no need for them. They actually are realized in the HGT phase and even more so in NHY, which means in the other two thirds. Today, it is time for the final phase of the correction (NHY), when the external desire to receive is fulfilled.

On the whole, the forefathers symbolize the period that preceded our days. Now, it is the sons’ turn, which is us. We must correct the three lines by ourselves. All the rest of the world is NHY, and it will be corrected through our work on them.

According to the wisdom of Kabbalah, these phases are defined as two thousand years for each phase, but on the whole, we shouldn’t count years, but rather degrees. NHY cannot correct themselves. However, when the sons (HGT) are connected to the forefathers (HBD), then they also can correct the nations of the world.

This means that because of the exaltedness of their souls, they had the ability to attain all the ways of the Creator with respect to the spirituality of the Torah, which stems from their Dvekut, without first needing the ladder of the practical part of the Torah, which they had no possibility of observing at all.

The level of the forefathers includes all three parts: HBD, HGT, and NHY. The forefathers also went through the same processes that take place on the next levels. Therefore, we can discover the entire process until the end of correction, the whole method, by the ten Sefirot of HBD.

The forefathers cannot fulfill it in practice yet, but then can potentially plan and arrange the future system. Thanks to their spiritual height, they could prepare the ground for the work of the sons, although not in practice, but in potential, and it already included all the deficiencies and the vessels that are later used in the method that they discovered.

On the whole, the forefathers is the upper system that is fulfilled that way in the small desire at the dawn of its correction.

The Time Of Grandsons Is Here

A Bridge Over The Eternal Conflict

From the lesson dedicated to Israel’s Independence Day

On a day like today, we usually don’t speak about deficiencies, meaning the unfulfilled desires, but we always measure everything with regard to the vessels.

First we have to understand that the term “Israel” symbolizes the intention of “Yashar – El,” (straight to the Creator). We will actually celebrate the real independence day of Israel when we are freed from the domination of our ego, when we unite above self love, when we keep this connection at least on a minimal level, and when it prevails over the separated desire that rages inside us as the evil inclination. Then the power of unity will rule over the power of separation. This is the exodus from exile to independence.

Are we free on the corporeal level? Is our group free in the spiritual world? This is what we should ask ourselves and measure. After all, everything is relative, and as we ascend the spiritual levels, we will discover the powerful size of the separation over and over again, according to the new Reshimot, (reminiscences). Then we will acquire the power of unity with the help of the Reforming Light.

This is the way—the unity and the separation alternately replace each other. So where is our independence? It narrows down to our supervision over the process. Even when we fall and seem to lose our independence under the rule of evil desires, we still know how to rise. Therefore, we are called independent.

Today we are still dominated by our egoistic needs and desires. In this world we are not united as a nation yet, we still reject one another and do not want brotherly love, we don’t accept it as our goal yet, but see it as an option: It is desirable, it’s possible but “there is no rush.” And we feel pain since this fire isn’t burning in us.

We are in a state of exile and not in a state of freedom and independence. After all, independence means that at least we make the efforts to attain it. We have received all the necessary means from Above in order to determine our independence, rising above our ego in general unity. We haven’t attained it yet in order to immediately pass it on to the people and to the world.

All our friends throughout the world need to feel this, both in corporeality and in spirituality, and we must fulfill our mission and reach the independence of the desire to bestow over the desire to receive. This is called “faith above reason.” This is what we are facing.

The uniqueness of our times is in the fact that everything is ready for correction. The world is approaching this and we understand this better and have what it takes. No one is standing in our way, not physically, not morally, and not mentally. We don’t have fierce enemies that stop us from carrying out our mission.

So the problem is only in us. We have to actually feel that we are under the domination of Pharaoh that reigns within us, an alien force, and it alone does not allow us to wage war for independence.

Question: There is a growing need for a change. Everyone understands the reason for all our problems already, we understand that it is all about the environment, about the separation and the lack of mutual trust… how can people reach a common perspective?

Answer: “Love will cover all sins.” This is the whole secret. We don’t correct anything directly, but we simply build our unity above all the problems and the disagreements.

By being in a labyrinth of opposites we will not achieve anything. If you start clarifying this swamp, Egypt will simply “swallow” you, and bury you under its massive pyramids. This is the exile in Egypt from which we will not be able to rise if we work directly with the defects that are revealed among the friends. We mustn’t do it. This is why Pharaoh, the ego, forces us and seems to logically be showing us the problems that need to be solved first. He is saying: “Bravo, keep on dealing with the spiritual advancement, but only in my territory, in the corrupt mutual relations among us.” We mustn’t listen to him!

Leave the ego, you are not correcting it, you want to build a bridge of love over it. Only then will you succeed, in “faith above reason.” After all, spirituality is above corporeality. The Creator has arranged things this way, and so I only have to escape Pharaoh, or in other words, to rise above him. We don’t have to destroy or to correct him. When I begin to build something above him, the “angel of death” will turn into “the holy angel.” This is what Moses is asking for: “Let my people go!”

How To Put An End To War?

Dr. Michael LaitmanToday there are no wars of survival wars, and no wars of independence, no wars against attackers, but rather wars directed at bestowal. This is exactly how we should see the current state.

In the past, Abraham’s group broke off from the part of humanity that was concentrated in Babel and since then all our existence is meant only to correct ourselves by going through shattering and destruction, exiles and holocausts. This is the essence of the many bitter corrections, as a result of which we are back at the land of Israel today.

Not all the nations understand this return, and among those who have accepted it, not all of them treat the state and the army in the same way. These of course are childhood diseases, which we have to go through during the stages of our development. In the paper Ha’uma (The Nation) and in other places, Baal HaSulam says that we are not a nation yet in the true sense.

Here is an excerpt from his article “A Speech for the Completion of The Zohar“:

It follows that our generation is the generation of the days of the Messiah. This is why we have been granted the redemption of our holy land from the hands of the foreigners. We have also been rewarded with the revelation of The Book of Zohar.…

Yet, with those two, we have only been rewarded with this gift from the Creator, but we have not received anything into our own hands. Instead, we have been given a chance to begin with the work of God, to engage in Torah and Mitzvot Lishma. Then we will be granted the great success that is promised to the generation of the Messiah, which all the generations before us did not know.

In this light, we must see the same path the past generations made. This process is essential despite the many disasters it involved, and at the end of which we were finally given a chance to return to the land of Israel in order to rebuild a state and a nation here. Today it is in our hands: There are all the necessary conditions, and from now on we have to pave the road to the correction of the world. Only when we are prepared for that, will the troubles and the problems that are aimed at us come to an end.

Today everyone who aims at and yearns for spirituality, for the revelation of the spiritual Providence of the upper force, belongs to the group called “the nation of Israel.” These people aim at Yashar – El (Straight for the Creator), and today they have to take on the form of bestowal. Then the pressure on Israel will stop and we will be able to take care of the whole world correctly. This is our mission.

As for now, we don’t see the whole picture, our role, the goal, and the process which we have to implement on the way to reaching the goal, we don’t understand why disasters fall upon us systematically even today, and when the afflictions and wars will come to an end. We cannot stop them, but we can correct ourselves, and then they will come to an end. It is simply impractical and futile to count on the fact that we will be rid of them if we don’t correct ourselves.

The knowledge of the whole system is required here: Why does it happen, what are the reasons, what is our responsibility, what is the goal that we should reach, and what should we fulfill in order to do I that? Only then is it possible to talk about a solution to the problems, only then will there be no more wars end and fallen heroes.

If people could see the general process, they would understand that we are becoming worse than we were before. We are not building a state and a nation, and do not arrive at any consensus. On the contrary, more and more people relate to the nation and the state by putting their self-interests first: As long as a person feels good, he is here, and when it is bad, he leaves the country. He doesn’t tie himself to anything here. Show him a place on the globe that is better and that is accessible and he will leave immediately.

So on the whole the question is: Why are we crying if we are not doing anything? Isn’t it silly and childish? Instead of just shedding tears and avowing never again, let’s find out, let’s look for the reason for what is going on. New planes and missiles are fine, but let’s examine things and focus on clarifying them.

What is lacking? Even in the direct practical sense, why are there so many who don’t join the army? Because we don’t care about the people, about their spirit, about their self-recognition. Look at what we are teaching the younger generation. The point is not about military service, but about a person’s investment in the society. If we don’t worry about that, why should we cry about it afterward?

Isn’t it better to invest in means and efforts to change the internal state of the people, in raising them, thus reaching a general consensus? Otherwise, if people do not recognize the state and its fallen heroes, the sporadic phenomenon will become a general trend.
