Question: It feels like we lack the words for prayer. Does prayer express itself through words or through feelings?

Answer: The prayer is revealed in the process of searching for those feelings within me that can connect with the Creator and how I turn to Him.

Those states, those requests are the very desires I want to uncover in order to attain the Creator.

Question: So this happens only within me?

Answer: Yes, only within you.

Question: How can I feel that not only my life but also the lives of my friends depend on my prayer?

Answer: You simply need to deepen your thoughts about how connected you must be with all your friends, at least during the congress. Then you will begin to sense, to some extent, the force of connection you wish to attain.

Question: During prayer, you reach a certain point that is very difficult to overcome. What should you do to feel that you are in contact with the Creator?

Answer: The easiest way to attain contact with the Creator is through connection with your friends. In other words, it is enough to be included in your ten, and then from within the ten, direct your combined strength toward the Creator so that He will draw you all to Himself.

Question: Besides uniting at congresses, raising a common prayer, working in tens and dissemination, attending lessons, and reading the sources, what else can we as a community and as individuals do to bring Israel to correction and become an example for the whole world?

Answer: We must ask the Creator for unity, to show us the unified point of connection among us so that we always have such a center of connection, and that only this would be important to us.

Question: How can we now make our hearts similar to the Creator’s so that He may dwell in our shared heart?

Answer: We need to imagine the connection between our hearts, and from this collective heart, raise a prayer.

In principle, it is not so far from us. Let’s try to do it together and discover where else we can draw closer to one another.

Question: When a person faces utterly ugly situations that cause great pain, he can understand that this pain gives him the conditions to work with the heart for the right kind of prayer. But when he keeps striking through this pain in prayer, he realizes he has no strength left. How can he remove himself from this pain and use it as a condition for the proper prayer for everyone?

Answer: A person must realize where this feeling of pain comes from—from the Creator. Why? Because despite his thoughts, the person is actually close to the Creator.

Therefore, we must strive toward the point of connection with the Creator. And when we reach it, we must leave ourselves behind and envision ourselves fused with the Creator.

That is the purpose of our prayer.

Question: What should one focus their efforts on in spiritual work: feeling the individual desires of the friends in the ten or on sensing the collective aspiration without being distracted by particulars?

Answer: It is more effective to concentrate your efforts on collective aspiration. First I recommend finding this shared yearning, connecting to it, accepting it as your own, and using it to move forward.

Each person must feel that the entire ten depends on them. You must take the ten into your hands and carry it toward the Creator. That is exactly what we need to feel.

The ten should live within the heart of each one of us so that we constantly sense it, never let it go, and in this way, carry it to the Creator.

Question: What does it mean to open the heart? What is power over the heart?

Answer: Power over the heart means that I can direct my heart and decide how it should work, whether it will be open or closed to others, strive forward together with someone or not, and so on. This is the work within the heart.

Question: When we make an “attack” on our own heart, what is our main mistake?

Answer: That is something each person must discover for themselves. Matters of the heart cannot be handed over to another. In general, we can talk about it, but in essence, only you can precisely determine it for yourself.

We ourselves must awaken the Creator to give us the desire to give. It is not enough that we have a desire to receive because there must also be a positive desire from the giver to give us a new desire to give.

Even though above there is a general desire to do good to His creations, He still waits for our desire to awaken His desire.

In other words, if we are unable to evoke His desire, it is a sign that the desire on the part of the receiver is still incomplete. Hence, precisely by praying that there will be a will above, our desire is made to be a genuine desire, to be a fitting Kli [vessel] to receive the abundance (Baal HaSulam, Shamati 57, “Will Bring Him Closer to His Will“).

Constant appeal to the Creator from the ten will eventually lead to the fact that our request is genuine and will elicit an answer. The Creator is a law of nature. We need to reach a certain threshold of effort, then we will receive a new life from above, a new property—the property of bestowal.

We have not yet crossed this threshold, which means that we do not yet have this desire. We will not be able to use the quality of bestowal correctly, but would use it selfishly. The upper governance will in no way allow this.

Therefore the constant awakening of the Creator from the ten is a necessary condition for the genuine desire to emerge in the ten in the right magnitude and quality. Our success depends on this alone!

Question: My friends and I must come to a request to the Creator: “Either correct me, or kill me.” But looking into my heart I see that I am like a cat that, thanks to the environment, has been trained to walk with a tray, and if a mouse runs by I will dash after it. How will I come to a sincere desire?

Answer: This is possible only under the influence of the upper light. Did you think you could manage on your own?!

Question: Must the desire be such that the light will act?

Answer: No! You cannot have such a desire. From where?! You are an egoist by nature. If you slightly nullify yourself before the other egoists, then the Creator will respond to your mutual nullification.

When you create in the center of the ten such a field where each of you nullifies yourself, an empty space will form, a white spot. The Creator will act on that.

Question: So we will come to the desire “better death than such a life,” or is that impossible?

Answer: You will come to the desire to unite thanks to envy, when you show one another how far each of you has already progressed. Then your ego will force you to be different.

Question: What will the upcoming congress give us in hastening time, especially if it will be in one prayer? How important is the participation of each friend in it?

Answer: The main thing is to be connected with the friends, to strive to understand one another, and to perform the same actions in support of each other.

In this way, we will gradually come to a state where our present and future will be bound only with a single movement forward. That is, we will look at our state in the group as a whole, as being inside a kind of instrument that can accelerate and move us from degree to degree.

Question: You say that the ten must become as one. What is this state?

Answer: One means that we, each of us, gather together into a single unit, into a single quality—the quality of mutual bestowal. And there are no other relationships, not toward the Creator nor to each other.

All the other qualities of a person are connected to the quality of bestowal. I annul myself, I connect with others, I feel myself lower or higher than the others in order to influence them with the greatness of the goal. I try to unite them together, to imagine the Creator in place of each of them. By this we come to the quality that is called “one.”

Question: Do we attain this state only for a short time or must we hold it constantly?

Answer: This state comes for a single moment, but as soon as we attain it, we reveal the Creator.

In the very next moment we fall, and everything disappears, the sensation of the Creator vanishes, serious disturbances arise in us, up to hatred, and the work above them begins once again, which leads to the quality of “one, unique.” And again we reveal the Creator.

And so, step by step, we advance toward the goal, each time attaining new worlds.

Thus, for now, we must only think about our ten. If it is surrounded by proper tens in my group and in other groups, then we feel a great addition of strength from the other such tens. Therefore, I am interested that there be as many of them as possible, and that they be as strong as possible. But, in principle, my spiritual work is concentrated within my own ten.

Over time, a kind of good competition may be encouraged here, which will push us forward. Only it is still too early to speak about this. We must treat it very carefully. But it will come.
