Enjoy Working for the Creator

Question: In which Kelim does a Kabbalist feel correct spiritual joy?

Answer: In the Kelim of bestowal. He feels joy from the fact that he acts for others, for the Creator.

Question: How can one truly enjoy working for the Creator?

Answer: The Creator’s desire is for us to be in constant maximum connection with each other and to reach Him directly based on this connection. These two areas need to be prepared and strengthened.

Question: How can you annul oneself correctly in order to feel the joy that pleases the Creator?

Answer: To do this you need to go through several states: first, completely annul yourself, then imagine yourself in the quality of bestowal, which you include in the Creator, and then you will be able to feel this state and will rejoice in it.

Explore Your Feelings

“Turn away from evil and do good, seek peace and pursue it” (Psalms 34).

There are two forces in the world that give man the motivating force that will compel him to revoke his rest force. That is, the force of rest, which is in the qualities of the soul, yields to two other forces, meaning become revoked, and by this the soul takes upon itself the force of movement: 1) the rejecting force, 2) the attracting force.

The rejecting force is from something bad and loathsome that compels one to run away. The attracting force is good and nice things that one is compelled to chase. However, a single force, whether attracting or rejecting, is insufficient to revoke the force of rest.

“Turn away from evil” is called the “rejecting force,” if a person feels that it is bad. “Do good” is called the “attracting force” if a person feels that this is good and he must chase it and obtain it.

“Seek peace and pursue it.” (Rabash, Assorted Notes, 219, “Seek Peace and Puruse It“)

Question: How can we rely on these feelings if we are not yet corrected? Should we experience them somehow?

Answer: You should experience them. You should explore them. You should understand where they lead you and what the Creator wants from you when He gives you such desires.

When you know this, then all your desires will become very clear, and you will move only toward the right goal.

Question: What helps us not get confused between the traditional choice of “pleasant—unpleasant” and the true choice of “striving for good and avoiding evil”?

Answer: It helps that we strive to get out of the control of good and evil, which we want to feel instead of “good—bad.” We must realize this aspiration in our connections and help each other.

Switch to Connection with the Creator

Question: What is the internal movement where you can switch yourself to connection with the Creator, although you do not clearly feel Him?

Answer: It happens when a person realizes that everything that has happened to him, has happened by the Creator’s will, and now it is time for him to make his movement toward the Creator. And that is how he acts.

Question: How can one force himself into a state of connection with the Creator?

Answer: Through the same exercises we always do. The Creator purposely gives us these exercises to confuse and cool us. And we, on the contrary, strive to rise up to Him.

Therefore, create strength, ask Him in unison with the whole ten that He raise you to Himself, that you want to take hold of each other and Him.

How Can We Catch the Creator’s Response?

Question: When I face an obstacle, can I ask the Creator what response He expects from me?

Answer: You can ask not only during obstacles but at any time.

Question: How can I clearly catch the Creator’s response and not just the response of my mind?

Answer: Ask to understand His obstacles correctly, to draw the right conclusions, and to discover the Creator’s joy in your proper response to the obstacle.

Questions About Joy in Spiritual Work

Question: Rabash writes those who have a point in the heart are given the opportunity to know they can enjoy spiritual things. Therefore, we look at those who enjoy material things as small children. Such a state can lead to arrogance. What should we do about it?

Answer: Nothing can be done about it. You just need to understand what I enjoy and what I strive for. Then, everything will fall into place.

Question: If joy is the illumination of the Creator and fulfillment, can we turn judgments into joy, and how can we do it?

Answer: For now it is enough to determine whether you are in a state of connection or similarity with the Creator or not. The rest will come.

Question: Through our prayers, requests, and appeals, we hold on to the Creator. We feel that we are growing in our own eyes all the time, and this gives us joy. On what point should all our attention and thoughts be concentrated?

Answer: On what I am doing for the Creator at the moment. Just because I feel good doesn’t mean anything.

Question: What is there to rejoice about on the day of judgment?

Answer: About the fact that we have tried during this year, as in prior years, maybe even more successfully, to raise ourselves to the level of the highest court. This is a very high level.

Come to a Single Prayer

Question: Who reveals Hisaron (deficiency) to a friend: one’s evil inclination or the Creator?

Answer: The Creator.

Question: Can a person raise his own Hisaron to the Creator or do his friends have to?

Answer: He does it with them together.

Question: We often raise our friend’s Hisaron to the Creator so He would connect us on a new level. But there is a fear that a person’s condition could change, and he would be filled in his egoistic Kelim; for example, he will be cured, find a job, etc. How do we work with that?

Answer: We do not consider the side effects because the most important thing for us is to feel united in a single intention in which the Creator would be revealed.

Question: How can we wish to come to a single prayer? Is it very hard?

Answer: It is not very hard. You must start from afar and gradually narrow the field of view so the Creator is in its center.

Question: So we don’t have to wait for some abstract Hisaron, but should work with one the Creator reveals to us now?

Answer: Of course. At any given moment, you can manifest it.

So that the Creator May Fulfill Our Request

Question: How can we make our prayer truly effective?

Answer: You need to encourage each other so that everyone feels a desire to rise higher and pull everyone else along, like when climbing a mountain. Then you will receive the Creator’s response, which will definitely satisfy you.

Question: Can Kabbalists encourage each other like this to make a collective ascent during a lesson or a congress?

Answer: Of course, they can. That is exactly what they do. It only seems to us that an ascent can happen in one move, but that is not true. Here we encounter problems that we must solve at every moment and divide our spiritual progress strictly according to our capacities; meaning, we need to give it more attention in order to remain in the quality of bestowal and constantly ask the Creator to fulfill us.

Question: We say that we do not strive for suffering but for unity. But if there is no suffering, I would not want to ascend. How do we break this cycle?

Answer: Your friends will help you with that. When you feel yourself in an ascent, through your connection with them, you will also feel yourself in a descent. This will create the desire in you to connect with them and rise together.

We Don’t See How Close We Are to Salvation

On the last day of the Sukkot holiday, we must combine all our requests into one big cry for salvation—Hoshana Rabbah. If we talked about it all the days of the holiday, studied, and wanted to feel what was happening to us, then, of course, at the end of the holiday we can collect all these occurrences and come to great salvation.

We want all the requests we raised during the holiday to come together and make us feel an immense need for great salvation.

We ask the Creator for salvation, that is for conditions under which the light can be revealed through us. We have been preparing for this all the days of Sukkot; otherwise, we would have neither the right desire nor the right shade. The cry comes through as a reward for the effort.

The Creator conceals how close we are to salvation with this shade if we turn to Him with this exalted and powerful request: “Creator, save us!”

Just as the Creator creates a shade for His light and gradually raises us stage by stage, we need to accept this shade and try to see it as a means to rise above reason, above the shade, to come to the light of faith. When we come to such a need, it is already the beginning of salvation.

The state when a person comes to the desire to live in the light of faith is called the night of Hoshana Rabbah. During all the days of the holiday, he revealed an ever-stronger inner desire for salvation, because every day, more and more light of correction was revealed to him. And he rejoices that he has reached a realization and a feeling that only the Creator can and is ready to save him.

The light of faith is revealed in the Kli that a person prepares by his refusal to receive the light directly and by his desire to remain in the shade. We need to achieve such a connection with the Creator when He shines on us, but we do not want to receive this light directly and push it away, wishing to resemble the action of the light in relation to the Creator.

Thus, our correct attitude toward the Creator is also called light. This is how we begin to feel the light completing all our work. The Creator gives us an example of how we can give to Him in the same way He gives to us.
