We must work in faith above reason, ignoring our own feelings “like an ox to the burden and a donkey to the load.” Once domestic animals like the ox and donkey were free, living their own lives in nature with their own family, their herd. But now their entire life is devoted to fulfilling the master’s demands. They sold themselves for a feeding trough and are ready to do whatever work the master requires.

In the same way we must agree to do all the work according to the Creator’s will, “like an ox to the burden and a donkey to the load.” But for what reward? For nothing but the bare minimum needed to exist. I want nothing for myself, only to exist, and for what purpose? Only to fulfill the Master’s will so that He would love me as His ox or donkey.

Why does the master feed and clean his animals? Because they work. That is exactly what I want and nothing more. I need to humble myself to pure intention.
