The Gate of Tears

43The Gate of tears is a special gate leading to the Creator. There are many gates to the Creator, but only one of them opens, the gate of tears.

The Zohar explains this very simply: There is only one entrance to the Creator, there is no need for confusion.

A person comes into contact with the upper force when he truly cries from lack of strength, from the impossibility of continuing to live like this, from the fact that he really gave it all he has got.  When one bursts into tears, the Creator reveals Himself to the person.

One day I tried to cry before RABASH from the bottom of my heart. He laughed in my face. I was ready to tear him apart back then. But there is nothing you can do. That was at a relatively early stage of learning.

All the gates are really locked, except for the gate of tears. Upon revealing the full extent of one’s ego, one’s whole desire, giving and relating everything to the Creator, a person reaches the final state: “This is it! There is nothing more I can do!”

But if he does not get an answer, it means these are empty tears, like a child who cries for any reason. Then he has to keep working and, someday, everything will be revealed to him.

The right desire is not expressed in crying one’s eyes out. It is a state where, on one hand a person is in complete powerlessness, and on the other, has a great desire to give to the Creator what he has prepared for Him, but the Creator does not want to accept it.

In such a state, a person suddenly begins to reveal a material egoistic desire, which, it turns out, is deeply hidden inside his “pure” spiritual aspirations. And he begins to dig it out of himself, to purge himself of it.

Then he turns to the Creator again with a request, and suddenly sees the egoistic desire stuck in him again, although earlier it seemed to him that he was already absolutely pure and cleansed.

Now the main thing is to never give up and to realize that your attitude toward the Creator is the same as His attitude toward you. This is a full reflection. The Creator is the upper light, completely at rest, only the creation is changing.

Therefore, if it seems to you there are changes in the Creator, these changes are in you, you see yourself as if in a crooked mirror. After all, before you correct yourself, you see the Creator in relation to yourself in the opposite reflection, in the negative relative to the positive.

It is written: “The Creator is close to you in the measure you are close to the Creator.” The Baal Shem Tov explained this with the words “The Creator is your shadow.” That is, if you can observe your shadow, your reflection against the background of white light, then this is the Creator.
