Why Is It So Difficult To Keep The Intention?

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Why is it so difficult to keep the intention?

Answer: It is because in the right intention, our desire to enjoy immediately reaches correction. If, even for a moment, you thought with the right intention, then you corrected the desire that occurred inside of you at that moment, and it would be replaced with a new one, an uncorrected one. And now, once again, you need to imagine the unified group of all of the friends as one whole.

If you do so and aspire towards the Light that Reforms in order to reveal the quality of bestowal a little bit inside that state, then it means that you have once again corrected your desire and it changed once again. It turns out, that every time when you get disconnected, it means that you are not disconnected and getting further apart, but that the desires are changing inside of you and this is how you move forward!

0% for Ourselves

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Now, while we are still in the preparation mode, we demand to get the power of bestowal. Will our request change after we enter the spiritual world, or will we ask for the same thing again?

Answer: It’s the same request, but during our preparation period it bears an egoistic nature Lo Lishma. I ask to be given the force of bestowal, but subconsciously I hope to get some benefit for myself. So, it’s called “Lo Lishma” but the request per se remains the same.

The preparation period starts with my first request about the power of bestowal. This period ends when we receive this power, which we use to enter the spiritual world. There, we receive the power of bestowal again.

During preparation, I requested for my own sake, Lo Lishma. I wanted to obtain the power of bestowal and hoped that eventually I would get something good for myself. My egoistic intentions gradually diminished from 100% in the beginning of my journey until they became 0% at the end. This is how I advance during the preparation period.

When I obtain the power of bestowal by preparing the desire for genuine bestowal, I use this power to request a stronger power of bestowal. At this time, it’s the force at the level of Bina, Hafetz Hesed, bestowal for the sake of bestowal. At the next level I again ask for the power of bestowal to receive for the sake of bestowal, but this time it’s the level of Hochma. This is how I move forward until I get to the level of final correction (Gmar Tikkun), the state of Keter. Continually, I ask for the power of bestowal and the difference is what desires it will rule over and what is its strength.

I realize that in order to acquire the power of bestowal, I have to sense the greatness of the Creator. To the degree of my ability to sense it, I will be able to “bend” my desire. During the preparation period and to the extent of the greatness of the Creator, I manage to correct my Lo Lishma and desire less for my own sake. This is how I prepare my bestowal desires for the next stage of bestowal for the sake of bestowal as well as my receiving desires for the state of receiving for the sake of bestowal.

Everything depends on the realization of the Creator’s greatness, which helps me rise above my egoism. It’s possible to transition from the verbal request to the internal demand in the heart only with the help of the Light. This is done by the Reforming Light.

The Delicacies Of Theology

Dr. Michael LaitmanBaal HaSulam, “A Handmaid that Is Heir to Her Mistress”: The sages of the nations of the world studied all the books of the children of Israel and turned them into delicacies to strengthen their faith, meaning their wisdom, called “theology.”

We see that all the religions took names, words and, concepts from the wisdom of Kabbalah and used it and turned it into something that is totally opposite from Kabbalah in order to prove that they are right. As if by playing with the words and definitions it is possible to change this world. Today it is gradually revealed, but in the meantime throughout history it brought about great destruction all over the world and especially the destruction of the people of Israel.

Until now all the religions were fueled by the wisdom of Kabbalah because without it they wouldn’t even know what to call the different forces and would remain at the level of ancient Greek mythology. By stealing the description of the spiritual system from the wisdom of Kabbalah, they pretended to understand its structure and thus grew very strong and lured billions of people who are attracted to that. Of course, it became a great flaw in the correction of the world.

But on the other hand, the flaw and the corruption takes us deeper into the matter of creation and by that we feel more clearly the oppositeness between the two forces: the evil force versus the good force. This path is actually necessary. There is no goodness without evil, and there is no evil without goodness.

A Baby’s First Steps In The Spiritual World

Dr. Michael LaitmanIf you don’t have the desire for bestowal, you don’t exist with regards to the spiritual world. Our world exists only thanks to our instinctive desires, but you have to generate the spiritual desire by yourself. You have to reveal it by yourself, to yearn for it.

You exist to the extent that you evoke the desire to bestow within you with the help of envy, ambition, and the influence of the environment. The moment you lose that desire, you immediately disappear and cease to exist. You are simply gone.

We can only get such a desire from the group. This is our collective desire that does not exist in any of us.

By our prayer the Light that Reforms influences these desires and they acquire the right spiritual form of true bestowal. In the meantime, I ask for it in a false manner, even though I am part of a group. I shout that I want to love the friends, to connect with them, but I have to understand that it is all a lie. But it is a genuine lie of a kid who wants to be a grown up! He simply cannot imagine something greater than that.

But thanks to the fact that you seemingly want to bestow, you draw upon you the upper Light that corrects your desire. This is why it is called: “You labored and you found.” You exert yourself to reach the goal but then the Light operates on you and you find something else—a true desire for spirituality.

You begin to weigh how to fulfill the desire that you received and to what extent. You already become wise and work with that desire. You examine it and try it one way or another, by raising a prayer again so that the upper one will teach you and give you an example.

Previously you didn’t want true bestowal, but now that you want it; you ask that the upper one will give you an example of how to do it. Then He reveals itself a bit for you and shows you how to act, and you try to imitate His actions.

After you performed your first action, seemingly successfully, suddenly everything breaks down and falls. It is as if a small kid has inaccurately placed one cube on top of another, and the whole building he has built collapses. Then you cry a little since you didn’t succeed, but thanks to your stubbornness, to the support of the environment, to mutual guarantee, you start all over again!

In The Force Field Of Mercy

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: From what material can we build the spiritual vessel among us?

Answer: Our vessel is the connection among us. We are not the vessels, but the negative particles by which we have to push ourselves. I have to push myself from myself, my “self” towards the friend. My soul is in the contact that is formed between us.

The friend does the same for me and the spiritual revelation takes place between us. The whole area between us is our spiritual vessel. We are only the negative particles which there is no need for any more; it’s our ego above which we have built the vessel of bestowal.

But we have built this vessel outside the ego; it’s made of our mutual Returning Light, mine and the friend’s. A spiritual phenomenon is revealed inside this vessel, in this field of our mutual efforts, the Direct Light is revealed in the Returning Light.

I am only the body of the spiritual Partzuf, and above me I build a “head” in which all of the Returning Light and the Direct Light is revealed. Of course we need a “body” above which we build the “head.” But the main thing is the “head” that already symbolizes the human level; there is an additional account here.

So our mission is to create this mutual field and to fill the space between us with the Returning Light, with bestowal. Then according to the level of bestowal, the level of the Returning Light, Hassadim, with which I fill the world, the Creator is gradually revealed. This is in the same vessels that now seem to me as strangers deliberately so that I have to exert myself to bestow upon them.

Imagine what the world would seem to you if you saw all of humanity as your own children, could you work independently? No you couldn’t. You can’t treat your own child as a stranger, and especially cannot hate him. But if you try to treat the friends as your own children, your efforts will bring you the spiritual feeling. This is why we were given the commandment: “Love thy neighbor as thyself.”

Discrimination: A Source Of Stress

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (from Cornell Chronicle): “Adolescents who grow up in poverty are more likely to report being treated unfairly, and this perception of discrimination is related to harmful changes in physical health, reports a new Cornell study published in the July issue of Psychological Science.

“One of the first studies to explore the role of discrimination as a factor in the well-known link between poverty and poor health, the research suggests that the stresses associated with experiencing social class discrimination have a sizable negative impact. …

“As expected, poverty was associated with higher levels of allostatic load, indicated by increased body mass index, blood pressure and levels of stress hormones. The researchers found that perceived discrimination accounted for 13 percent of these negative effects of poverty on allostatic load. …

“’It is surprising that social class discrimination is so ignored within the public discourse and the research literature,’ said lead author Thomas Fuller-Rowell, Ph.D. ‘There is considerable attention paid to how racial stereotypes play out in daily life and influence how we think about and treat people, but these types of discussions are almost nonexistent in relation to social class stereotypes.’”

My Comment: In an equal society, some diseases disappear due to equilibrium with society, and some due to balance with nature. As a result of harmony with the environment, we will obtain absolute health in the integrally dependent world.

The Future Is On The Web

Dr. Michael LaitmanToday, the main direction of our dissemination is the Internet. We organize roundtables and other similar events, publish a newspaper, provide courses for people, and thus provide a constant, as wide as possible, massive communication network. We must understand that we are not able to embrace the entire world outside of the virtual space, our entire future is online.

Let us unite for dissemination online. We simply do not have another option. Everything else comes with it. Let us try to find a way to reach all the people through the Web, for the world wide…

Why the Goal Does Not Attract?

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Why are we not able to elevate the spiritual goal above our corporeal life? What is stopping us?

Answer: We are not able to elevate the spiritual goal above our lives because we do not deem the Creator to be important. The spiritual goal is giving Him pleasure, but we do not speak about this as the most important thing.

The group must give me the realization of the importance of this. It is able to make anything important to me, even something ephemeral, by presenting it as something real and primary. The only thing needed is for the group to influence me and for me to lower my head before it. This requires reciprocity. My friends work with me, and I work in relation to them.

We learn from Baal HaSulam that basically the group only needs to raise the importance of the Creator slightly. Mainly, every one of us must cancel himself before the environment and then he will receive the recognition of this importance from his friends.

Pleasing the Creator will become the most important thing in the world for him, making everything else irrelevant, and then satisfaction of vital needs will stay somewhere beneath, once again having the ability to please the Creator. A person must realize this approach in his relationship with the group.
