I have received many letters expressing concern about the future…

Our perception of the world depends on our understanding of what’s going on here. If we would understand the Creator’s plan, we will discover happiness, safety and perfection.

Prior to the 21st century, humanity didn’t have any free will! We had no free will in our development as it was automatically driven by our constantly growing egoistic motivation – until it had reached its peak.

Today, our free will is becoming apparent as we have the opportunity to rise above our egoistic nature and no longer depend on it. By realizing this opportunity properly, we will directly – with the least amount of suffering – exit our present nature. Then, we will enter another dimension of the universe, where we will experience a different sensation of life – one that is eternal and perfect.

Our egoistic nature imprisons us; it attempts to absorb everything into itself, and thus remains empty and ultimately dies. And even if we don’t choose the path of conscious transition to the altruistic dimension, nature’s plan will be carried out anyway – just as it has been up to this point – only by the harsh influence of its strict laws.

We are the only intelligent creatures in the universe. Everything was created for us, because only we have the ability to enter the higher dimension. This task is serious and its goal is marvelous. Currently, humanity is in a state that induces a search, which is good, and that is why I’m not afraid, but full of hope.

A recent study shows that more than 1 in 100 American adults are behind bars – the highest incarceration rate in the world. Prison-related expenses are six times greater than those relating to the maintenance of universities.

My Response: It looks like there’s only one way out – to change social norms so as to reduce the amount of prisoners. If we can’t make such a correction, then we’ll have to pretend as if everything is okay. However, the evolution of egoism will eventually force us to adjust our civil and criminal codes, and every other code we have as well.

Is there a Higher Court for this?

A question I received from Chanah, in response to the post Why Kabbalah Disgusts Us: I thought that existence in egoism is only a shadow of a far removed reflection of the Creator – so the Creator is not actually “making misery” … it’s our inability to sense correctly, right? What I sense as struggle is the fact that I cannot rely on most of my perceptions to navigate to the truth, yet I’m required to move forward.

My Answer: If we would continue progressing egoistically, remaining in our inborn egoistic nature, we would navigate ourselves with whatever we know in our familiar egoistic understanding of the world. However, if we want to progress toward spirituality, we need to exit our egoistic nature and enter into an opposite, unknown nature. As such, we need to progress “in the dark,” so to speak, in qualities and feelings that we don’t yet perceive, and continue progressing like this until we master these new qualities and learn to live in them.

My article on the ego being the reason behind the global economic crisis was featured today (in Hebrew) on the Ynetnews site. Here’s its translation into English:

A Kabbalistic Interpretation of the Economic Crisis

The ego driving us to increase profits at each other’s expense is in complete contradiction to the balance between nature’s elements, which is vital to nature’s harmonious existence.

The events surrounding the American and global economy prove that this time it’s serious – the global economy is in a deep crisis. What is causing this crazy turbulence and how can the erosion be curbed? Kabbalah provides an explanation along with suggestions for solving the crisis.

Just as with any social system, interdependency is the name of the game. Crises where one element “infects” others and brings the market to the verge of collapse, are part of the signs of economic globalization. This is why we are seeing credit and real estate bubbles in the U.S. bursting and bringing about an infectious collapse of the stock exchange, in banks, companies and hedge funds all over the world.

Having said that, trying to solve economic crises using known models is destined to fail. It turns out that the economic system cannot be controlled or accurately predicted, and that one move in one place of the world causes serious repercussions in other places.

The wisdom of Kabbalah claims that if we understand the laws working on nature and abide by them, we can fortify our understanding of what the future holds, and possibly prevent the next crash. [Read more →]

Here’s how Kabbalah explains the obesity problem that has emerged over the recent years: The inability to fulfill our growing egoism evokes people’s need to compensate the feeling of their inner emptiness – the lack of fulfillment of their egoistic desires – by any means possible. So basically, start thinking about “how to love and give” – and you’ll lose weight!

And why are so many women obsessed with this issue? Because a woman in our world has much less possibilities to find something that really fulfills her. On the whole, women suffer more than men.

It is the assertion of ecofeminism that men take control over nature, while women integrate themselves into it. A man must essentially control himself, break his ego, and direct himself to the Creator. A woman, on the other hand, is ready to apply herself in this direction without much conflict.

This is, however, only while men and women are within the limits of our world, during their development through the degrees of concealment. Afterwards, when they cross the Machsom (barrier), they become equal in their spiritual work.

Are men the ones guilty for the Earth’s tough situation? Are women better for nature than men? Female egoism is less harmful to the Earth because it is more grounded and practical. Women who desire spirituality need to direct men toward it, showing that they will only respect and honor a man who directs himself toward spirituality.

Why is it difficult for men to feel women’s desires? A woman has a different desire, with a different property, to the desire of a man, like waves on different frequencies. That’s why it’s hard for a man to understand a woman.

What does a man need to do, to increase his desire to understand a woman? One needs to understand that a woman’s desire is a great (often the determining) force in man’s spiritual progress.

What is the difference between being inspired by the greatness of the goal when it comes from the group compared to when it comes from a woman? Are both elements essential? Initially, the importance of the goal comes from a woman, while in the group, the importance of the goal acquires the form of “bestowal and love” for others, for the Creator.

News Story: Dutch to legalize gay sex in public park

New rules of conduct passed by Dutch council officials will permit gay sex in public areas but fine dog owners who let their pets off the leash in Amsterdam’s Vondelpark.

As for the rules: “Condoms must always be cleared away, it must never take place in the neighborhood of children’s playgrounds and the sex must be restricted to the evening and night-time,” said Alderman Paul van Grieken.

The new park rules have the blessing of the Dutch police, who have urged all Dutch parks to follow Amsterdam’s lead.

But Amsterdam’s dog owners are less impressed. The new park code of conduct will set out stiff fines for dogs that are allowed to run around the Vondelpark off the leash.

One dog owner protested: “As long as the park has existed, we’ve been allowed to let our dogs run freely. It’s outrageous that we will be punished from now on but public sex won’t. If they can drop their trousers, why can’t I let my dog loose?”

My Response: In its final stage of evolution, egoism is offering all kinds of possibilities to fulfill any desire, and it’s digging its own grave in the process. Egoism is showing us that our will to receive is impossible to satisfy. Instead of giving us a feeling of satisfaction, egoism is causing us increasing pain and feelings of emptiness. Thus, against our will, we are realizing that the same ego which constantly drives our pursuit for new pleasures is actually our enemy. As such, we start hating our egoism, and look for ways to limit it and free ourselves from it. Feeling empty (depression, drugs, divorce and suicide) brings about the question “What is the meaning of life?” and in our search for its answer, we discover Kabbalah.

“Things will be bad. Very bad!” These are the opening words of a front page article in Haaretz, an Israeli newspaper for intellectuals, businessmen and politicians, read by the upper, educated class of the Israeli society. The basis for this statement is the widely recognized situation in the financial world.

My Response: According to the science of Kabbalah, finances are the basis of humanity’s entire egoistic activity; they are the value, the measurement and the means to compare all connections and powers in a human society. Nature operates us in our physical desires (i.e. those that our bodies demand): food, sex, and family. As egoism evolved, social desires emerged: wealth, power, fame, and knowledge. In other words, all of our social relations are based on and measured by wealth (money, finances). We can’t imagine what our lives would be like if this common value were to be disrupted. However, one day we will have no choice but to replace it with a different value: everyone working for the benefit of others, and in return, receiving a normal life in the body, and unity with the Creator in spirit. Such a transformation cannot be accomplished with our own strength, but only through a comprehensible revelation of the Creator.

Nature shows us the harmony that prevails in it and the complete bond that exists between all of its parts. Human society must become just like that.
The idea of collective awareness must be willingly accepted by everyone. And for this reason, there is yet much suffering that will hit the world, and there is no easier path to maturity than the path of Kabbalah.

Request for ML (from a comment to the post: Violence in Schools on the Rise): Dear Laitman, I think it would be great to add a commentary about how deeply depressed some humans are about living in the world today with some lines about how the future can bring joy and peace to them, especially to the young ones. Thanks Already.

My Response: These days, young people are more depressed than ever before. They see no purpose. They’ve exhausted their desires, having already developed through wealth, power, fame and knowledge, there is nothing left but sex and drugs. Sex will also gradually prove itself as being unfulfilling, and eventually they will even lose their desire for drugs – that’s how empty everything will feel!… And then we will hear the universal outcry of despair, when life will become worse than death, and yet, death will not be an option. This will immediately uncover the opportunity to achieve happiness, eternity and perfection in the qualities of love and giving. [Read more →]

It’s obvious that there is something special about the children born today: they are especially egoistic, shrewd and intelligent. They want to know “why” they have to do something an adult tells them, and only then do they agree to it, i.e. if they agree at all (usually they don’t!) They’re a completely new generation, with no desire to “succeed” in life, i.e. in our understanding of the term. First they need to prove to themselves that life has meaning. Otherwise, isn’t it better to just escape into drugs, various pleasures, and their own virtual world, rather than put in all sorts of efforts? What’s the point anyway?

We can’t handle them. We can’t restrain their egoism, and we can’t answer their questions. For these reasons, adults use all the means at their disposal to try and tame the new generation – in particular, to tame their hyperactivity. Hyperactivity, however, only seems hyper to adults. It’s quite normal for the new generation.

Many children regularly have permanent damage inflicted upon them through the use of addictive medications, such as Ritalin. These medications cause up to 70 side effects, including suicidal impulses, psychoses and arrhythmia, which parents aren’t warned of beforehand. Such medications are registered as narcotic substances, and are therefore considered as being dangerous drugs. At any rate, the practice of teachers who force parents to prescribe their children with Ritalin, under the fear of their children being expelled from school, is unacceptable. (There is another opinion that Ritalin is not a drug, because it doesn’t cause “withdrawals,” meaning one does not become physically dependent on it.)

Parents themselves can no longer manage their children, and are ready for anything! For example, according to the New York Times, when New York State authorities decided to stop the use of electroshock therapy on problematic children, they were confronted by the parents who insisted that electroshock isn’t actually cruel, that it teaches children to behave.

Kabbalah tells us that we live in a unique transitional period of reevaluating our evolution. In Ancient Babylon, where our evolution began, we made a decision to evolve egoistically. This decision was in spite of Abraham’s advice, who called for humanity’s altruistic evolution. And so we started evolving egoistically, under the influence of egoistic forces. Today, we are discovering that we have come to a dead end. We realize that we have positioned ourselves against Nature (the Creator). Kabbalah, Abraham’s testament, is becoming revealed to the world as a method for a different kind of existence: one that is integral, filled with love, and in balance with Nature. Kabbalah tells us that suffering will force us to accept Abraham’s way of existence, but that we don’t need to suffer. We can change our civilization by recognizing the oncoming global crisis and putting the wisdom of Kabbalah to use.

Are we wise enough to make the right choice?
