It Is Pointless To Regret What Was Swallowed In Ein Sof

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What should I do if I feel sorry about my previous failures and it prevents me from thinking about anything else?

Answer: When something has already happened there is not point feeling sorry about it, and you should let bygones be bygones. There is none else besides Him and you did whatever you could, according to “If I am not for we, who is for me,” and everything else is in the hands of the Creator since there is none else besides Him. We shouldn’t regret the past. The past is already swallowed in Ein Sof (Infinity). I am not responsible for it; it is the Creator acting through me.

I did everything that I could and my success or lack of it depends on the Creator. This is how He has arranged my actions wanting to show me how distant I still am from Him so that by my next action I will be able to connect to Him.

I shouldn’t think about the previous states now, as if it were I who chose and decided what they would be. These impure thoughts (Klipa) are a mistake, a real deception, if I think that I did something and it wasn’t the Creator who did everything through me. We cannot say this about the future, but we should undoubtedly refer to the past that way.

We repeat this mistake all our life. A person tortures himself about a mistake he made back at school or at the university, and regrets it his whole life, including yesterday and the last couple of moments, but it is forbidden to do so.

A person who is about to die has to say that his whole life passed and it didn’t really belong to him and it wasn’t he who did everything. The upper thought has created him and gave birth to him sometime in the past and put him through a certain path, through different actions, and now he is coming to the end of this path in a certain state and is moving on to the next state.

We cannot change anything in the past and cannot plan anything in the future, not even a couple of moments ahead. Now we discover this truth more and more in the world: All our long-term plans don’t work at all. You can act only at the current moment you are in, and your job is to adhere to the Creator. But the thought about the moment that has passed or about the next moment to come is a sign of lack of faith, of lack of adhesion, of lack of bestowal.

In my current state, I am totally adhered only to the Creator. Make your desire His desire and your actions like His actions and there is nothing else you have to do; it is very simple.

Regretting the past is a great terrible Klipa, impure force, that is constantly depicted to us in pictures from the past forcing us to feel great sorrow: Why did I do that; why did I hurt someone; how did I go wrong; what did I do wrong, etc.  it is a well known mistake and everyone goes through it.

How To Attain The Upper One

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Each lower Partzuf of the world of Atzilut as well as of the world of Adam Kadmon, clothes on the upper one. What does it mean “clothes”?

Answer: Clothing means attaining. I clothe on you, i.e., on your reason and your actions. It means that you attain them.

The upper one descends to the lower in order to clothe upon him. And then, when the lower holds on to him, the upper one begins to raise him to a higher level in order to help him understand it.

The lower feels that the upper gives birth to him, gives him everything, and takes care of him. And since the lower empties himself and procreates the next Partzufim, he wants to attain the upper: to know who and what he is and what is the purpose of his existence.

After all, now he feels the same need to take care of his own lower Partzufim. In order to fill them, he appeals to the upper one, because one can receive fulfillment only from the world of Infinity.

It turns out that he is obliged to communicate with the upper. Communication with the upper and his attainment is called “clothing.”

For one thing, the lower has the need to give to the one who is beneath him. For another thing, such need and lack of answers leads him to connection with the upper. For yet another thing, he is prepared to attain the upper, because he and the upper are alike as two drops of water.

Such clothing of Partzufim is always completely identical. The lower who clothes on the upper, sees in the upper the same model he has inside. He sees in the upper his own structure, like his own reflection in the mirror. He, therefore, has no problem attaining the upper. That’s why clothing means attainment. The lower sees himself exactly as the upper one wants him to be.

A Center For All Investments And Hopes

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Where is the center of the group found and how do we direct ourselves towards it? Is this a mental activity?

Answer: The center of the group is found in a place towards which all eyes and all hearts are directed, at the point where the friends expect to get a response for all of their efforts.

We have a common task and each one of us invests in the center of the group to the extent of his efforts and desires. In other words, the center of the group is the center of all the investments and hopes, the location of the prayers, and from there all of the requests rise upward. We invest all of our lives in the center of the group and we want the center to become the conclusion, the result of our lives.

We want to discover the guarantee there, for otherwise we cannot discover the Creator. The guarantee and the Creator, the Kli and the Light are discovered together as one thing. One cannot be without the other.

From the beginning of creation, there is no Light without a Kli and naturally, there is no Kli without the Light. This is what the Ari tells us in “The Tree of Life”: “Behold, that before the emanations were emanated and the creatures were created, the upper simple light had filled the whole existence.” This is to say, the reality and the Light already existed. One never existed without the other.

In the thought of creation, in the program of the Creator, the two components already existed as a single whole. There is no benefit to the Light if there is no Kli.

Therefore the center of the group is the place in which the Light and the desire need to be discovered together. This is the place in which the Creator is discovered within the creatures as a result of the correction of our properties.

The Kabbalists say that there must be at least ten people who invest effort in accord with the complete spiritual structure of the Ten Sefirot. If the group of ten (Minyan) invests effort in order to be a single whole, then in its center the Creator is discovered.

In order to be a single whole, they must maintain the general rules: “Don’t do to your friend what would be hateful to you, and you shall love your friend as yourself,” which means, to yearn for connection, unity, to be like one person, so that in a link between us, the characteristics that we attribute to the Creator will be discovered.

For we mold the Creator within the Kli, within our desire. And the moment that this desire will be somewhat like the Creator, to the smallest degree, then to that degree we can immediately discover Him. For this, a complete Kli is required, a HaVaYaH, the smallest Ten Sefirot, but it already exists.

To the extent that we kill our egoism, the image of the Creator begins to live in us. The attributes of the Creator live only in those people who kill their egoism for His sake, for the sake of His attributes of bestowal.

The center of the group is everything! There, in that center, all the worlds, Partzufim, Sefirot, the entire spiritual ladder, and the world of infinity are revealed. Everything takes place only at that center because when we begin to reveal the true concept of the group, it turns into the limitless vessel of the world of infinity for us. We learn all the systems—the entire world of Atzilut—from the center of the group.

So, when the creators of The Book of Zohar got closer to each other, to this center, they attained something new and told us about it. Thus they wrote The Book of Zohar, chapter by chapter, from attainment to attainment, defined by the measure of their unity.

Attainment comes from a new place every time: from Rabbi Yossi, Rabbi Abba, Rabbi Elezar, Rabbi Shimon himself, depending on what Sefira of the 10 was the most important in this attainment, and a new look, a new perspective, opened through its properties. Each Sefira is a different quality; that is why we see a complete structure through the prism of one quality or through the prism of another, which helps the understanding.
