Food Riots: Approaching The Edge

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News: “What causes riots? That’s not a question you would expect to have a simple answer. But today, Marco Lagi and buddies at the New England Complex Systems Institute in Cambridge, say they’ve found a single factor that seems to trigger riots around the world.

“This single factor is the price of food. Lagi says that when it rises above a certain threshold, social unrest sweeps the planet….

“But what’s interesting about this analysis is that Lagi and co say that high food prices don’t necessarily trigger riots themselves, they simply create the conditions in which social unrest can flourish. ‘These observations are consistent with a hypothesis that high global food prices are a precipitating condition for social unrest,’ say Lagi and co….

“That leads to an obvious thought. If high food prices condition the world for social unrest, then reducing the prices should stabilise the planet.

“Today, the food price index remains above the threshold but the long term trend is still below. But it is rising. Lagi and co say that if the trend continues, the index is likely to cross the threshold in August 2013.

“If their model has the predictive power they suggest, when that happens, the world will become a tinderbox waiting for a match.”

Comment: According to Kabbalah, all the events in the world are caused only by the need to bring humanity to correction, similarity with nature, balance among everyone. This is reflected in the transition to a society of reasonable consumption where everyone consumes to the extent he needs to exist, and not more. In this case, there will be enough resources for everyone.

But reaching this state is possible only under the condition of “mutual guarantee” where “one is for all and all are for one.” Kabbalah explains how to achieve such a connection between everyone in the world. Otherwise, incorrect distribution of food will lead to a world war.

The Media Is A False-Bottomed Case

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: A person watches TV several hours a day on average. Modern programs, movies, and shows literally promote violence and murder. How is it that, on the one hand, we want to propagate the right values in society, while on the other hand, we poison people’s minds with on-screen violence from their very childhood?

My Answer: As you can see, the people are drugged, while the governments are doing their own thing. And the same is true around the world, except for countries with authoritarian governments, such as Iran and Venezuela.

In all places, media as a whole and television in particular know no bounds.

This drugging is no accident, and it will remain until the people display their attitude toward the goal. Only then will they get the strength to solve this problem. The problem is that modern communication channels reveal the evil of our lives and thereby aim us at the goal. So if you begin to simply liquidate the “good-for-nothing” media, how would people discover their evil?

We are dealing with two opposites in one phenomenon. In reality, the Creator uses this evil to direct us toward goodness, but toward true goodness and not the fake idyll of good media, fostering good boys and girls. That is not the purpose. From our end, we must aspire to correction. And our correction lies through love of others as ourselves, and toward love for the Creator. This is the only way to reach our goal. Simply watching the “good” kind of television won’t help us. For more read Baal HaSulam’s article, “Building the Future Society.”

Do You Want To Be Happy? Be Happy!

Dr. Michael LaitmanResearch: Foundation for Future Studies (Stiftung fur Zukunftsfragen) has published findings on personal happiness in Europe. “The most positive outlook on life came from the people of Denmark, with almost all of those interviewed (96%) saying they were happy. In contrast, the Germans (61%) came in at a lowly third to last place, justifying their reputation as pessimists.”

68% – Europe (average),
96% – Denmark,
80% – Greece,
79% – Italy,
77% – France,
72% – The Netherlands and UK,
63% – Austria,
61% – Turkey, Germany,
37% – Russia.

My Comment: How can the Greeks, in debt and other problems, be happier than the Turks and Germans? As we see, everything is relative, and happiness is not in abundance, although in general, women, country folk, couples, well-off people are happier than men, urban dwellers, singles, and low-income people. If we give a person “everything necessary for existence” and the joy of reciprocity, warmth, and justice, he will be happy!

Using Bureaucracy To Deal With The Crisis

Dr. Michael LaitmanOpinion: (Philipp Roesler, German Economics Minister): “German Economy Minister Philipp Roesler called for a euro zone ‘stability council’ with the power to sanction countries that mismanage their finances.

“Such a council would be independent of governments and have the power to help countries implement economic reforms, if need be by determining where financial aid from fellow members would best be spent, Mr. Roesler, who is also vice-chancellor in Angela Merkel’s government, told reporters.

“‘A stability council wouldn’t mean – “you’re not getting any money”, but rather we’ll apportion it for you,’ he added.

“Mr Roesler, the head of the small pro-business Free Democrats (FDP), also called for ‘competitiveness tests’ to determine how countries were managing their finances.”

My Comment: Needless to say, this decision is very much German. But we shall soon see that without the ballast of industrially developing countries, Germany itself will fall into the crisis more deeply than anybody else. And no establishment will help until they change egoistic society to a “family.”

Alienated Youths Are To Blame For The Riots

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (from Dailymail.co.uk): “Tony Blair yesterday took a swipe at David Cameron’s ‘muddle-headed’ handling of the fallout from the riots. The former Prime Minister suggested Mr. Cameron was wrong to blame the riots on a general ‘moral decline’ in Britain.…

“Mr Cameron said last week that he was determined to tackle a ‘slow-motion moral collapse’ and mend Britain’s ‘broken society.’

“Mr Blair suggested the Prime Minister was wrong to order a review of all social policy in the wake of the riots. ‘Focus on the specific problem and we can begin on a proper solution,’ Mr Blair said in an article in the Observer. ‘Elevate this into a high-falutin’ wail about a Britain that has lost its way morally and we will depress ourselves unnecessarily, trash our own reputation abroad, and worst of all, miss the chance to deal with the problem in the only way that will work.’…

“The ‘big cause,’ Mr Blair said, lay with alienated youths from dysfunctional families living outside ‘any canons of proper behaviour’ – a phenomenon affecting most modern societies in the developed world.”

My Comment: The pride for their country, which they habitually call Great Britain, is praiseworthy. But let us ask, who but the government turned newborns into such youths, who educated them in that way? A person is a complete reflection of his environment.

If you do not care about what affects a person, then according to his nature, he will choose the worst. Our future depends only on our own upbringing and that of our children! (See the article “The Freedom“)

All We Lack Is Love

Dr. Michael LaitmanOur world has become global. In other words, the principal law unfolding in the universe is the law of a circle. Global means round, as is the globe of Earth.

We have become interconnected and interdependent. And if so, you cannot get into confrontations; instead, you must reach such an order where people will have warm, cordial relationships and become considerate of one another. In fact, what is mutual guarantee exactly? It is when I sign for you, you’re for me, and everyone is for everybody else. And so it will be all around the Earth.

We are moving toward it very rapidly. The speed with which the world is changing confirms it, and the pace of the changes will keep increasing. Very soon we will reveal that ours is not the only country that can solve the problems by way of mutual guarantee. Moreover, if you resolve them while sitting at the “round table” together with all the others, you feel internal, emotional satisfaction thereby.

They look at you with respect because you have compromised in some small degree because you start to consider the interests of others. A wave of warmth washes over you from within, and you feel safe; you are together with others. This way you begin to reveal the inner power present in this oneness, similar to the upper force.

Very soon, the whole world will see it since in truth, all people involved in protests need only one thing: love. It’s just that they cannot express it.

What Is ”Mutual Guarantee”?

You Won’t Succeed Alone

Dr. Michael LaitmanToday we are living in special times: The world has reached the state when all of mankind feels as if we’re all in one boat. It provides excellent opportunities for everyone to finally start living the common law of nature—the law of mutual guarantee.

A global, integral crisis has overtaken the world. This means that we  are all in the same “boat,” one “ship,” at the bottom of which everyone is “drilling a hole” and doesn’t care about anyone else. And indeed, nobody will get ahold of themselves unless we all get together now and start supporting each other.

This is what we call mutual guarantee. I become everybody’s guarantor, meaning that they will not break this law. And every one of them, in turn, signs for everybody else, including me. And then, I find within myself the courage not to hurt another, not to “drill a hole in the boat.”

If in this way, we come to this common law of nature, we’ll definitely feel that we lack nothing. After all, you are equivalent to nature, so what can be better than that? You will feel happy and healthy and completely secure. No one will dare to approach your country’s borders and claim the right to it.

And all of this is thanks to the fact that you are equivalent to the laws that are dictated to us from Above. And all these laws come down to one, “love your neighbor as you love yourself,” the law of mutual guarantee that helps us reach such a relationship.

From Vertical Power To Round Table

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: I think power should come not from the government but from the people who lead the government to correct decisions.

Answer: It is more natural for the wisdom of Kabbalah and for the new world. In fact, we are transitioning from egoistic relationships to the “round,” global system. The world has become interconnected in all its parts and is taking an altruistic form thereby. This leads to the abolishment of political power, and that is why they no longer know how to run the country or lead the people. This is because their government is a line that extends from the top down, vertical power, backed by military force and money.

But the old order is disappearing, and people are starting to suddenly going out into the streets with various demands. They are pushed by nature: People’s desires are unified in “circles,” and today they are getting stronger, more tangible, and more pronounced. We will see these signs all over the world.

This is the natural course of things, and nothing can be done about it. The people will demand a new order without even knowing what it is. Riots will ignite. Governments ruling by force and by money will fall, while the people will rise to meet the changes. We are headed for this time.

There is only one solution: mutual guarantee. People still have to “take power.” But how will they do it? How will they avoid the mistakes of the previous government and find a new way? We need to unite to meet the “round,” global, and integral world. The method of unification is in the hands of the Kabbalists, and we must hurry to avoid the problems and sufferings that are possible in this way.

For example, if Europe already knew and understood how to unite, and took an appropriate action, it would retain itself. But instead, the European Union is moving toward collapse.

Spare Something On Reforesting Europe

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News: (From ScienceDaily.com): “As the Greek economy maintains its slide towards default and the global climate continues to change for the worse, one organization [The Coalition of Financially Challenged Countries with Lots of Trees (CoFCCLoT)], writing in Biotropica, has come up with some novel answers to both problems. Reforest the country to offset historic deforestation and reintroduce long extinct animals such as lions, boosting the economy through eco-tourism.”

My Comment: Kabbalah suggests to divide all the necessary work in the country among people so that a person works at least four hours a day, but if his work is required by the society, then he works as much as necessary. Restoring ecological balance should receive special attention. The rest of the time should be dedicated to theoretical and practical studies of “mutual guarantee.”

Cameron: It Is Necessary “To Mend Broken Society” Immediately

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News: “The UK Prime Minister David Cameron has pledged a review of all government policies following last week’s riots in England to ensure they are bold enough to fix what he’s called a ‘broken society’…. He said that mending society was back at the top of his agenda and that his approach would be ‘no holds barred.’

“He said he would review all policies, speed up plans to improve parenting and education and turn around the lives of 120,000 ‘troubled’ families. To tackle a ‘moral collapse’ he pledged a war on gangs…. Speaking in his constituency he said he is determined to take on and defeat the long-standing social problems that he believes led to the violence. David Cameron believes that the results of reviews will help his government ‘mend broken society.’”

Comment: The broken society can only be “mended” by someone who understands the disease and how to cure it. It is impossible to achieve this by egoistic and forceful methods, or even by means of any infusions of cash. What is required is a wide public discussion of a rehabilitation and education plan for all members of society in the spirit of “mutual guarantee” with the participation of the media.
