State Security Agencies Out Of Commission

Dr. Michael LaitmanToday an economic expert is someone who knows how to make money at another’s expense without breaking the law. But we’re talking about another kind of economy, one which everyone must know because it allows a person to fulfill his soul, and not his pocket.

We provide all the physical necessities, everyone receives what they need, and we make sure that both children and adults learn to stay within the family budget. That is our first task: to take care of people’s basic needs, such as shelter, food, clothes, some work, a lot more study, and so on. And everything beyond the necessities must be purified and transferred to the spiritual domain.

That doesn’t mean that the owner of a factory making decorations will need to shut down his business. No, that is necessary as well, but only in a form and measure that doesn’t involve our ego. Everything must be balanced, but not by a state security agency; rather, it must be balanced by man himself whom we are raising to the human degree.

We cannot and don’t intend to issue arbitrary directives: “As of today everyone gets only one bottle of milk per day,” and so on. We need to elevate people to a level where they would be willingly content with quality, moderate consumption.

In the new economy, nothing can be actualized without education and the ascent of humanity. Essentially, we leave our “beast” in the material economy, while in all other aspects the economy assumes a spiritual form.

So, we have two economies: material and spiritual. The material economy is built upon monetary exchange, just as before, although perhaps the situation will change going forward. Whereas the spiritual economy must immediately complement all that a person is missing. His competitive aspirations, jealousy, hatred, inner impulses, “the grass is greener,” and so on, all these voids must be filled.

One cannot be abandoned midway without assistance. And education is essential for this. When the masses connect to this process and accept these explanations, everyone will have an environment that fulfills, obligates, and elevates him. And the more intensely he is gripped by hatred, jealousy, estrangement, and ambition, the more clearly he will feel that it is precisely the right environment that can fulfill these desires with mutual guarantee, while in the egoistic world they remain empty.

He will not decrease his aspirations, but increase them and actually fulfill them. Our essence cannot be pacified, so let it grow, but grow correctly.

Why Can’t We Relax

Dr. Michael LaitmanBaal HaSulam, “Peace in the World“: How can we even try to ease one’s mind by promising him equality with all the people in the collective? For nothing is further from human nature than that, while one’s sole inclination is to soar higher, above the whole collective.

Even if we could reach “fair” distribution and social “justice,” wouldn’t the tendency to be more than others appear in every individual? Why do I have to be like everyone else? Can we bear it?

Fair distribution in itself is opposite to our nature, our essence. After all, we each feel our own uniqueness. There is nothing more hateful than to be like others, to be identical. I have to be different in someway, opposite or superior to others; otherwise I don’t feel that I am human.

Animals can be similar to one another and so can undeveloped people. But we’ve already grown out of it. We’ve been through ages of evolution at the levels of the still, vegetative, and animate nature of the human degree. Now we have reached the level of “human within human,” and so no one can be satisfied by being like everyone else. It could have been so in the age of slavery or feudalism, but today’s world is changing. Look at what’s happening in China or India, where people used to naturally be inclined to be like others. Today it isn’t so.

Hence, it’s impossible to establish social justice because by nature, no one can be equal to another. It is impossible to reach social equality in our world on our own. When we lived in tribes, everything was fine, but today there is no chance to reach peace, satisfaction, and common consent that we won’t breach shortly thereafter.

This is a great problem, and it stems from our uniqueness. The Creator has “cunningly” inserted this “provocative” attribute into us, which breaks our social initiatives and doesn’t allow us to relax and to agree with being like everyone else.

And although we have clarified that it comes from a sublime reason, that this attribute extends to us directly from the Creator, who is single in the world and the Root of all creations, still, out of the sensation of singularity, when it sits within our narrow egoism, it affects ruin and destruction until it became the source of all the ruins that were and will be in the world.

So, despite the efforts of the demonstrators, sincere fighters, and instigators, nothing will help us. The conflicts will never allow us to reach an agreement at the round table. Every agreement will bring about new corrections and reprimands. No agreement will ever last for more than a moment.

It’s not just that people cannot be equal to one another. Today mutual connection is required because people have to adapt to nature this way. This is the second big problem: How can we reach connection above all the differences, all the desires, and all the uniqueness of every individual?

We have to “erase” this uniqueness; otherwise, how can we connect? Or we must use this uniqueness in order to connect.

Now we are in a very delicate position: Man’s nature with all its contradictions and uniqueness is pushing him to use others. And opposite to it, there is the necessity to unite.

The Era Of Global Education

Dr. Michael LaitmanI need to create the type of environment and atmosphere around me which will constantly convince me of the fact that being interconnected and compliant with others will lead me to a safer and better life. It is a life where I will feel good.

You take the formula of total interconnection between all elements in nature and reveal it to people in a way that they can understand. You explain to them that it’s good to care for one another because it is in this way that you become similar to nature that surrounds you. In so doing, you will benefit a great deal because you obtain harmony with nature. Then, all forces of nature, both concealed and revealed, will be benevolent towards us, and we’ll benefit in every way.

Let’s conduct an experiment and see how much we’ll succeed in business and in economics if we start treating each other with more compassion, like members of one family. This is difficult; however, if we begin to convince each other subtly, without any pressure, then surely no one will lose.

I teach my children not to fight, not to provoke others, to be polite, to say please and thank you, to share, and to make friends. I teach them these things because I know that this behavior will provide them with maximum safety. I don’t teach my children to punch people or to steal because first and foremost, I want them to be safe in life. If they are kind to people, they will always find a more or less normal condition to exist in.

Why can’t we establish these interrelations worldwide? We’ve considered all this before—in our visions of utopian societies.

We have to enlighten people about the era we’re entering into. Everyone must understand that we live in the era when everything is interconnected, where everyone is like a part of a single family, and everyone is dependent upon one another. This is the era where we reeducate ourselves to become a global and integral element of society, the era where each person understands his uniqueness, his own unique contribution to the world, and for this reason should feel responsible for his part. Each person has to feel this way in relation to all the others.

The Solution Is Not Where The Protesters Are Looking

Dr. Michael LaitmanBaal HaSulam, “Peace in the World:” But it is only natural that under such conditions the weak and the exploited proliferate, until there are enough of them to protest against the successful and start quarrels and fights. And from here emerged the attribute of “peace” in the world. Thus, all those attributes – mercy, charity, and peace – emerged and were born from the weakness of truth.

This is exactly what we are observing today. Revolutionaries cause unrest, striving for total changes. Why? Because there is no truth in the world. They say: “We will establish truth on our own.”

However, their subconsciousness contains other categories which they would like to “deal with.” Previously it really allowed change within society and achieved certain compromises, which was followed by a period of peace. But today it is no longer possible, and this is why demonstrations and unrest will not prove to be beneficial. They may lead to bloodshed and revolutions, like in Egypt and other countries, but the goal will not be attained.

We must stand in a circle and unite, and we really must attain the truth instead of using palliatives for it. The Israeli State Commission is trying to “rob their belly to cover their back,” rehashing the budget to find additional possibilities, but all these things are preliminary measures that only slightly cool down the passions. Before, similar measures could actually bring the desired result because Nature was not yet demanding unity from us. Now these undertakings will not even give us a short term effect, we will not even be able to realize them. They will only cause pain and anger in us, and lead to even heavier conflicts.

Today correction can only be realized by directing ourselves towards the category of truth. And this path lies through unity, the mutual guarantee.

The government will not find the solution in their dated arsenal. Essentially, the government should be taking care of the external safety of their country and a normal life within it. Of course, it also doesn’t forget about itself. But considering the problematic conditions that the government and the people have now encountered, we must be explaining that no half measures can help from this point forward. There is no point in expecting some kind of effect from them because that will only prolong the problem, fail to correct the situation, and in the end the reaction of the masses will be even stronger.

This is why we need to use any opportunity to explain these things. Even if people do not understand us today, another failure will make them understand that old methods no longer work and then they might remember what we have been saying. It is not easy to raise children, so there is not much to say in this regard. Humanity will also need to learn a little through blows since it is traveling down a “beaten track,” which lies between the good path and the path of catastrophes.

Keeping The Finger On The World’s Pulse

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Social protests are spreading throughout the world. How should we operate in these conditions?

Answer: We have to give the demonstrators materials that explain what is actually happening in the world and why it is awakening. These materials have to refer whoever reads them to our websites where they will find more detailed information about current problems and their solution.

We don’t incite revolutions. On the contrary, we want everything to happen peacefully, through internal work, through one’s inner changes. It is good that the demonstrators are shouting in the streets, but then they should realize that it all depends on inner correction.

Our friends should take part in the demonstrations, give out flyers, and be among the demonstrators in order to feel them in order to understand who they are and what they want, in order to absorb their desires. They need to be closer to them—it will help to prepare better materials with our message. They don’t need to shout with them or to join the riots. They should only look for the right way to approach people and to explain to them that correction is only achieved through connection between us, only through mutual guarantee.

The World Is Ready To Hear

We Have To Grow To Reach Social Justice

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: On one hand people are coming out to the streets demanding equality and justice, certain that they can achieve it. On the other hand, we call these demands utopian and unrealistic. How can we let them understand that what they desire cannot be attained by force, but only through upbringing, unification, and mutual guarantee?

Answer: To them social justice means looting the cashboxes of the rich and giving out the contents. “We’ll pounce on the tycoons and finish them off.”

But we say, “No, first you have to understand the reason for what is happening.” Global tendencies are unraveling right before our very eyes and the problem here is not just stratification into the rich and poor, but a multi-faceted crisis. So let’s understand what this crisis really is. You see for yourselves that you won’t achieve anything through revolutions or by artificially distributing the resources. Real examples of this are modern Egypt, 20th century Russia, and Israeli kibbutzes. You will never achieve success by disrupting the natural flow of things.

Therefore, our answer is unification, especially if the issue at stake today is social justice and fairness. But how can we unite? Let’s study this question, and let’s learn to do it correctly. If our initiatives are aimed at justice, equality, and general balance, then is it possible to realize this without unification of people? In this case the means does not match the objective we have set.

Do you want to make everyone equal? First bring your desire, your foundations into concordance with this. Otherwise you and your group of a thousand people just want to establish your own social justice, but there is another group of two thousand people who have their own idea about justice. New groups are continually springing up, and the process is joined by the army, the government, unions, and tycoons, while in the meantime the enemies are shrewdly crawling up to the boundaries, and they have their own idea of justice.

So how will all of this end? What do you want to do? Can you attain the goal without balancing out all of the contradictions, without attaining mutual guarantee? Is it possible to build anything solid until everyone understands that they depend on one another and have to support one another? Only within this mutual guarantee will we reveal justice.

We cannot just give out money to someone. Is that just? There has to be a social consensus, a general agreement. And therefore, we say: First of all, we have to start a discussion, take each other’s interests into account, and unite. Mutual guarantee is what we need. If we attain it, then we will be able to keep going. But before we do, there are only conflicts and mutual deception ahead for us.

Question: I agree, this sounds logical. However, the notion of mutual guarantee still seems abstract. It’s unclear how to implement it….

Answer: That means you still aren’t able to convince people that without this condition, it is impossible to address anything else. You have not discerned this for yourself yet and have not demonstrated it to others as an indestructible foundation without which we cannot build anything.

Let everyone try to prove you wrong; you still have to accept only this condition: that we won’t manage without total mutual agreement on the fact that every person depends on everyone and everyone depends on every person. When we all agree with the general principles, then we will be able to find the right solution.

No matter what we desire—be it social justice, equality, mutuality, or unification, this is possible only on the condition that we all get together at a round table, that the whole nation sits down around it and reaches all-around agreement. Without this, we won’t budge an inch.

People will say, “But that’s impossible!” But how do you know: No one has tried it yet. One way or another, without this, only dictatorial methods will work.

In reality this is impossible only because we lack upbringing or social influence. This is what we have to form.

If the critical condition for future prosperity is impossible to fulfill today, that means we have to work on dissemination, explaining to people what mutual guarantee is and how to attain it. We have to involve the mass media, use every possible channel of influence, and show every person that this is the most important thing for us. This is integral upbringing, by virtue of which we will attain agreement, unity, and mutual understanding, and then we will take the next steps.

We must gradually build the phases of the path, showing people that it is impossible to act otherwise. Without the initial period of upbringing, it is impossible to go on to realizing the mutual guarantee because people must be internally ready for it.

How We Help The World

Lagging Guides

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: How do we explain our view of the crisis and fair distribution to the masses? After all, they regard it as a utopia.

Answer: We will not have to wait long. People who understand economics and the international situation are deeply worried about what is currently going on. They tremble inside as they see what is happening. If a regular person were to find himself in a similar state, it would change the way he thinks.

We are approaching a hopeless state. Two crises, economic and ecological, are driving us into a trap. In this regard, the upper governance is not leaving us with any freedom of choice. A person with a point in the heart is brought to the wisdom of Kabbalah through suffering, and only then does he begin to choose. On the other hand, the masses are always driven by disasters.

And this is why everything depends on you. As soon as you begin to realize that which is entrusted to you, disasters will retaliate, and we will start reaching a balance with Nature. And then ecology will also pleasantly surprise you since you will reveal new forces in Nature.

Naturally, we wish to accelerate the process. And I am optimistic about it because every day I watch economic and financial specialists, as well as scientists, describe the situation in a more harmonious way.

We are the ones who lag behind the rate of development, those who must disseminate the message of unity around the world. And we are very much behind. This is what scares me.

With What Right Do You Threaten The Rich?

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: In Israel, a new phenomenon is arising: threats directed at the rich. People accuse them of becoming rich at the expense of the nation and demand that they return the money….

Answer: Suppose I was born in China to a royal family, and you are the son of my gardener. Are we guilty of that? No. But in the meantime I am being prepared for life in high society, and you, to mow the lawn. Can we, in some way, compare ourselves? We don’t know all the hidden reasons as to why we have such destinies. Could it be that in the previous incarnation the situation was the opposite? In order to come to conclusions, one needs to see the entire picture, which will remain hidden from our eyes until the very end of correction.

Some people are successful in life, and others receive inheritances from their parents. Some make a career on the Internet in their youth, whereas you and I don’t have enough intelligence or maybe luck to do that. This means that we simply don’t know, don’t see, where it all begins and ends.

People don’t merely become rich. Some received money through an inheritance, and for others the conditions were “arranged” from Above, according to their efforts, abilities, and the general plan.

Hence, if a person is rich within a legislative framework and according to the accepted norms of society, you can not ask him for his money. He paid his taxes. He is clean before the society. It is true that after taxes he keeps 5 million dollars and you only keep 500. But with what right do you intend to confiscate his property, which is like threatening a stranger with a knife in a dark alley?

And you also want to call it “justice?” On what basis?

If you show contempt for the rich and curse them, it is because you are jealous of them. How would you describe justice to yourself if you were in his place? It is similar to the Bolsheviks in Russia who forcefully confiscated the capitalists’ money.

You must understand that “initiatives” of this kind stem from the desire to destroy the country. They will never build, they can only destroy. A person who calls this “justice” is actually working cunningly for the detriment of all, and above all, for the detriment of the poor. In this way we won’t achieve anything.

The Effect Of The Majority

Dr. Michael LaitmanThere are two approaches when it comes to working with the environment: education and upbringing. When we educate people, we tell them about the “round,” interconnected world, which must exist in balance with nature, and the network that connects our society, which we all must join. We explain what a global, integrated world is, and what the crisis, which is unraveling between us, and the common network entails. We teach this wisdom to people, to every person to the extent of their abilities, in a form which suits them. We speak about nature, its laws, and this is called education.

The second component of global enlightenment is rearing. Within the framework of upbringing we invite people to be active in groups, different social systems. We explain how to properly establish connections, involve psychologists, and hold group events. Studying is also a part of this, but the practical part is the most important. People must perceive, adopt, and respond internally to the different forms of bestowal and unity shown on television, radio, newspapers, and so on.

And then, the reforming Light comes to us due to all the efforts of the society and gradually changes us. The double influence of education and upbringing activates the power of the masses, which is a special effect of the “majority,” as it is written: “In the multitude of people is the  king’s glory” (Proverbs). This is not just a multitude; it is the majority, where a higher dimension becomes revealed.

Without your friends, you alone with your point in the heart are zero. This way you will not reach anything. But when you make an effort together on your spiritual path, you will succeed due to the effect of the masses, regardless of how miserable your efforts might be. And if humanity was to join this work, changes would happen immediately, the very next day.

A Demonstration Of Our Own Ignorance

Dr. Michael LaitmanBaal HaSulam, “The Nation”: The reward for intellectual work is higher than for physical work. And the work of quick ones pays more than the work of slower ones. And a single person should receive less than the one who has a family. Yet, the time for the work should be equal for everybody; also the distribution of the fruit of the work should be equal. So, how can we bridge all of those differences?

How can we establish fair distribution if we all are so different? People’s productivity is different. You can’t make the same demands of them and measure their effort according to a unified criteria. It follows that we don’t have any basis, foundation, for building a just society.

We have to explain this to those who call for social justice in the streets. How can there be social justice? How do you measure it if everyone is different by nature, and you don’t have the tool to measure their differences? By nature, we are all diverse; we have no criteria for comparison, which means that we will never achieve fair distribution. One has to be at the level of the Creator in order to divide everything justly.

In fact, what each and every one of us receives today is just distribution. Indeed, what you receive every moment in life actually comes from Him. This is justice; this is what you are entitled to. He allots you an absolutely accurate share.

It is the Creator who gives you all the conditions you live in. Perhaps you disagree with Him and the system, but this is what He gives you and tells you: “Work from this point. According to the qualities of your soul, you have to be precisely in this state. This state is the best for you, and you can advance from this point only. Start working and you will get more. For now, you received all you need in order to advance, fairly and according to all the rules.”

Even Pharaoh admitted that “the Creator is the righteous and Pharaoh is a villain.” Even though you disagree, or are unaware, or are not ready yet, it still is true. How can you start moving? Where do you go? Only towards bestowal!

If you want to advance and change yourself, the environment, the society, and the world, you have to learn from the Creator what it means to be righteous: to relate to everyone and help them achieve fair distribution on greater and greater levels of bestowal. We get fair distribution on every level until the final correction. It is there that fair distribution occurs, and the calculation is very accurate. You cannot ascend the next step on the spiritual ladder before you agree 100% with what happens, meaning before you obtain the vessels of bestowal and agree that this is justice.

So, what are all those demonstrations that call for justice in the streets for? What demands can you bring forward? Improve the environment and the connection between yourselves, and then you’ll rise to a higher level of justice. According to your degree, you are getting what you deserve. A higher level will bring you something else. What will that be? Start bestowing upon each other and you’ll see. The Light is always there. As you rise higher together with the society, you get more. You go lower, you get less.

So, what can you demonstrate? About not knowing what’s going on? Who are you demanding justice from? Everyone is in the same boat. Nothing good will come from that. The revolutions in Egypt and Libya are the best examples of that.

We have to understand that we always are in the corrected system. We can only rise in it towards increasingly exalted states of mutual correction. You exist in the Light of Infinity and receive from it only according to your degree, meaning as much as you can absorb. It fills you; it has everything that you will ever wish for.

So how can you shout that it’s not enough for you? You can get more; you are given this opportunity. Start connecting with others, and the better the connection between us will be, the more we all will receive. We won’t reach happiness without mutual guarantee. No demonstrations or revolutions will help.
