Closing The Chain Of Great Souls

Dr. Michael LaitmanSo many people all over the world are truly anxious and totally helpless. They can’t find any justification for their suffering, and they don’t know what to do, how to make a living tomorrow or in the near future. Some are worried about what will happen to their billions, and others don’t know how they to survive when they run out of their last few pennies.

Each one suffers differently, but no one knows how to carry on. We, on the other hand, have suddenly received such a gift from Above that enables us to see the world differently. This is all thanks to the revelations of Baal HaSulam that came to us through his soul, as well as Rabash who was a transitional adaptor between us and Baal HaSulam.

Baal HaSulam has passed on to us Light from the world of Infinity through his perfect soul that attained its final correction. But he asked to be lowered because otherwise, he wouldn’t have been able to come into contact with people. Only after he was lowered by many degrees, was he able to write The Study of Ten Sefirot and the Sulam commentary to The Book of Zohar. We don’t understand the level he was on before that, the enormous height from which he couldn’t even tell us anything in words.

This was the level of GAR of the world of Atzilut and above, where there is the Light not clothed in the vessels. From there he couldn’t approach people and be heard, so he asked to be lowered. In fact, he fulfilled the mission the Creator had appointed him for, knowing that he would ask for and perform it.

We are on the intermediate degree between Rabash and Baal HaSulam and humanity. On one hand, we have to rise in order to understand what Baal HaSulam said. On the other, we have to descend to people’s level and understand what they need from us and how they will be able to accept our message. We have to attain these two poles, both above and below.

Baal HaSulam and Rabash spoke from above. We are below, under the Parsa, so that we will have the opportunity to touch and to awaken the world and then together with all of humanity ascend through the Machsom (the barrier) and become included into the upper Malchut. This is our mission.

Let’s hope we will manage to realize what Baal HaSulam, Rabash, and all the Kabbalists that preceded them didn’t. They only prepared themselves for it. We draw their teaching, their Light and actually realize it in practice.

Let us hope that we will be worthy and will be able to fulfill what Baal HaSulam wrote about. There is no other group that is following his path and is ready to fulfill his method. This is why we call ourselves “Bnei Baruch” (the sons of Baruch Ashlag), and we can say that Baal HaSulam, this great soul, is living among us, and we are bringing it to realization.

A System With One Degree Of Freedom

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe Light created the point of desire, the only creature, “out of absence.” And around this point, it was necessary to build a system in which this point could reach the level of the Light that begot it: to come to it in full understanding and conscious sensation.

All this had to be provided to the point except for one thing: freedom of choice in its development. However, all other means, qualities, and preconditions had to be granted.

It follows that there has to be a bridge between the Light and the point of darkness. The bridge has to become a system by which the Light makes a path to diminishing itself down to the level of the black point that emerged out of nothing.

The dark point in itself is opposite to the Light. It needs to absorb all forms that exist on the bridge between it and the Light. When it will include all existing forms into itself in the shape of internal preparations called “informational genes” (Reshimot), it will find itself on the opposite end of the system of the worlds. Then, under the influence of its own awakenings that arise from within, it will be able to begin to climb the degrees of these worlds and will come to know the Light by itself.

All means come to it from Above: the informational genes, the Light, forces, desires, and states. All of them, but one: The creature always retains the freedom of choice and decides by itself whether to use them for the sake of ascent or not. And this is the key!

Just as with the example of the Host and the guest: The guest is not at fault that he is hungry and has a good appetite. He is not at fault that he is poor! Nor is he at fault that there is a generous and powerful Host who knows precisely what appetite, desires, and taste the guest has, and who has prepared for him a suitable fulfillment, both in terns of quality and quantity.

Nothing hurts the guest’s dignity here if he knows how to behave with self-respect and not to rush to eat. If he knows how to conduct himself well, his shortcomings turn into merits, his weaknesses transform into courage, and his worries and complaints become a blessing of sanctity.

The Effect Of The Majority

Dr. Michael LaitmanThere are two approaches when it comes to working with the environment: education and upbringing. When we educate people, we tell them about the “round,” interconnected world, which must exist in balance with nature, and the network that connects our society, which we all must join. We explain what a global, integrated world is, and what the crisis, which is unraveling between us, and the common network entails. We teach this wisdom to people, to every person to the extent of their abilities, in a form which suits them. We speak about nature, its laws, and this is called education.

The second component of global enlightenment is rearing. Within the framework of upbringing we invite people to be active in groups, different social systems. We explain how to properly establish connections, involve psychologists, and hold group events. Studying is also a part of this, but the practical part is the most important. People must perceive, adopt, and respond internally to the different forms of bestowal and unity shown on television, radio, newspapers, and so on.

And then, the reforming Light comes to us due to all the efforts of the society and gradually changes us. The double influence of education and upbringing activates the power of the masses, which is a special effect of the “majority,” as it is written: “In the multitude of people is the  king’s glory” (Proverbs). This is not just a multitude; it is the majority, where a higher dimension becomes revealed.

Without your friends, you alone with your point in the heart are zero. This way you will not reach anything. But when you make an effort together on your spiritual path, you will succeed due to the effect of the masses, regardless of how miserable your efforts might be. And if humanity was to join this work, changes would happen immediately, the very next day.

Cursory Thoughts On Shamati, “The Essence Of One’s Work”

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe essence of one’s work is to reach the recognition of the importance of the Light, the property of bestowal, that is opposite to us, our desire, and all the pleasures we can think of today. I have to change my system of values: to reach a state when I will value like diamonds all that is completely unimportant to me today, totally opposite to all my views, and seems to me like waste, and I will treat as waste all that my ego values like diamonds.

I have to change their significance completely. After all, today I evaluate everything in my receiving desires, according to what’s important to them. But I transform them into the desires of bestowal, to what is of value to them. This is man’s main work: to realize the importance of bestowal.

Everyone Is Waiting Just For You

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe souls included in Malchut of the world of Atzilut awaken it through their requests to pass to them the Light that Reforms. Thus each soul builds itself.

When our souls ascend to Malchut of the world of Atzilut and connect to it, they reveal there a whole, complete system. Malchut seems poor and miserable only relative to each of us—this is how we see it.

However, when we connect to it to the extent that we want to bestow to it, we attain this bestowal and discover that all the souls are there: All the friends and all the relatives, and actually all the world is there! And it was only me who just got there and connected to them, in order to begin to work together.

It is said: “Every person judges others to the extent of his own flaws.” The corrupted system only exists relative to the uncorrected person who attains it. It is only to him that this world seems to exist, full of many people whom he needs to correct.

But actually, he needs to correct only himself. And then everything else that he sees around him will transform into the system of his soul, and nothing but it.

What Kabbalists Reveal

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: I don’t understand what is written in The Study of the Ten Sefirot, how it relates to us, and why I need to study it?

Answer: Everything we can perceive and come to know (ourselves and our environment) makes up our life, the sensation of our existence. If our senses were turned off, we would stop perceiving both ourselves and the world. We are but various desires for fulfillment that are different from one another. We are all connected between us by a network of connections, like cells of a living organism. And all of us, connected together with many connections, are swimming in a “soup” of the property of love and bestowal, referred to as our Creator.

Our perception of life and this world is the perception of the connection between us. Perception is either its fulfillment or the lack thereof in everyone’s individual desires. The desires of fulfillment give us the perception of this world. The desires to fulfill others, the system of connection between us or the Creator, give us the perception of the general connection, its similarity to the property of bestowal, the “soup,” the Creator.

So, The Study of the Ten Sefirot and all Kabbalah books in general narrate about the revelation of this system of connections between us, the Creator, to the extent of our efforts. That is, it tells us how this system becomes revealed, in what order, and also about its interconnections.

This is what Kabbalists have discovered, and this is what they are describing to us. We don’t understand what we are reading because it’s only possible to understand what we already perceive, and we don’t yet perceive the upper world. However, even reading about this system without understanding evokes the influence of forces on us, meaning the reforming Light (the quality of bestowal), our Source, and brings its revelation closer to us.

Instead Of Looking At Others, Look At Yourself

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: It seems that suffering is inevitable and that we won’t be able to manage without it.…

Answer: However, you can replace it with the suffering of love. If those around you start “brainwashing you,” you will begin to appreciate bestowal: “Why don’t I bestow?” You will be walking around with this question from morning to night: “Why do I lack it? Where can I find it? Perhaps here? Perhaps there?” You will look for it everywhere as if hypnotized.

Then there will be no need for the blows—the internal blows will replace them. But they will come in the form of a yearning for bestowal, for the purpose of creation, and you will be connected to it directly. It all depends on those around you. They have to constantly “transmit” to you how important bestowal is, and then you will strive for it.

But here is a question: Don’t you remain at the animate level by acting according to the dictate of the environment? That’s correct. This is why people with the point in the heart are told: “You have to build the correct environment yourselves, as well as do it for those who don’t have free will in this. Their freedom is more modest; it is in joining you.”

If you fulfill your free will and build your environment, you will be able to build it for others too. The problem is in the fact that you don’t have the right environment. You haven’t built it, and so you are not influenced by it. Thus, you don’t pass it on to others. You can’t be the environment for them yet.

Don’t complain that you cannot bestow upon others. Instead, think about how you can bestow upon yourselves. There are no tricks here, only practical work. If we don’t do it, we can forget about correcting the world. Who will correct it? We as we at the moment?

We have to create such a strong environment so that we can become a system that bestows upon the whole world. It shouldn’t be only by the media, not only by TV, radio, and the Internet. This is necessary only to some extent. The main thing is that we will influence the world because we will already be in the system of souls, in the system of mutual connection between us, where everyone’s thoughts and desires flow constantly.

Now we are in this system as well, but we don’t control it because we haven’t acquired the power of bestowal. If we are equipped with the power of bestowal, we will control the general system and will convey the importance of bestowal to everyone. This is true bestowal upon the environment.

Let’s hope that we will be able to make this year a good year for the whole world.

There Is Only One Last Step To Make

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Why do we say that the system is perfect if I am missing in it?

Answer: The system of the worlds that expanded from the world of Infinity to our world is perfect. Only the Light is missing in it. The system is in a small state (Katnut), which is the minimal Light necessary for existence; it is only filled with the Light of Hassadim (Mercy).

If we receive the desire to live, we have to be incorporated in this system. We make up Malchut, the last part of the system. There is only one point in Malchut through which we can enter the system and bring our desire into it. It isn’t about the egoistic desire of a certain individual, but rather our common desire. In other words, it is the desire to bestow.

If I bring the desire to bestow into Malchut, if my friends and I want to become as one man, then this desire to be a single whole is not the personal desire of each one, but our common desire. This is called the “prayer of the many,” and it is received in Malchut.

In this case, it becomes the tenth Sefira of all the ten Sefirot, before which there are nine Sefirot, five worlds. We make up the last point, the Malchut of all the worlds. This is where we bring our desire to connect, meaning to bestow, and thus we activate the first nine Sefirot, the attributes of bestowal. They begin to influence us according to our aspiration for bestowal, and thus they correct us.

The last Sefira, Malchut, becomes the desire to bestow and enlivens the first nine Sefirot and all the upper worlds. It unites with them in a general merger into one system.

This is how we enter the upper system and get to know it. Then we actually begin to attain everything that we read about in The Study of Ten Sefirot: Atik, Arich Anpin, their actions, Aba ve Ima, and ZON that ascend and descend, the interaction between the different parts of the spiritual Partzufim, and drops of Light that trickle (Mazalin) from Above . We see all these relationships between our spiritual roots, get to know them, and can already start to activate them based on our knowledge of the system.

I become familiar with everything in it. It’s as though I see that here is the supermarket, the bank, myself, my family, my relatives, the distant ones, and so on. This is how I begin learn about the upper system and advance in it.

Then the Kabbalah books become manuals for me and not just a miraculous remedy (Segula). It’s like buying a washing machine, for example, and opening the manual to read about how to operate it. This is how I open The Study of the Ten Sefirot and see how to activate the upper system.

I can even manage without a book, as it says: “Man’s soul will teach him.” I can learn about the system even without the books and become integrated in it.

And all this is right before us! There is only one last step to make.

The Battery For My Doll

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Why would I suddenly want to be part of some new system?

Answer: You have no choice. We operate as slaves to our desire.

I may either have a desire to enter this system, which beckons me secretly and stirs up questions in me: “What am I living for? Why? What’s the point in my life?” Or I may ask: “What’s the point in my life?” because I don’t have enough to make ends meet. Or I may be green with envy because the neighbor’s grass is always greener.

The kind of suffering makes no difference, and whatever it is, it helps us advance. This is how we are made. If we didn’t feel these deficiencies, we wouldn’t move at all. Our free will is not to choose the desires themselves, but rather how to use them. And when we are under the rule of two forces, the force of reception and the force of bestowal, we can choose how to use them. But I don’t choose the desire itself.

Before a certain desire begins to operate in us, we are like dull robots that can’t move. Without a desire I am like a lifeless doll without a battery.

A Demonstration Of Our Own Ignorance

Dr. Michael LaitmanBaal HaSulam, “The Nation”: The reward for intellectual work is higher than for physical work. And the work of quick ones pays more than the work of slower ones. And a single person should receive less than the one who has a family. Yet, the time for the work should be equal for everybody; also the distribution of the fruit of the work should be equal. So, how can we bridge all of those differences?

How can we establish fair distribution if we all are so different? People’s productivity is different. You can’t make the same demands of them and measure their effort according to a unified criteria. It follows that we don’t have any basis, foundation, for building a just society.

We have to explain this to those who call for social justice in the streets. How can there be social justice? How do you measure it if everyone is different by nature, and you don’t have the tool to measure their differences? By nature, we are all diverse; we have no criteria for comparison, which means that we will never achieve fair distribution. One has to be at the level of the Creator in order to divide everything justly.

In fact, what each and every one of us receives today is just distribution. Indeed, what you receive every moment in life actually comes from Him. This is justice; this is what you are entitled to. He allots you an absolutely accurate share.

It is the Creator who gives you all the conditions you live in. Perhaps you disagree with Him and the system, but this is what He gives you and tells you: “Work from this point. According to the qualities of your soul, you have to be precisely in this state. This state is the best for you, and you can advance from this point only. Start working and you will get more. For now, you received all you need in order to advance, fairly and according to all the rules.”

Even Pharaoh admitted that “the Creator is the righteous and Pharaoh is a villain.” Even though you disagree, or are unaware, or are not ready yet, it still is true. How can you start moving? Where do you go? Only towards bestowal!

If you want to advance and change yourself, the environment, the society, and the world, you have to learn from the Creator what it means to be righteous: to relate to everyone and help them achieve fair distribution on greater and greater levels of bestowal. We get fair distribution on every level until the final correction. It is there that fair distribution occurs, and the calculation is very accurate. You cannot ascend the next step on the spiritual ladder before you agree 100% with what happens, meaning before you obtain the vessels of bestowal and agree that this is justice.

So, what are all those demonstrations that call for justice in the streets for? What demands can you bring forward? Improve the environment and the connection between yourselves, and then you’ll rise to a higher level of justice. According to your degree, you are getting what you deserve. A higher level will bring you something else. What will that be? Start bestowing upon each other and you’ll see. The Light is always there. As you rise higher together with the society, you get more. You go lower, you get less.

So, what can you demonstrate? About not knowing what’s going on? Who are you demanding justice from? Everyone is in the same boat. Nothing good will come from that. The revolutions in Egypt and Libya are the best examples of that.

We have to understand that we always are in the corrected system. We can only rise in it towards increasingly exalted states of mutual correction. You exist in the Light of Infinity and receive from it only according to your degree, meaning as much as you can absorb. It fills you; it has everything that you will ever wish for.

So how can you shout that it’s not enough for you? You can get more; you are given this opportunity. Start connecting with others, and the better the connection between us will be, the more we all will receive. We won’t reach happiness without mutual guarantee. No demonstrations or revolutions will help.
