Match the Creator

237During the work, a person should say, “If I am not for me, who is for me?” At that time in the work, they think that they themselves are doing the ascents and descents, that they are men of war, called Tzava, “mighty men.” Afterward, when they are redeemed, they attain that the Lord is of hosts [Tzevaot], meaning that the Creator made all the ups and downs they had (RABASH, Article No. 6, “What Is Above Reason in the Work?“).

Question: Why is the Creator called a warrior? After all, He does everything; He gives both descents and ascents.

Answer: In order to participate in the movement of a person and of humanity, we must in some way correspond to the Creator.

Therefore, it is said here that we need to take an active part in this, examining and correct ourselves through prayer, in everything in which we discover our insufficient participation.

Unite Against the Disturbances

938.04Question: Should I recognize the evil inclination myself and begin a war with it, or should I hold the line and simply resist the disturbances coming at me?

Answer: No, a war has a goal, and you must be directed toward it. Without this, there will be no progress. We need to unite among us and see how we ourselves combine our thoughts, actions, and goals into one common force.

It is precisely this common force that overcomes our harmful desires and impulses toward the Creator.

That is why we must be clearly directed toward connection between us and against the Creator. Against the Creator means against the various disturbances that He sends us.

Face to Face with the Enemy

238.01We must understand that our egoism is created by the Creator and governed by Him. And on our part, we must wage war against our evil inclination, try to bring it out from under the power of the Creator, and not cease this war until we feel the possibility of victory.

The evil inclination acts directly against the Creator, trying to conceal Him from us. A person must imagine that he is constantly face to face with the enemy—his own evil inclination.

And even if he falls into egoism, he must try to rise out of it and then prevail over it. That is, in all the most difficult states that he goes through, he strives to recognize the true enemy.

All our advancement lies in the fact that we acquire more and more strength to rule over our evil inclination. Therefore, we must do everything possible for this victory, falling asleep and waking up with this thought.

We must try to identify this evil inclination, the force that prevents us from approaching and uniting with the Creator, and ask the Creator to help us overcome this enemy. This is the entire war.

Both in Reception and in Bestowal

235Question: It is a very subtle nuance when Malchut becomes Keter. Is this the transition we want to feel?

Answer: Everything depends only on the intention. Either you desire to bestow through your action or to receive.

In reality, you do not have the ability to bestow. You can do it only if you have such an intention that can operate both in reception and in bestowal.

Questions about Spiritual Work—238

231.04Question: We often hear that to win the war against the evil inclination, we must come to the correct connection. What is the correct connection?

Answer: The correct connection between us is one in which no one tries to stand out, but rather, each one wants to push others toward unity.

Question: What does it mean that the world will become transparent?

Answer: It means that we will directly feel our connection with others as something we understand and feel and that this connection will stand before us as the highest achievement for each of us.

Question: Can we say that the problem between conflicting sides is that neither side recognizes the hand of the Creator, His governance in the actions of the other, and that in this perception, both sides are mutually connected?

Answer: Of course. But the point is that we must make this clear to everyone, and that all people should come to feel what we must all do together in order to reach a common result. That is what we need to discover, understand, and accept.

Question: Does true spiritual work happen not through a stable Kli, but in the moment when its form is lost and only the intention to reach the light remains? Is this the annulment of the form before the birth of something new?

Answer: No, it is not exactly as you put it. But it will gradually take shape under the influence of the general light that we awaken.

If a Friend Is Weak

938.01Question: Can we fight the evil inclination instead of a friend who has weakened and fallen?

Answer: Practically, no. You must be very connected to each other and replace each other in all circumstances. Then in the lower states when you disconnect and distance from each other, you will also be able to make up for him. But that will be later.

Question: How can we help a friend until he enters the battlefield?

Answer: Invite him to participate in this work with us.

There Is Nothing Better than Being in a Ten

275Question: A new friend recently joined us. We sincerely wanted her to become part of the ten. But after some time, she began criticizing our work. She started pointing out how things should be done “correctly,” and eventually announced that she wanted to leave. What should we do? Should we try to keep her?

Answer: I do not think you should try to keep her. If she is criticizing your work and wants to leave, let her go.

Nevertheless, you must clarify things among yourselves and understand that there is nothing better than being in the ten and constantly rising together with the ten. The path you take and the questions you discuss are not so important. What matters is that you have a common intention toward unity among you and with her, and in this way, move forward together.

Strive to Bestow to the Creator

938.02Question: Does the depth of connection with the Creator correspond to the depth of connection with the friends?

Answer: We feel depth to the extent that we are in connection with the friends, and to that same extent we can channel it toward the Creator.

Then we will be on the same “wavelength” with Him: we as receivers and He as the bestower.

Question: You said that we must strive to bestow to the Creator through the ten. How can we discern which actions are bestowal and which are receiving from the Creator?

Answer: Act according to how you understand it. That will still lead you to the correct connection between you and the Creator.

The Question of Overcoming

938.07Question: It is written that we should always be in overcoming. Then there is a question whether my path is correct when I work with a group, with a ten, and all of a sudden I feel pleasure and enjoyment. Does it mean that I am making a mistake and that on the contrary, I have to find paths where I have to overcome something? Is this correct?

Answer: It is correct if you feel that you constantly want to be fulfilled with the light of the Creator to a greater degree. At the same time, you will be in connection with your friends because they give you strength and their volume that you can fulfill like a conductor of the light from the Creator to them. In this way everyone will rise.

Question: Then what do I overcome?

Answer: You overcome your egoism that pulls you down.
