Eye Opening
Question: It is written that the desire to receive is absent from our root. But you say that as a result of our correction we are rewarded with the opening of our eyes. What does it mean?
Answer: This means that we get the desire to give instead of the desire to receive. It develops in us, teaches us to see reality in the quality of bestowal, and thus we begin to attain a different reality than the one we were born in.
Question: I have a desire to receive, which is my nature, and there is something that gives me the study of the Torah and the commandments, and develops the desire to give. What does it mean that I can feel reality in the desire to give?
Answer: These are two properties in a person that can be replaced with one another. Therefore there is no need to stick to any one definition now. We will study all this and gradually change it in ourselves.
