A person advancing in correction begins to recognize forces within oneself he or she can consciously call “Abraham,” “Moses,” “the people of Israel,” and “the nations of the world” even before reaching true revelation.

Somehow a person distinguishes them and suddenly sees that this, in all likelihood, is that very aspiration, that desire, called “Abraham.” Abraham probably related entirely to this since other desires had not yet been revealed in him.

What is “Abraham” today? It is the uppermost layer within all souls, the purest desire to receive, which is ready to adhere to the Creator, but only if it is separated from all other desires.

In the past, it was indeed separated, because the other, more coarse desires had not yet been revealed.
