In the process of correction, souls ascend the degrees of the spiritual ladder in the upper worlds. This means that the desire to receive, which has been clothed in the form of bestowal, ascends upward through correction.

The upper light descends to the degree where the desire resides. If the desire can align itself with the light by annulling itself to such an extent that they merge into a single whole, the light lifts it to a higher degree.

Thus, a soul can be described as a corrected desire to receive that has united with the light and aspires to ascend further upward.
