Dear Michael,
I’ve been involved in music almost my whole life, and music exists on many levels. The singers that Seth is talking about are entertainers and provide a product to be sold in the marketplace. Singers usually use words, and words only exist on a certain level and can be very limiting. In the US, we have an instrumental, improvised music called jazz. Through this format, the musician becomes an artist and expresses his heart. The oldtimers used to call it soul.
My point is that music is a language above the word language. The musician can let you see his emotions and heart and to try to reach for something above himself. Of course, each artist achieves this on many levels too. But you can perceive an emotion that goes beyond the word language.
