Preparing Yourself To Approach The Creator

The Creator is an all-encompassing law of the universe. By demanding correction, we are not addressing someone, but we are preparing our desire for change from an egoistic desire to receive, to an altruistic desire to bestow.

As soon as we desire this, it will change! This will happen due to the Creator, the general law of the universe, immediately influencing our desire. The Creator is a spiritual field of bestowal and love in which we shift as the desire in us changes.  The Creator, however, is at a specific point in this field, relative to us. Initially we are opposite to it, and because of this, we are situated in the most external circle of this field, which is called “this world.”

To the extent that we desire to move closer to the center, towards the Creator’s qualities of love and bestowal, we cause this field to influence us, and it is able to move us. We can see that the Creator does not act on a whim, and we have no reason to wait for special treatment from Him.

My respect for the law of gravity will not change its effect on my body. In the same manner, if we follow the spiritual laws, we enter the spiritual world, and if not, we remain outside.

There is no protection, and it is useless to play up to and fawn over the Creator. The Creator is a force which reads my innermost desires rather than listening to my words. I advance to the extent that I correspond to this force.

The science of Kabbalah examines the laws of the spiritual world. It is spiritual physics, not lyrics. We exist in Nature; the Creator is Nature, and His laws are the laws of Nature.

We Have The Right To Make A Demand Of The Creator

Laitman_2009-03_7952A question I received: Who am I to demand correction from the Creator?

My Answer: You are a created being, just like everyone else. The Creator purposely created us from one great desire to receive pleasure by being next to Him. Then He broke this desire into pieces and lowered them to the lowest, most distant degree from Him, called “this world.” Each one of the pieces is in each of us.

Now the Creator is waiting for each of us (men, women, smart, stupid, righteous, and sinners) to turn to Him, wishing to return to His level. The desire to return should be the greatest desire of all our desires. This means that it should not just be a request that arises in us, but it must be a scream of despair and a demand to the Creator to raise us to His level.

We are here precisely so that we can demand correction, and this demand is pleasant to the Creator! After all, if we wish to become similar to the Creator, this means we value His state and realize His greatness. On the contrary, if a person does not wish to become similar to the Creator, then he does not respect Him.

We are comprised only of the desire for something that is greater or better. Therefore, only after thousands of years of development does our ego begin to understand that the best thing is to be similar to the Creator! Like children, we have the right to demand this from our parent!

What Do We Have To Correct?

A question I received: Do I have to correct my point in the heart?

My Answer: No, you do not have to correct your point in the heart because there is nothing to correct there. It is just a point and it has no volume.

What you have to do is connect your point in the heart with other points. When you create this connection between you, it is called correction.

You will then reveal that the “group” of points or desires is completely corrected. Everyone exists in the perfect connection, like cells of a healthy organism; everyone except you!

To the extent that you “bow down” before them, they will influence you and you will begin to have the correct intention for similarity to the Creator. When you read about the Upper World with this intention, the reading will evoke an influence upon you from the Upper Level. You will be influenced by the Surrounding Light, which will give you a feeling of the Upper Level from where it descends. So go ahead – start!

Kabbalah Books Are For Everyone

A question I received: For whom did the Kabbalists write their books?

My Answer: Baal HaSulam writes in the “Introduction to the Study of Ten Sefirot” (item 155) that Kabbalists obligated everybody to read these books, because when they are read, those who read them put themselves under the influence of their correcting force. This occurs even if the content and meaning of the books are not understood.

Therefore, Kabbalah books are meant for both those who want to embark on the path to reveal spirituality, and those who have already revealed the spiritual world. Those who want to advance use these books as a means of correction (Segula), and those who have already revealed the spiritual use them as a manual to guide them on their path.

The great majority of Kabbalists wrote their books not for beginners, but for those who’ve already attained spirituality. Only a few special souls (Baal HaSulam, Ramchal) exerted great efforts to write books that radiate a special Light specifically for those who aspire to attain spirituality.

The Torah Is Instructions On Developing Our Soul

What Is the Soul?We have to understand once and for all that the Torah does not say a single word about this world. It speaks only about the soul and the soul’s correction. There is no other topic in it.

Our soul, our egoism, or our “evil inclination” is what was corrupted. We still have to carry out the serious task of clarifying what the egoistic desire is, and then correct it. We will then reveal the Creator in our corrected desire and achieve equivalence to Him in our desires and thoughts – in the heart and mind.

A person has to strive to see the spiritual world through this world, and to understand that the spiritual world is eternal and we are in it even now. We just have to reveal it for ourselves.

All the books of the Torah are written particularly in order to reveal the Upper World. In Hebrew, “Torah” comes from the words “Oraa” – instructions, and “Ohr” – Light. It tells us how to reveal our eternal state, in which we already exist but do not feel. It tells us how to develop the inner sense that will allow us to feel the hidden part of the world.

All the books of the Torah talk exclusively about this, because our purpose is to reveal the entire, perfect Nature in which we exist.

The Purpose Of Kabbalah Is To Bring About The Correction Of The Entire World

Laitman_2009-05-28_0059_w The science of Kabbalah was revealed by Abraham in ancient Babylon. He revealed it as a method of uniting the souls and offered it to the Babylonians at the time of the first global crisis.  The world is once again facing the same situation and crisis.

The purpose of Kabbalah is the correction of the entire world, without exception.  We therefore cannot confine it to artificial limitations and a restricted environment, since all of the souls have to unite into one Kli and return to the state of Infinity.

Correction of the souls has nothing to do with our activity in this world. Each person can begin to correct one’s soul irrespective of where he lives and what he is doing. No special preparation is required. A person that senses inner emptiness comes to Kabbalah, whereas the one who is “full” is still waiting “down the line.”

“All of humanity in the end of its development is bound to come to the revelation of the Creator”

Baal HaSulam, “The Essence of the Wisdom of Kabbalah”

The Next Stop Is Gmar Tikkun

A question I received: Usually our lives are so bad that we want to ask the Creator: “Stop this train, I want to get off!”

My Answer: If you get off this train, you will only be left waiting at the same stop. Later, the next train will come, and you will be forced to board it and continue your journey.

Our world has 230 years left to complete its correction. However, each of us can complete his individual correction earlier. Until that happens, you will continue participating in the general movement: being born, living, and dying.

The Result Of Your Spiritual Work Is Never What You Expect

Our job is to begin the work of our correction, but we shouldn’t worry about its completion. This doesn’t mean we should leave the work in the middle, but rather, we must always consider the result as being the right one, because it comes from the Creator.

It only seems to us that we know how everything has to develop. But in reality, all of a sudden something opposite happens. We are influenced by the Upper Light and the environment, and therefore we are changing. That’s why we see that the work we started turns out to be completely wrong. And then we begin everything anew.

This is our work of correcting ourselves, “the correction of mistakes,” which the Creator completes for us. We always have to start from the beginning, without despair, trying to break through toward Him (toward the quality of bestowal in us).

We have to make every effort to complete the action, even though the result will be absolutely different from what we expected. This happens because the Light turns us into the opposite. That is why we go through so many changes in the process of the spiritual work.

The fact is that we don’t know what the outcome should be. We don’t know what the attribute of bestowal is, and that’s why we have no clue what will be the result of any step we take. If our efforts result in something opposite to what we thought, this may actually be a good sign that we are coming closer to the truth.

The Order Of Spiritual Ascent

A question I received: Is there one prayer or several types of prayers?

My Answer: A prayer is a desire you raise in order to be corrected. You raise it to the Upper Level or Partzuf, the Creator, requesting and demanding correction.

The number of requests for correction you raise determines the number of different prayers. There’s a specific number of prayers depending on the states a person goes through on each degree.

That’s why Kabbalists were able to compile a prayer book for us, called “Sidur,” meaning “Order,” (for example, the way things are ordered or organized in a statute). There they described the precise order of ascent from this world to the World of Infinity, as well as all the intermediary states.

It’s a book of instructions. When you read the prayers in it one after another, they reflect the order in which you have to address the Upper Level in order to correct yourself. Any transformation can happen only under the influence of the Upper Level.

There is a special order for each day (for each Sefira or degree) , and if you want to go through a spiritual “day,” then this book tells you the order in which you have to raise your desires for correction.

If you correct yourself over the six “days” (degrees), then you will go on to different prayers (corrections), called the prayers of Shabbat, and then to other special states (days, Moadim) and holidays.

There are many states, and each one has a corresponding prayer, meaning ascension of a desire to its correction. It’s because there’s a change in your state of adhesion to the Creator. The prayers never stop in the spiritual work.

Maaser Is Needed For The Spiritual Correction Of Humanity

A question I received: To give a tithe or Masser, one needs to be employed or have an income. This is where the problems arise. I observe many 10 hour working days, I sleep 7 or 8 hours, and the rest of the time, 6 hours or so, I spend eating, doing chores around home, and spending time with my family. It does not seem to leave much time for any spiritual pursuits.

In a way society has us trapped. Big homes and fancy cars all play a role in taking up the time that we have. Also, some choose to tithe to religious organizations so they can build bigger edifices than the other churches down the street, and pay big salaries and perks to the leaders.

How does one trust, or know in his heart that this Masser is indeed a Law of Nature, and is just and not contrived?

My Answer: Living according to the laws of one’s society and paying the Maaser for the spiritual correction of humanity is a law, while donating is not.
