Read Authentic Sources

165Question: Very often when reading the sources, we hear that one rabbi said one thing and another said almost the opposite. What do these opposing opinions in the sources lead us to?

Answer: The opposite statements in our sources lead us to conclude that all the great Kabbalists say the same thing.

Question: So our method is talking things through, asking for opinions, and coming to one conclusion? Is that what advances us?

Answer: Yes.

Question: How do I read the Psalms of David? As a rule, we read them in a group, try to figure out what he meant, and often realize we cannot. Can we just read them without clarification?

Answer: Psalms are usually read without clarification or explanation because they have a huge potential for holiness.

The Combination of the Qualities of Judgment and Mercy

232.05Question: How does the combination of the qualities of judgment and mercy ensure the existence of the world? Can the world exist solely with mercy?

Answer: No, we cannot progress if the Creator acts upon us only with mercy.

If the Creator refrained from applying the quality of judgment to us, we would achieve nothing. The Creator constantly shifts His influence between judgment and mercy, which leaves us with no choice but to rise above His attitude toward us.

Merit the Middle Line

232.06Question: If Isaac was forgiven all his sins, why did he still need the middle line, the property of Hassadim? What is this additional correction?

Answer: It is an essential correction because we are discussing the middle line.

Question: How can we merit the middle line?

Answer: You will not know until you merit it. The middle line covers both the left and right lines and balances them.

Hold on to the Thought of Love

527.03Question: How can I hold the line of wanting to love my friends and bestow to them without waiting for them to love me back throughout the day? Because when some obstacle arises, it is over. I am already in receiving mode, and it feels like I don’t even want to overcome that obstacle. That is, the importance fades, and the goal shifts.

How exactly can I hold onto this thought within the ten?

Answer: You must hold onto this thought, onto the connection between you as if it were a rope keeping you from drowning. If you let go, you will completely forget about your life and its purpose. That is how you need to act.

Question: And if I feel like I cannot overcome the obstacle, can I tell my friends: “Help”?

Answer: Of course, you can. You can fall and cry out. As long as that fall is genuine.

When Does a Person Agree to Let Society Influence Them?

We agree to let the group influence us out of necessity when we lose hope in our own strength. Baal HaSulam writes in his “Letter No. 57” that “there is no happier situation in man’s world than when he finds himself despaired with his own strength, i.e., he has already labored and done all that he could possibly imagine he could do, but found no remedy.” Only then are we eligible for true prayer, from the depths of our heart.

Initially, we resist external influence, as our nature does not let us consent to others having control over us. We turn to the group out of necessity, like a seriously ill person who goes to the hospital, lies down, and lets the doctors treat them, do whatever is necessary, sedate them, open their body, and do as they will.

Only the recognition of our inability brings agreement. Before that we will resist because our “self” was created as independent, feeling itself unique in the world. And if we are indeed the only ones in our world, with nothing else, how could we possibly yield to others?

Follow the Actions of the Creator

219.01Question: What is the full measure of the work in overcoming obstacles so that the return to the Creator is out of love?

Answer: To achieve this, I justify everything the Creator does to me in all states. Each time I agree more and more with His actions and add them to the overall account.

Question: It turns out that returning to a corrected state must be only out of love, which means instantly. How can one learn to instantly correct the desire to bestow?

Answer: This is done by the Creator. A person can only follow it.

How Can We Correct the Flaws in the World?

938.03Question: The flaws we see in reality are created by the Creator so that we can correct them through unity in the ten and with the world group. How can this be done?

Answer: We try to unite with each other despite being distant and even opposite to one another because the most important thing is to maintain connection with one another.

In this way, we measure the height of our ascent according to our connection above the problems given to us by the Creator.

Question: How can I see the world group through the ten and participate in it from the ten?

Answer: This is a challenge. For this, we need to advance further.

Read Your Heart

938.07What can a person enjoy during the lesson? A person can enjoy the fact that today he is much closer to his friends than he was yesterday.

To achieve a deeper connection with the Creator and to bestow to Him, you need to open up more to one another.

Then a greater Kli (vessel) will form, and you will feel each other more deeply.

In the group of ten, there is no need to reveal anything except the heart—what you desire in your life!

Question: But in our work, we rarely talk about this. We write prayers and read articles. How do we correctly speak about what we desire in our lives?

Answer: Open your heart and read what is written in it.
