Questions about Spiritual Work—237

281.02Question: Are the desire to want to bestow and the desire to bestow two different Kelim, or is it the same Kli? Can the Creator also be revealed in the desire to want to bestow?

Answer: Yes, all of this will become clearer, more defined, known, and attainable for us.

Question: Outside of our circle, how can we influence what is happening with us now, in Israel? Is there any possibility?

Answer: I do not particularly see what can be corrected in those circles of the Kelim that are not yet engaged.

I think this requires further work on our part. Then we will feel precisely what we are missing.

The Only Free Choice

933Question: What can we ask of a Jew living today in the land of Israel or elsewhere in the world so that he may become aligned with Galgalta veEynaim (GE)? What does it mean to be like GE?

Answer: Baal HaSulam writes about this. We received the land of Israel and indeed returned here, and yet, it cannot be said that we truly received it since we were forced to come here under the pressure of the events that the Creator sent us.

And now we must make use of our free choice. In the material sense, it does not exist. In the spiritual, however, the only free choice is to agree with the development, to take it upon ourselves as it is said: first to become “a kingdom of priests” and then “a holy nation.”

If we do this while still here in the land of Israel, then we will fulfill what is incumbent upon us. But if not, there will come such troubles that we cannot even imagine.

We must understand that we went through four exiles, which were necessary. We returned from the last exile not by our own strength. In other words, we were given the conditions for finding out how the correction must take place after the shattering.

Feel the Creator as the One Who Fills the Soul

243.04Question: It is said that one must turn to the Creator from the depth of the heart. What is this depth, and how can we reach exactly this request?

Answer: We must call upon the Creator for a variety of connections with Him, so that our attitude toward Him is always in the same direction, that is, aimed only toward Him, but different in the qualities we would like to receive from Him.

If we do this, then gradually something similar to the Creator will form within us, and in this Kli, which is called the soul, we will feel the Creator as the one who fills our soul.

Question: Should we feel that we bring contentment to the Creator by our actions?

Answer: Yes, we should. To a certain extent, we must still feel the bestowal from the Creator, the way He responds to our attitude toward Him.

How Do You Implement Kabbalah?

254.03Question: What should I say to a simple person who does not study and probably will not study Kabbalah?

Answer: There is no need to study Kabbalah! The wisdom of Kabbalah is not for studying it. Studying is not its realization. Realization in our world occurs through awareness of the separation and correction and not through any kind of physical action.

Physical action is the dissemination to the people of Israel and the nations of the world of the idea of what the purpose of creation is and the process of achieving it. Once a person hears it and to some extent agrees with it, a person, as they say, carries it out.

There is no realization in our world. How would you implement it? With hands, feet? Even the work in the Temple, the sacrifice of animals for the Temple service are external symbols of internal agreement. All the work is internal.

You sow this knowledge in yourself and in the nations of the world, in everyone without any distinction, and everyone feels that this is indeed so and, apparently, the entire world is in a bad state precisely because we do not follow this general law. This is how you correct everything.

After all, the correction does not lie in extracting a few more tons of oil or coal, or building a few more factories, or in doing something else. Correction is not accomplished by physical actions. An action is achieving the correct intention. That is all. All the actions of this world are useless, and we see how destructive they are.

The intention for the sake of bestowal was shattered; the intention that should have been in the head of the Partzuf of the world of Nikudim or Adam. At that time, in the head (Rosh), there was an intention to receive for the sake of bestowal, but it was not realized in the body (Guf). It is precisely this intention that must now be realized. Intention!

Therefore, to the question “What should we do in this world?,” I answer: we should not perform any physical actions other than dissemination, other than study. This is what is called the “kingdom of the priests”: the priests (Kohanim) have no inheritance, they do not have to do anything. They should only teach, pass the method.

And what about the other nations? They work with the desire to receive; that is considered their work. The actions are only in connection, dissemination, explanation. And that is all.

Connection With the Soul of a Kabbalist

926.02Why is it customary to visit the grave of Rabbi Shimon (RASHBI), the author of The Book of Zohar, as if there is some special energy there? Such a place serves as a “point of connection” with RASHBI, who was the greatest kabbalist.

If a person seeks to establish a connection with him, places like this give him a greater chance. Those who truly desire to connect with RASHBI’s soul and make the necessary effort can achieve this.

Connection is possible from any location, not just at the gravesite, but the opportunity is greater there according to the spiritual law of “root and branch.” When a Kabbalist is freed from his biological body, which added egoism to him, he becomes even holier, even closer to the Creator. That is why people come to the grave. This applies to all Kabbalists, but RASHBI is beyond comparison; he is far above the rest.

Connection with the soul of a Kabbalist can also be established through studying his writings, and what will work more strongly depends on the root of a person’s soul. But of course if one never studies the Kabbalist’s works and only visits his grave, no true connection will be made. A connection to the original source is necessary.

If a Kabbalist is no longer in a physical body, a person can go to his grave and ask to draw closer to him. The same request can be made while studying Kabbalistic texts. How powerful the result will be depends on a person’s spiritual root and on the intention behind his desire to connect with the Kabbalist.

The root of a soul is determined by the Creator, but it is up to the person how sincerely he prays and strives to reach the point of connection. Only prayer can help persuade the Creator to actualize the root of a person’s soul. One should ask for the opportunity to connect with the spiritual root of RASHBI.

There are many Kabbalists, but RASHBI is a unique soul, intimately connected with the Creator and related to all souls. If you pray and form a special spiritual Kli (vessel) within yourself, you may receive illumination from his unique spiritual root.

Much depends on the root of a person’s soul, his connection with the Kabbalist, with his writings, with the place of his holy burial, but how can one know the root of his own soul? Ask the Creator for understanding, and perhaps you will receive an answer and reveal the root of your soul.

Let the Sparks of Purity Flow into the World

937Today we are in a state where we are obliged to make corrections. If we do this, we are using our free choice. We create a group through which we strengthen ourselves, analyze the Kelim, and correct them from simple to complex.

First we correct “Israel in its land” to the extent possible, and then our inclusion in the nations of the world. This means that we give the nations of the world the method of correction, explain to them why everything exists, what its purpose is, and what the process and goal of creation are.

This is what is meant by Galgalta veEynaim (GE) working on the AHP, being inside it, and due to this the AHP joins GE to the extent possible.

If we function as we should, then, as Baal HaSulam, writes “sparks of enlightenment and purification” will pass from Israel to the nations of the world. By doing this, we carry out the one and only action that we can perform by free choice.

But if we do not use our freewill, specifically that which is given to us in this particular moment in history, then the general force that is obliged to bring us and all the nations of the world to the end of correction (Gmar Tikun) will act upon us in such a way that we will be made to fulfill what is required.

To the extent that we deviate from the correct direction, this force acts upon us to return us to it, but this return comes through suffering, and therefore, we risk finding ourselves in the most dreadful states.

I Don’t Want to Suffer, I Want to Enjoy!

43Question: Where does the transition occur so that I act not out of a desire to avoid blows, but start advancing at my own will?

Answer: No, you do not need to go by your will. Can we advance just because the idea is beautiful, abstract, and offers a chance to rise above the animalistic degree? It does not work like that; such a thing does not exist.

I follow this idea because I feel bad! What is the meaning of my life? I ask this question only because, like an animal, I want to escape a blow. “What is the meaning of my life?” That is an animalistic question! It arises when I feel bad, when I feel it in my body.

I do not think: “How miserable the Creator must be! Maybe I should keep Him company? Me and Him, that is already two. Maybe someone else will join too.” A person is incapable of such an attitude! It is an illusion. We are made of the will to receive, and only from this substance arises the demand: I don’t want to suffer, I want to enjoy! Or if not to enjoy, then at least to suffer less.

Question: When does my attitude shift from fear to love?

Answer: It is very simple! As soon as you turn to Him out of fear and feel that you have received a good response, you begin to love.

Let’s say someone constantly hits you and seemingly hates you. But then, from these blows, you begin to see a good result, and then you start to understand His attitude toward you. He does not want to hit you, but does so only because there is no other choice. Only based on the result do we begin to change our attitude toward the Creator.

Don’t Forget about the Ultimate Goal

231.03Question: We say that first we direct ourselves toward the Creator, and only afterward we work with the friends in order to attain Him. But in practice, according to the method it is the other way around. First are the commandments regarding one’s attitude toward a friend, and then to the Creator.

Answer: The end of the action is in the original plan. You must constantly maintain the final goal, and everything you do along the way is merely a means. Therefore, if you are not thinking about the ultimate goal, your intermediate actions may be directed the wrong way and end up giving the opposite result.

Baal HaSulam writes about this, mentioning communism, Kibbutzim, and all the things humanity tried to create for its own benefit by using the rule “love your neighbor as yourself,” the Ten Commandments, and so on. The result was only evil and destruction. The reason is that the ultimate goal was not exactly the one for which these commandments were given and for which the whole of creation really exists.

If you use anything beyond the inanimate, vegetative, or animate levels without the intention to attain adhesion with the Creator, then any action, even the smallest one, causes damage to the surrounding reality.

And the greater and more significant the action, the more harm it brings to you. After all, the entire reality was created only so that you could connect your free choice with the place where you are called a human, and thereby all of reality would once again merge with the Creator.
