Question: What will happen when we connect? How will it work?

Answer: It is a connection that is created above the feeling of separation, since we achieve it by ourselves and this achievement is based on the contrast between two opposite states. Above the resistance between them, we discover our achievement.

It is like a resistor in an electric circuit that resists the connection between two points by creating a resistance between them. However, if we connect this network to two poles, we create a potential difference, and then by this resistance we can clarify what the difference is: By clarifying the gap and the relations between them we can understand what is on one pole and what is on the other. All this is clarified by the resistor, by the resisting force.

The system of life is built on this basis—on the connection of opposite particles. These particles connect into atoms and the atoms into molecules and everything connects on the basis of opposites, a plus with a minus.

Different materials are created thanks to the different connections between the positive and negative particles. Such internal opposite qualities are typical of every material, of all the elements on the periodic table. Later this connection between the plus and the minus becomes increasingly varied and complex. Different qualities appear in it, which turn these creations into living cells.

It isn’t a static system anymore in which the plus and the minus are connected in a stable relationship to one another, but a system in which this relationship begins to change and thus the element of life is created.

The lower can already exist not simply adhering to the upper the way it was in the world of Ein Sof (Infinity), or separated from Him, like after the descent of the worlds to this world, but also in starting to perform independent movements with regard to the upper. This is already a change from the level of the still level of nature into the level of the vegetative and then into the animate level and finally into the level of the speaking. This is how the ascent up the levels occurs.

This is how life is created in this world and this is also what happens in the spiritual world as a person advances and annuls the partition that separates him from the Creator.

Question: What does “Adam” mean? Is it a thought or a visual image?

Answer: Adam stands for two parts, desires and thoughts, since we consist of both heart and mind. It’s important to understand that desires are primary to thoughts and that they direct our mind. Thoughts develop in us in accordance with the quality of our desires.

There is a proverb, “The more one is beaten, the smarter one gets.” This is because our willingness to rid ourselves of affliction promotes our growth. We become more ingenious and smart when we seek how to escape suffering and be fulfilled with something we really want. Therefore, no matter how great or respected our mind is, it still is simply an attendant that serves our desires.

Having agreed to that, we should instigate higher desires within us. Then, our mind will rise to reach them.

Let’s say, in a group of ten, we rise to a degree at which all of us have the same desires that transcend our bodily material wishes. We should leave all sensible desires, as well as earthly matters, at home.

As soon as the group enters a place—a studio, classroom, or so forth, that could be called a lab—that’s it! The door is shut. The external world ceases to exist. Only those who are in the room are important.

It’s as if we were on board a spaceship that is flying to an unknown place for an indefinite time. We lose the sense of time; and earthly problems do not trouble us any longer. Nothing matters! Our goal is to ascertain a structure called Adam (man).

What kind of desire shall we have? It should only be to merge with each other, to become one whole.

Accordingly, we begin realizing that the structure we are trying to define is similar to nature, which, nowadays, manifests itself as an integral, unified, and complete organism. If we understand this fact, we’ll feel much better and more at ease.

We will comprehend nature better and will be able to read it. Then, if we regard nature from the integral point of view that we should form between us, we’ll instinctively perceive and follow its laws. We will realize that it’s essential to re-organize our lives, even at the regular, material, and routine level.

Let’s induce such desires within us. Let’s aspire to rise above ourselves, regardless of our earthly goals and hopes. We must uplift and enhance our integral “something” and bring it beyond all material issues. It’s our duty to completely support each other in this task.

Baal HaSulam, “Peace in the World”: Thus, peace of the world and peace of the state are interdependent. Hence, we necessarily find that even that part of the state which is currently satisfied with its life, which are the nimble and the clever, still have a lot to be concerned about for the safety of their lives, due to the tensions with those who strive to overthrow them. And if they understood the value of peace, they would be happy to adopt the conduct of living of the last generation, for “all that a man has will he give for his life.”

There is a simple condition for the good life of the last generation, and that is to know that all over the earth, in all of humanity everything is connected integrally and globally and no one is free of this general account. Everyone is connected to everyone in full connections that we know of and that we don’t know of, the revealed and the concealed. There are millions of strings stretched among us through my thoughts and my desires and through all of me. If I haven’t revealed them yet, it doesn’t mean that they don’t exist. Of course they exist and they are more clearly revealed each day.

The only thing I can do is to understand that that’s the way it is, but the understanding isn’t enough—I need to come to the feeling that I was able to correctly use the situation. Let it limit me when I do something wrong and push me forward in the right initiatives, according to the general system in which we are all connected to one another.

If I don’t feel, I will miss this opportunity: I will start saying one thing and doing another thing, which is what is actually happening today.

Well, first I have to understand it myself and explain to those around me. But eventually, this system has to be revealed to us so that we will really see it in our eyes and in our insight, so that we will feel its signals coming from heart to heart, from mind to mind.

No one will be able to think and contemplate by himself. Everyone will have to connect to the whole world in his thoughts. In other words, we need one heart and one mind for everyone.

Life itself demands the unity. We are moving in this direction and will reach it anyway if not now, then later. So how can we execute this? Will some global government or some global police help us? What can we do?

We need a special means that will show us the connection among everyone in an emotional and cognitive manner, so that we will not just look at in from the side, but will actually find ourselves in it.

Then I will automatically worry about others: If I think, I think about everyone; if I make a decision, I take everyone into account. I will be strongly and tightly connected to the general. Without this there is no chance we will succeed.

Question: You have described the final state, but not how to get there.

Answer: That’s right. Even now I can use my common sense and my right mind in order to depict for myself how things should be. If I already see the general system, how does it obligate me at the moment? Then other conditions will be revealed, even tougher and stranger ones.

Still I have to think objectively regarding the present: There are certain components that are connected in a certain way.

How do I connect them so that everyone feels all the others and everyone can take everyone else into account?

Everyone knows the other’s nature thoroughly and is unlimitedly connected to everyone in a variety of connections and has such a large mind that he can take everyone into account, to immediately plan projects on everyone’s behalf and carry out actual operations, assured that these operations are optimal and that in the current circumstances are the best possible.

Otherwise, if everyone continues carrying on his personal accounts under the conditions of the growing mutual connection, everything will fall apart like a car whose parts go in every direction when an accident occurs.

So we have to see the picture of our unity as compulsory: Everyone has the mind of everyone and everyone has the feelings of everyone else. How is that possible? That’s a question in itself. But even now we already see that nature is presenting us with this problem.

Question: What effort and awakening do we lack in order to help people break the barriers?

Answer: They must know that the goal is not achieved by shouts and riots in the streets. Instead, we must learn what connection is.

Connection is not a simple thing. Enthusiastic calls will not help here. A person must examine himself, reveal, and bring out within him the forces that repel the connection and that help it.

The method of connection is actually the method for a person’s inner correction. I don’t want to connect with others because this is how I am built from within. I can talk about this, praise the unity in the world, and organize general love days, but actually, we are all egoists, and no one has the power to truly connect with others. It is not that he does not want to, but is simply incapable.

Therefore, we need to become familiar with this and begin to change ourselves. The correction of the world is correction of each one. We need to change the person. Moreover, each one needs to change himself and not the others, and to help another person means to pass on the method and support in his first steps that he is capable of actualizing. I can give him an example of the extent to which it is important for me so that he also will be imbued with this importance.

We need to act solely according to the principles of mutuality. We are different from all the rest in that we say that it is possible to reach connection and unity, that it is possible to rise above the crisis.

We are capable of this. We have the method of connection that is based on a person’s correction. The entire Torah is intended for this, as it is written, “I created the evil inclination, and I created the Torah as a spice for it because the Light in it reforms”.

This is how a person becomes better. We use this method that enables us to attract the Light through the study of the wisdom of Kabbalah and work in the group.

Question: How can we reach the hearts of people if they aren’t ready to listen to us?

Answer: There is no problem in reaching another person’s heart. After all the strings that mutually connect us are stretched among us all and they are at your disposal, go ahead; influence this system from the inside. No one in the world except those who have the point in the heart have such a powerful access to the internal network that connects people.

We are all mutually connected; the whole world is wandering within the collective feelings and thoughts, but on the “animal” level. As for the forces that change reality, none of the seven billion reaches that; they are all under supervision.

You can operate actively in the internal network that connects everyone if you want to do it correctly by helping its advancement, its development, and its revelation to people. Then you can connect to this network and add your desire to it, your prayer. Go ahead, you have the chance; after all, you have received a point in the heart just like our friends throughout the world.

We are all connected to this internal network and through it we assist its positive development. We pull the world ourselves a bit more strongly forward so that it will not advance as a result of negative urges. If we assist the natural force called the “Creator” advance the world, we change the negative pulses from behind to positive ones that pull the world forward. Kabbalists call this “to judge oneself and the world to the scale of merit.” Eventually the painful stabs in the back change into a pleasant adventure on the way forward.

Question: This means that it isn’t about the words I say to someone. Does it work even if a person doesn’t listen, if I have the right intention?

Answer: Of course. You don’t have to hear with your ears at all. We do have to awaken people by external means, but the true and most powerful dissemination is undoubtedly through the internal network. If we kept the internal connection among us, the world would be different.

The question is: What efforts do we have to make in order to increase our internal connection and what efforts should be made to increase the external connection.

If we could truly invest all our powers effectively in the internal connection, we should do that. But we cannot and so we also work on the external connection that helps us unite and operate mutually.

Question: Who is Baal HaSulam referring to when he writes of those that are “wise in the heart”?

Answer: “Wise in the heart” is one that is searching for a way to open his heart to a higher wisdom (“Wisdom” – “Hochma”), a wisdom of unity, by means of connecting with others.

We wish to connect with our hearts, to connect our desires, and from all the hearts and the sum total of all desires to choose only those that are ready for connection. By creating a connection between these desires we create a common network inside which we wish to begin to act.

While inside this network we forget which desires belong to whom because it is now our common system. Then within it we begin to sense the Light of Hochma and therefore are called wise in the heart. After all, we reveal the Light of Hochma (wisdom) within the connection of our hearts.

Question: Today it’s quite clear that a person depends on and is enslaved to his environment. But how can we conclude from this fact that we must act for the wellbeing of society?

Answer: If a person doesn’t serve the world, the world will not provide him with what he needs. Today what I need actually depends on the whole world. I will have nothing if the world doesn’t give it to me, in other words, if the whole world is not mutually connected. This means that I need to worry that the whole world will be connected and will cooperate in harmony. Only then will it be able to provide me with what I need.

Somewhere in the world people are digging for iron, in another place for copper, in another for oil, and in another place for gas. Factories provide the goods and ships transport them; scientists develop new technologies and eventually the end product reaches me. In the past we weren’t really concerned about this. There was enough “local” ego of the factory owner or of the oil well owner, but today it doesn’t work that way anymore. Soon we’ll be surprised to see how major production mechanisms don’t function. Why? Doesn’t the oil well owner want to make a profit? Still, his business will fail since we don’t give him power, we don’t worry about him.

It’s time to worry about the wellbeing of the whole world. The system is operating integrally now and it needs everyone’s deficiency in order to function. “But can I know and remember everything that happens in the world? One could go mad, not even a computer can do that!”

True, therefore the only option is the connection of the hearts and desires, not the thoughts. Start operating on the level of the desires and you’ll suddenly see how the thought accurately “dresses” on the awakening of the heart, on the desire, and is able to worry about everyone. Then you’ll see and know why a great potential of your brain is still inactive.

We are building our future. To the extent that we become integrated, we will reveal it much faster than when it becomes materialized in us mechanically. We walk one step and perhaps a few steps ahead of the history of the world.

Our world is moving like a cart with a horse; I mean precisely an animal force pulls it forward. However, we are moving like a person who strives forward, driven not by the whip and spurs, but by his aspiration, like a quick runner who is racing ahead of the heavy horse-drawn cart. This is because the cart consists of individualists who need to be forced to understand their commonality, integrality, and globality, while we gather in this integrality in advance.

Thus, we are represented not by a huge cart with billions of people sitting in it, but by the image of the collected horseman, who along with the horse (with his animal inclination) moves purposefully towards the goal because both the horse and the rider understand the purpose. It is a completely different speed. Today, we are building our future practically.

Man is a social creature, which means that he depends on everyone and everyone depends on him, but this is revealed gradually.

All of human history is the essence of the social revelation of man. When he climbed down from the tree he lived in the society of the family or the tribe and then gradually expanded his social boundaries. On the one hand, the ego which separates him from others developed in him, and so he had property—a house of his own, his own field, his own camels, horses, sheep, servants… on the other hand, he became more dependent on others—one person became a blacksmith, another a shoemaker, a third became a tailor, another became a farmer, and they were all dependent on one another on the human level of exchanging goods and services. This is despite the fact that a person actually doesn’t want to give anything but only wants to take.

Thus the wheels of the global mechanism started moving since there was no other choice, although no one wanted to coordinate his actions with others. Society developed throughout history along two lines: a growing mutual dependence and a growing egoistic repulsion. People closed themselves by city walls and political borders until this irreversible process reached a dead end, as we have a big ego, and we all depend on one another. This is what is revealed to us today at the end of the two trends that started in the past and have shaped mankind.

Today we have no choice: We are totally dependent on each other and totally hate one another although neither aspect has been fully revealed yet, and we still have to discover this. On the whole, it is revealed by the upper Light that Reforms when we try to connect so that we can rise towards it.

Suppose we want to connect worldwide, what will be the benefit of such an action? By seeing the initial advantages of the connection, we will also see that we are very far from it, absorbed in evil. This is because good and bad are measured in contrast to one another. So time after time, by yearning for the good, for unity, we will rediscover a new evil, which is called the “war of Gog and Magog”—Armageddon…

On the whole, our general collective mechanism is operating now too if we look at it from a different level of clarification. The wheels are spinning and the parts are working. The question is whether you agree with the actions of this mechanism when they are revealed to you. This is how we should examine the situation, from a more mature level.

All the troubles and the hardships that we come across, about which The Book of Zohar tells us, are interruptions on the way to adhesion. After all, if we were in adhesion, we wouldn’t need to explain anything or write about it. The only thing we lack is to reach adhesion—this is the correct request.

If my request is correct each time, I will constantly be in adhesion according to my request. I only need to ask, but the request has to be for the right and clarified absolute desire—relatively to the state I am in.

If I could request correctly now, I would reach adhesion, on my relative level, of course. Thus the desires, the conditions, the inner attributes and the external ones would change in me each time, and if I asked correctly I would advance straight from the bottom up through these points—from one point of adhesion to another.

So all our work is to ask correctly, when we clarify our request more and more accurately. There are many conditions for the preparation for this work: This whole world, the friends, the study, etc. all this is in order to clarify our request.

This world and the friends are the components of my desire that I need to clarify. The only thing demanded from me is a prayer—MAN. Therefore, it says that every correction is performed by a prayer and good deeds by which we clarify our desire.

The book tells us about the desires we have to ask for in our prayers. Kabbalists don’t write about anything else but that, since you will discover everything else by yourself.
