In A Family Everyone Is Dependent On Everyone Else

A question I received: The notion that the individual’s welfare depends on the society’s welfare is the foundation of any upbringing. Unfortunately, at the end of the day this rule is never followed…

My Answer: So as to not get confused in the concepts of “integral, global humanity,” “the butterfly effect,” “the mutual guarantee” and “mutual bestowal,” it’s best to picture just one image: we are all one family. And in a family everyone is dependent on everyone else; if one member is unwell, this feeling is shared by everybody.

Similarly, today the welfare of each individual is dependent on the welfare of everyone. That is why we must devote ourselves to the care of others, since each one of us is a member of one family.

We Have No Choice But To Obey The Law Of Nature

A question I received: Why does our further development have to take place on a new level and cannot occur using existing methods?

My answer: This is because all previous periods of development followed a singular direction that was increasingly ego-driven at the individual and societal levels. This development did not depend on an altruistic connection between us.

With each period, we would build yet another connection between us depending upon the level of our egoism which resulted in new laws, interconnections and agreements. This is how we made adjustments in our development.

But today, Nature is forcing us to establish a new level of global, interconnected human society, and whether we like it or not, we will have to obey this law of Nature.

Humanity Is A Closed System

A question I received: We are all connected together in the system of souls as one. But how can we have a positive influence on the collective consciousness, which is full of hatred?

My Answer: To do this, we have to feel that we don’t have a choice, that we are getting close to self-annihilation, to a life that is worse than death, and that we can’t avoid this. This feeling will make people want to connect to others. People’s nature, the egoistic desire to receive pleasure, will drive them to it. People will desire this because it will be the only way to feel good.

Even now, we are capable of “giving for the sake of reception,” for example, when we pay for something we need at a shop. Even this simple transaction is a small sacrifice. There is no such thing in the animal kingdom or with little children. In other words, this does not come from our instincts.

However, every person has to understand that he has a responsibility to connect with others correctly. And people should make every effort they can to learn about the right connection. Humanity is a closed system, and like in every closed system, everything must be aimed at supporting and preserving unity, balance and harmony. If these are broken, then every member of the system will suffer. One part of the system cannot feel good at the expense of another.

This is the wisdom we have to teach people. Everyone in the world has to learn the new rules of conduct in the world we are living in today.

The Creator’s Light Is Infinite

Two questions I received about the Creator:

Question: Can individual souls attain the level of unity with the Creator or is this only possible with the help of all other souls?

My Answer: To unite with the Creator means to be similar to Him. Because He is the desire to bestow and to love, a person attains union with Him to the degree he attains the same quality or desire. The desire (or quality) to bestow and to love that develops within a person is called a soul.

Question: Why is the Creator characterized as Light or pleasure? Doesn’t this make Him limited and incomplete?

My Answer: All the limitations exist only within our desire to receive this Light, whereas the Light Itself is infinite.

Friends Are The Key To A Long, Healthy Life

In the News (from NY Times): What Are Friends For? A Longer Life” Researchers are only now starting to pay attention to the importance of friendship and social networks in overall health. A 10-year Australian study found that older people with a large circle of friends were 22 percent less likely to die during the study period than those with fewer friends. A large 2007 study showed an increase of nearly 60 percent in the risk for obesity among people whose friends gained weight. And last year, Harvard researchers reported that strong social ties could promote brain health as we age.

My Comment: This is because the energy of life lies in the unification of individuals. To the extent people unite as one whole, in spite of the egoism that pushes them away from each other, they become similar to the Unified Upper Force, the Creator, who is the Source of Life.

Unified World System: Physical Or Spiritual?

A question I received: Why should people unite politically and create a unified world system, if the true alliance has to take place in people’s hearts. This is where the unity has to take place, and not in a new world order. Why not just unite the hearts and let each country stay the way it is?

My Answer: Kabbalah speaks about internal unity, rather than physical unity. It is the internal unity that determines humanity’s external form and institutions.

Cure The World, Cure Yourself

A question I received: How can we cure others if we are sick ourselves and we don’t even know how to help ourselves?

My Answer: We are inside an integral society where everyone is interconnected. Therefore, no one can be cured until everyone is. It is only by striving to cure others that you will become healthy too.

The Crisis Is A Negative Revelation Of Spirituality

A question I received: You have said that we, meaning the world, have reached a state where we are already bound into one whole or one vessel. And according to Nature’s (the Creator’s) plan, this vessel must be filled with the sensation of the Upper Level of existence. However, we don’t feel our connection clearly and the state of the world has no precedents in the past. Could you please explain the meaning of this?

My Answer: Today we are revealing a global, integral connection among us, the effect of a “small village” or the Butterfly Effect. However, we are revealing an egoistic connection between us, together with universal interdependence. Thus, we are finding that we are unable to sustain correct, kind connections among us. This is called “a broken vessel,” because our connection is wrong.

Therefore, the current crisis is a revelation of our spiritual state. Throughout all of human history, until now, we existed on the level of our world. But we are now discovering the next level of Nature through seeing the interconnectedness between all parts of nature.

The world has to understand and internalize this level. After all, we have never been in this situation before. We have always thought of spirituality as something up in the sky, in other galaxies, beyond the boundaries of the universe, or in another dimension. Yet now spirituality is actually being revealed inside us, but it’s being revealed in the uncorrected form – the egoistic connections between us.

Baal HaSulam writes: “We are all one family.” And we are a family even if all of its members hate one another. The connection between us is spiritual. But it’s uncorrected because it’s egoistic. Our task is to correct it, to turn it to, “Love your neighbor as yourself”.

Spirituality has never been revealed in all of history before us. This is why our generation is called “the generation of the Messiah,” where the word Messiah originates from the word Limshoch – “to pull” ourselves out of egoism.

Thus, the crisis is the revelation of the broken connection between us. It is not an economic, financial, political or ecological crisis, but a crisis of the relationships between us. And that is what we are now revealing.

We have to give everyone (including ourselves) an explanation of the state we are in. Like a sick person, if we find the cause of our illness, we will be able to cure ourselves. By following the advice of Kabbalists, we can create the right connection between us – that of love and bestowal. We will then find ourselves in a perfect world!

Should “Global Dependence Day” Replace “Independence Day” Celebrations Around The World?

A question I received: Israel recently celebrated its Independence Day. In the midst of it, I suddenly thought, “Who are we independent of?” Are we independent of China and Turkey, whose clothing and goods fill our stores and our markets? Are we independent of America and its financial assistance and arms supply? Are we independent of European and Japanese cars and technology? Are we independent of Arabic oil and Russian gas?

And I am not only talking about Israel. I am talking about every country in the world! And this mutual dependency just keeps getting bigger and bigger.

So how can we celebrate any kind of independence? It is nonsense! Maybe we should  celebrate Dependence Day instead – our dependence on each other. This will help everyone understand that by reaching the state of globalization, we have a chance to develop in a better way. Don’t you agree that Independence Day will soon be gone from our calendars?

My Answer: I agree with you and I wholeheartedly await the holiday of “Global Dependence Day”!

Unity Is The Method Of Coming Out Of The Crisis

A question I received: If someone came to you from an international news agency such as CNN and asked you to describe the wonderful method that you have, what would you tell them?

My Answer: This method shows us how to overcome the crisis that is now being revealed and spreading into all areas of our lives. Our survival is at stake, so if we want to save ourselves from destruction by natural disasters, famine, epidemics, and other misfortunes, we have to realize that the correction of our global situation depends on one thing: the establishment of interpersonal relationships as though we are members of one family. I think this example speaks for itself and requires no further explanation.

Anyone can envision a family whose members understand that they are connected and interdependent, who take care of one another and live together. This is the kind of relationship that we must develop among all the people on earth!

To this end, we have to explain to everyone that we are all interdependent and can do nothing to escape this connection. This understanding will oblige people to unite. Everyone should understand that by uniting, they will eliminate all the problems in the world.
