Fulfilling The Spiritual Plan

laitman_238_02Question: Why does king Sihon who symbolizes egoism declare war on Israel? Doesn’t he feel that he is going to die?

Answer: What else can he do? We know that when the egoistic desires are revealed in us they clash and fight within us and we cannot do anything about it.

The ego leads us: it leads part of us to death and part of us to victory. The plan of creation is fulfilled inside us, and the ego carries it out, operating and implementing it. It is processed by the ego.

It is just like when you see that Abraham has to kill Isaac. It is hard to understand that from a corporeal perspective, but in spirituality I have to kill that desire because that’s the way it has to be and there is nothing I can do about it. We perceive such actions as tragic in our world, while in the spiritual life everything is different because it is on a totally different level of decision making.

Here the plan embedded in you is fulfilled so there is no room for feelings. You witness this cosmic plot being acted out inside you.

Question: Does a person feel happy when he approaches spiritual death?

Answer: Yes, he is happy that he is part of the spiritual action that is fulfilled by him. You don’t think about what will happen to you the next moment. There is no such thing in the spiritual world, just as there is no feeling of death. There is only the feeling of fulfilling the plan, and that is the most sublime thing.

It is the joy of the idea, the joy of existing, the joy of the revelation of the upper force, the joy that there is nothing left of my egoistic self.

Transforming Into Part Of The Land Of Israel

laitman_747_01The Torah, “Numbers,” 21: 21 – 21:24: And Israel sent messengers unto Sihon king of the Amorites, saying: “Let me pass through thy land; we will not turn aside into field, or into vineyard; we will not drink of the water of the wells; we will go by the king’s highway, until we have passed thy border.”

And Sihon would not suffer Israel to pass through his border; but Sihon gathered all his people together, and went out against Israel into the wilderness, and came to Jahaz; and he fought against Israel.

And Israel smote him with the edge of the sword, and possessed his land from the Arnon unto the Jabbok, even unto the children of Ammon; for the border of the children of Ammon was strong.

Many images in the Torah, among them King Sihon, embody the egoistic forces in a person, which by correcting them are transformed into characteristics of bestowal and love.

The seven nations in the land of Israel, which didn’t allow anyone to enter there, belong to these egoistic forces. In other words, our egoistic characteristics are placed before us, and it is necessary to conquer them, to kill them, meaning to correct them, to change their foundation, to put them under an intention for the sake of bestowal.

These are the strongest egoistic desires, including the children of Ammon, who exist in every person and in human desires in general.

Through their correction, the intention for the Creator appears, and then they transform into being a part of the land of Israel. Eretz (Land) is derived from the word “Ratzon” (Desire), and Israel symbolizes the direction “Straight to the Creator” (Yashar-Kel), meaning these are the desires with which the person transforms to become like the Creator.

Death Or Ascent?

Laitman_509The Torah, “Numbers,” 21:6: And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.

On the one hand, a person who corrects himself when he discovers the egoism inside him is considered to be dead, but on the other hand, it is an ascent, a release from the ego.

The fact that the people died from the serpent’s venom, means they were released from egoism, and so they continued to advance. We should see that everything the Torah tells us about is one body (one desire), in one person and not in many different people, since it is about one ego that has to reach the level of resembling the Creator.

“Much people of Israel died” means that the egoism on the current spiritual level is gone. On the next level it will ascend once more and the same thing will repeat itself on a new level. In fact, there is no other way because the general system is round and totally closed.

Ascent To The Spiritual Dimension

Laitman_712_03Egoistic death is to get rid of selfishness by himself, because only it is subject to death. All the rest cannot die! Therefore death in spirituality is nothing but awakening, illumination, and understanding.

According to the wisdom of Kabbalah, if a person carries out his mission and corrects himself, he blesses the Creator by reciting Kaddish – a prayer about the death of the body.

This prayer is very deep and emotional. It is not just the manifestation of feelings of gratitude to the Creator for what a person suffers in this life through the body. Indeed, precisely because of life in the body, a person attains the next level of his development, which instead of the current shell, he is reborn in another body, And he thanks the Creator for being able to come closer to Him, changing his corporeal shell.

Comment: It is interesting that the Romans took the dying emperor standing death, as if defying the gods.

Answer: The Romans had no deep ethical concepts. But like the Greeks, they were very materialistic. The resistance of the Jews to the Romans and the Greeks defined the world of today.

The Romans conquered all of Europe and gave it its materialistic development, whereas the Greeks filled this development with their philosophy and scientific insight into the world. All of this happened so that the world would ultimately rise to the level of the Creator, above both materialism and the development of modern science.

So today we see that wealth and luxury are no longer at the heart of determining happiness. And philosophy is already becoming history, philosophers and philosophy have disappeared. This means we are approaching a new stage, elevation into the spiritual dimension.

A Brass Serpent: A Symbol Of Idolatry

Laitman_115_06The Torah, “Numbers,” 21:7 – 21:9: And the people came to Moses, and said:”We have sinned, because we have spoken against the LORD, and against thee; pray unto the LORD, that He take away the serpents from us.” And Moses prayed for the people.

And the LORD said unto Moses: “Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole; and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he seeth it, shall live.”

And Moses made a serpent of brass, and set it upon the pole; and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he looked unto the serpent of brass, he lived.

A brass serpent is a symbol of what is depicted to a person by his egoistic idol. The Torah seems to tell us to realize, “look, it is simply made of brass, why do you bow to it?” Therefore, if you “see the serpent” now, which means if you feel it inside you on that level, it heals you.

From his height, from the height of Bina, Moses makes a serpent on the level of the still nature as it actually is and not the way it is depicted to a person. We think that this serpent provides the infinite pleasure one can feel on earth, in our world and in the spiritual world, everywhere. This means that instead of the Creator, we see a serpent.

Moses’ serpent seems to say that the ego is merely an idol. And so whoever sees it as still nature that is on a pole immediately heals since he realizes that there is no reason to pray to an idol.

Question: What does it mean to “set it upon a pole?”

Answer: It means that even in the form of still nature the serpent is held only thanks to the pole that symbolizes faith. The serpent is basically a person’s force of motion. We advance with it because if the ego disappeared, we would remain on level zero.

Comment: But until now Moses advanced with a rod without a serpent…

Answer: It is because a rod on the level of Moses is Bina. If the serpent sits on Bina, we see that it is a piece of brass from which a person can make an idol, which means nothing! In other words, if we look at our ego through the point in the heart, we begin to realize that it isn’t worth spending our whole life on it.

You can write whole novels about the serpent because it is our sophisticated ego, a cunning beast that is close to man. It always appears as an evil, cunning figure and a cause of alert in all the folk tales. Man has an instinctive fear of serpents and isn’t afraid of anything in the same way that stems from the spiritual roots of the ego.

We can use the ego in two ways: on the one hand, the serpent’s venom is a medicine, that a person’s health depends on, and on the other hand, it is death. Not every venom is a medicine.

Zigzags Along The Spiritual Path

Laitman_631_1The Torah, “Numbers,” 21:4 – 21:6: They journeyed from Mount Hor by way of the Red Sea to circle the land of Edom, and the people became disheartened because of the way. The people spoke against God and against Moses, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in this desert, for there is no bread and no water, and we are disgusted with this rotten bread.” The Lord sent against the people the venomous snakes, and they bit the people and many people of Israel died.

Once again we see the next correction of the initial egoistic desires. Some of them are already corrected, let’s say, on the levels of the root phase and levels one and two, while the deeper egoistic levels are corrected now.

Question: Why do we need these turning points? It seems that everything is fine and suddenly the people come complaining again and again!

Answer: The correction is fulfilled according to the same rules as the slalom: you follow a course to an end point, but constantly zigzagging, you can’t go directly. When an athlete skis down the mountain he has to zigzag, otherwise he would fly down the mountain. It is the same when he climbs the mountain. This is the reason that everything we have seen now repeats over and over again but on a different level. Moreover, if before it seemed that we were performing good deeds and thus advancing, now we discover that we had performed bad deeds and must correct them.

For example, a person who studied Kabbalah wrote books about it. No matter how you look at it, he is not corrected yet and it is his ego speaking in him. I remember the pains I felt when I wrote and rewrote my first books over and over again. You cannot imagine how it raises a person, ignites him and makes him feel satisfied expecting this bestowal and this receiving. On the one hand, he performs some work, but when he raises himself he needs to correct everything afterward. This means that you ascend upward; that is, you ascend but you will have to correct these zigzags!

This is life. You cannot tell a person that it would be better if he did nothing. This prolongs the path. Looking at it from the outside, you see that it’s fate; there’s no getting around it: a person performs his intended path, which has a starting and ending point. He can not avoid such zigzags.

In this area our ego grows, and then we have to correct it by making great efforts. This is great additional work we spend years on. But at the same time we are expanding its correction, including all that we do in our egoism, which expands it.

It is actually by such zigzags that the correction is carried out.

The Rebellion Of The Internal Canaanites

Laitman_049_01The Torah, “Numbers,” 21:1 – 21:3: The Canaanite king of Arad, who lived in the south, heard that Israel had come by the route of the spies, and he waged war against Israel and took from them a captive.

Israel made a vow to the Lord, and said, “If You deliver this people into my hand, I shall consecrate their cities.”

The Lord heard Israel’s voice and delivered the Canaanite. He destroyed them and [consecrated] their cities, and he called the place Hormah.

We all exist in one desire, in one body, and although from the ego’s perspective it seems that we hate one another, we actually hate our own parts, our children and our relatives, the people who are closest to us who seem the most hateful and distant. This all will be revealed in the future, and humanity will be shocked by its actions.

In the Torah, the concept “to fight” also refers to the rebellion of the egoistic desires. However, when a person cannot fight them, he naturally asks for the Creator’s help because He is the only force that governs and controls everything. This is the reason that Israel turns to Him.

Every victory is about a person overcoming his egoistic desires—which, in this case, are called Canaanites—and transforming them to altruistic ones.

In other words, when our internal Canaanites rebel inside us, we need the Creator’s help, and the Creator helps us to overcome them. We destroy all of the egoistic intentions we have and advance.

The conquering of the land of Israel is a change of the seven major egoistic intentions for ourselves into intentions for the Creator, to bestowal and love.

The children of Israel take an oath to destroy the Canaanite city, which means the egoistic desires in them, because a man is a small world that includes everything in him, and this is why he needs the Creator’s help.

But how can the people of Israel who yearn for love ask the eternal Creator who loves everyone to destroy someone? Unfortunately, people don’t understand what the Torah says, and they think that it is an evil nation! However, the Torah presents opposite evidence, because in the spiritual world, everything is with the intention of in order to bestow, while in our world, it is all for filling myself.

Killing yourself means killing the egoist in you. Killing someone else means killing the egoist in me called by a different name, not my own. This means that this is our next state.

There are different methods of correction: partial, temporary, permanent, and ultimate corrections. The Torah tells us how the complete correction is achieved in different states. It is just like in our world. We advance, correct something, and leave something. Then something comes back to us once again, rising from the depths, and we must correct it once again.

Who Will Lead The Nation To The Land Of Israel?

laitman_749_02The Torah, “Numbers,” 20:12: The Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “Since you did not have faith in Me to sanctify Me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly to the Land which I have given them.”

Moshe cannot lead and bring the nation to the land of Israel because he is more connected to the people than to the Creator, meaning that the connection between Malchut and Bina was premature. It only appears at the next level, at the level of Joshua, who lead and brought the people to this land after he completed the preparation, which included all kinds of small corrections, including Moshe and Aaron.

The Level of Aaron Has Completed Its Mission

laitman_627_2Question: What does it mean that a person has completed his mission and reached the level of Aaron?

Answer: We all depend on one another in the spiritual world and are connected into one system, but each of us also carries his own unique element that no one else has. It is called after him, and it is his personal investment in the general system.

He must manage the whole system from the root of his soul, invest in it, and assist it. His investment in the system, which is what he needs to put into it together with all the other souls, is called his soul. This is the reason that everyone is very important. On the one hand, everyone has one single soul, and on the other hand, everyone has his own personal soul.

There is, for example, a Reshimo (Reminiscence) in me called the point in the heart that I must fulfill in order to participate properly in the system of man with all of the other souls. It is actually my participation in it that is called my self. Each of us must fulfill that.

All of the billions of parts of the general soul are inside of me, but the main ones are Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Aaron, Joseph, and David. They are the ten main Sefirot of the soul, and all of its other parts are dressed on them, like clusters.

By completing his system, Aaron detaches himself, retreats and joins his forefathers. Now his children continue his spiritual work.

The Letters Of The Torah

Laitman_151Question: My question is about the letters of the Torah. If the Torah was written as one word starting from the letter “״ב (Bet) to the letter “ל” (Lamed), why is it possible to divide it into words?

Is it possible to read the Torah backward from”ל” to”״ב? Would it still be possible to divide it into words then? Will it still be Hebrew?

Answer: We can divide the Torah many times and in different manners. We cannot even imagine the infinite options there are to do so.

Because the Upper Light is infinite in all its forms and revelations, we cannot describe it with our tools. Only the direct feeling of the upper world enables a person to attain it internally.
