“Stockton said the DOD [Department of Defense] is also honing its skills for the possibility of facing complex catastrophes, such as what was practiced in the recent National Level Exercise 11…

“The exercise scenario featured a 7.7 earthquake along the New Madrid fault, which falls along the Mississippi River. The 7.7 earthquake typifies what Stockton terms as the challenges of complex catastrophes.

“’First, the magnitude,’ he said, because ‘it’s so much bigger than anything we’ve faced — way beyond Hurricane Katrina — over 100,000 casualties in the scenario.’”

My Comment: Although these catastrophes manifest as natural disasters, their real cause is man, and therefore, it is in our power to prevent them. In any case, no country has any other choice but to implement a national program of adapting its citizens to the new conditions in the world—to life in a single integrated society.

Namely the resistance of our egoistic nature to the implementation of the method of correction is called the “evil inclination” (Yetzer Ha Ra). How much do we need to suffer like stubborn children in order to start acting sensibly?!

Question: The new trends make it seem like the nations of the world will have to disintegrate from the inside in order to be built anew….

Answer: The whole world has to be destroyed, but the destruction can either happen on the physical level or on the level of understanding and realization. Either we will have to completely destroy ourselves in the physical sense in order to understand that we must also destroy our egoistic spirit, or we can circumvent the physical component of collapse and immediately start working on its spiritual realization in order to then correct the situation.

One way or another, you have to reach the breaking, inner destruction. And it’s possible that to reach it, you will also need the external collapse.

For example, today in Israel we are trying to add our message to the wave of the social protest about the need for unity and for constructing an integral society. The question is: How effective are our efforts? Maybe some amount of suffering will also be required here for people to understand that this is the only thing missing in reality, and the only way to achieve fair distribution of resources.

The people really want social justice, but how can it be achieved? It can’t be done by imposing whatever you like, but others don’t like. Social justice must envelop everyone, all of society. But is it really possible to actualize this without first attaining mutual guarantee?

It would be good if people realized this. Otherwise troubles will be necessary. There are no other alternatives: either the good path, or the path of suffering. If we are unsuccessful on the good path, then the second path will have to join. That is what will happen in all areas of our lives.

However, the more we can influence the environment, the more chances there are that we won’t have to go through real wars, which the world can slide down to in case of a bad turn of events, as Baal HaSulam writes.

Question: You are saying that the masses do not have to study the science of Kabbalah as we study it. But can a person change internally if he does not use the primary sources? All the changes originate from them.

Answer: You came to Kabbalah because you have the desire to advance. Thus, the point in a person’s heart pulls him forward. He does not feel right; he wants to see tomorrow, to achieve something, to open up heaven for himself, and that’s why he comes to study.

It doesn’t matter how big his bank account is and whether he is successful at work or in his personal life. He has another problem: He must find the meaning of his life, discover its purpose.

This is not how things stand with those who are pushed forward by corporeal circumstances, such as a lack of money, inequality, envy of others, and so on. These negative conditions push a person from behind by causing him to suffer.

When people are driven by suffering rather than an inner calling or a desire for development, you cannot promise them that learning will solve all their problems because a person does not associate his pain with a good goal ahead, with the revelation of the Good Who Does Good. And he will not feel this connection before he exits evil.

To do this, he must become attracted to the good ahead. The only good for him is called “unity,” “mutual guarantee.”

And thus, you are telling him, “If we unite and agree with this integral, global Nature, then it will be good for us.” But instead of referring to the science of Kabbalah, you send him to scientists, politicians, economists, and other experts. You present him with the facts that are already accepted and articulated by people who are significant in his eyes. He is not about to sit down and study together with you; he has different plans for his life. He believes that you should give him an appropriate answer and the means available for its realization.

It is written, “Raise a lad in his own way.” We have to address people in a manner that they can hear and understand. We talk from the position of nature itself and prove that the crisis is the consequence of the global, integral world. We collect the opinions of professionals and the results of scientific research and combine them into a picture of the crisis and its solution.

The problem is that humanity is not aware of the modern world and therefore cannot get used to it. We can only enter the correct path once we begin to unite. Tens of thousands of bright heads, the best minds of humanity already talk about this. And we should show their words to the world because maybe the world will believe them. They state that change for the better is impossible without the correction of man. And this message will be heard by at least part of the audience.

The problem is that the people who are protesting do not yet understand that the reason for all of the dissatisfaction is the loss of hope for the future. This bothers people even more than the fact that there is nothing to live on. A person does not feel that there is something good waiting for him tomorrow. And it is necessary to give people an explanation that there will be no tomorrow if we will continue the way we are! After all, this way we are only speeding up the destruction of the world.

We have to balance out the evil of our egoism with the mind and understand where all of these problems are coming from and why. The people who are protesting are quite capable of this. They are smart and developed. They just need to hear an explanation of the fact that this protest is not the solution.

It’s not because I study Kabbalah and I want to impose its principles onto everyone. See this for yourself and realize that there is no way out! I say this as a scientist.

What benefit would it give to overturn everything and to change one thing for something similar? There used to be one head of government and now there will be another one. So what will change, really? Things will only get worse.

Look at the huge economic downturn that occurred as a result of the recent unrest that took place in Egypt, Libya, and other places. This is being done deliberately by foreign outside forces, which are destroying one country after another in order to keep themselves in some kind of balance. They do not understand that this boomerang will eventually return back to them.

There is no place anything could be achieved by means of destruction and rioting. If you want to build something, then how can the destruction of shops and other forms of disorder help? This will not give you anything, especially since the people protesting are not offering any solution.

In order to find the solution, you need to gather together people who work in politics, economics, and education, sit them together at one table, and have them build the program of changes. Or bring your own program to the table, but one that’s specific and laid out in detail!

However, today when we evaluate various programs that are proposed, we see that they cannot be realized in any part of the world. There is simply no such possibility! And the reason is because the world today has started to function in an integral form, as an integrated system, while we are still trying to operate by the old programs, which were in place before the world had locked itself into an integral system.

That is why no country today is capable of controlling its domestic affairs, and all of them together cannot deal with anything as well. No one can do anything, and that includes all of the countries and governments. And there is no solution to the situation besides drawing closer to nature. We have to start behaving like it does, which means becoming integral and connected with everyone and with the environment into one system.

Until we do this, we will not have any feeling or thought that will enable us to build tomorrow. Now, the only question is: How much longer will we have to suffer in order to understand this? How many more blows will we have to endure in order to want to hear it!?

Over the course of the war the federal government borrowed an amount equal to roughly twice the value of G.D.P. in 1940, the equivalent of roughly $30 trillion today.…this slump can be cured. All it will take is a little bit of intellectual clarity, and a lot of political will.’

Comment: Kabbalah also states that the world will reach war out of despair. But if we show people the possibility of another way out, which nature has to offer us—namely, the unity between ourselves and nature, then humanity will be able to achieve its final, perfect form and will do without war.

Kabbalah points out that the second path is realistic and we can realize it. Everything depends only on the explanation of how we should act to accomplish this ascent onto the next stage of our evolution where we reach similarity to the integral, global nature.

Question: Why are we taking about hatred if most people don’t feel hatred for each other, but just indifference?

Answer: When I think that the grass is greener on the neighbor’s lawn or I envy his new car, this is called hatred. That’s because I assess my well-being in relation to my environment, and if the comparison is not in my favor, this causes me to feel hatred for others.

With their successes, they force me to feel bad and to suffer. And naturally, I hate them for that. You may not be aware of it, but it’s so.

It’s impossible for me to be indifferent to others because we are connected within one system and I undoubtedly assess my state by what others have. That is how we are by nature, wishing to see everyone else as lower than us and to have everyone serve us. If you don’t understand this, then you simply lack awareness.

When do I reveal that I want everyone to be my servants? When I try to serve them! This lets me see just how much I want the opposite!

It’s not simple revealing your hatred. One reaches Mount Sinai (the mountain of hatred) and the reception of the Torah only after a very lengthy preparation, the Egyptian slavery and the journey around the desert. As long as you don’t reveal your hatred, you do not need the Torah.

There are many people in the world who deem themselves righteous and think that they don’t wish bad for others, that they love others. But they simply don’t feel their hatred. If they really tried loving others, they would reveal just how much they hate them. One has to go through the Egyptian exile in order to reveal hatred.

This is why the “day of love” (Tu B’Av, the 15th of Av) happens after the day of destruction, the 9th of Av. After we reveal the evil, the enormous, horrible crisis, the hatred between us, this is followed by 5 days (5 levels) when we correct ourselves and reach love. It happens only in this form!

Therefore, in our regular lives, if a husband and wife don’t quarrel, then they don’t reveal their love. Sometimes people pick a fight on purpose, doing it instinctively in order to feel sweetness and the taste of their relationship by making up. Indifference is the worst possible thing.

In the News: Crowds came out in Qianxi, Guizhou, one of China’s poorest provinces. Reports say hundreds of people rioted, setting fire to cars belonging to the local government, blocking off streets and injuring several police officers. Police arrested 10 people.

Chinese towns regularly experience short-lived outbreaks of unrest. The anger is often directed at local officials. Analysts say such incidents are on the rise in China, and provide one of the most pressing challenges to the rule of the Communist Party.

My Comment: It’s frightening to think about the unrest that is gradually swelling in China. I hope that before it breaks out, humanity will understand that the only possible path of development is the path of gradual unification toward mutual guarantee (Arvut Hadadit). This can prevent a lot of suffering in the world during this transitional period from the egoistic framework to the altruistic one.

If we look at different history textbooks, we will see how different their descriptions are. It would seem that humanity went through the same history, including all of its problems, wars, troubles, and successes, yet every nation describes it from its point of view. As a result, textbooks that are supposed to reflect the truth end up contradicting one another.

Sometimes I speak with leaders of different movements in other countries. Each of them is absolutely certain that his movement has to lead the whole world. This includes religious and secular movements, organizations related to ecology, wildlife protection, and many others. While I am among them, how do I differ from them?

Without trying to answer that question, we bring the Kabbalistic message to people in a different form. We do not try to prove who is right and who is wrong, and we don’t dissect different opinions. We don’t try to examine things from the standpoint of history or a religious direction because in each of these areas every person can present his own rationale to justify his opinion.

We invite people only to disengage from everything there is – from the past and the present, and to look into the future from the present moment. In this point we see that nature obligates us to set up the right interconnection, to enter balance, mutuality, and harmony, similar to a single body, an integral, global, pan-human system that senses itself and functions truly as one whole.

Nature obligates and pushes us to this. There is a lot of research confirming this, and we can rely on it. Besides, we don’t have anything else. All we can rely on is science, as it is written, “A person is guided only by what he sees.” Today facts are all we need, and we have to advance according to them.

The facts indicate that whether we want to or not, we are becoming a global, integral society that is internally welded by interconnection and total mutual guarantee. Essentially, this is the tendency of all of nature, and from one day to the next we see how it is becoming expressed more and more clearly.

A question arises: What is our role in this process? Can we now invent anything artificial, following whatever idea some politician, sociologist, political scientist, or other party has suddenly thought up? The world has already tried out all sorts of ideas and humanity has suffered duly due to them.

Perhaps we should simply research nature and be guided by the results of our research, not considering anything else but this? If we advance based on our research, which is conducted in nature, then there is no doubt that out of all the opportunities that little people have on this tiny earth, forsaken at the edge of the galaxy, which is forsaken on the outskirts of the universe, at least we have this one, real chance.

So let’s not sink into philosophy and demonstrate irreconcilability. From experience we already know that when you stand your ground and I stand mine, this only leads to wars and self-annihilation.

Today we desperately need a common denominator, which can only come from the inviolable laws of nature. Based on these laws, we can build the integrated society that is aimed at creativity rather than destruction.

Question: What do you think about the current events and the current tendency, and in particular, how do you feel about the events that have unraveled over the last couple of days in England and Chile?

Unfortunately, the whole world will soon be enveloped in a fire of chaos because there is no remedy for what’s happening, and no one will find it either. Why don’t you wait it out until people see that nothing helps, and will then agree to listen to you?

Many years ago, during his post as Great Britain’s PM, the historian Gordon Brown along with many other influential individuals said that the world is one. They understood that only the unification of all people will give this world the solution to all of its questions and crises. Why, then, didn’t they resolve these questions through unification, by introducing a new kind of upbringing and promulgating the mutual guarantee, as you are doing?

Answer: Throughout all of history, humanity was nudged forward by the egoism that developed individually within every one of us. We aspired to realize and fill it. Our entire existence amounted to this. But in our time nature is not guiding us to develop our egoism further because it has developed to the maximum and has been showing us its emptiness for 50 years now.

Our egoism has become interlinked and that is why we are revealing that we are interconnected. This is what we call “the global world.” In reality, it’s not the world, but us who have become global. And therefore, as scientists ascertain, we should not develop egoistically, but globally, meaning we should correct the connections between us.

That is where all of the world’s scientists came to a halt because no one in the world knows how to do that. And the more disorder surfaces in the world, the more it will signify that the world needs correction more urgently.

Once the world became integral and interconnected, it started being governed by two forces: not just the force of egoism, which pushes us from behind systematically, by nature’s program, the way it did throughout all of its history; but also by the force of attraction toward the goal – to our unified state. However, we have to compel this force to influence us similar to how a child would remain an animal if he did not aspire to become an adult.

The method of Kabbalah is intended to evoke upon us the influence of the force that aspires “forward,” toward unity. Otherwise we will be pressured only by the negative force “from behind,” which will continuously evoke greater global suffering, down to wars. That is why Kabbalah is being revealed precisely at this time. All Kabbalists wrote about this. For example, see Baal HaSulam’s articles “The Revelation of Godliness,” “Mutual Guarantee,” and “Peace in the World.”

Besides, we have to understand that the more suffering is expressed in the world under the influence of the negative force that pushes us forward, the more it indicates that the world needs a force pulling it forward so our movement forward, toward unification will not occur as a result of suffering that chases us on, but by the good path, the good force that sweeps us forward.

Because the nation of Israel was created based on the method of uniting people, according to the principle, “Love your neighbor as yourself,” therefore, even after falling from this moral level it retained an “altruistic gene” that can evoke a force that accelerates progress and sweeps people forward, toward unity. But if Israel does not evoke this force and the world moves toward its goal pressured by suffering, then the nations of the world are right to assert that the nation of Israel is the source of all of the suffering in the world.

Although this nation did not choose to be the conductor of the method of correction, it is unable to free itself from this mission. The suffering of the nations of the world will evoke such great pressure from their end and such fury at the nation of Israel that this will obligate Israel to become the leader in the world’s correction.

Question: Where do the rioters and pillagers in England and earlier – in France, get such a huge force of aggression?

Answer: For the first time in history, the young generation, along with the previous generation – their parents, both realize that the young generation will have a worse life than the previous. And moreover, it’s uncertain whether it will live at all and for how long.

People have always believed that “our children will be better off than we are.” Particularly from the middle of the 20th century on, the following generation lived much better than the previous. But this tendency ended with the completion of egoism’s growth and its closure into an integral system, which we do not correspond to. Therefore, we do not know how to live from here on.

An enormous feeling of uncertainty has emerged, which evokes feelings of fear and then aggression, and the willingness to make any actions just to bring what is happening to light. The solution to the problem lies in upbringing, meaning an explanation of the fact that if we become similar to nature, we become omnipotent like it.

Equivalence to nature means bringing our involuntary, egoistic unification to a voluntary, altruistic, mutual one, until we reach universal love. Inside that love, we will reveal our eternity and perfection, which are present in nature’s very foundation.
